[Q] Reset factory default doesn't work - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi all,
I Installed android (NAND) on my HD2 and now want to remove all personal data (google account, apps etc.) Normally a factory reset would do this trick, but whatever I do, my accounts etc. remain on the device.
I read something about deleting data.img, but I don't know where to find this file... I even reinstalled android, but that didn't do the trick either.
Can anyone direct me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance,
Mark

try in MAGLDR a Android Hardreset.
If that doesn't work i don't know an other way, instead of a Task 29.

But then you will have to reinstall MAGLDR etc.

Hard Reset

Hi All
Am I right in thinking that all apps apart from standard apps such as word and excel are removed by a hard reset ?
If so how do I reinstall apps that were installed by my PC ie. not via a cab file. Will they install automatically next time I coonct M3100 to PC?
Also where is the best place to install, card or memory ?
Thanx in advance
Asif
After hard reset, you can re-install the apps by connecting to activesync, and then going to add/remove programs in activesync or just install each app by installing it the same way you did the first time...hope you have the software keys also

HELP - Resetting mt3g

Ok I just got an unlocked mytouch 3g that I need to do a factory reset. I've done it at least 5 times now (settings > SD card & phone storage > Factory data reset) and it is not clearing the phone at all.
Doesnt even erase a call log. What do I have to do to restore this to factory. Its almost unusable since it has the old owners info attatched to it. I cant use the app store or anything.
*edit*
Looks like the phone was previousely rooted. Now I have to do some reasearch...
Let me know what you find out... When I decide to try a new rom, I "wipe" my phone by formatting my SDCard, creating 3 partitions, etc., then I install the rom and it seems like the phone still thinks I have installed apps and it already knows my login id's etc., So obviously that stuff is being stored on the phone and not the SDCard so I'd like to know how to get rid of it.
My touch
If your logging into google they store that information on their server.

Switching Roms

Question.
I am a longtime user of Xbmod-yuki roms and sadly he is no longer developing. I was wondering if I load a HD20 romsam I basically doing a fresh install? Or would it be similar to a cab update and keep my apps msgs tones etc? I know it is a silly question and I apologize if it posted I did search around. If it ends up being a clean install what is the best backup program to then reload msgs, photos, xaps etc?
Hi.
Yes it will be a fresh install. All the ROMS i know of require a hard reset after initial install anyway
Photos will remain in Zune ( Collection) so no issues there.
I have tried a few ways to back up and restore before ( when i've tried out various roms) but I've never had much luck. Maybe its just me , my PC or HD2
It kind of makes sense to install fresh apps anyway then at least you know everything is "clean" with your new rom. Can be a bit boring time but doesn't take so long in the end.
Good luck
Thank you for your help
dont forget unlock card first on Yuki ROM
Hey, you can back your app data and saves with a program called Windows Phone Device Manager (google it) it will not back up the apps, though, but after you reinstall them you can sync it. You can also sync contacts, ect with your PC.
Yeah, I know
I keep on looking at the Yuki thread and looking at the 'soon...' messages but I moved on also.
For backing up the HD2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227476&highlight=wp7appbackup
Is the best and when you put the XAP's into the backup folder the utility will re-install all the XAP's and restore all the data in one hit.
Believe me its absolutely fantastic but it wont do your SMS messages and I have not had much luck with the sms backup/restore tool.

Recover contacts (and messages) after factory reset

Hi
yesterday I couldnt start my phone (S5360) anymore. Every time I tried it would freeze during the boot logo. So I tried a factory reset and it worked. But now of course all data has been deleted. Is there a way to get at least my contacts back (maybe my messages too)? Would it help to root the phone and let a recovery program such as Stellar run over the system folders?
I never used google to sync my contacts and didnt create any backup whatsover either....unfortunately.
thanks

i don't think it's possible (easily). your contact saved in internal memory. any recovery software need raw access your media. maybe possible to create partition dump from recovery mode and do recovery to that image, but to really get all your data back you need a lot of work. my advice, enable sync to google contact. it's help a lot, especially if you have multiple android device or change your rom frequently.
btw, we already have Q/A section. better to put this kind of question in that section.
for the contact...you can make a backup easily by import your contact into your sdcard (*vcf file). thats the easiest method. for the sms, there are a lot of sms backup app out there. use your hand a little bit on google and you'll surely find it.

problems with restoration

the problem is the following, I want to delete all the apps from the phone, I will reset the settings and reestablish it, when I start andorid, fill all the data it asks me, at the end I have the same applications again, I have deleted everything from the menu recovery, and I have done the same but they are not still using the same apps, I have even deleted everything from recovery and created a new gmail account (just in case there was a backup in drive), but it still does not work. So my question is this: Where are the applications restored from, if I have a different gmail account and have deleted everything from recovery ', HELP.

So normally when you factory reset the phone and then go through setup again, it should ask you to restore from backup or setup your phone as new. When you setup your phone as "new", it shouldn't install your apps again but it will install all default Google apps as usual.
