What custom ROM would you guys recommend? That it has to be stable and fast goes without saying
Thnx in advance
I've tried Racht's ones.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914513
Currently I'm under Floyo (2.2.1) because there is app2sd working in this ROM but I think 2.3.2 CM HackDroid ROM is also a good ROM (I was using this before).
For the moment, I recommend you Floyo.
Both of them make your phone twice faster.
There still are some small bugs (as 3.5 jack or some sensors don't work) but these ROM still are in dev.
So be patient and in the future they will be better and better thanks to Racht's work =)
But be careful when you flash your device.
Be aware of the dangers and think to make a backup of your initial ROM before.
thnx, i'll give it a try. I'm aware of all the problems with custom roms. I was just wondering what the most stable rom was atm

Yes you loose all your apps and jit will be still enabled. Download floyo v0.10. First create in xrecovery backup of your current rom. Then extract floyo to sdcard /xrecovery/backup and reboot to xrecovery. in xrecovery do full wipe and then choose Backup and restore -> Restore -> floyo/ -> Yes and reboot phone

Racht's 2.2 I think is the best you can get for the X8. I was really afraid to install it, because I thought it would be buggy, but I was very surprised when I tried it. It's fast, stable and much better than 2.1.

Yes it is very good now we are waiting for a good 2. 3 Rom
Hey Guys!
After all thr struggle I went through....I fiinally got my sgs running smooth. Well this goes for all 2.2, 2.2.1 and 2.3.3 stock Roms.
1. All i did was use voodoo lagfix.
2. Install superuser from market.
3. Install root uninstaller
4. Uninstall all samsung apps eg. buddy, feed updates, dual clock, diary etc...task manager. All of them except samsung apps (u may choose to if u dont use it).
5. Now reset ur handset and enjoy ur super fast sgs.
I dont think sgs need any task manager or killer. If needed u may kill tasks from running apps in the settings. I dont think there are any issues with touchwiz or sgs as such.....but these apps are really crap. download apps from market. They all work awesome.
My sgs is currently on the 2.3.3 JVK Rom.
You could of saved a lot of effort and just cooked a Rom in the kitchen.
I've come from darkys rom to a custom cooked one from the kitchen and my phone is faster and more stable than ever.

De-odexing if anything will slow the phone down, but zipaligning can lower some memory consumption, so technically your phone may give better performance because of zipaligning (due to more mem being free).
/probably not noticeable though...
I've flashed honeycomb and, stock, this rom is faster than darky's
How I did it:
I'm using GT-I9000M so I need the 850, so prior to this, I've flashed theses modems, in order: JL2, JS8, JPD
Hard reset when still in Darkys
Disabled lagfix and all the optimisations
flashed JVK
Hard Reset again
And everything is darn smooth and stable, battery holds 3 days easy. Honestly, best rom as of now!

rach"s cm 54 still has the sd card safe to remove bug....still waitin to get fixed b4 using..
First, this is a no-sense thread. Why don't you use the "official" thread of that ROM?
(Edit: Noticed now you only have 1 post, so you can't post at Dev forum, sorry)
Second, SD safe to remove bug is only fixable when bootloader is bypassed and we have custom kernel.
(Edit: Just noticed that in this thread they claim that their ROM has SD Safe to Remove bug fixed, you can test it... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964223)

hi mate,
then i would recommend this rom
[ROM] MiniCM6-1.0.0 *Released*, Froyo Cyanogen 6.1.3 port for the X8
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964223
nearly full stable and fast too!
i use for 1 day now and doesn't have any sd card remove.
...im using same mate, just started this morning...im still waiting for any working cm7 for x8...
racht fixed it apparently from the fix made by nobodyatall
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914513
**** cm7. CM6 is best available atm.
On rachts roms camera is disabled, and it's not so stable and smooth as mincm.
Be patient till bootloader is cracked

I realt like ratch work but...
If you want version 2.2 cm6 get mini cm of nobadyatall (everything works but some phones , we don't know why, brick due to over clock)
Else if you want 2.3 cm7 get ratch's (battery drain is not an excuse... don't put live wallpapers and close background programms running, don't work camera and radio)

About that battery drain problem... Whenever I try a new Racht rom I always have a horrible drain after 1st boot... thing is that after some "SU app" reboots I noticed that the battery drained smoother by far. I tried rebooting the phone myself after 1st boot of cm7-41.2 build and the battery drained smoother and slower again. I'm not saying that's a solution...I just noticed that on my X8... Besides, Racht said he made some adjustments to the task killer and a "user invoked"-reboot always made the phone run smoother when looking laggy. No SD bug reboots since 7.41 even with OC...

It is fixed. I am using this ROM six days and I don't have "SD Card is safe to remove" reboot when I exit Root Explorer or other app which needs root
tried it...bug still there..can u tell me how to install it properly, maybe i did something wrong..install it from xrecovery back up..
Download latest version of ROM. I think that you have older version. I installed it normally: full wipe then restore
i think its the latest version..its from the april 25 update..the bug is there even at start of set up..i made full wipe but it still there..need some help..
Try to write in racht's thread how did you get these reboots
i already did, he told me to format the sd card from phone...its workin now..thanks to racht and to all of you guys...
i'm using the MiniCM RC1 becase CM7 54 camera dont work...
If i want change MiniCM RC1 to MiniCM6-1.0.0 *Released*, Froyo Cyanogen 6.1.3...i have to use the service update and back to 2.1 of SE first?
thx

Partitions and some bug
I am on pox 1.0 non oc. Has tested 1.o beta OC., had too much battery drain so preffering non oc. Now want to upgrade to 1.1 non oc. Can you post some clarity about partitions. I have ext4 and swap partition on my SD card. Changelog for 1.1 says ext2 support for cache, so do I need ext2 partition, if yes what size. Moreover please confirm Email clint on 1.1 b'coz didnt find any in 1.0. Also please check that the times tends to reset (to GMT) in 1.0 on restart if automatic updating from serbvice provider is unchecked.

Happened to me on Cognition v1.5 ,
Solved by removing un-wanted apps,
The problem might exist in some app, mostly in the one asking SU permission.
Try removing some suspicious apps, see if the problem exist.
There are lots of posts about reboots (many by me!) but I don't recall any reboots specifically relating to text entry.
In my own case, my phone misbehaved in a truly random way, with about the only consistant part being that it rebooted normally when it was doing nothing.
You don't say if you just have your phone for 2 days or if this is a new development?
All I can say is that I sent my phone for replacement (a painful process!) and the one I have now is fine. The SGS2 is a great phone when it behaves !!!
i have my phone since 2 months..this issue has been 2 days..tried ninpho kernel ragemod kernel..and 2 or 3 roms but the phone only reboots when entering text in stock messaging app..i surf net for hour..or cal or even use go sms pro then it doesnt happen..and I use the stock msging app which comes with rom..without modding it..dont use bln..I just cant seem to figure out y this is happening on multiple roms!!!
does it happen when using the messaging app on a stock rom
found the problrm today..
The problem is with jkay mod 9.1..I dnt knw wat it causes the reboots bt as soon as I uninstalled the mod and application..the problem ws solved..I m currently on batista rom and sppedmod kernel..and using jkay mod 8.2..no problems nw..
Gonna report it to jkay nw..

it wasnt a "boot loop" boot loop is when the phone keeps rebooting from boot screen..it was phone random reboot..phone rebooting itself randomly(in my case in text entry)

Samsung galaxy s2 random reboots
hi
i have a new samsung galaxy s2 which was originally from bell canada but was unlocked(by imei unlock i think) the firmware is stock
model number : GT-I9100M
Baseband version: I9100MUGKG2
Kernel: [email protected]#2
my issue with this phone is that when im listening to music through the stock headphones via the stock music player it crashes, makes a sound while doung it. gives the media scanning on the bar on the top and the phone signal is not there.
i read from the other posts here that it may be from the sd card so i removed it but its still happening.
any suggestions?
thanks
I know this is an old post but I fixed my reboots by removing all apps from SD card, not had a reboot in months, cant use card for programs, stock ROM
I solved random reboots downgrading from 2.3.6 to 2.35.
Hope it helps.
Move everything from /system/etc/init.d/ to another directory on external_sd.
Flash a rock stable kernel like speedmod k21 without undervolting.
If it doesn't help flash a rock stable rom like Criskelo v38.
