[Q] Please help - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I just got this phone yesterday from a friend. I was given this website and said that I need to download something to turn my phone from a Windows phone to an Android phone but I have no idea what I am doing. Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Amanda

So you're starting form scratch? Do you want to run Android off SD card or in the NAND memory? Wiping WinMo (easy to revert back to).
First all you'll need:
HSPL 2.08 (Bootloader)
MAGLDR 1.13
Then ClockworkMod (Not needed, but recommend as it's easier... and you can make back-ups!)
Read this and it'll tell you everything you need to know. Just one thing, make sure you flash the radio mentioned in that thread.
Just one thing... IF YOU HAVE A T-MOBILE US HD2 DO NOT FLASH A .51 RADIO. Your phone won't work anymore if you do.
If that guides to hard to understand, you can always look on YouTube. There are plenty of guides.

New ROM for T-Mobile (UK) help needed

Hello.
This is my first post, so please be kind to me!
I've spent the past few weeks trying to get my head around what to do in order to flash my HD2 which is on the t_mobile network
The original rom 1.43 i think is driving me crazy and I now dont care if I change the rom and it invalidates the warenty!
In order to HSPL I need to SPL first, but will my device allow this?
I've read through so many threads that I am completely confused and dont know which way to turn, never mind which thread to re-read.
Can someone point me to the sspl, HSPL to upgrade to 1.66
Thanks
Glyn
oh its the 512 version
you are over confusing yourself.
download hspl 2
instal it - choose whichever hspl you like (may as well go for 2.08.hspl)
flash whatever rom you like from usb. (don't forget to flash a compatible radio either before or straight after.)
Thanks for your reply......
so downloan the HSPL from here?
'forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477'
and as I run the program I'll get the option of which version to install?
What should I look for to make sure that the radio is compatible with the rom?
Thanks again and sorry for my ignorance
Glyn
best thing you can do is to read a lot. No need to do enerything in one mad dash.
get HSPL2 from HERE - end of the first post (but read the post, dont just skip to download, )
run it as administrator (right click, run as administrator)
for best results use a usb port on the back of your PC (i.e one directly on teh motherboard, not an external usb slot) it will ask what version you want to install. just go for 2.08.hspl (not 2.08.0000) and let it do its thing. the authors say you should match the version to the rom (so 1.43.hspl for roms that are 1.43 or 1.48, 1.66.HSPL for 1.6 based roms, etc, but it isn't critical, most will run on any HSPL, so dont go changing every time you flash a new rom, no need. If it doesnt work then change it.)
As for radio tips, a radio with .51. in the number, (eg 2.09.51.03) will NOT work with any rom that has the 576meg ram, enabled.
If you flash a rom and all you get when you restart is a grey screen, chances are the radio doesnt match. Boot to bootloader and flash the radio.
But most of all, read stuff.
What about shipped rom's that are .exe files? Do they include radios with it? Also, is there a post you can point me to that has a list of compatible radios with different rom's?
that's where reading comes in. the whole process has so many variants that there is no simple "a b c" that covers everything.
yes the exe includes radio (and also spl if you use sd card to flash -stay away from sd card, use usb and if anything goes wrong you just boot to bootloader and re flash)
the chefs give you all the infoyou need in the first couple of posts. the sticky threads in the rom development section will tell you how to do everything, and any problem you encounter has beenwritten about already. so read, search and read.
I suggest you flash Stock WWE 1.66 ROM first so you can have a feel of how much improvement
has been done from 1.43
you can download it in HTC website.
Thanks for your help so far..
I would like to go for the 1.66 official ROM first, so I'll find that on here first and find the exe file so I dont have to mess about with compatible radio's.
Just before I HSPL it, I would like a copy of the original 1.43 T-Mobile ROM, so better get searching.
Thanks again
Glyn
the original 1.43 T-Mobile ROM is on HTCs website so get it from there as a backup
THANKYOU!!
Thankyou so much for your help and guidance.
Last night I decided to just do it - the phone was so poor I couldn't take it anymore.
3 hours from start of backing up, to installing HSPL2, to flashing with 1.66, anf then restoring data
I cant believe the transformation - I am so pleased I didnt throw it at a wall!!!
So a massive thanks to the members of this community
im in the same boat... got a stock uk hd2 on tmobile and wasn't to flash a new rom but the information is overwhelming and im scared I will flash a wrong rom and kill my phone :0)

theres nothing to it. the 'normal' hd2 which you do have, is about the safest phone to flash in the world today, with HSPL2. The 'radios killing phones' problem that started last week is specific to the t mobile US model only, , the one with 1 gig rom.
If you install HSPL on your phone, and then only flash over USB, the very worst that will happen (from a software point of view) is that the phone stops at a grey screen, and/or only boots into bootloader, so you boot into bootloader, you flash something else, and it's fixed.
The T Mo UK stock rom is available to download as backup, (as is o2 and voda for anyone looking) in the 'LEO official roms' thread in rom development, first post, first link, first folder (1.43)
At any time, you can flash that rom from sd card (look it up if you need to) and restore everything, spl, radio and rom, , to factory settings.
In all honesty, so long as you are careful, methodical, don't pull out USB cables halfway through, laptop battery dies, etc , then you are more likely to get bricked from some freak incident, like , umm, battery dieing, heh.
Fear not! be smart, be careful, try to understand what you are doing and why at each step, read up on what an spl is, and the job is , as they say, sorted.

Hi Samsamuel,
Thanks.. just one more thing.
Saw on youtube that i have to format my SC card
youtube.com/watch?v=nrmlqrfCvas[/url]
is this so and is this referring to the sd card in the HTC or my own sd card used to download the 1.66 onto?

PS. why won't this forum allow me to send you a PM?.. i can't send any msg's at all.

[Q] Trying to do first step to flashing NAND android

I'm very, very new to HD2's world of extreme customizations and is very unaware of the terminology and other things flashing. At this point I'm trying to flash a NAND android to rid the phone of Windows Mobile 6.5. I believe my phone is a HD2 with 512MB Rom and 448MB RAM. Are there any additional specifications I need to avoid bricking my device in the process?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
So now I'm not sure if I still need to flash the HSPL for MAGLDR to work. Thanks for your time.
I'm assuming that you're using this link, correct?
Anywho, you've already flashed HSPL2.08 so no need to reflash it. Next step is find a radio then onward...
That's what had me bothered. I bought this phone from overseas and it came sealed and all. I've never tinkered with it and I'm confused as to how it had HSPL on it, is it even the correct SPL to flash this radio without bricking?
Flash that radio (great radio, btw) and the go on to flash Android and you're done.
Incidentally, you've got a 2nd hand phone there - I 100% guarantee it.

Going back to windows mobile 6.5 from Android- SIMPLE

Hello,
Heres the story:
I sold today my htc hd2 and someone came by to my house to get it and pay. Now i got a message that he cant get used to android. Now I need info for a simple instalation of windows mobile on the htc hd2. Like Getting a windows mobile RUU.exe and simple install it with 1 setup. The phone has hyperdroid, magdlr 1.13, cwm 1.3
I need your answer fast.
David
You can just download the official rom and flash it over usb, it will overwrite everything, HSPL, radio, splash screen, everything back to stock. Or you could do the same with most other wm6.5 roms, but if you're giving it to someone not comfortable with it and you don't want to be their phone support guy for the next however long, I would give them the phone stock, or link them to the proper official rom.
If you have a US T-Mobile HD2 (1024): http://support.t-mobile.com/doc/tm54430.xml?
If you have an HTC HD2 (512): http://www.htc.com/www/SupportDownloadList.aspx?p_id=297&act=sd&cat=2
The above instructions are correct, but did not mention that if you have flashed HSPL and MAGLDR that you will need to flash the stock ROM from an SD card that is under 2Gig in size. Just copy the original ROM file to the card, enter bootloader mode and go from there.
One thing, though - if the person who bought your phone can't get used to Android, he's in bigger trouble than he thinks. I mean, what the hell did he think he was buying? Is it that he can't get used to a PDA phone, a touch screen or does he prefer communicating by carrier pigeon? Rhetorical questions, I know, but geez... what the F did the guy think he was getting, and why is it now your problem?
I'm no expert, but I thought I remembered hearing something about how you weren't supposed to flash the original rom from sd, because it somehow makes it so you can't reflash hspl later if you change your mind.
Not 100% on that by any means.
I know this may involve an extra step, but to avoid usage of SD flashing, you can flash a custom HD2 WM6.xx ROM. Then flash the stock ROM..

That may have been the case in the early stages of HSPL development. If you flashed the wrong rom and got stuck on an spl that was not supported by the HSPL versions out then that was so. This is no longer the case now with all spl versions being able to be HSPL'd.
I gave him an link to an official RUU wm 6.5 NL rom. It's an exe file. I told him he haves to run this exe file in android and if that doesnt work he haves to go to boot menu (holding volume down) and if that's doesn't work he haves to try out the usb flasher option in magdlr. I also gave him the link to this forum post.
here is a simplier way to explain it. i use it sometimes if i forget how to do it...

Hi, New to HD2 but not to flashing ROMs ( Mogul, polaris, TyTN 2) got a second hand TMobile USA yesterday. Came with a nand Android 2.2 install, Magldr v 1.11 and spl 2.08 hspl. I intend to flash back to the stock rom ( latest version T-Mobile HD2 MR Software (Version 3.14.531.1 ) so I can dual boot with an sd android install. I also intend to check out some of the custom 6.5 builds along the way.
Have installed HTC sync for Android and and all appears to be good. I can also get a usb connection while in bootloader.
I'm assuming its as simple as the 2nd post but I don't want to brick my new phone on my first day . Would somebody please confirm that I'm not making any obvious mistakes? I gather I will then need will need to flash a new HSPL, which version is recommended for my purposes?
I apologize in advance for asking such a simple question but the HD2 forums are new to me and much larger than those for any of my old phones. I have been reading for most of the past week and think I know what I'm doing but I might be completely wrong.
EDIT
Is anybody out there?
I know that posting in "[GUIDE] Flashing Your First HD2 NAND Android Rom [For Newbs]" would be more appropriate but I can't seem to post in it as I just get a bulletin message saying I don't have permission. This is the closest thread I can find for my question.
Many Thanks in anticipation of a reply
Oh well. No replies. looks like I will just have to give it a go. Will play with some other Nand android builds first and upgrade MAGLDR to 1.13. Will also experiment with different radios to see if I can improve battery life as it is shocking (loses nearly 30% in 7 hours while 'asleep").
BTW I think my current radio is 2.08.50.08 (settings/software information/baseband version - second half of string). Happy to stand corrected if this is not where you find the radio version in android - as I said before I'm new to this OS.
In case anyone is wondering. The reason for multiple posts in a dead thread is to reach the number required to post on the more appropriate development thread.
Hope that does not upset anyone. I do promise to come back to this thread and post how I got on. ie successes, failures, tips etc.

[Q] Noob question: [KERNEL:AmCanAndroid r516]

so i have read here and there about how to put an android on my htc hd2. I decided to root my phone sometime this week and chose to follow :AmeriCanAndroid AOSP HD2 GB234 CM71|bkup2sdext234 [KERNEL:AmCanAndroid r516]. While following this guide, im under the impression that my radio and stuff wont automatically be flashed or am i wrong? Or will following the guide put my phone where it needs to be? Thanks for working with a noob appreciate it

None of the Android ROMs will automatically flash a radio on your phone.
You have to manually do that using the radio thread. The "r" in the kernel name does not mean radio, it is just the revision number of the kernel so you can keep track of version.
Edit:
and FYI, American Android is an SD only ROM, which means you can actually run it without modifying anything on your phone and keeping it completely stock, you'd just have to launch it from WinMo first.
You can flash HSPL, MAGLDR, then run it from that (which means you would not have to load up WinMo first), but it is still not ever "flashed" to your phone, it is only run off the SD card.
alright understood thank you very much, so for that build i do not need to see which version of hspl i need as it does not require one. I would check which hspl i'd need if i wanted to auto book into android itself correct? anything else to worry about besides radio and hspl that i may have over looked?

Nope,
Any questions on that ROM just ask in thread.
If you are running the latest WinMo ROM, then your radio is 12.15.50 and you are good to go, since that's the radio most custom ROM users use anyways.
your "SPL" (secondary program loader) will be stock and it does not matter. If you want to boot straight into Android from the bootloader, flash WP7, or flash Android to your internal storage, you will need to flash HSPL 2.08, which is very easy and takes a grand total of about 30 seconds.
Just check the HSPL thread in WinMo upgrades, use HSPL4 and flash version 2.08

[Q]noob questions and noob help

hey guys i just got my htc hd2 and ive been playing with it lately but i cant seem to "crack the code" of this whole customization thing
i have been reading the guides and its been confusing and more confusing and more confusing now im completely lost cause i have no idea where the radio is coming from the custom rom or the file names that are mentioned in the guide. no doubt i feel dumb and retarded but a little help would be appreciated please and thank you.
i have htc hd2 t-mobile north america 1024 mb
i have installed hspl through the tool kit dont know if it worked or not i tried check it all looks the same to me. i dont know what to do next through the tool kit or the guides im trying to install cm7 nightly fingers crossed and still trying and phone isnt bricked. so any help would be great cause i have no understanding of what is going on at all like i am out, totally out of my mind trying to figure out the terms and procedures.
if anybody could point me to an extremely noob guide that would be great cause i read some and my brain is dead.
thanks alot appreciated to the max

You have to be careful when flashing the radio on a tmous model. This is where you can brick your phone. Do not use the radio that is used in the guide. I think it is not compatible Ruth the tmous hd2. Read here about it when you do not know what your doing. You should not start flashing before you understood everything what you do.
This is a step by step guide which you would have found when reading the stickies....
Sent from my HD2
alright...calm down. Before you want to embark on any customization, ensure you have the correct HSPL and a radio on your phone. First enter the bootloader. Check your current SPL version. It should read HSPL2.08 if you have flashed HSPL correctly. If its correct, download and flash Leo_RADIO_2.15.50.14** (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787). If you want to flash any another radio, ensure it is a .50 version(x.xx.50.xx**) After flashing the radio, enter the bootloader and check if the HSPL and radio is correct before you move on. If you want to flash a custom WM rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=534), please do. Ensure that the ROM is compatible with the TMOUS HD2 (compatibility will normally be stated in the first post). A complete and detailed guide on all of the above can be found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=653614).
I understand that you want CM7 on your phone. To play safe, i recommend that you stick with windows mobile and tinker with a SD Android build before you to venture into dual booting WP7 and android.
Download an Android SD build (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=735). I am using AmeriCan Android (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957652). After extracting, copy the Android Folder into the root of your sd card. Boot into WM, navigate to the Android folder using the file explorer and tap 'clrcad' followed by 'haret'. Android will now boot(first boot will take some time).
Hope this helps and like what rauschkugl said, kindly do some research and reading first. Try the tutorials out and after you are comfortable with flashing, you can move on to WP7, NAND android and dual booting between Wp7 and SD Android: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17282874&postcount=3 (ignore step 1).
Gd luck flashing and enjoy!. Do ask if you are really unsure of something.

update i have installed my first nand cm7 rom feels awesome thanks alot everybody.
any good roms or suggestions for ones with good gps and battery life ?
did you install clockworkmod. if not you should do it because all new roms need it to be installed. i'm running ndt miui right now and for the last 5 month or something like that. tried a lot of roms but battery life on miui in comparison to cm7 was a lot better for me. it also has some nice features that cm doesn't have. but you should try it on your own.
i really can recommend the ndt roms from langthan. he gives great support in his threads and the roms are fast and stable.

to make a clean install you can begin from start (task 29, flash radio etc.)
but to be more practical, if you flash with the same nand partition size you can wipe data factory reset from ad recovery and you can flash new rom.
if they have different nand sizes then you just wipe data factory reset from recovery then apply new cwm partition using usb flasher, then flash new rom.
but all rom cookers recommend clean installation (including reformatting and repartitioning sd)

clockworkmod is for installing roms without the need of a pc. you can also backup your whole rom and restore it. so it is very usefull.
you would have to got to magldr to install it. then you can start cwm by selecting ad recovery in magldr. then cwm will start. if you want to install a rom now all you have to do is put the zip file of the rom to the root of your sd card and select install zip from sd in cwm menu. then chose your rom zip and your done. all new roms use cwm installable zips. so this is the only way to get able to use new roms.
