Hey guys,
I have looked around here and mainly found peoples topics for the Galaxy S i9000T who are from a different country, need different firmware and have differently branded phones, hence this topic:
I have purchased a Telstra branded (AUSTRALIAN) Samsung Galaxy S.
BASEBAND VERS: I9000TDVJH3
KERNEL VERS: 2.6.29
BUILD #: ECLAIR.DVJH3
----------
From simple browsing I have determine 'TEL' or 'DV' just means TELSTRA (and T can also mean this). If looking at 'J' by itself it can be interpreted as OCTOBER 2010 (when i got the phone), but not sure what H3 is....or if it is read as JH3..
My plan is to jump onto a nice compatable version of Froyo 2.2, however I have NO IDEA which is the best and closest firmware to download and in case of any stuff-ups or compatability issues, if i need to claim my phone under warranty, I want to be able to flash back to stock firmware, which is this Telstra JH3 crap, and have no idea where I can find that.
My biggest gripe is nopt being able to have the FREEDOM to remove/uninstall/move certain LOCKED apps despite trying with various android apps and while i'm rooting/flashing, I thought I might as well get 2.2 since the "proposed" release date in Australia for it, and probably likely release by Telstra will be in December, or so I am told...screw that.
Can someone help me and direct me to the most appropriate version of firmware to download and, if available, the original stock firmware (if it has been replicated by anyone with the same phone as me?)
Thanks
RoOSTA
I've PM'd some Aussies to get attention to the post as i have nowhere else to turn to!
currently there are no safe Froyo 2.2 yet
even the original release in Europe got recalled, wait until mid November, then we might finally see some progress
for now just iron out whatever is bugging you with the current fixes, and live happy until Froyo comes out
is that I9000T a 900 band model or 850 band model ?

The Telstra I9000T is a 2100/850 Mhz model.
Yeah, OK...I'll wait til mid November, only a couple of weeks away...
Until then, what can I do to get the best/accurate/most reliable 2.1 (UNBRANDED) that will still work 100% on the 2100/850MHz bands? I want to be able to delete ALL the crap that is apparently "system locked" apps from the phone...

i have i9000t latin america versión
and i have made this flash "[HOWTO] Froyo FW I9000XXJPM: Upgrade via Odin, Root, Recovery 2e, Lagfix!"
with a unlocked csc from canada
first of all I made a backup with the rom manager, because i cannot find anywhere the galaxy s firmware of my t model
maybe you can do the same
so whats the optus ones? just i9000? funnily enough im on jg3 with optus.. where as the op is on jh3.. my phone was also delivered in mid oct 2010.
So maybe I'll just try rooting the phone to de-brand it (keeping on 2.1) then when a stable official froyo 2.2 comes out, hopefully MID NOV, just update to that?

Rooted the phone using auto method from the tutorial on these boards with ease, installed Titanium Backup which downloaded the latest or most compatable busybox (1.16 for me). I have managed to delete some "locked" apps, but a lot of Telstra's BIGPOND apps remain (downloads, movies, sport, etc) - they are much harder to find when browsing the list appLIST in TBackup - I jsut got the free version, but impressed with how much easier it has been to customise even still, as a branded phone.

@roosta...im a noob, plz can u tellme the step to step guide i soo wanna get rid of telstra apps and i wanna completely debrand the telstra galaxy s phone without installing any lag fixs like voodoo etc, i just want to instal the original eclairs or froyo from samsung for its galaxy s i9000, but im not sure how to go about because i have the 850mhz next g galaxy s from telstra. Can you help me , thanks in advance
Hi mate, as the reply I made above states, i used the galaxy S "root" tutorial,. i havent debranded hthe phone, but i have been granted rights or access to delete specific apps I dont want, so follow that. I won't FULLY debrand the phone only because I havent got the telstra stock firmware to download and REINSTATE at a later date (if i needed to for warranty purposes)
RoOSTA
@roosta, i wud really appreciate if u cud post the link, i cannot find the thread u mentioned in your reply. and secondly any idea when telstra wud be releasing 2.2 for sgs. cheers

Hi mate,
Is there any chance you can upload your stock rom, I stupidly flashed my i9000t without fully understanding the 850mhz network and now I am stuck with a custom rom and no way to access the nextG network.
If there is a way and I just missed something, please let me know.
Kindest regards,
All you need to do is root the phone which you did, and then get hold of Titanium Backup. Use that to uninstall the junk that Telstra pre-installed. But before you do anything use Titanium to make a full Backup just in case. From what I gather your phone is exactly the same as the American AT&T captivate so whatever roms/fixes they use you can use on your phone. If you notice a lot if not all phones from AT&T usa work fine on telstra as they both use 850mhz (NexG rebranding) while the rest of the world like Optus/voda/whoever uses 900mhz. 850mhz is actualy better as it penetrates walls and buildings better but problem is that only 3 Telcos that i know use it is AT&T, Vodafone NZ and Telstra so they can be expensive for data. But on a better note you can use your phone on any network as it also has 2100mhz(very congested) 3G too.
Always willing to help out a fellow aussie here you go mate

So 2.2 out for Optus, but STILL nothing yet for Tesltra for the JH3 firmware and 2100/850 bandwiths!?!
That's ridiculous...
and guys, for stock 2.1 eclair Telstra i9000T firmwares and CSC go here:

Hey Roost,
Just wanted to check in and see whether you had any luck mate? As far as the GTalk thing goes I had absolutely no idea about that, but sounds like your only choice here is to flash back to stock Telstra 2.1 and then redo your modifications and reflash to your custom ROM.
I agree with you completely in that the delay for Telstra updates is ridiculous, but this has always been the case. Even right back to WinMo 6.5 on the TP2 and TD2, they've always been three or four months behind the trend. To best of my knowledge there's still no news on Froyo yet, which is just ****ful.
I'll keep checking your post to see if you turn anything up. Hopefully you do and it's manageable. Good luck mate.
Justin
Hey all,
Just updating: As per another thread on this board - Telecom NZ have released Froyo 2.2 available via kies. Using registry, i spoofed Kies into thinking my phone was i9000T from NZ, so have since updated to 2.2 wiuth no issues;
For me, no lag fix needed, swype works perfectly, all gps/maps work fine with accuracy and 850 band fully functional. I'd also recommend doing this ahead of Tesltra AU since i've gone from about 15+ useless LOCKED system banded apps to TWO on Telecom NZ; one being internet and the other for 'account status', so very happy with the recent update...

I think TNZ have pulled their 2.2, at least that's the last update I read a few days ago.
I've got an I9000T as well, and am on Telstra. I've flashed Docs V4 JPU ROM and it's working great on the 850 band.
So it looks like the JPU CSC does support the NextG frequencies
Do you think you might be able to list some of the useless telstra branded apps you removed? im having trouble knowing whats what the way its itemised and named in Titanium Backup.
auldar could you link to the ROM you are using at please.
Froyo has finally been released through Kies for SaskTel I9000HKA(BWA)
PDA/Phone/CSC = JK4
thats good news. Im a Sasktel employee, and theres been a long wait for this!!
However, Ive been on Docs rom for a while with next to no issues and superior performance, so I have no plans to go over to this
I am on the Sasktel network yet upgraded via reghack to the bell JK4. Is there any difference between the two? With the registry patcher, is there any way to get the Sasktel froyo, now that I have updated to bells?

I was on doc's rom (original flavour, not the bell version) for about a month and a half, and now that I have played with SaskTel's official jk4, I am flashing back to doc's rom.
Doc's rom is faster, has better battery life, GPS lock in was almost instant, JK4 won't lock at all.
To anyone else wondering, I highly recommend using Doc's Rom over the official froyo. Doc's rom is what the official rom should be.
what version of docs rom do you use. can you point me to it.
Doc's Rom
I was using doc's rom also, much smoother and less general problems, I found, until "Damaged Internal SD Card..."
When mine finally comes back I will run Doc's rom until CM7 is released.
Doc's Specialized Bell/SaskTel Version
Doc's Magic Rom Kitchen
I was using I believe v8 of doc's rom. I would recommend it, but I can't find it and believe the rom kitchen is it's successor, which itself looks really awesome. Generate a Rom exactly to your liking, picking everything from launcher and kernel to themes and apps.
so are the bell phones and sasktel phones the same kinda thing. so if the kitchen rom needs to be installed specially for thebell phone do i have to o that for my sasktel phone.

Yea they are the same thing, just use the rom kitchen and use bwa for the csc, and jl2 for the modem

They are always the exact same thing, except in this case the csc is different (different bundled software), SaskTel actually buys most if not all of their phones from bell.

Sasktel buys all their devices from Bell.
Along with most services are also from Bell (example sasktel max)
SaskTel Repairs
Does anyone know the name of the place that SaskTel sends their phones for repair in Saskatoon?
Mine has been gone for a month already(Dead internal SD card), and I am being told that it will probably be another month at least before I see it back.
Here is the latest (at time of writing) XXJMF Modem / Baseband file (tested on my Euro Tab - flash with care). To be flashed via Odin / Heimdall.
XXJMF - DOWNLOAD (ROMraid Load Balancing) - MD5: cd4061a61e409c45a9e6ee6c8fcb0370

This version is in the JMG ROM that's been available for a few days so people who have updated to JMG already have the JMF baseband version and don't need to make any changes.
This works with your MoDaCo Beta ROM?
Which section do I put the file under in the Heimdal GUI (OSX)?
Does this have the same WCDMA capabilities as the Bell I9000 modem (I9000UGJK3) that has served AT&T Tab users well?
If so, is it better?
Edit: I did some research and it seems that the Bell I9000 modem is not the only one that will work for AT&T Tab users (giving 850MHz UMTS along with the rest).

I loaded this radio--T959TLJL3, along with Roto-JMI-v1--and confirmed that it does work on 850MHz on an AT&T Tab.
Now my question is, what differentiates I9000UGJK3 from I9000UGJK4, T959TLJL3, and XXJMF? How can I tell what the differences are between these radio/baseband/modem versions for EDGE/3G/UMTS, WiFi, BT, GPS?

The i9000 and T959 radios are for other samsung galaxy s phones. The JM* is for samsung tabs. Since they have the same hardware they can be used on AT&T or T-mobile tabs respectively.

This question bothers me as well. I tried quite a few modem firmwares on my US Tmobile Tab and was not able to get 3G with none of them except original stock version.
We have to consider another variable: hardware version of the Tab. It seems that they don't support frequencies of competitive carrier. I had success with Tmo Vibrant. It works on both Tmobile and ATT 3G with proper Sim, of course. Same modem file that worked on Vibrant did not provide 3G on ATT meaning that either software stack or hardware not compatible.
To my knowledge the source code of phone software is not available for public and thus not much we can do about it.
mmmm, there is something strange in the way this tar is compressed,
if you try to unzip it using 7zip (i know there is NO need to unzip it but i do it as usual to check files integrity)it gives an error...
so I think it's better to stay away even if it works it may got some broken bit.
this is the error it gives:
"There i no correct record at the end of archive"
I tried downloading several times and end up with a tar around 500kb in size NOT 12Mb
Hope no one else tries flashing if it happens to them
can anyone who was able to get the entire 12Mb file, pls host it somwhere, as some people have posted, i was only able to download 1Mb file, even if it is zipped thats not going to inflate to 12Mb..
pls post if you were able to download the original 12Mb file.
Worked fine when I downloaded from the Tab lol

Dude thank you so much! Clicked the Thanks button for you!!!

I have had an I9000 for some time but missed the Telstra 850MHz 3G service so finally bought an I9000M (Bell variant) locally in Australia.
This thread is for others that might buy this phone in Australia. ie as delivered is does not work as stated in the advertising.
As the I9000M arrived it had:
PDA: I9000UGJL2PHONE: I9000XXJPKCSC: I9000BMCJL2Build 2010.12
I did not really want to make any changes as this phone variant is renowned for internal SD card corruption and I wanted the phone to be in a condition to return it if I broke it after I stress tested the internal SDcard.
But . . as delivered is did not run 850MHz (as it was advertised it would) and GPS was pretty non functional. ie I was no better off compared to the I9000 I have.
So after research I found that the JPK PHONE firmware is pretty bad and using Odin I flashed the JL2 PHONE (aka modem firmware) and got immediate access to 850MHz.
At this stage the phone has not been rooted and if it dies I can still return it.
But now GPS is still horrible - lucky to get 2 satellites outside.
After research I found the JM9 GPS firmware update.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831725&highlight=Eclair+JM9+is+very+good
But this was a ClockWorkMod image - so I needed CWM - sigh - ie a kernel update is now required. OK I found the lightest touch kernel update I could - aka voodoo added to a JL2 kernel that provided CWM as well - flashed this using ODIN. (I did not do this until I also obtained the native JL2 kernel that I could flash to return the phone to stock).
Using CWM I backed up the phone then installed the Eclair JM9 GPS firmware update and I now have 7 satellites inside and approx 5 second lock outside. I have not made any other changes ie gps.conf is still set for north America for example.
So I am very happy. Buying the I9000M was worth it.
Other observations: Native JL2 is pretty fast - activation of voodoo lag fix only made a slight improvement - barely noticeable - in fact I will run with no lag fix I think.
To do: not a lot. I will look at Darkys ROM (running at present on the I9000) as at present video payback is not seemless on the I9000M - a tad jerky and with Darky's v8.0 ROM on the I9000 the playback is very smooth.
Have you tried seeARMS version of jl2? I like it a lot. You can also try flashing the jk4 modem to see if it helps your gps problems. That has worked for some people.
Edit: if you haven't read anywhere else, the bootloader from jl2 is supposed to fix the sd card corruption issue. This doesn't get deleted when flashing other roms either.

Ok, I seem to have missed out on the hype for this AWS firmware. I’m just curious. What’s the advantages? It’s not Gingerbread, correct? And I know it’s AWS firmware, but it won’t allow 3g on Tmobile, right? I am just wondering. Before I take the time to flash it to my phone. I have looked around but couldn't find details. Someone please help a noob out.
341 is based on android 2.2.2, the difference from 2.2 -> 2.2.2 is security fixes.
341 is the ONLY 2.2.2 based version, all other 3xx versions are only 2.2
(333 is 2.2.1, but it's not important seeing as we have the 341 dump also)
Until dell releases newer versions, this is the only way we can run 2.2.2 (or unless dell gives us the driver source so we can get some serious firmware hacking done)
3g speed is determined by what model streak you have, it just so happens that 2 aws streaks happen to have newer/unreleased builds. They have different modem configurations.
Cool, thanks for the reply. Checked my phone when I went on my break and got a notice of a software update lol. I'm on 318. i'll have to see what it is when I get home and get on wifi.
