I recently switched from Windows to LinuxMint and wiped my drive intentionally but forgetting to get FRM off it, it's on my phone so it's not that big of a deal but I was wondering if I could get it from my phone and onto my comp without taking it off my phone. If not, no big deal have absolutely no problem donating again and will do it regardless. I'd just like to have to on my comp just incase I ever needed it ya know?
Should be able to just put the apk on your sdcard and then usb mass storage mode to your linux mint computer.

Edit: Google fixed this in the Update that was released, you now have to have the device unlocked in order to mount the storage via a PC., just make sure you also have USB debugging disabled so they can't use ADB to access files either.
Below is my Original message....
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
So i encrypted my Xoom using it's built in encryption method in settings and thinking now I don't have to worry as much if I loose it. It also has the password prompt to unlock the screen.
I was very dismayed today when I hooked up USB on it for the first time (a week after I bought it, try that Ipad) and found that virtually all the storage is accessable on the computer wihtout even Unlocking the Xoom! (pictures, audio, lots of app storage, etc)
At least on my old Droid I had to unlock it and turn on the USB storage for it to mount with the Xoom I don't even have to unlock it.
Google needs to fix this asap. If the device is locked and encrypted then it should not just mount all it's storage via USB unless it's unlocked.
Can't believe I haven't seen anyone else talk about this.
Dan
While mine is encrypted as well, I never hooked it up to USB after rooting it which I did prior to encrypting. I guess I'll try that later today.
So thats how moto is going to know if your device is rooted whether its encripted or not, in order to do the 4g uprgrade... hook that ***** up to comp and be bam.
Pretty much defeats the whole purpose of encrypting... you're now just wasting your time putting in passwords.
I hope they fix the whole way the Xoom hooks to a PC. Why they couldn't leave it like the phones are is beyond me. The phones used MSC instead of MTP like the xoom, which is way better supported across the various platforms.
haha thats hilariously horrible. jesus, mght as well not bother encrypting and find some USB input lock on the damn thing.
seriously, a month from now, if there is no updates of any kind on this tablet, im going to beat the hell out of my girlfriend.

My Epic 4g wont let me use the usb so i can mount it to my labtop. I am trying to add the new cm9 but i cannot transfer the files to my sd card. Anyway around this? I have used 2 different usb cables and used all the different ports as well. Still nothing, also notice i cannot Odin either because of this as well...
I have had the same problem. Scoured the internet and found no solution. Just a lot of people with the same problem. A lot, a lot.
Anyways, what I've been doing is either using airdroid to wirelessly send files to my phone or putting the micro-usb card into a usb stick adapter to transfer stuff.
Don't know if that helps but it was easier for me than odining back, and uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers to see if it magically decided to work again.
Froyo or gingerbread? This is going to sound stupid, but if you are on gingerbread or cm7/cm9, did you drop down the notification bar and select "usb storage"?
This is new coming from froyo.

make sure that USB debugging is off.
Try reinstalling the drivers. Also until you can get that working you can pop your micro sd into the adaptor and pop it into your laptop and transfer the files onto it.
all of the above
check drivers
make sure usb its not set to debugging.
also make sure to dial ##8778# and make sure its on PDA not modem.
It asks me to search for the drivers and when it does nothing comes up. Also even when i hold the power off button where you can cut the phone off/boot into recover/usb data storage. the usb data storage isnt clickable. I tried the drop down notification but there isnt even i connect to usb tab even there, I have usb debugging checked off and still nothing. Im really trying to find a way to odin since i think i got a bad download...im on gingerbread though.
Wonder if sprints updates had anything to do with this?

My wife and I both have Motorola Droid X phones that were activated through Verizon. My phone died on vacation and will no longer power on. Her's WAS fine.
We switched to Sprint (I got a SGS3 and my wife got an iphone 5) and I wanted to backup the information from our old SD Cards to our computer (Windows XP) so that I can re-use one of the cards in my SGS3 and transfer the good stuff (mainly the pictures and videos) to our new phones. Unfortunately, I am now unable to power on either phone (both batteries have kind of puffed up and they do not seem to work any longer).
I tried putting the SD Cards into an adapter and putting them directly in my SD Card Reader, but I can only see the files and cannot copy them. When I try the windows cmd line, I get a message saying, "The syntax of the command is incorrect." and when I try through Windows Explorer, I get the following error message:
Error Copying File or Folder
Cannot copy *FILENAME_WITH_NO_EXTENSION*: The parameter is incorrect.
Anyone have any ideas? I would like to just make an entire backup of the SD cards, but would settle just for the pictures and videos.
Have you tried just putting the old cards in the new phones? The pictures should be recognized. You may need a recovery program or app if the files/card was damaged.

Thanks. I was actually able to get one of the old phones working again and was able to copy the information from both cards to my computer using that phone.

My galaxy S4 recently suffered from a pressure crack in the LCD. I was wondering if there is a way to access root files in my phone from my PC or MAC. I have a replacement phone coming in the mail tomorrow and would like to rescue my data.

If you have the proper drivers loaded, when you plug it into your PC/MAC, you should be able to drag off the files from the phone. Same thing happened to me, and I was able to rescue files from the internal SD.

I just used Samsung's program "Kies" and I was able to back everything up I needed.
Does anyone else have issues with their drivers installing on their computer? DO NOT WORRY I have done numerous search on here, and tried every "fix" from XDA threads before I even posted this. In fact I believe it's my second one since I haven't been able to get some help. As stated before, I'm not sure if it's because of my work computer (It shouldn't be, my three co workers who hack their phone, 2 same device, have had no issues only me) or what but every time I try to install, it gets about 2/3 of the way and then stops and says it cannot install it. Even when I hook up my phone, or use Kies, it doesn't recognize CDC Serial or Samsung_android. YES I have USB Debugging enabled, but for the friggen life of me cannot get those two to be recognized therefore can't use Odin. It's getting really annoying so anyone really good with computers have any advice here? Thanks!
I'm assuming u have tried different USB ports? I know my front one is screwed from using casual in the past on my note deuce
