2.3.2 lots of problems - Galaxy S I9000 General

I update my SGS I9000 two days ago to JV1 and so far there are only but problems. For example low ram, quick temp rising, slow loading time, lots of lags, and have removed the battery more than 20 times to make it work and a couple of non-booting problems...

edited : sorry wrong forum .

thanks man didnt know that (should have noticed though)

You do understand it is BETA right? alot of people do not understand this.... it means its in a testing stage and from posts 2.3.2 is at a very early stage.

No **** you have problems! Did you read the information accompanying the firmware leak? It clearly indicated that it was a early BETA firmware that will have issues.

Try webstar1 rom. Stable and smooth.

Have you tried to reinstall and factory reset? I installed JV1 and it's great. Fast and smooth.

this leaked version of gingerbread must be labeled as "test only" version.
you better wait for the final 2.3

obviously its a beta firmware, i reverted back to XWJS5. cannot stand the lags and hangs.
ps. u dont need to take out the battery, just press and hold the power button until it restart.

Beta .....

stop complaining dude. Its just a beta. i flashed it, experienced it, had some issues, flashed back to JS5 quietly. Thats it
And for ur satisfaction, yes there were heating issues. Thats the only reason y i switched back to JS5 otherwise i didnt had lag or any such other issue

The lag is because this ROM does not kill processes to free RAM as agreesively as the others. Go to the RAM tab on program monitor and do it yourself.
I've been running this ROM for 4 days and I don't see it so beta, I've seen cooked ROMs much worse than this. Most of the issues (swype, RAM management, Samsung apps not showing), have solutions that let's hope will be on the official version.
I don't mind if Samsung developers read this forum and use us as beta testers. This ROM could end being very good if they correct some stupid bugs and omissions.

A good point was made though, Samfirmware should clearly differentiate between firmware which is possibly beta, and firmware which is considered stable enough by Samsung to officially release it. Even better, they should link to forums discussing each ROM (and compile the known issues).
That would allow people to choose the latest known-stable rom easier.

with supercurio kernel all my apps working great, gps is even better (angry birds smooth and fast, web browser and flash as well)
with the same set of apps battery more or less the same as in doc 9.6.6
now testing jit in build.prop

this beta release works great on my phone....the biggest problem is the market app...i have flashed with pit 512, checked repartition. first wipe data factory reset wipe cache and removed lagfix

Great?
2.3.2 beta is seriously slow, I'm waiting for a proper final release.

Ha Ha here we go again, all Samsung firmware should be labeled as a "test only" version.
When we first got the phone and eclair ran like **** we excused it because it was a new device,
When the froyo leaks came and it ran like **** we excused it because it was beta.
When the official froyo came and it ran like **** we excused it because surely Samsung is just focusing on Gingerbread and that will be great.
Lets just call it like it is: Samsung does not know how to write a proper firmware for a mobile phone. Samsung's Gingerbread will suck hairy balls just like the roms before it

Except that in my opinion, Froyo doesn't run like **** (GPS still does seem to drop out more than I'd like though when driving)..
They do need to differentiate between released, and unreleased firmwares though.

Adobe Flash Player 10.1 Officially released for SGS

While reading trough my huge list of RSS feeds, i've found this news posted just few hours ago: linkhttp://www.sizzledcore.com/2010/09/11/flash-player-10-1-for-samsung-galaxy-s-released-download-now-from-android-market/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+SizzledCore+(Sizzled+Core)
The Author says that Today, Google has released Flash Player 10.1 For Samsung Galaxy S and it is available in the Android Market.
No Changelog provided.
I guess it's for JPC Users. Did you received the update? Is there any news or performance boost? It seems to be a version developed just for our device.
Let us know
I can confirm it. Updating it now, on JPC firmware. Will check for performance boost, it was pretty terrible for watching video before.
Edit: Still terrible in DolphinHD web browser. Not much use in the stock browser since JPC firmware removed the user agent setting.
Tested in some, err, adult site. Youtube seems like a pointless test since the Youtube app is better to use.
Third sign that froyo is coming (I confirm available on jpc)
Screenshots posted on that post. And it's only available for JPC for now.
Not sure we need signs that Froyo is coming, Samsung already said it was..
Also keep in mind though, it doesn't mean JPC is final, and it's still recommended people use kies (especially since some people appear to have been getting corrupt IMEI's after downgrading)

Well some people say that Samsung wasn't going to release froyo in time but maybe during october and those signs seems to show that they where/are wrong
videos run fine in flash except ones when it says "unoptimized for mobile" then performance is bad (1 frame every 2 sec or so)
i have 10.1 beta i grabbed somewhere in the forums, i suppose final is similar

Why not use my patched stock browser with useragent setting..
It was available in google market for JP3 aaages ago aswell. So nothing new here.
That being said, there are other signs pointing towards froyo soon hehe
Odd way how things go...
They officialy release flash while 2.2 isn't even out yet...
Samsung said it would be released in september but i wouldn't be suprised if it took them 2 more months before they release it.
2.2 is out for many other devices
Galaxy S is not the only Android phone you know? LOL

maybe this is why we still dont have froyo...

First of all, I was going to hang on to my nexus until a hi Res display came along but my wife got a vibrant and I got one free, the point is I've only had it a few weeks and I wasn't following it too closely so I don't even know the original due date for froyo. But this is my 4th android so delays certainly don't surprise me. Anywa, as i understand it the SGS has the same specs as the galaxy tab, and apparently adobe flash is a "disaster" on the tab. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/artic...e-tab-is-an-embarrassing-disaster-2010-11.DTL
So maybe adobe flash on the vibrant has needed special attention. At this rate however I would expect all able galaxy s owners to just buy the nexus s and simply remove themselves from samsung's incapable firmware update team's psychological abuse
I haven't heard complaints about the unofficial versions but maybe they are having trouble stabilizing flash enough for a stable official version such that we have flash working but other bugs exist, maybe getting those bugs ironed negatively affects flash? Or maybe I'm just trying make myself feel better through poor rationalization...
To Be Honest I've Been Running Froyo For A Little While Now And Flash Works Great For Me...
Granted I'm Not on It 24/7 And I'd Rather Use Mobile Sites Most Of The Time.
But When I Do Use Flash It Works Fine

Same here only I prefer the full sites and flash works great I've been watching movies streamed from the web and after two hours of non stop use still no problem
Still flashing
I had no problems with flash but I did set it to On-Demand because it lags up the scrolling. xvideo flash videos played with no problem.
But other countries have froyo already, we don't have froyo mostly because we have a modified GalaxyS, think about it like this, Nexus One would always get updates first because they were plain vanilla not modified (touchwiz or SenseUI). I hope I make sense.

Yeah I'm definitely reaching, I just start getting antsy when these firmware updates get delayed and we don't hear much from the responsible party/s. I feel like almost every firmware update I've ever received has been delayed, but ive always had HTC phones until now, is Motorola always behind as well?
Also, is froyo actually that late (I mean, I know its devastatingly late seeing as gingerbread will be out before we get it but as far as what vibrant owners were promised....)? What was the original due date?
If flash is always turned it will really have issues, but if your turned it on when you need it, it will work fine like watching videos, you just have to wait for about 10 seconds of loading then it will work fine.
i feel the same as OP =[
Another theory to why Froyo isn't officially out...
... is that they responsible party(s) decided to leak a froyo version first. Than let the developers here at XDA hammer out details, then recover it and put the fixes into their own version to make it better. Maybe that is why leaks comes out to us. So the manufacturers can get free alpha testers and fixes.
I honestly just uninstalled flash. It bogged down my phone too much. As soon as I got rid of it, my browser was back to being speedy.

Why not just set flash to "on demand" in your browser? It won't load until you click on the flash content. Most browsers support that.
My phone's better with flash if I'm using the skyfire browser. It much faster than the stock.
You are aware that the Nexus S is also a Samsung phone right?
Yes Flash 10.1 does make the browser laggy and presumably consumes more battery due to being a system hog. I am using Obsidian V2 Froyo ROM. There could be work arounds, but it definitely needs optimization for mobile devices.
Now how does this only affect Galaxy S phones and not any other phone running froyo?
Honestly, I'm gonna be pissed if it turns out they held back 2.2 for ****ing *FLASH*.

Not in the slightest, at the most they watch over to listen for bugs. We got JI2 when they had already moved on to JI4/JI5 and then to JI6. Samsung doesn't work off of stuff here, the developers work off of what Samsung gives us.

Everyone seems to report okay with it...but with drod2169 doing so much with 2.2.1 already I'm gonna stick with that. Also I am testing his new beta and ROM bootstraps automatically on every boot and more coolness to come so I will stick with rubiX focused for now
Is non-oem battery behavior any different???
With the FROYO update, the Droid X no longer recognized aftermarket batteries for whatever reason. Could someone who has flashed this update check and see if aftermarket batteries are recognized with it, or do we still get the '?' in the battery notification area?
Thanks
Not sure if I could live without LCD density at this point. I am gonna wait and watch developments.
so what all changes are in this? and what makes it worth jumping the ball?
If you want a changelog you will have to contact motorola. Otherwise it is supposedly just a faster build and random reboot issues fixed.
ok. well im guessing rubix would work as its same build set up? im tempted to put the leak in as it fixes some of the problems im having but not sure about not having an $BF full to revert back to, just incase i somehow f up on something. i can't afford to brick my only phone lol.
Will this work if I have Fission 2.1 installed? Or would it just delete my custom tom and bring me to a stock 2.2.1?

Okay I would say that this is probably the official OTA update that everyone is awaiting... The kernel is updated which is going to be the greatest advantage with this release...
Media Fix
Im pretty sure that the "sorry this player does not support..." has been fixed in this update... I use my DX as my primary mp3 player atleast 8 times a day and so that old bug would force me to restart 1 or 2 times daily... been running the new release for over 24 hours and I've yet to get the error (using it heavily and testing the music often aswell...)
Updated System Apps
The only thing ive noticed with these so far is a new Data usage widget built in to blur (now that we dont need unlimited data plans...)
Also the dialer now displays the most recent dialed or missed call just above the number keys...
Battery manager Fix
So the battery manager force close seems to have been fixed... I think this was an issue with the app and not the kernel... the reason i say this is because ive been checking to see that the battery stats non stop (maybe 100 times now) in different scenarios (fresh boot, fresh unplug, etc...) and i have only gotten one force close... I was running the 2.2 NexThemed Systems apk at this point... I imediately reinstalled the 2.2.1 setting apk and without needing to restart my phone the battery stats were fixed.
This issue then would not need u to flash the new release to fix for now... you can probably temporarily fix it on the old 2.2 kernel just by running the 2.2.1 app... (maybe people running the 2.2.1 fission can confirm this...
These are the big things i have noticed so far... I can not confirm the HDMI kernel fix though because i have not yet tested it and even when I was running the old kernel I seldom used the feature and When i did it never gave me any issues...
Hope this helps and I'd be very interested to hear about anything else people have noticed!
Does that update zip also do any kernal or radio updates?

BTW I am new to DX and not new to android. Can someone also point me in the right direction to educate myself more w/SBF. Well here's my two cents...gps lock is not fixed...root is currently impossible to retain with the stock kernel. You need some kind of modified kernel to keep root. Keyboard lag is still present unless your rooted and install a fix.
These above listed items do have remedies, however they require a custom rom or multiple patches to fix.
That being said...if you always run stock there are no additional negatives. Gingerbread is much faster, smoother and cleaner imo. Take it from there.

I think both of these statements are wrong based on my experience.
I have root and have no modified kernel. I think you can keep root without a fix, what you can't keep is a custom recovery program (like CWM).
I have had no keyboard lag so far. If it is there, it is definitely MUCH better than the previous version.

I have backup with Mybackup and Titanium, so I am more than happy with my backup options. ROOT itself is very important to me (and a lot of other people), so given the option I would rather have root and no custom recovery program, as opposed to a custom recovery program and no root.
A very important distinction to make.

No, just unnerving that they'd have such a forceful recovery program. Samsung has been sneaking little locks in things lately. Odin can break them but it's frustrating that they've gone down this road.

there really is no point in staying on froyo ec05 now. the only thing i could think of that would keep me on it would be SRF1.2 but since you didnt mention she had that i would say just update it for her. Things are quicker, snappier. The OS is built to be more stable and just all around better for the phone than the froyo version was.

Keyboard works so damn well!! Seriously its never worked this well for me. I'm running the deodexed build with nubernel so I dunno if there are any key lag hack built in or not.
Cd's or tapes?
My main beef with my phone has been fixed with this update. Music playback was annoying. Didn't matter if it was stock player or PowerAmp, I would get a weird hiccup at about 3 seconds into every song. On top of that, I could hear some electrical crackling when doing certain things while listening to music, especially while using wired tether. Gingerbread has eliminated it and music playback has been flawless for me all day so far. Not even a little click when the screen goes on/off anymore.
No doubt this phone still needs to be rooted with some patches just to make it useable. I'm disappointed samsprint took this long and still left so many of the original issues that shipped with the phone on eclair.
Basically it has the exact same widgets and touchwiz as always but with the underlying os updated to gingerbread.
I was hoping we would get the sgs 2 version of tw with the new widgets, and see the keyboard, and gps working out of the box.
Also the browser is pissing me off. It removed the zoom buttons and double tap isn't zooming in anymore...?
Its not all bad. With the gps fix (flashed in cwm) I'm getting better gps locks than ever before on this phone. Also the system as a whole is a bit faster. Unfortunately you will still make tradeoffs by updating.
Edits:
Tap to zoom works on non-mobile websites in the browser. Using my /data hack I was able to change default text size also.
Notification LED does in fact appear to be fixed...but there is a very long time between blinks (something like 20 seconds), would be much happier with a 2 sec blink. It is so slow, I thought it was not working.

ICS....not yet worth using :(

Hi all,
I know everyone is working really hard on the ICS source for the S2 but from what I've experienced so far its not worth moving on from 2.3.6. I know this is all testing/dev work and things aren't going to run to smoothly but I dont seem to be able to get a stable ROM that works for all the below, at least one of them doesnt work or crashes all the time (I seem to find I'm CWM backup'ing/restoring and titanium apps all the time and restoring ROMS instead of using the phone lol):
- USB utilities - crashes when trying to use it
- GPS doesnt work to well - even with the agps patch applied
- MMS/3G signal doesnt work
- Nova launcher on most crash
- Messaging stops working from the dock - so you have to clear the data to re apply launcher settings
- some other stuff I cant think of right now
If I can put a tick in the box for all of the above I would be a happy man til then I'm sticking to 2.3.6 ROM's (Not moaning, just thought I would put it out there and see what everyone elses thoughts are) :-D

You only get people coming down your thread just cause you opened a new thread on a topic that is already kinda getting boring with all the crap everyday you read on here and people opening so many threads when you could just post in the ones that are already created..
thats what you get when you use a beta version. post the same in existing threads, and do read before posting another thread.
I was actually not going for.ics myself due to what I was reading... but couldn't resist anymore and have been on Darkys (Ficeto) LPB for 2 days now... I'm actually quite happy and surprised by the performance and ESP battery life... probably not.going to switch back to the bread...!

I agree. I have been trying about 5 versions of custom roms with ICS which all users would say are very good but I was very disappointed in performance, and sometimes it would freeze.
ICS.....not yet released!
Be patient now.
U guys need to do a full wipe even if the ROM says no wipe. Otherwise you will definitely get issues. I was having some before I did a full wipe. After the Wipe did a fresh install of a Custom ROM and now its awesome. Definitely can't go back to GB now

Hi all,
I know everyone is working really hard on the ICS source for the S2 but from what I've experienced so far its not worth moving on from 2.3.6.

No offense.
But it's still in development. "not done"
In due time it will be sorted.
But threads like these will not speed up development.
So please have some respect for those who put in effort.
If only this forum allows cursing...

maybe something wrong with you.
I'm using latest ICS leak and everything works and hasn't crashed/FC. Nova launcher works perfect too.

A huge squadron of super-developers are rushing your way, sir. Their mission is to make ICS work for you... TODAY. Your words are praised, and wishes are their commands, to fulfill your every need. Please, stay put, and wait for them with cookies and milk.
I agree, don't think I will use it till either samsung release it, or sammobile release a proper rom leak that samsung will later release.
Just beta versions at the moment, rather disappointing.
CM9 is supposed to be nice, but I hear too many things not working, & will they never add fm radio support?
So... For now, I'm holding out on 2.3.4

LPB (Stock rooted) has behaved extremely stable so far, in fact the modem seems to more stable in comparison to GB.
Which rom you tried and did you wipe before flashing? LPB is not perfect (after all it´s a leaked beta) but it is more than usable as daily driver

I shouldnt do this cause my mates friends uncle will kill me but.
Ive got hold of a fully working release of ics that samsung will roll out the only reason they arnt is cause they are waiting to time it for the sgs 3 release, they want to encourage people to upgrade to that and then once thats sold well will offer this upgrade for the sgs2.
There have however been reports of phones being bricked due to a time stamp in the kernel stopping the kernel from running before a given date.
So I repeat this ROM will brick your phone
flash in odin as normal
