Under the sunshine, I can see my screen is full of dust, I just used my handset for 2 weeks, anyone experienced the same?
Are you sure your not seeing the dot matrix of the digitizer for touch? Theres two layers, one about 1mm apart, the others about 5mm

Of course I am NOT seeing the dot matrix of the digitizer for touch.
Just asking... Seems to be a common misconception
That is covered under htc's warranty but I don't see how dust got under when the lcd is laminated to the digitizer, theres no gap from what I can tell but I could be wrong. Either way it should be covered

every DHD I've seen (5) had dust between digitizer and lcd.
It's supposed to happen with lcd screens don't worry. They're charged, and therefore attract charged particles like dust. Try rubbing it with a lint free cloth
No,the dust is between the lcd and the digitizer so the cloth won't do!

Every DHD I've seen ( 3) had NO dust between digitizer and lcd. All 3 were german vodafone DHD' s.
But in german android bulletin boards there are some DHD's with dust problems. All affected DHD's are brandnew and have 1 -2 dust particels between digitizer and lcd

Dude, dust under the screen is NOT supposed to happen, they are SEALED together in a dust free facility. Or what is supposed to be dust free
Dust UNDER the digitizer is a valid reason for a replacement.

I have no dust particles in my phone (orange black)
When I fitst got the phone I checked the screen very carefuly for flaws like this but it is perfect.
I dont see how dust could get there during use so if you do have this problem I would send the phone back.

Ive had my DHD for about 4 months now maybe more .....theres no dust under my screen.....checked it just now with a Led torch....and i dont keep it in a case and it aways resides in my pocket next to my snotty tissues
There have been reports of dust under the digitiser on many HTC phones, typically around the side-mounted volume controls. Is this where the dust seems to be penetrating?
I've had this issue on my Topaz since around 1 month after buying it. I keep my DHD in a leather pouch, though, so I can't comment on penetration with this phone.
I have 1 bit under my screen. Been there since I got it. Only visible with screen off in sun light so I just live with it... I've customised my phone far too much to live without it for a few weeks while it's with HTC for repair! I'll wait until a bigger issue appears.

One day after I got my DHD (EU) it has a little piece of dust/lint in the screen.
You can see it when the screen is off, when the screen is on, you can only see it with bright pictures or white screen.
But im in the same case as suntung, I don't want to loose my DHD, I can't miss it!
I already tried to put my DHD on my mouth, and suck air out of the phone, with the hope I could suck the dust away, but sadly it didn't work.

I read somewhere that it was (wish I could remember where but I'm pretty sure it was a major blog). Either way, I am a daredevil and risked my phone by scratching the hell out of it with my keys and it looks perfect (I still don't recommend it but I'm sending mine back to T-Mobile for another reason so I figured I'd risk it). It feels at least as good as the N1 screen. No screen protector here.
It is definitely glass.
So if its glass, no need for screen protector

Confirm or deny?
So... can anyone confirm this or deny it? I saw a review on TmoNews that said it did, but, have yet to see anyone else say it does. Not sure I believed the guy seemed like crackhead lol
had T-mo rep and htc rep say NO GORILLA GLASS...
corning (mfg of GG) makes no mention whatsoever of ANY HTC devices with GG
it is a very durable glass like surface, and i have yet to use a protector but afaik no GG
So our screen is plastic?

What do you guys do with your phones that gorilla glass is such a must-have? I have had my mt3g 1.0 for a year and there's not a scratch on it. If you treat it like it's an expensive piece of electronic hardware, it'll probably fare well. It ain't a frisbee.
http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/featured-products
I don't remember how, but yesterday the phone's screen got a really deep scratch. **** is deep, my fingernail gets caught in it. Also there are small light scratches also if you hold it up to sunlight or any light and look close.
Alright maybe this does or doesn't but its always worth inputting your two cents, right?
Remember there were or are TWO different types of screens the good display from China and the bad from elsewhere.
Maybe, maybe! The good display has GG while the bad display has cheap glass?

Nope? I have the type 2 screen (good) and I still got light scratches and the big deep one. It's annoying me enough so I placed an order for a replacement. And this time, deff using a screen protector, or not. At least until I get the Senstation.

hi all,
i have heard that the the screen is not gorilla glass. but is it scratch resistant? because im thinking of purchasing one and should i buy a screen protector first? have anyone checked if there are dead pixels for the new slcd screen?
thanks!
I think it is scratch resistant, some videos on youtube test that. Try to search "t-mobile g2 scratch test". But i'm not sure about this.. since it's not gorilla

I have one dead pixel, in the lower left region of the screen. It's barely noticeable - only when the screen is completely black.
i always put on a screenprotector.. better to be safe than to regret not putting it on after theres a scratch on it.

so far i have checked one desire z and noticed that there were 2 dead pixels. got turned off so i will be trying again this weekend.
My desire got a couple of very small and faint scratches on it, annoyed me so much that I was glad that my Z came with screen protectors, no more scratches
They are not expensive at all and most give them away free so I would say your better off using one.

I don't think so -- or HTC would surely mention it on their specs page.
http://www.htc.com/www/product/desirez/specification.htm
However, it seems to be a very durable screen -- but after using it a couple of weeks without a protector I decided to put one on anyway. Throwing it into a pocket with keys or loose change will probably mess it up.
EDIT: Ooops, I see you were talking specifically about the HD.
i guess it would be best to get a screen protector asap to avoid getting scratches. any other experiences there with their desire z's screen?
I was at Circuit City and had a demo Z in my hands. The sales rep pulled out his keys from his pocket and started scratching the glass pretty hard. After he wiped the screen clean (from finger print smudges) screen was not scratched and looked new.
I asked him if he was told to do that and he said he was instructed to show that to customers. A truly awesome phone, the hinge is not an issue either, it's solid.

I can't believe that video really. It was just uploaded yesterday. I lost my nerve when he used the knife there.
I always had a fear that what happens if my wildfire falls down. Wildfire looks to be slim, delicate and more weighted. Initially i felt like having barely visible scratches on my phone. Then i spent some money on having screen protector (it is wildfire specific & costed a little more than normal). My screen protector is excellent and it is so nice that none of my friends noticed the presence of it. Now im not gonna remove my screen protector and experiment on my phone. I hope my screen protector will be as long as my wildfire will be. I also got a strong pouch (it was actually the one for G8) to get rid of my fear. I love both of them.

Mine has fallen down like 5 times,( there are 2 times it fell down from 1 meter height) and nothing happen , I'm serious
Lol , 1st time mine hit the hard wood floor , my buddy was playing with it saying nice feel not too big when he flicked it face down at the floor
few more little bumps and scraps
Then i was building a bike. Bent over with it in my top pocket - slammed onto a large socket, i dreaded picking it up , one small scratch
not sure if its gorilla but they are tough , my bro has smashed 3 iphones
Actually I dropped mine couple of times. After the first couple of the falls, nothing really happened. Not even a scratch. However, after the last drop (a big one), nothing happened to the glass and the touchscreen covering the lcd, but the lcd underneath got messed up. I had to replace it with another lcd i purchased from ebay.
So the glass is pretty tough, however the inner parts of the phone not so much...

mine fell a few times and nothing happened (I always wondered if my screenprotector has a positive effect on toughness or not). A friend of mine accidently dropped his wildfire though, and his screen is broken in many many places (same for another friend with a desire).
Golla glass is nnot scratxh proof
I wish my screen was that tough. If it was then i wouldnt have 2.2.1 because while looking for it on my sofa. I. Kinda. Knelt on it. Screen made a pop. Next thing i see is a glass shattered wildfire. Sent it off for repair. Came back with 2.2.1

That's unfortunate. And that's the thing everyone with rooted wildfire has to be aware of. Even if they are under warranty, they had to think whether to use warranty or not (for hardware problems).
And so I think gorilla glass doesn't mean it sustains the damage when hit hardly with a rock.

The oldest htc desire got an amoled screen whereas the latest htc desire got an slcd screen.
I'm not sure, but there might be a chance that the older wildfire didn't get gorilla glass and the newly manufactured wildfire might have got it. Because we see the videos supporting both the opinions.

got a couple very very small scratches after many users said they never had one. I dunno maybe I'm rougher with my phone than I thought

no screen protector since day 1 (bought sometime in Feb/Mar) and still on perfect condition. It has gorilla glass: http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/products-with-gorilla/htc
so IMHO I don't think you need to worry. I've learned this with my hero. stupid me putting a screen protector not knowing the glass itself has better scratch resistance than the screen protector I bought.
a little off topic, I'm looking for the perfect case though. as stelth300 stated, the chrome part (and probably the metal back) does seem to need a good case.
I got mine the day it came out, whenever that was, and never used a case or screen cover. I have a few small scratches on the middle of the screen, but you can only see them when the screen is off. Also the coating on my battery door is starting to peel away in some spots. And the metal ring around the camera lens fell off.
I dragged a key on it to test it. It wouldnt scratch. Gorilla glass!
As you'll see here, the MT4G has Gorilla Glass, so it is exceptionally tough. I've seen people drag keys across it and there isn't a scratch after.

I feel the same about my old G1. The screen doesn't feel near as tough as my MT4G's. Maybe there are different versions of Gorilla Glass, and the newer phones have a tougher model.
use gorilla glass, once you have it you wont regret it and its worth it
I use a screen protector due to dust and not scratches, I also have a case that seals the edges from dust. That is my real concern.

This is true, I have never been able to get it perfectly, and I can't smooth out all the bubbles either. It's annoying to look at sometimes but there's not much i can do about it. Sometimes I don't use a case so I have my phone with other things in my pockets.
run mine naked, ended up with a minor scratch most likely from something in my pocket. I have to really look for it when the screen is off, don't even notice when screen is on. Had mine since release.
My wife on the other hand... I think it was the first 2 weeks before she managed to put a scratch in the screen. I think she dropped it in the car onto a upward pointing nail file.
Had mine since about a month before it was officially announced to be released.
Never used a screen protector.
I dont have a case and also have dropped the phone NUMEROUS times, on the concrete, face down (in fact, more times than I can remember- and probably an ongoing couple of times a week, at normal ))
I have a very minimal amount of "scratches" on the screen; however there is a very small sort of dent on the the edge from the impact of one of the falls.

Both my S4's don't have that. I would try and get it exchanged under warranty.
I have a tiny piece of hair under my HTC one screen and it's kinda s bother. Unfortunately the store policy where I got it from don't allow for exchange, so am keeping it this way until HTC does something about it. Seems like HTC and Samsung were rushing the production up and forgot all about quality control.

There is a vid of the factories that assemble cell phones and tablets. It's interesting..i was impressed the women are working fast and professionally but it bugged me that there is absolutely no dust control, lint free clothes, hair nets, etc. Basically theres a good chance every device will have stuff on the display under the glass. I think most people just think it happened when they put it in their pocket the first time.
