It is because depending on which version of Rom you have, it can vary. It is in the build.prop. DJ Steve uses a few different models as the base, and then modifies it to work with the Streak.

I'm using OEM DELL .318. No modifications at all.

I'm on the same ROM as you and mine says the same thing. Hmmmmmmmm

Who builds the Streak for DELL, think maybe HTC is involved somehow?

I dont know but mine says the same thing.

Dell does alot of business with Qisda. For some reason I remember seeing a Qisda pic on my phone somewhere before. Not sure if they build the streaks or not.

The streak has references to it, it's more obvious in the pre-launch betas from what i remember

Mine too.
Unlocked Dell Streak with Stock 2.2 ROM

streak is built by qisda

That facebook app is ****. It thought my incredible was an evo.
Sent from my Dell Streak

it just depends on what rom you are using. it says dhd on streaks running steve's because he used a base dhd rom so somewhere in the files, the rom says its a dhd. software can only go as far as whats programmed in it and display it to you, it cant ACTUALLY tell what phone you are using

I understand that. Butt it doent change the fact that several of us,(me included) are running the stock OEM Froyo ROM(.318) and its showing as a Desire HD as well.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App

well if it helps in anyways, my old nokia n95 used to say it was a desire on facebook too lol. at least on android market web client, it knows our phone is a streak if u go to My Market Account -> Settings

This means absolutely nothing
Facebook thought my HD2 was a Desire HD, at one point, a Hero on another ROM, and these were WM ROMS, LOL! Not even Android. Means exactly NOTHING.

Facebook now knows I have a Streak, I wander what changed? LOL

Thinks mine is too...but that's not a problem, what is a problem is that no matter how many times I tell facebook to use the full site it keeps switching back to the mobile version!

Hi All my Streak thinks its an Optimus Black
I just updated to the latest Version 2.2.2

Mine says: Download Facebook for your Optimus Black
Running
Android Version 2.2.2
OEM Version GAUSB1A134100
Build Number 14917

Facebook thinks my Dell Streak is a LG Optimus Black.. lol explain that one.
BTW my Streak model is M01 AWS 2.2.2 345 build (T-Mobile 3G Version)

Google releases Honeycomb in february? already?

just saw this new on phonearena... two more months for a new version of android and we dont even have a beta ROM of gingerbread xD
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Honeycomb-now-due-for-February-launch-as-Android-2.4_id15400
Maybe Honeycomb was design specifically with tablets/higher res devices in mind?
I agree. Honeycomb was mentioned as being tablet centric. I don't think there will be much that will affect the phone side. I think that's the big reason they're making it a 2.4 release instead of 3.0. That and I think it is also to get more android tablets out before the iPad 2 is released. That's my theory.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
I hope thats the reason... otherwise i will start hating my slide real bad xD
Well look at it this way. T-Mo/HTC can Skip over Gingerbread and go to Honeycomb since the time difference between 2.3 and 2.4 are so short.

If honeycomb is being designed with Tablets in mind, there'd be no reason to put it on a phone. Screen sizes won't match at all.

True but it all depends on what features Google adds in addition to tablet support.
I see Honeycomb as adding Major Support for Tablets. If it was just an update only for Tablets they probably wouldn't given it a codename. Just left it Gingerbread but 2.4. Again just my theory.
i hope 2.4 does end up tablet centric, otherwise it 2.3 would be a waste if time.
MMMM... Honeycomb !

idk about you guys, but personally i am really thankful that we have great engineers at goog working their asses off. they never stop trying to improve on perfection.
cheers.
battery icon recustomized back into htc icon and not in gingerbread icon? funny.
An SE phone using an HTC icon, with Android 2.4 & a 2.2 kernel. Talk about a mish-mash lol
It is the real thing though. the artice is published by a dutch tech site:
tweakers.net/reviews/1944/ces-hands-on-android-24-gingerbread-reloaded.html
The standman actually put the wrong handset into their hands. so they pulled a quick review on it. they confirmed 2.4 ran faster than 2.3 on the same handset also there is some new animations available.
just use google translate on the link above and you can read it a bit..
There's nothing special, if you familiar with software development, bump to next vision is the first thing must to be done after a major version released. so the head branch must be 2.4.

Why? Just because you've never heard of it before?
Remember how quickly Eclair 2.1 came out after Eclair 2.0?
How about giving us 2.3 first before teasing with 2.4?

Here's another video of the Arc, it shows it as having 2.3 and the notification bar is more consistent with that:

No...because its on a Sony phone
their flagship the X10 isnt even getting froyo, i doubt they would get 2.4 first
also. 2.4 with the 32.9 kernel. not likely, it will most likely have at least 34.x kernel. i mean AOSP is up to 35.7 kernel

State of the Os Address

Just read a article that someone posted in the xperia arc forums, and it has a chart with all US carrier pre-froyo phones and how long it took to update to froyo once it came out in may...
Aparrently, only like 7 of 41 pre froyo phones were updated o.o
Andof the samsung family tree, the intercept is the only one to get the update.
I wish I knew how to post links, cuz it was an interesting chart and It shows me we're not alone in this plight.
And, honestly, atleast we got a semi-official froyo build out...the x10 owners are stuck with eclair and a statement from sony erricson saying how they feel the custom 2.1 is on par or better than vanilla ui lol

This link has some info on it. Some guy says you can get it in the Sprint store. Until we get other confirmation though, I call BS. Then again I've also heard Tuesday may be OTA, which may corroborate the above statement. Either way, it is all complete rumor and no sources have proven to be reliable.

Wow sasung is just circle jerking. I wanna know what's so different in the vibrant 4g that it has froyo but the regular vibrant doesn't.
If I'm not mistaken, the only difference is the hspa+ radio and ffc right?
And nah you definitely won't be ale to get it from the sprint store lol and I doubt it'll happen this Tuesday. They're just hanging the carrot infront of our faces, but I don't cre to follow it anymore. If they decide to cut the string and give us the carrot, I'm happy, but now I'm just indifferent when I see it.

Dude this is android. Even if there are 1000s of great roms you are free to develop your rom and develop what you want. So don't quit and do what you want.
A better idea would be to create something you like and your style. That way you don't have 200 people telling you 200 different styles.
create something you like and I'm sure a lot of people (including me) will try it out.
good luck

Honeycomb on Streak 10, 7, & 5?!!?!?

Interesting...

doesn't mention the 5 w/ HC just the 10 & from the looks the 7...hopefully I'm wrong..but more than likely not,,
In any case, it might make a cooked HC ROM easier!
streak 7 looks like honeycomb... prob DJ_Steve's!lol!
the streak 5 looks like gingerbread to be honest.
look at the green icons and launcher/phone dock
looking forward to this.... hopefully soon.
IIRC, my Streak with stock Froyo 2.2.2 had a *white* notification bar, while in the article's photo the Streak 5 has a *black* notification bar:
{

So, hopefully it is Gingerbread.
P.S. Also, IIRC the Stage UI came with the Froyo update. So, the Streak 5 in the photo above cannot be running Donut 1.6.
It would be great to have gingerbread on the 5 with a better and no laggy launcher.
It says, seen here in real today on it's smaller siblings dell streak, and 7

Gingerbread vs Honeycomb
Honeycomb I might be interested in. I have a Gingerbread tablet, everything is great except I discovered Ginger has real wifi issues with n routers. Even combo b/g/n. I glad I discovered this before I tried putting a custom Gingerbread rom on my great little tablet. As it is it connects without any issues and Netfiix is a dream.
