SMS/MMS on the Xoom with Verizon? - Xoom General

Is the Xoom like the Galaxy Tab where you can send/receive SMS & MMS using the data cell # if you activate it with Verizon?
I can do it on Sprint with my GT and had unlimited SMS but not sure about Verizon.
TIA!

[Q] Do Texts Run on Data Network?

I had my data turned off for a while to save battery so unsure if I received any new texts. I am fairly certain that MMS runs on data, not 100% on SMS.
MMS yes, SMS no.
Mms uses data, but the carrier's texting plan will provision the appropriate settings on their end so that you are not charged for them. This applies if the texting feature on your carrier includes mms.

Getting Tmobile's IM/Gmail to work, NO data

I have prepaid $15/month unlimited texts with tmobile. This also allows for unlimited picture, video messages, and more important unlimited IM(msn) and Email. As they count as Texts instead of data.
On my previous phone this works fine (moto zn5) There's an app for email/IM and if you go through that app everything counts as a text. This is very important to me because some close friends live in south america and can only enter online for 5-15mins of a day to chat via msn.
However on the TP2 I can't get it to work via texts, it always wants to try through data. Which I have no data plan at all.
It's worth noting that I have a CDMA USCC Version of the TP2. Sharkies 5.1 rom, which gives you tmobile provision. Is there a special app available that allows the messages to be sent via text as it can be on the other phones?
Thanks for any help you can give.

[Q] straight talk tmobile mms not functioning

I've used the search function and tried many different suggested APN settings to no avail.
I'm on straighttalk/tmobile, running stock non-rooted 4.3 rom. Since the 4.2 OTA update -a month/6weeks ago?- I have not been able to send photos through text messaging. I receive them no problems, just cant send.
Now when I attempt to send a photo with the messaging app I get the following message: "can't send message right now. Too many unsent muti-media messages."
I'd like to find a work around, since switching to Tmobile directly will cost $10 a month more at the minimum.
Thanks guys!
My wife's gs3 is having MMS and data issues as well, st tmobile sim

I use group text with straight talk all the time. However, its MMS, there is no such thing as group SMS. I would check your MMS settings, they changed the APN recently.

I have the latest settings and the mms wont dl... mind if you share your settings?
Im straight talk ATT, are you ATT or TMobile?
I have the same issue on my LG G2. I have Straight Talk AT&T. I am able to send group text messages and pictures, I can text myself pics, I can send pics and receive in individual messages, but I can't receive group text messages. Funny thing is, I am able to receive group MMS pictures. (WTF?) I have tried this on stock messaging along with Textra and it's still not a go. I also spoke to Straight Talk, but their customer service is like to cadavers about the space-continuum.
I am on one of the latest Cyanogenmod 12.1 nightlies for my device. I tried resetting APN settings, wiping davlik cache, using the latest APN settings from Straight Talk, same issue. The funny thing is I have noticed is that after resetting my APN settings and adding a new APN, after a restart, it defaults back to the TFDATA APN for Straight Talk.
I am going to try my SIM in another phone to see if it works, but I may just have to do a fresh wipe. I will need to post this in the LG G2 support forums as well.

Sounds like the normal Straight Talk support convo

Question about a particular scenario - talk, data, and MMS at same time?

The group that I work with spends a lot of time on conference calls together, and lots of time sending group text messages to each other. We often need to be researching something on our phone at the same time.
We have one guy on Verizon and he won't get any texts until he hangs up his iPhone.
We have another guy on Sprint that will get individual texts during a phone call, but not group texts or picture texts on his iPhone.
I'm on AT&T with an HTC M8 and I'm able to do all three at the same time. So is another AT&T iPhone and a Galaxy S6 in the group.
I think this is a network issue, but I'm not sure.
Can anyone on AT&T confirm that this phone is able to send/receive group text messages while simultaneously using voice and data?
Thanks!

Use WebEx.
I have no idea what WebEx is, nor do I want some cobbled solution. I want a phone that does what I need it to do.
I don't have the phone, but I think I saw somewhere that you can try the phone for free for 30 days and if you don't like it you can return it to ZTE.
Does anyone having problem with sending MMS? I can use data for everything else but can't send/receive MMS. Texts and calls function as normal though. I'm on GSM Ecomobile which is basically T-Mobile. Thanks.

The APN you're using most likely does not have Ecomobile's MMS server address. Get Ecomobile's APN info and create a new APN with that info.

Voice and data at the same time is very different from voice and MMS at the same time. Verizon can do voice/data, but not voice/MMS. Thanks for confirming.

I figured it out. One of my APN protocol was IPv4 instead of IPv6
