Hey guys, love the new roms as i constantly download them daily. However coming across some sites that is limited the downloads to 200k or less and im fios. So digging around, found a site that has no throttle and unlimited file support. IF possible please use this site to mirror your files. Ushareit.org. Not affiliated with them, but just thought i would pass it alone to others that need a place to store files and cant access other sites due to country restrictions.
we use sourceforge.net which offers us a crap load of mirrors, and there is no DL cap, or wait time.
yea but we got others using rapidshare and mediafire, just some countries doesnt allow them to visit them. Just hate being throttle by such sites and just thought i would help with another solution. Sf is really good when it comes to downloading.. never had issues with them, even when i go across other countries.

Hi
For many of us, we live behind a digital wall called censorship. And we happen to have to use tools like TOR etc to get access to many homepages. Unfortunately that means that sites like Megaupload thinks all of us TOR users etc are the same downloader, so they tell us we can not use their servers.
Ergo, many many many of us can not D/L your ROM´s.
If you post new ROM´s, please submit torrents for the billions of us that does not have a free internet.
Sincerely yours - one of the billions of blocked Megaupload users.
Plus one....
Great idea!
I LOL:ed at the title of this thread, it sounds like an adult movie .. the ROM cockers! =)

plus 1 id be pissed if i could not download.
This thread has to win the "Thread title of the year award"
Plus one... i hate megaupload but haven't choice.
There are other solutions, but they are not freee....
A great idea. It's something I've thought about before but, thinking about it, you would have to rely on everyone to seed the files to make sure we all had (pretty much) instant access.
This is my understanding of it anyways.
Just throwing it out there but another area on the forums for torrents would be sweet but I can't imagine the work that would create!
Much respect to all Devs and Site Admin.
I agree, and love the title of this thread, hail ROM Cockers!!!
That's not ideal. Not everyone has the bandwidth to seed a single file. And like majority of torrent users they do not seed at all.

i won't be downloading from torrents. but, why the hassle when v-b-n has a server where cookers can put their files? and he's not saying "pay if you want to use it" it was free last time i checked. So, instead of inventing new solutions, use what this forum has to offer. And, if you want to improve, donate to him, so he can maintain the server
HAHAHA! Rom cockers!
Winner
+1, Great idea.
I've often wondered why torrents have not been utilised here. Considering that we're all phone enthusiasts here it's fairly likely that the majority of us are general tech enthusiasts too and therefor would have a decent collective bandwidth to serve these ROMs. Personally I have quite a considerably large pipe and I'm more than happy to seed anything that is legally distributable.
I think the argument you are making here is valid, but torrents is by no means a good way to distribute builds as they are frequently upgraded. You'll end up with hundreds of dead torrents in a week...

Rom builders already have the VBN server with direct downloading so, no need for torrent nor useless miseplled thraeds
I find within 24 hours the VBN site is overloaded and no more download slots avail.
However I am willing to host a tracker server however I have very limited bandwidth for uploads so speed will struggle at the start.
I am however willing to build it on a linux based server (Eg LAMP) as as first pass and then if someone can organize hosting of a smallish VM then the entire VM can be moved from there onwards
It should be possible to script in a way that a cook only has to upload his rom to the site via FTP and it will automatically create a tracker/torrent from it.
Lots of "maybe's" and "should's" but willing to help where I can.
I am 100% against it!!! I do not like torrents from the day one and if someone wants them - well, post them yourself and contribute a group that wants to see torrents.
Megaupload is much more reliable and if you cannot wait 40-50 seconds to download the build, then too bad...
Sorry - Im not trying to be negative but it is pretty selfish to make a thread and state "All ROM cockers: Please torrent your ROM´s! No Megaupload please" ... no go AT ALL!!!
So - I am the "minus one" ...
I think they are saying that Megaupload blocks then due to national firewall and work arounds?
I agree with not liking torrent at all. Megaupload is as good as it gets with downloading. Why cant you guys use Megaupload?
I also do agree that VBN is over capacity most of the time, which will not let you download if it is.
Greetings all,
I'm sure this is has been said before, but how about people hosting roms via bit-torrent? I have a great connection....I figure hosting the rom via bit-torrent would be better than rapid share ect, ect, ect....just a suggestion..
Holy crap I had this thought the other day also! I think it would be a good addition to cyanogen considering how much bandwidth they constantly use. I guess in my example though it would be tricky with the nightlies. Give an opportunity for the community who utilizes it to give back though. Good post
I appreciate where you're heart's at but without your very own 100mbps server and a reputation for uptime you're not going to generate much interest. People want direct links not torrents. They'd prefer rapidshare over torrents.
But your offer is nonetheless appreciated by those of us who know that while roms may be free bandwidth is a commodity.
Wrong. I'd imagine most people on XDA know how to use bittorrent. And if they did, they'd be crazy to prefer rapid share which has wait times. The best thing to do would be to provide links to both, and let us decide. I for one know what I would pick.
Major problem, OP: Most American ISP's throttle the crap out of torrents. Comcast will take a torrent with 10,000 seeds which on other ISP's will see >5,000KBps, but on Comcast or AT&T, it will crawl to 15KBps.

*cough* http://goo-inside.me/
Snipa and I are always looking for more ROMs to host. Devs are free to PM me, and I'll either get them set up with an FTP account, or rsync (rsync preferred).
I would definitely participate in sharing these via torrent. I doubt that a dev will post a torrent link up, but a user could download, make the torrent, upload it to somewhere free like heet and then PM the dev the link and then maybe he will post it up as an alternate source of downloading. The only problem with this is unless you have a seedbox, most people will probably hit and run making download speeds terribly slow. If someone has a 100mbit seedbox then I am all for hosting torrents to download.

rapidshare sucks ! id take a torrent over rapidshare
An idea would also be to add ALL the possible mods and themes.
For example:
Torrent contents:
MikFroYo 4.5
Cyan Dragon Theme
Cyan Flower Theme
Cyan Skull Theme
all the add ons
Matte Blues
etc etc etc
It'd be a huge download but with the links in the torrent description to all the various threads they came from, newbies and lazy people wouldn't have to browse the forum for days and days to find everything.
Plus, if someone made a super torrent with all the roms and another one with all the themes, one with all the kernels, etc (with links in the description), one could back-up our entire section of the forums.
I'm pretty good with torrents but my uptime is crap, otherwise I'd love to help!
i would really prefer a usenet post over a torrent, but id take a torrent over rapidshare anyday. i always wondered why people don't use filedropper.com instead of rapidshare. it's free an no queue times.
this could be done by the ROM users as a way to give back. seed a torrent.

Only if your downloading music.... or videos. There are legal uses for them
Torrenting is legal.
Torrenting copyrighted items is illegal.
I would be willing to seed this every day, if we ever do it.
Im with this plan as well. I hate rapid share, etc.......

Oh, I'd prefer usenet over torrents also, but who really knows about usenet? Next thing would be, hey...how about IRC.....
I'd be more than willing to seed, I have an old ubuntu server with rtorrent on it....it's not much, but I'm sure I could seed the hell out of some rom's
also, i would have to give a +1 to filedropper. Everyone should try it. I love the 1mb /second downloads!

Both of you forgot the first rule of usenet.
Usenet is dying.
I see this being a good option. Mirrors aren't always available. Sites go down, or throttle bandwith. Rapidshare and some others have horrible ads that even Firefox with ABP doesn't always catch (it gets 99% but still).
And like it was said before, you can have one torrent with the ROM, kernel, theme, add-ons and more. If you don't want a certain theme then mark it to not download (although it would be nice if you did as long as you will seed for others).
I do see this being an issue for CM nightlies so I guess this doesn't even affect me that much.
PS: downloading music and movies via torrent aren't technically illegal, either (as long as you own a physical copy of the music or movie). I have gotten a few e-mails from Comcast and all they ever say is to stop SHARING the file. They can only get you for uploading them (because they can't prove digitally that you don't have the CD or DVD at home).
Any decent apps to download torrents on your phone? Never thought about doing it but i guess its possible.
Hey everyone,
The recent events with MegaUpload have resulted in a variety of file sharing sites discontinuing their services. I'm posting this thread as I read a Lifehacker article today which explicitly states sites that have begun shuttering their services. I'm just passing info you all may find resourceful. Here is a link to the article:
http://lifehacker.com/5878480/the-state-of-filesharing-websites
Yeah not surprising. Still hundreds of others to choose from, but it's a bad sign when sites are doing this. I like uploading to 10+ sources then another copy on my trusty HD. The sad thing is this is done with our current laws, think about what could be done if a new law passes that doesn't require sites to be on trial. Internet destroyed.
Not surprising at all, except the shock I experienced when visiting their site. Wasn't expecting them to just disappear.
Everyone knows about Dropbox I guess, but one media sharing site I have always enjoyed is Mediafire. The one drawback is the max filesize is 200MB but it's proven itself useful to me several times. Just thought I would mention something nice that wasn't talked about in that article.
It seems like the strategy is to shutter these services and then eliminate bittorrent so that most pirates' plan b is non-existant

There's so many other ways to pirate too that most people don't even know about
I'm sure there are plenty of alternatives, power to the user and whatnot. I was more so surprised at how several other sites immediately slowed or shut down once MegaUpload was taken down. I'm all for removal of sites that intentionally host pirated movies/music but it takes on another dimension when people with legitimate files have no access to them. Again, that's why you save your files in various locations.

this... people need to realize what can happen if these new laws pass.
Recently I've noticed that the free uploading websites have been going down and/or uploads being removed... Many of the ROM's are being pulled down. Well it's time to find a new way to host the files for free...

I would say make a free account on 000webhost, upload a mini site describing your ROM, and upload your ROM. 000webhost gives 1.5GB of space. But others may have better ways so collaborate.

You can't do that, it goes agaisn't the rules of 000Webhost.

Hmmm, I thought that I read that somewhere... Oh well, like I said collaborate, how are you gonna share your custom ROMs now?
So I'vo got a hosting space that is used to host an HD2 rom. I don't have limitations in terms of space and bandwidth but I don't want use for now...Maybe later...
How about 4shared, mediafire ?
The other solution would be to everybody send 1 € or $1 and to acquire an unlimited hosting plan with access to the devs only...
Why aren't people just using the torrent system? You can torrent from just about any modern device.
Its free, and if bandwidth is an issue for a dev, you can throttle upload speed easily and let initial leechers pick up the slack.
Not to sound sarcastic, but torrenting was made in large part FOR collaberation and sundry, not just pirating. Ironic that we've shifted back to reliance on download server services.
If folks lose the "hit and run" mentality propogated by Megafileserveuploadetc sites we can simplify this entire dynamic drastically.
[Atrix 4GWannabe] XDA Premium suggestions - Analytics opt-out, Setting backup/restore
XDA should open torrent tracket
Sounds funny but that's not bad idea, although that would work only for new/popular files...
+1 Bit Torrent... I'll seed!
im not sure why i didnt think of it either, i am not going to lie that i have been a tad illegal here and there, but i was upset about some legal files getting hit in the cross fire, i have a usb 3.0 1TB drive for my files and a 50 DL 15 UL connection with an always on connection, ill torrent my ass off knowing i wont get a letter for doing something illegal
I dont find it really a huge issue, since there are still many ways to get files if you really need or want them. Plus you can share public files from dropbox which is a fairly good way as long as you have the storage and a decent upload speed.
Where to Host android files
Through the grape vine i have learned of a new site set not yet open but sounds great for developers. its androidromhosting.com , its suppose to open soon and specialize in hosting all things android for the community, developers will have opportunities for their own portals and all kinds of cool stuff. I know some of the people involved and I will update here as soon as it opens !!
Alaq!
can you reupload fastboot wipe? all the links are dead
Hi, If this is a use to anyone I found a french website hosting stock ROM's for Android phones. No registration is required and the downloads seem to be pretty fast.
Just to add, I love XDA and wouldn't dream of putting spam links on it's website so if there is any then I have not noticed nor do I have any connection with the site I give a link to. I found this after having enough of Hotfile delaying downloads, dropping my transfer rates and nagging me for money. I would be happy to pay a fee but not their rip off fee's!
