I don't know about you guys but my messaging has been completely broken on the custom Eb13 roms. You know the usual. Not sending and whatnot.
Now hear me out...
I have flashed simply aosp and acs. Haven't tried bonsai Eb13 but i don't think i will. Now before i get flamed and Im told i didn't flash the right way i did. Flashed stock Eb13 through odin, then cwm 3.0.0.6, then after ext4 convert flash the Rom. Simple enough. Last night i decided to flash stock Eb13 deodexed. I converted to ext4 and Im using geno kernel 0.3a. Not only are my benchmark scores higher than any of the custom roms but.my sms has been working flawlessly. My gps for the.first time ever gets a lock within 5 seconds. Guaranteed. If you have problems with sms i suggest you do this. Btw with as much tweaking as acs has.done (or claim to have done) to stock why am i getting better benchmark results???
For those of you that are curious here are my benches...

Sms works fine with supernova. I haven't messed with gps enough to know how accurate it is. But it does get a fairly quick lock.
I bet its the Carrier IQ stuff giving you some awesome scores to keep you on that rom so they can track you!
The only reason your texts would not be sending is update your prl. And those benchmarks are way higher than what I was getting on the same rom and kernel. But it is not higher than my 2443 quadrant frozen rom and kernel so check yourself. You had to have something weird happen like maybe your restored data or ti backup will screw up a good flash.

Also your prolly getting those benchmarks because the carrier iq stuff is still gone. I think just because you flash a different rom it doesn't come unless you odin. I might be wrong but that is the logical explanation in your event.
FROZEN EPIC
A user in another SMS related thread said that he has found his SMS acts up when he does a Level 2 memory clear under task manager, and SMS won't return to normal after a full reboot.
Do you do this? I know I do, especially if I'm about to run some benchmarks, and my SMS goes to crap shortly thereafter.
No no. I dont do back ups lol if i wanna back something up ill drag it off the sd card into my laptop. Being a pc technician for so many years has taught me that installing os should and always be done from scratch. That way you get a full fresh install without any "baggage" left behind. I always odin, convert, then flash. I never flash any custom rum over anothet. So... my conclusion is that eb13 made some changes to antennae sensitivity. Today it actually was flaky for a bit... but when on the custom roms it was pure ****e. And yes im not an idiot the first thing i do when i flash a rom is profile and prl update. Flashing these roms must **** something over in the stock modem. I also flashed my girlfriends epic to acs and simply aosp with the same results!!! Only on stock eb13 does the sms work well. Like i said it as *****y today for about 5 minutes... but on these roms it was a constant issue. I dont have an issue with it as the phone is actually performing better than on those roms. I would get fc's here and there but on stock deodexed+geno+ext4 the only app thats giving me crap is the xda app!!for the past few hours ive been getting force closes when trying to reply lol whatevs its working for now...

^ This is the expected benchmark set on SRF. Anyone getting higher scores on stock than SRF did something strange, or is using Twilight Zone 1.0.1 without the On Demand governor.

I've been one of those people who listened to others saying "stock sucks" so i always flashed a rom etc.
Today after getting my refurb, and TimeWarner Cable calling us saying our wifi might not work for a hour or two...
I just checked out the stock i got.. 2.2
It was pretty damn good.
I rooted it later, but without the root and everything
Mine was fast! No lag what-so-ever!
Now i don't get why others say their stock is SO LAGGY. I've had more lags on bionix than on stock.
0 fcs
0 lags
0 freezes
NOTHING.
Is this because my phone CAME with 2.2? or... idk.
sigh....
come back after you have it loaded up, lots of cache and you are still on a crap file system... then compare to an optimized, zip-aligned custom rom on EXT4.
Thought you knew better man.
That said, 2.2 is much better than stock 2.1.
no i always thought stock would be laggy because everyone hated it.
I know i can make it faster with EXT4, but i'm talking about stock.
just stock.
I have 98 user apps on it.
It's running pretty well for me, thats all i'm saying. 2.1 was hell.
Lol, just lol.
i haven't tried stock 2.2 but there's 2 applications that i noticed that runs faster on stock 2.1 than any other custom roms on 2.2. That's the stock broswer and gallery.

Actaully after updating from 2.1 just a week ago I have the same experience as OP. The Stock BUILD IS FAAASSSTTTT. Battery lasts two days of minimal use. More than a day for havy use. I dont know why people are hating on the stock builds. Sigh... I have yet to root and put a custom rom in mine. But with HD2 all i had was 2.3 RAM BUILD(out of this seriosly. basically some system apps and resources are stored in the ram the the UI and general apps run super fast, faster than nand.) Compared to that vibrant with 2.2 is pretty good. Not as fast but very smooth....

How did you get stock 2.2 with eugenes kernel? Did you update from Kies and then flash the kernel? Or did eugene make ROM like this?
Eugene's kernel isn't exactly stock... To say a custom rom can't run better than stock is an insult. Nobody is claiming stock 2.2 isn't good. Our phones have great hardware.

Samsung 2.2 runs fine with a different launcher. Depending on usage touchwiz performs like crap, at least in my experience. The main reason I chose to switch to custom roms is because I'd already stopped using all the samsung software I could. I can honestly say I've had a much better experience on Bionix 1.2.1 coming from samsung 2.2

EB13 works pretty good. I do suggest, a minimum, that you flash the EC05 modem. My 3g works better, and 4g is way better... lower latency, faster wake up, and quicker connect.
Only reason I updated is for the developer support on ec05.
If you were just stock I wouldn't think there would be much of a reason unless you use your phone for a gps navigation system..
But because I run Syndicate Frozen I went for the 1.1 upgrade. Haven't regretted it. Faster, smoother, and same battery life as 1.02.

The kernel for eb13 also has bad code for the camera video and sports mode, and Ec05 doesn't have it, but then you could flash the twilight zone kernel to fix that.

It's because cell phone hackery has been around long enough to finally attract the 'old dog' demographic. Those people who never upgrade the OS their computer comes with, or still use Office 2000.
The idea that it works just fine by their standards tyvm, so why waste time getting something new if it isn't a huge change.
Mind you, that same old dog mentality means when a huge change comes along, they're just as crotchety and whine about why people are "fixing something that isn't broken".
Old coots. They eventually show up everywhere, hate change, and never seem to check into a nursing home fast enough.
I would upgrade. The gingerbread theme works just fine with the new srf 1.1.0 rom. plus until we have gingerbread all rom updates here will be ec05. Most of the upgrades are in the modem and camera anyways. I dont think they changed much if anything in the framework. I cooked up my own theme combining the gb and honeycomb theme with a couple new status bar icons but niether of those themes were updated for srf 1.1.0. Ive been running it since they released the rom with no problems.
I thought that I would give MIUI a go since I have read great things about it. I have been using CM for a very long time now, so I wasn't expecting to be blown away.
Overall I am pretty impressed with a few caveats. The interface is very nice and I especially like how the notifications drop out of the bar up top, like when you get a text message. I don't need to use handcent anymore to say the least. The built in theme manager is cool and overall the think the menus are easier to use then most roms.
Anyways, the main issue is speed and battery. I read great things about speed but I just don't see it. The homescreen lags, apps are slow to open, and things always seem to lock up on me. I didn't restore from titanium backup, I started fresh. I'm running Savaged Zen 2.2 as my kernel, but the speed seems sluggish no matter the kernel.
The battery life isn't as great as it was on CM7 either. I can barely.make it through a day on MIUI.
Any tips for improving performance before I leap back to CM?
I would stay with Miui for a couple of days and I guarantee you that the battery life will get better, also I would try using tiamat, or godmode kernel they are great.

Download kernel.
Put into root directory of sd card.
Boot into recovery
Nand backup (because you never know)
Wipe cache and dalvik cache
Flash kernel
Reboot
Evo HW 003
MIUI 1.5.27 with Tiamat 4.0.3 sbc
Cut Corners theme
Miui is awesome but the lag just kills me. I've tried every kernel out there and nothing changed lol.

Lovin it except battery life is killing me, unplugged it just 15 min ago and it dropped 30 percent. Ill probably run this for a week or two then nand back over to synergy or kingdom. Overall though I love the menus of this rom and all the different settings.
Battery dropped another 8 percent in the time it took me to type this.

Try using setcpu with the tiamat 4.0.5 kernel. Maybe your cpu is constantly pegged at its highest frequency so its killing the battery. With set CPU installed I had my Max at 1113 and min at 384 running smartass; I easily got 24 hours with moderate usage. Also download spareparts from the market and make sure your end button has the phone set to sleep.
Here's the free setcpu for xda users.

I've used many kernals (mostly CM and MIUI) as they tend to have the least amount of clutter.
I've been very happy with MIUI (been on it for over 5 months) when I used to flash a new rom almost daily.
I've found MIUI (more than any other rom) has "finiky" issues with installs.
If you've not done it, I'd recommend doing a complete wipe using Caulkin Format All and Format Temp, fresh install of miui (reboot 3 times after you install it, helps get rid of some fo the chinese crap), flash a kernal of your choice (i've been rocking tiamit 4.0.5 sbc) and then configure your phone and set it all up.
I love the fact that you can have folders on your home screen (that show the icons of the content) however, it doesnt hide your status bar (I think it's stupid to have the clock show twice).
I use launcher pro and folder organizer ( available on market) and love it.
I have a very minimalistic layout with everything grouped neatly.
if you've not used MIUI, try it! Stiff is amazing!

Everything seems to work just fine for me with the latest update. I haven't tried Navigation, but my GPS locks almost instantly, so I suppose it would work just fine. It seems like GPS is the biggest problem.
I still have the bug where the automatic brightness doesn't work correctly. I have just set the brightness somewhere and forgot about it. It seems to work correctly for others though. Guess it might have something to do with the kernel though.

Another easy way is to use Kernel Manager from the Market. He has all the most popular kernels listed there. It is a breeze.
try tiamat kernel 3.3.7 which seems to work the best for most people or try the latest one which is 4.0.5. I'm using the latest one with vipermod which is a tool to lower voltages and it's great.
Every single GB sense Rom i try has a effed up camera issue. Even stock rom. I went to a family reunion and took the most effed up pictures to where i just had
to put the damn phone away. All the pictures came out dark and sh$t. I was familiar with the problem from other users but damn this is bad. I take allot of pictures so having a proper working camera is a must. So far my only solution to this problem is aosp Rom. I'm currently using deck Rom and the camera works perfect. But i want my main rom to be mikg Rom dammit. What the hell happened?
Is it a kernel issue? tried different cams with no luck. Man this sucks balls.
Try the sleek n sexy rom.

sorry to here that, it should work the rom is basically a stock rom the some of the bloat taken. almost sounds like something beside the cam or rom. then again i may be wrong about that, still kinda new at this..
Try Alliance or Synergy, I never had a problem with those.
Could also be your HW version.
My wife has the same issue with her EVO. She has the 004 model, however, I have the 003 model and I dont have those issues.
It's something with those 2.3 tons and/or updates.I flashes numerous 2.3 roms onto her EVO and every pic still cam out dark. But when I flashes a 2.2,ROM, it worked.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
I had the problem on all the 2.1/3.0 ROMS, except MikG 1.5 and 2.2
And I don't take a lot of pics, so on 2.2, it COULD be happening intermittently, which is something I've seen people complain about in other threads.
I'm really sorry for sounding like a total d!$% but if you're worried about talking a lot of pictures, you should just bring an actual camera. Camera phones (when they work) are great for those unexpected moments, but you went to a reunion. You knew you were going. You knew family members from all over the place were going to be there. Be pissed all you want about your phone's camera not working, but I'd personally be more pissed about not bringing a legitimate camera to a family reunion.
Wouldn't it be easier to simply flash a new rom rather then ***** about it??
I have the same problem. I have flashed a ton of gingerbread roms including the stock ginger bread Rom. I very frustrating because my phone used to take pretty good photos in low light. Now its horrible. As bad as it is, its still takes much better pics than my EVO 3D did. I just flat out couldn't see anything with that phone

I want to dump the underworld kernel since my battery just gets sucked to death on this thing. I have tried flashing multiple mason kernels and even old savaged rom and tiamet kernels. none of them work. What am I doing wrong. Is there a specific replacement kernel I am missing for this?
DK8 is a Sense rom. All the kernels you mentioned are for AOSP roms. Thats what is causing your problem. If you want to try a different one, search for Lionfish, Chop Suey or Freedom. These are Sense kernels may work.

Thanks. I wasn't really sure. I see Mason used on so many kernels i pretty much assumed I could use it. I just hope those you mentioned can match mason and the battery life it gives me

TBH you will not be able to match the battery life from running an AOSP rom on a Sense rom. The closest would be IMO Underworld with some underclocking and undervolting. Setting the brightness to low also helps, but its gonna be a stretch to get the same battery life.
I'm on this Rom right now. My battery life is at least 12 hours . I'm using the Underworld v.8 kernel by Ca1ne. Get a CPU tuner, preferably setCPU from the market or here on xda, and change your governor to Smartass v2 and your min. up to 384 and your max down to around 768 (mine is set to a little above that at 860). Then flash Vipermod and follow the directions for that. Every phone is different, but mine is around 75Mhz undervolted. There is always a way to get better battery life from your phone, from cpu tweaks to apps that turn off 3g or switch from 3g to 2g or 1x.
Just do some Google searches and you can usually find what you're looking for. There's always that handy dandy search bar on xda too.

Make sure that you barely clearing caches before you try flashing new roms. I don't know of you are, but you didn't mention if you did or if you don't clear them before flashing.
Edit: Make sure that you *always* clear caches.
I didn't notice my mistake until now. Auto correct didn't get it right this time.

HTC Evo 4g
I switched from the no-havs Underworld to the havs sbc kernel since I was used to undervolting on AOSP roms. I felt like that made a difference in and of itself. One thing to note I believe if you read the Underworld thread, the kernel is set to Smartass V2 by default, however I think it is also overclocked so definitely follow the advice of underclocking and undervolting... When I first flashed the kernel my phone was so hot I didn't want to touch it, but now It's just fine. For values I am using the same CPU min/max posted above, but I undervolted by 50mhz instead of 75(my EVO won't boot if I go do any more than 50).
And finally I ran the V6 SuperCharger script baked into the ROM. Super easy install, just read the screen and have the Supercharger thread open on a PC.
End result? This rom is so fast it almost freaked me out, or at least made me curious as to how I put up with ICS/JB ROMs for so long. Everything is lag free and as long as I have this phone, my phone will be rocking whatever DigitalKarma is cooking up! Good luck!
