i sent them an email and they said that the hero, hd2 etc with capacitive screens are scratch resistant that is why no screen protector is included. i would feel better if they would really write it or something. i dont want to use protectors anymore and trust their product.
No scratch
My Legend is over 2 months old and no scratch so far, but the display is a finger print nightmare.

i know! so what do you use to clean the screen? i just realy want to stop using screen protectors. if htc is not providing any, i would believe that it is scratch resistant.
water is enough!
I think, generally, most screens now are pretty resistant. Screen protectors are highly overrated in my experience, and honestly most of them look worse than the scratches would. Why make something look bad, in attempt to protect it from looking worn
Anyway my Legend seems to be very resistant, even to fingerprints. As long as you wash your hands once in a while it's great at resisting fingerprints.
No scratches so far and I have it since the release. Also when I put my phone in my pocket and get it back out all my fingerprints are wiped off .
when i got my legend, i was really blown away by how beatiful and crisp the screen was. i placed an anti fingerprint screen protector and it made the entire screen look dull and less vibrant. but i dont want my legend to get scratched etc. but i really think htc is making scratch resistant screens. i also sent an email to htc regarding the phones screen and this is their response.
we suggest you to purchase a pouch to protect your phone instead of the non-official screen protector.Normally the touch screen of hero or legend is scratch resistant but HTC cannot promise and guarantee any potential risks to the screen by user's careless using.
so its not really reaounding that it is scratch resistant like when iphone or se says it. so im not that confident. but i really want to remove the protector.
I'm using a pouch, I'm not a big fan of screenprotectors. Pouch = great for protecting your phone against scratches .
Unfortunately they're not going to be very ballsy in any claims especially since the person replying to your email is just a random rep. Plus they're not like Apple who only has a few phones to focus on and hype about.
It all comes down to what's in your pocket with you put the phone in there. I basically have one pocket for the phone and nothing else. The other pocket can hold the keys, etc.
I have noticed that the screen must be made of something seriously dense because it nearly shaves my thumbnail if I run it along the home button the wrong way. That itself gives me a lot of confidence in it, oddly enough.

I'm looking for an ultra slim pouch made specifically for the Legend so there's no added bulk. Any idea? Nothing from http://www.senacases.com or http://www.beyzacases.com yet.

that is what i do as well. i put my phone in a seperate pocket and check for any lint or anything before putting it in, then wallet, coins, keys go to the other pocket. i just hope that htc can really say that it is. i asked them about the screen of hd2 and they said it was scratch resistant, but nothing was said officially though. so quite hard to risk. tsk tsk. they should just say it instead of saying that it is glass covered.

I also bought HTC PO S491 Legend Standard Leather Pouch. I think it is the perfect match since it's HTC genuine accessory made for Legend. It's very slim and the leather quality is really high. I would recommend this pouch to every Legend owner.
Too bad they don't seem to ship to Canada... sigh....

Screen protector...
I've always used screen protectors since my first Pocket PC way back in 2001. It's a personal preference, but my feeling is this; If HTC believe the screen is scratch resistant and therefore a screen protector is not needed, why do they manufacture them specifically for this device?
I purchased a pack of 2 when I bought my Legend last month - genuine HTC Legend screen protectors!!?? Why make them if you don't think the device needs them?

i have been using htc phones since 2007, ive had a lot of phones and they usually provide screen protectors. since i bought hero and hd2 they never provided it for screen protectors, so its quite weird for them not to provide for hd2 for their largest screen. i somehow believe that the screen is really scratch resistant. in my opinion
i personally use screen protectors on my cellphone/smartphone.

Weird, I have my Zagg on and it looks fine. Unless of course your talking about when the screen is off.
I'm using an XtremeGuard which I got off eBay for $2.50. It is wonderful!! It had bubbles and stuff when the screen was off when I first put it on, but EVERYTHING cleared up within 2-3 days. I used a mild soapy water to put it on, so it was kinda "rainbow" looking when the screen was lit up, but all of that has since dried up. The screen is crystal clear both on and off. If you didn't know there was a screen protector on there, you would see it. You can tell by touching it, it feels a little more grippy, which I actually like. Also it hasn't intefered with the performance of the touchscreen as well, I'm 100% satisfied with it.

Mine is still as naked as the day I bought it. Mint condition, too.

Mine looked terrible at first too, but after about a day, I guess the liquid fully dried and it didn't look cloudy anymore.
Bought a 3-pack from a Sprint store.
Don't use the anti-glare one. It significantly lowers the image quality.
It's akin games which use the film grain effect, except here you'd want the clarity instead of fancy effects.
Thank you all for your responses, I really appreciate it. I guess it only looks bad because I got a few scratches on the screen protector itself but I guess that's why you buy them in the first place. I might call to get a replacement if it gets any worse, these have a lifetime warranty.

That is exactly the reason I don't use a screen protector. They are made out of plastic and will scratch easily. The glass that is covering the LCD is made out of glass and VERY difficult to scratch. Seems like a waste of money to me. I had 3 iPhones and never had a scratch in the glass.
Did not work for me
I bought an invisi shield Saturday and they put it on my phone, I have had problems typing with it. I even tried to recalibrate the typing but it was not even able to type the first letter. Therefore, I took the front shield off and i am able to type with no problem now. Sucks.. maybe they put it on wrong because my wife's phone is working fine with it on. Life time warranty on it so Im going to take it back and have them try it again.

How is the fit on that screen protector? Does it fit exactly all the way around? Is there a space around the edges?
Thanks!
I just got a screen protector put on mine (first time ever having one on) and now it screws up my swyping in... swype... it confuses it... messed with settings and everything.... pain in the...
+1 for Anti-Glare.
I know most people do not like them because they "reduce" the colors or quality of the screen, but I like the fake that it provides a smooth surface and doesn't leave any fingerprints compared to Crystal-Clear screen protectors
I got the Zagg (actually I am on the second one, as the first came off in my pocket and got covered with lint).
I should say that Zagg is great, they sent me a new one with no questions asked and even waived the shipping, since the replacement was requested so quickly after purchase.
In any case, I am now second guessing my decision after viewing a youtube video on the scratch resistance of the screen.
Just go to youtube and search for "HTC EVO screen test". (sorry, as a new user I am unable to post the link).
Here's the link. Pretty impressive.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeoAl-94bks
I've used all kinds of screen protectors for all my devices until the ZuneHD, which is supposed to have Corning Gorilla Glass, supposedly super scratch resistant. Long story short, i pulled it out of my pocket where it was by itself and it had a nice fat scratch on the surface. Brought it back to Best Buy, got another one, and swearing to never trust any claims to scratch resistance.
Using a clairvue clear on my Evo 4g, and clairvue antiglare on a tp2, and a martin fields on a tp1, all 3 are well protected and i've never been happier.
So I'm trying hard to keep my phone from getting even one scratch until my cases come in, which should be any day now.....
....then today I freakin' drop it on the concrete by accident.
I feel like $#!t ...my heart sank.... damn it!!!
BUT, on the bright side I am very surprised on how well it took the hit. The phone dropped and actually rolled a couple of times, yet it only marked up the plastic/metal looking trim that goes around the phone.
By any chance do you think the rim piece would be available later for a replacement part? Gosh I sure hope so. I'm desperate to go rip off the trim at the T-Mobile store
...I keep telling myself....it could have been worse right?
Bottom line: For how hard it hit the concrete, I'm impressed...since it was dark I was thinking it was going to be way worse, until I held it to the light to see the damage. Thank goodness for not a cracked screen....
BTW: I have the 3M screen protector. If it wasn't for that it would have for sure had some mean scratches on the screen....sigh..
Ouch.. I did the same with my new Touch Pro (current phone) and it also ended up with some dings on the sides, but that phone's partially metal with a plastic screen.
Since one of the frequent criticisms of this series of phones is the build quality, glad it looks like the Vibrant's made pretty well after all if it can survive that with only cosmetic damage.
you should put a warning in the title, those pics are way to graphic.

Yea I agree that the Vibrant is well made. I've read a lot of some people commenting on the material and all, but obviously they have no idea how well the made it is. Heck, I'm kind of glad it wasn't heavy and bulky.....

A gel skin would cover those up nicely. I decided to get one in the first place because even though I love the feeling of this phone without the skin on, I hate scratches/dents a lot more.
I had a bad track record with my G1 too... dropped it like 4 times
You should link me to where you bought your screen protector. I got Tmobile generic ones, but they suck, so I bought one from eBay. What I've got was this super thick, weird feeling protector, leaves too many bubbles, sucked. Bought another one, which is identical to ones you buy at the store, works good, but doesn't cover the bottom part of the phone.

The best one IMO is the one from clearfreak, which is the one I have. Just make sure when applying it, to follow their directions. You have to spray it with water, wet your fingers and squeegee the water out with the little tool it comes with.
It's made out of 3M and you can't even tell it's on. All the other screen protectors like the generic ones really mess up the touch response. It's not as responsive from what I've noticed. Stay away from chEapBAY if you know what I mean...those are all pieces of junk from china, hence 5x protectors for $0.99US

Very interesting you asked that because I was curious at first as well. However, I must say that once I did put it on, it didn't alter the quality at all.
As for it being sticky, I assume you mean on the surface when you glide your fingers across it right? Well...it depends if your hands are dry or not....it really doesn't bother me and I think it works fine...the only time it may be a little resistant is when your hands are sweaty. I think that would go for most all screen protectors though...

I can't believe that video really. It was just uploaded yesterday. I lost my nerve when he used the knife there.
I always had a fear that what happens if my wildfire falls down. Wildfire looks to be slim, delicate and more weighted. Initially i felt like having barely visible scratches on my phone. Then i spent some money on having screen protector (it is wildfire specific & costed a little more than normal). My screen protector is excellent and it is so nice that none of my friends noticed the presence of it. Now im not gonna remove my screen protector and experiment on my phone. I hope my screen protector will be as long as my wildfire will be. I also got a strong pouch (it was actually the one for G8) to get rid of my fear. I love both of them.

Mine has fallen down like 5 times,( there are 2 times it fell down from 1 meter height) and nothing happen , I'm serious
Lol , 1st time mine hit the hard wood floor , my buddy was playing with it saying nice feel not too big when he flicked it face down at the floor
few more little bumps and scraps
Then i was building a bike. Bent over with it in my top pocket - slammed onto a large socket, i dreaded picking it up , one small scratch
not sure if its gorilla but they are tough , my bro has smashed 3 iphones
Actually I dropped mine couple of times. After the first couple of the falls, nothing really happened. Not even a scratch. However, after the last drop (a big one), nothing happened to the glass and the touchscreen covering the lcd, but the lcd underneath got messed up. I had to replace it with another lcd i purchased from ebay.
So the glass is pretty tough, however the inner parts of the phone not so much...

mine fell a few times and nothing happened (I always wondered if my screenprotector has a positive effect on toughness or not). A friend of mine accidently dropped his wildfire though, and his screen is broken in many many places (same for another friend with a desire).
Golla glass is nnot scratxh proof
I wish my screen was that tough. If it was then i wouldnt have 2.2.1 because while looking for it on my sofa. I. Kinda. Knelt on it. Screen made a pop. Next thing i see is a glass shattered wildfire. Sent it off for repair. Came back with 2.2.1

That's unfortunate. And that's the thing everyone with rooted wildfire has to be aware of. Even if they are under warranty, they had to think whether to use warranty or not (for hardware problems).
And so I think gorilla glass doesn't mean it sustains the damage when hit hardly with a rock.

The oldest htc desire got an amoled screen whereas the latest htc desire got an slcd screen.
I'm not sure, but there might be a chance that the older wildfire didn't get gorilla glass and the newly manufactured wildfire might have got it. Because we see the videos supporting both the opinions.

Just a diff way of lookin at things.
I did and always have had one on all my other phones. I wasn't happy with the display after that. I "drop bank" on a fine phone and was diminishing the quality of what i saw on the screen, so I took it off. The display was one of the features i bought the phone for.

I wouldn't put a cheap screen protector on my phone, but I would prob rather have a cheap one than nothing. Zagg and/or Skintech I can say from personal experience are amazing, must have screen protector(s) for any device. You will not be disappointed with either purchase. Today my Atrix, iPad and Captivate are all protected with them (plus Otterbox) and they all look like they just came out the box, they are completely flawless like they just come off the factory line. A finger has never touched the screens.

if however you're looking to replace the entire screen, googling "atrix replacement screen" turns up an iFixit page listing a few vendors for atrix screens:

Thanks for your post mate, appreciate your help. Couldn't search online from my phone at the time but I could post to XDA so thought I'd give you guys a try.
Thanks again for your info.

I've never used a screen protector on any of my phones and I've had A LOT. And I've never had even a tiny scratch on any of them.
It goes down to how you treat your phone. Ofcourse handling it like a Gorilla will screw it up. No Glass can save that so by all means if you're one, put the damn protector on other than that, she does look better naked

if you switch phones often, not sure if it's even worth it buying those cheap screen protectors even if they are like 1 dollar.
if you switch phones a lot, don't bother, but if you want no scratches, you should have just put on a screen protector before you really used it.
you can really see the scratches when you are using your phone unless it's a deep huge scratch. i have a bunch of hairline scratches on my phone, you can even tell when i'm using the phone. when the screen is off, you can spot a few if you look really closely.

I never understood why anyone puts a cheap screen protector on their phone and messes up the quality of the display?....
Just a diff way of lookin at things.
I did and always have had one on all my other phones. I wasn't happy with the display after that. I "drop bank" on a fine phone and was diminishing the quality of what i saw on the screen, so I took it off. The display was one of the features i bought the phone for.

Fixing the appearance of an ugly screen protector is an easy fix. Plus there are many different kinds of screen protectors to choose from. Fixing a scratch, not as easy...

Well, Gorilla-glass IS scratch resistant. But only to a degree. Just like with waterproof watches - that only works a couple of meters near the surface.
To be fair, it's extremely hard to do a noticeable scratch on the Atrix. If you carry it in the pocket for a while, it will get covered with many micro scratches that are barely visible. But to leave a huge scratch on it - you got unlucky mate.
Having said that, I carried my Milestone in the pocket with keys / without screen protector for a year and never had a noticeable scratch.
Gorillag-glass works, but it's not a perfect remedy.
