Has anyone found a good download manager for the Xoom? I'm looking for an app that will allow me to download from sites like Hotfile, Fileserve, etc and open the video, PDF, music files in different apps on the Xoom.
I use DownloadPro on my iPhone and I am looking for something similar.
Any suggestions?
Thanks ahead of time!

A download manager would be pretty cool I think.
Its a necessity for me

I download from fileserve, hotfile & rapidshare to my Xoom.
Install Astro File Manager.
Hit menu> more> preferences> check off "enable web browser downloads".
Files save to the "download" folder in the Xoom file system.
Really? Are you usung the stock browser? For me it just saves as an HTML file or a JPEG of the link button picture.

Blozout,
Will Astro File Manager give you the option to open files (for instance an AVI) in the stock video player or a different player? For example, if you click on a file in the downloads folder does it gives you several options of how to open the file?
Thanks for your help!
I use rockplayer universal to play the movies and download via the stock browser. Try enabling "unkown sources" selection in the main honeycomb settings under "applications" as well.
I download avi files via this method and play them without a problem. Mkv files no luck, but that's a codec issue...I've never used filesonic, but from the 3 file sharing sites above that I mentioned, I've had no problems whatsoever. Give it a try, astro file manager is a free app, no harm, no foul.

Anyone know how to change settings so library only adds files from a certain folder? I have hawx installed which has 500 audio files and the music player has them all listed which is really annoying having to scroll through.

In any folder you do not want scanned by the media scanner for music and video, place a blank file named ".nomedia"
ah ok thanks. Blank file meaning even a document file or something specific?

Glad this was asked. I was curious about the same thing. After installing some games, the music player includes some of the sfx in the playlists. Very annoying. I will try this fix as well.
Thanks for the post.

This works for all nested folders as well. And if you are rooted, you should also check out Rescan Media Root to rescan the sd card on demand. You can disable the startup rescan if you wish and use this as needed. I haven't yet disabled rescan on startup. It doesn't take too long. But if I add the .nomedia to a folder, it's faster to run this app, rather than connecting to a computer, mounting the sdcard and disconnecting to kick off the rescan.
Seems like this problem should have a relatively simple solution, but after googling for quite a while, still can't figure it out.
A friend sent me a link directly to a .mov file. I thought I could just click the link and stream it. Instead, clicking the link in the browser brings up Twonky, which tries to get me to set up media sharing. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to just download (or stream) the .mov file to my phone.
If I can't steam, it looks like an app like arcMedia would allow me to view it once on my phone - but again, how do I get the browser to download instead of trying to open up Twonky when I click the link to the file?
Also, every time Twonky starts, there seems to be no way to close it except togo into settings/applications/running services and close it from there - is there an easier way?
Download act one video player. Works great with streaming media and videos on the sd card

Thanks for the response. I found out that apparently Twonky tries to launch any file that the phone doesn't recognize. I tried to download a few video players including Act 1 that appeared in the "perform action with" dialog when I attempted to open the .mov file directly by clicking it within the email, but none of them worked to actually play the file.
I figured out I could download the .mov file if I went to my email using my browser and long-pressing the link and selecting 'save link' (long-clicking didn't work from within the email program...from there, it just opened the browser and automatically initiated a short-press which tried to stream and brought up Twonky). Once downloaded, then I was able to play with an alternative player (in this case - Vplayer worked, although this particular player didn't seem to support streaming as it didn't appear as an option in the "perform using" dialog that opens when short-clicking the link).
i hate how twonky wont let you download files i have removed it. so i could at least snag the file and keep for when i get home...
For the life of me I can't get the gallery to refresh after I add pictures to my pictures folder. Am I missing something or is this yet another bug?

Took me 2 days to get some imported cam pics to show up.
Try killing the gallery in the task manager. Also try rebooting.
Android gallery has always been crap if not for picasa integration it would be totally useless. Try quick pic. Ugly but very functional.
Thanks..... I tried killing with task manager but no go.
Maybe I should just use Picasso... good lord.
I tried 3d gallery and it wont display correctly at all. Ill check out that apple you mentioned.

Quick pick will work great for me. Thanks again.
Is there any app to view JUST Picasso pics that you know of?
*edit* Picasso tool works, but osmotic made for tab.. either way better than the pic delay of the stock gallery.

Did you copy it from pc to tablet or form different location on your tablet to gallery folder?
If the second option don't use any file managers from the market. Instead use file manager that is included in touchwiz.
Don't know why but all other file managers don't move cache when moving photos.

I did not use the stock file explorer, I used file explorer HD and in this case copied from SD card to the pictures folder.
Ya know, I like the idea of using qucik pic and picassa tool. I can upload to picassa from quick pic and when viewing I can use picassa tool, gallery, web , etc...
With quick pic I can easily hide or remove folders so I don't have this cluster of unwanted pics
I just demo ed the gallery from my media folder all together.
Kind of lame but it is what it is. ...

Use stock explorer and you will notice that there is no problem with photos. Don't know why but I didn't have this problem on transformer.. Weird

Android uses an internal database to remember multi-media files (pics, music and video) so that built-in apps like Gallery, Music and Video players can show them regardless which folder they are located. If you copied any such type of files to the tab using 3rd party tools that does not trigger media scanning, those files will never show up in these apps until next time media scanning runs.
On my Samsung Galaxy S phone, such media scanning is done everytime you power up the phone or disconnect the USB connection in mass storage mode. It is a slow and painful process on the phone.
On my GT 10.1, this process has been some what improved mainly because there is no USB mass storage mode. The default MTP mode will automatically update the database when file transfer occurs. The built-in File Explore can also properly update the database. But if you use 3rd party tool, chances are they will never trigger a media scanning process.
It doesn't matter which folder you copied your pictures into.

Don't want to sound like I'm shooting the messenger here... But... that sucks.
Really, I already have too many options to "open with". The last thing I want to do is remember to use the original file explorer to deal with pictures.
I'm really started to be reminded of a certain apple product... you need an app for that.
If someone just streamlined all the apps to work as one they'd have my money.
In any event thanks for your reply....
Media scanning is part of Android OS design. This is poorly designed and poorly implemented, IMO. On my phone, everytime I power up the phone, it renders my phone unresponsive for a minute or two (depending on how many files and whether or not I have an external SD card). The scanning process needs to scan the entire file system to make sure every media file is indexed in the database.
FWIW I worked around this issue with one of the random market apps for SD updating. There's a number that work, basically it just initiates a refresh manually. Alternately you can plug it into your PC with USB and then unplug it.
Got the name of any of those apps?
I realized you can't change the lock screen from anything but the stock gallery.....

SDRescan, one of the oldest, still usefull apps in the market.
Rescan Media, pretty much the same app with a nicer icon and an auto quit option.
I'm having a horrible time trying to figure out how to do this on my tablet.
On my computer, I simply use a video downloader extension with Firefox.
I have the Flash Video Downloader app for Firefox Beta.
When I click for it to download something, a new window pops up of the file and the size of it.
When I click on that, it brings up my Antek File Explorer app but it won't allow me to save the file as is.
I've tried almost every app at the Google Play Store, websites and Web extension add ons.
What is the easiest way to do this?

Easiest way is to download on your CPU and move to your tablet or use a video downloader app though they don't work all the time and it looks as if you had trouble with them already by your post

Have you tried using a computer to watch that video?
How are you trying to access the video? Have you looked in the gallery?
Also you can try downloading a file explorer app. I use root explorer but if you are not rooted look for file explorer in the app store.
You will want to navigate to storage/emulated/0/dcim to find video files recorded with the camera app that came with the phone.
