Hi everyone,
I would like you guys to check the voice recognition for Voice Search. It seems that it would not recognize any names in my contact list, including very ready names such as John. I am currently using Super Clean NV 2.7. Thank you!

I'm having the same issue with Superclean v2.6. I'll be we're not the first to notice this.
*EDIT*
I don't know that this is an issue with the ROM, but with Google.

Its a little frustrating because I use it to text and I've been having this problem ever since I flashed a new rom. I'm using fresh's latest version.
My problem is that when I send a text to someone using google voice I don't get the replies. I also delete conversations and they keep coming back. I also can't delete the conversations that are in my trash.
I also have similar issues with google talk in regards to the deleting issues. I delete a conversation and when they reply back to me I see the while conversation that I just deleted. Anyone have any idea?

I am having trouble text messaging my mom because the phone is adding +1 to the beginning of her phone number. The text message never goes thru. When I send the text message by typing in the number it sends fine.the problem is only when I select the contact from list. The contact list does not have the +1 in it so I don't know where it is coming from

Yea, i actually sat on the phone with verizon tech support for 2+ hours while they debugged this issue, turns out for some reason the +1 breaks it.. they never gave me an explanation, only a fix. Take the +1 out of the contact and make sure its saved and synced, you also need to nuke your message history after making the change or new messages will still have the +1 in front of them.

I tried taking it out of the contact # and killed the message history but still not working

I have the same problem...I don't get why this phone was released with so many bugs....I'm about to go get an Incredible
I had the same issue and was waiting for someone else to have this problem too. Removing the +1 on your phone contacts won't sync it completely it seems so once google syncs on your phone again the +1 will return. So what I ended up having to do is going on gmail on my pc and deleting all the +1 contacts in there. That did the trick right away. Hope this helps

I tried clearing my contact and messaging data and now I lost all my contacts and I can't re sync then from facebook or google

Its not that...iv tried everything to fix it..even completely erased all contacts and added just the problem number and still doesn't work...cleared all recent info and sms removed sync completely...nothing works

same thing happened to me (sending a text to AT&T) - had to remove the 1 from all my contacts via GMAIL.
Now fixed
Strange. I don't have any issues like this.
I did have the same issue as the op described, but I think the ota update fixed it or the clean rom posted in the development forum corrected the messaging app. It definitly has something to do with the messaging app since when I installed handcent sms all my messages worked without the +1 being added.

I had the same problem and fixed mine..here are the steps I took.
Log into Gmail on your computer, go through all your contacts and take out the +1 as well as the dashes 123-456-7890 to 1234567890 and save that. I then did a factory reset for my phone. Everything works great now.
I think when you have a GSM service they use the + symbol
I had this same problem. When I got my phone the text messaging was working just fine. Couple days later no one was getting my text. So I went down to the store and they did everything they could do and I finally figured out it was the +1 in the numbers.
I switched over from a G1 on T-Mobile, so GSM can use +1 but it seems Verizon or CDMA has a problem with it.
I went through all my contacts, got rid of the +1. Yet when I'd send a message through the default sms app the moment they replied back it would automatically add the +1 again. So the only solution I found was that I had to use a different SMS app. I went with Handcent.
Im more concerned why you have the country code in your contacts list anyway? Ever since I had my first phone years ago manuals said not to put the country code in your contacts list for domestic contacts. Ive never had a problem.

i tried everything... the only thing that fixed it for me was a complete factory reset

I had an sms issue I have been trying to resolve for weeks. Spent three hours with tech support troubleshooting, and finally determined something in the hardware. Took it in for a replacement. My g/f has the same phone, and no issues.
I wish verizon (or Samsung?) would fix this!

When traveling internationally, it's a royal PIA when your US & Canada contact records don't include the country code and you're trying to place a call to north america... When I go overseas, I use an unlocked GSM android phone, and I would like to load my US contacts via Google in a usable format (10 digit numbers aren't usable from abroad).
This is a Verizon-Samsung bug - removing the country code from all US contact records is a work-around (not a fix!). My previous Verizon phones (mostly old Windows mobile handsets) had no trouble sending texts to US mobiles using the international standard country code prefix.
I just loaded up the leaked froyo modem, kernel and rom (EB01, EB16 & superclean 2.6 voodoo respectively), and unfortunately I see this issue persists...
Can anyone tell me if any of the verizon Android handsets from HTC or motorola share this flaw?
Thanks!
I'm still pretty new to programming and have been struggling trying to get my app to work with contacts, basically what I want is for the user to click a button and for their contacts to appear and upon selecting one it will return their phone number.
If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be awesome!
Bump... Please somebody I've tried so many ways only to have my app fc but no idea why

You're question is to generic to answer. Google is your friend and there is a ton of documentation and examples on this topic.
Try searching for "contacts intents startActivityForResult"
Since upgrading to froyo iv noticed messages are appearing in my call log. Dont know about anyone else but i find this to be very annoying when trying to find an unsaved number. Are there any ways to change this feature to display calls only same as before?
Thanks

Unfortunately the phone doesn't have a true 'call log' it instead uses the samsung contact log which I also find to be a bit of an annoyance.
I have the same problem on my epic with froyo. I send about 7000 or 8000 messages a month so this thing is starting to become annoying. Does anyone have a solution? anyway to put the 2.1 dial pad and call log back?
i am also looking to solve this. hate all the smses clogging up call log. typical "smart-ass" decision by samsung.
At least im not the only one that finds this hugely annoying!
Hopefully someone can extract the old one for us to replace this feature
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I agree! This is very annoying. A simple "only calls" option would be perfect.
A temporary fix is to sort it to "missed calls" or "recieved calls" (depending on what are you looking for), but it's not the same.
Anyone found a fix for this issue yet? Will try asking in the sgstools thread see if he can cook up a fix there.
Thanks.

Workaround
I upgraded to Froyo yesterday and this has been pissing me off all day. Not long after finding this post I found a workaround. I've installed Dialer One from Android Market, and using Launcher Pro, I moved the Froyo phone app from the home screen and put Dialer One in it's place, and also renamed it to Phone on my Launcher Pro home screen. I also replaced the icon on the bottom bar with Dialer One.
Any easier ways to get this sorted?
There is a workaround for this. Check my previous thread on the same subject for details.
Most people don't realize that there are TWO call log apps on the native dialer. The first can be found by opening the native dialer and clicking LOGS. That one has the problem you describe.
The second can be found by opening the dialer, click on CONTACTS and then HISTORY. Click the settings button and unselect "messages".

montrealguy,
I don't have that setting in my sprint epic 4g
montrealguy
When I look under the Contacts and History, it looks correct. Only phone calls showing up. But when I click on the Call Logs in the dialer, it has messages also. You can go to menu and then View By, and modify it here, but no good option to see all but messages.

Same issue here on my Samsung Vibrant on 2.2... Is there a way I could install the apk file from 2.1 to replace the froyo dialer files? It's annoying to have messages show up within my call log, that's what the messages log is for
Bump for someone to please assist... thanks.
If you go to the dialer and then logs and push the menu button and select "view by" you can at least sort by call type. This is with 2.2.1 btw.

Hey guys, quick question!
My contacts are showing up in the contacts bit but when I get phonecalls and messages I just see numbers. Even though I have the contacts saved. Any ideas what it may be?
I'm on X note 5.1 and have lots of xposed settings installed, non of which modify the dialer or contact storage.

Do you have call display as part of your cell package? I believe you need that service activated in order for you to see incoming contact info.
If you do have that service, maybe call display is turned off in your options?

I think I know the problem ur having, so I'm gonna attempt to help. This happened to me and for the life of me couldn't figure out the solution. But then after a few minutes I got it. What u wanna do is open up ur contacts then hit the menu button and choose "contacts to display". Once that page pops up pick the one that says "device". Now back out to ur contacts again, then pick a contact and insert whatever may be missing. For me it was all the pictures. So I had to apply all my pictures over again. I think this is what is going on with ur contacts. Once ur done adding pictures go to ur messages or ask someone to call and u should now see all their info including pics. I hope I was able to help u. If I was all the way off base, sorry for post.

That's not standard in the USA? -EDIT Just seen original poster is in the UK - Caller ID is standard here if you have their number stored.

Was what I was gonna suggest also, and it's the most logical one I can think of regarding the subject.

Ahh, see, depending on what package you have here, it's an extra feature you need to pay for, so thought it might be something to consider. I have no idea how cell packages are structured outside my local carriers.
