I'm sooooo glad that for only $10 a month, I'm getting 'premium' 4G data, which lets me watch 'HQ' youtube videos and do other thing that's sprint's suckass 100kbps 3G network wouldn't be able to pull off. At this rate, I'm planning on getting an extra 1/10th of a HQ youtube video per month!
Let's just face it: Sprint fing sucks.

Yeah, well it's like this everywhere I've been in Idaho. I drive around using antennas and speedtest...maybe one out of 10 towers is actually acceptable, good service, perfect service, or almost no service - it doesn't matter, it just sucks.

Count your blessings... We gets no 4G in San Diego... And I still have to pay the premium data fee.

thanks a million,Sprint!
Sucks to be you. Took this speed test last night.
OK, you guys getting 8M download etc on the bogus Speedtest:
Clear cache
Time your download for any graphic-heavy site on 4G..say desktop crackberry.com.
Clear cache again
Download the same site on 3G.
Report results.
Speedtest does NOT correlate with real world surfing results.
4G's a crock....is realworld 8M type speed only under perfect conditions...which is rare.

I just got off the phone *****ing to them about this ****.
Man that sucks. These are the average speeds i get at home.
~300kb/s on 3G (Half bars of signal)
~4.3Mb/s on 4G (This is with only 2 bars on 4G)
So i cant complain...
Flippin sad... That's all I can say... I am averaging 2.5Mbps indoors (we have crappy indoor coverage) and well...
Yes, don't use speedtest.net as the servers are so inaccurate it's not even funny! Try going straight from your browser to http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest and see what you get. The results seem to be much more consistent.
You do realize your bars are for mobile reception... not 3g service right...sigh, if only everyone knew...

You do realize that is not as good of a test as speedtest as your test takes into account the rendering performance of the mobile cpu. The only way to not factor in cpu performance is to tether off of a pc. Anyway the speedtest app does not cache so your point is a bit invalid. Plus how are you getting 440ms on 4g that seems really off. I've had speeds between 2.5 down up to the 6 I show there on 4G throughout Orange County.
Full Disclosure I am running CM7 nightly with wimax.
3G speeds from work...
1.3 down ... I get not even half that at home. I'm convinced my job doesn't want me home.

OP, I live in Utah, so not too far off from Idaho. Those were the best I EVER saw on 3G with T-Mobile (if I ever had a 3G signal). I average 1.2-1.8mbps on 3G and 5-8mbps on 4G.

Perhaps, but I do in fact get pages loading faster on 4G than on 3G. Also, with ANY kind of streaming there's a huge difference on 4G. Youtube will typically give me an error 3-4 times or more on 3G. 4G loads it up right away. And I've tried it in several spots. This is just my personal experience though, so YMMV.

Dang, in Houston I'm lucky to break 300kB.
I thought Houston had a good coverage area? Does it not?
I still think they need to update the Radio. It has something to do with it I think. Because the CLEAR adapter cards can get higher speeds in the same area. I am not complaining mind you. Anything consistently over 2MB is very nice.

I have never gotten over 400kB, and that was first day of launch early morning...it seems the network went to crap after the EVO launch. The main issue for me is it won't get reception in my downtown office building (or any comercial building really) due to the high frequencies wimax uses.
Average speeds with typical signal is about 220kB for me.
What is your 3G speeds? Since it uses a different frequency you might get better speeds through 3G.
Have you downloaded the speedtest.net app into your droid?

Yeah I think people get confused with kb, Kb, Mbps and MB/sec, etc.
For some reason on the CLEAR/WiMax Air Cards they can reach the limit as it does for me when I was testing them. But in the same spot my 4G can't get over 3.5Mbps.

I am not sure but I think for the moment I think they are. I have heard reports that the people on the Sprint HOTSPOT are getting better speeds. They are using different servers. So it would make sense to make sure they get the better speeds. The idea of downloading large files to your phone is not really that grand. Having a low latency network with consistent 1.5Mbps speeds would make for a good Mobile OS experience. Even video chat works well at that speed.

What do you get in your office?
I've only seen 2 people out of the hundreds who already have their G2 get above 7Mb download speeds. Heck, most people don't even get above 4Mb download! I've seen so many people with 0.5Mb download speeds even when their in an HSPA+ supported area like NYC or Los Angeles.
I haven't gotten my G2 yet so I can't test it, but what I've seen so far has been pathetic. I've seen a youtube video where a G1 beats a G2 in a Speedtest and another where the Evo gets above 5Mb download but the G2 gets 0.5Mb download while in an HSPA+ area. Even the Droid 2 on 3G got higher than the G2.
This is T-Mobiles main selling point but only like 2% of people are actually getting these high speeds. WTF GIVES?
If you are getting these high speeds, are they consistent? Or do you always fluctuate from high-low speeds?
I'm getting a little skeptical now. I'm not worried about the internal memory but the loose hinge and slow download speeds would kill me. Again, this is T-Mobiles main selling point for the G2 but no one is getting these speeds. I can't imagine what people will say when more blog sites/reviews get there hands on this phone. T-Mobile would look silly claiming 4G speeds while my friends Evo gets 10Mb download on 4G.

It has nothing to do with that.
Just becausr your city HAS HSPA+ doesnt mean its availible at all 3G towers yet. That and if you didnt peak at 6mbps regularly on a fast 7.2 device you would NOT see an increase with the G2.

Man LTE is sooooo amazing. But the uploading being 22 is f**king awesome!
just thought I would clear this up, The high uploads are due to the speedtest app not being able to measure LTE uploading correctly.
These scores are completely inaccurate.
It might as well say 99999999.9999999mbps upload.

Oh that makes sense. But I get those download speeds on my Moto Atrix!
Is anyone else having a problem with their atrix switching to Edge? I'll try to run a speed test or watch a video and it will just randomly switch to edge, then no signal, then back to H. What's the deal?
That was the point of this post. Most atrixes (Atrices?) are faster than this. Mine gets 5 down
Intersting results - mine were much different in Phoenix AZ.
I think in general the speedtest app is broken. When doing it on the webpage I was getting more consistantly between 15-20 MBps download and 5 MB upload.
I am actually giving back my atrix tomorrow. Best phone I have ever had, but the network is not even 3g speed out here (even with a microcell in my house I still can not get over 1.5 MB download and we all know about the stellar upload speed)

LTE uses a single channel(SC)-FDMA while WiMax still uses OFDMA for their respective uplink signaling. OFDMA is what 3G uses, hence why you can still get an accurate reading on the Evo.

You must not like iPhones... Sprint's 3G speeds have been getting progressively worse over the past year and I'd say it probably due to free smartphone promos (e.g., free Evos through Radio Shack--I know three people that got them for free) than iPhones. Sprint knows about it and is doing something about it. I don't remember where I read the article (I just googled it and unfortunately couldn't find it) where it states that Sprint is improving their infrastructure. I flashed back to Froyo because I thought that might be the problem and my speeds did increase for a while and then dropped back. Just be patient.

Here's my "normal" speeds... I was getting faster speeds on dial-up back in 1995. This has happened in my area since last November. Before that, I could easily pull 2mbps all day and all night.
Everyone else with this problem, do your speeds increase late night/early morning? Between about 2am and 6am, I can pull about 1.3mbps, but during the day or any other time, I can NEVER get above 100kbps. Obviously this shows that the towers are just overloaded, and not broken, as Sprint keeps claiming.
Just did this test, also using 3g turbocharger script
Here is a nice 4g screenshot

Everyone has a "Smartphone" now. It was nice when Sprint didn't have alot of customers. There network is slammed right now, same as what happened with ATT. Just wait until you wont be able to connect.. Have you ever been to a car race with over 100k people. Good luck on getting a connection.

I've been getting decent downloads early am 2_4 but during the day...screeching hault I just did a test at 0.08 mb down

Im using 3g Turbo charger and in Atl. Don't have screen right now but just ran test and got 1.8mb dl and 686 k upload
Well its either sprint or just more iPhone suckage cause my bro in law got sprint iPhone and speed tests side by side I'd get .24mbps and he'd get .02 averages. Kinda funny and kinda sad at same time. But guess its a wide spread thing per sprint community page.

Sorry to hear you are having 3G issues. My 3G shot up about a month ago from about 0.3m to more than 1.0m. I have never had anything below 0.1m unless I was roaming on Verizon. Now I'm pretty much above 1.0m with occasional slow downs, but still over 0.3m when slow.

Isn't your county the one with "America's toughest sheriff" or something? The name sounds familiar and recent on TV.

Typical <1Mbs. Upload speeds are usually faster than download.
I have had crapy 3G speeds ever since I switched to the hero just after it came out. Before that with my touch pro I would get 1.5 Mbps easy all day and night.
The iPhone is not going to slow down the network anymore than any android phone.
Sprints data sucks!!!!!!
I don't get it I keep seeing them post speeds of 200-300KBps with HSPA+........ running speedtest on my GS2 I'm getting around 1.5MBps and yes I mean Byte and not bit. HSPA+ in theory can go to 21mbps so there is still room to grow to at least 2MBps with HSPA+. Then with DCHSPA+ with the Nexus 4 on paper you can reach speeds of 4-5MBps and my friend who lives in another country has a DCHSPA+ modem and he is speedtested it for me and got 3.8MBps.
I see all these LTE 4G speeds and they're getting from 21mbps - 32mbps in most cases which is like 2.5MBps -4MBps in speed.
I mean I'm getting not far off that right now with Three in the UK on my GS2 and I haven't even tried a DCHSPA device yet, I'm not sure if three support it.
I don't get where these sites are getting 200-300KBps speeds from?
On T-Mobile with the galaxy s2 I got speeds around 15Mbps down and about 3-4Mbps upload on their HSPA+42. Nexus 4 should get the same. Although T-Mobile has very limited HSPA+ where I am living now so I won't be able to test in that same area for a while.. Those reviews are garbage, just saying

Yeh so you're getting like 1.8MBps which tbh is more than enough for a mobile but also close to these poor LTE speeds which are really just DCHSPA+ speeds.

It's more than enough for what I need data for, which is basically streaming music, the occasional youtube video, and webpages/checking email.

It's also not much slower than LTE right now......
I don't see how all these sites seem to be getting such low speeds.
Its just depends on your luck on how close the celltower is to you. At my work its over 20Mbps with an SII, at home its more around 5Mbps.
I have seen lots of t-mobile and AT&T cell sites. Really depends on if they have upgraded to a true fiber, like using the local Comcast or other high speed provider. Or if they are still using the multiple t1 lines to power it.
A lot of sites with multiple cell providers, usually AT&T will have copper into site, while the others have a fiber connection. Just depends. =/ Even if you see fiber into the cell site, it can just mean they are using it for distance run, coming from t1 station down the road.
Some of these sites have some really old stuff in them. Kinda hit or miss on the ones that have a really good internet connection to them.
My input. Just from seeing the cell sites.
And if you are right under a cell site, you never connect to that one...to much signal. It connects you to one further away

They must be using AT&T because their HSPA+ network can be pretty slow sometimes, compared to T-Mobile that is. In my area AT&T gets about 2-4Mbps down and maybe 1Mbps up.
I had my father's galaxy s2 (42mbps) and my galaxy nexus (21mbps) right next to each other dieting a speed test.
Galaxy s2 always got double the speed. He was getting 14mbps and I couldn't break 7mbps
I know radios and software and everything else come into play, but the potential for more is there

Unless you're on att or coming from another carrier to tmo and not sure what you'll get why would you be worried about this. If you're already on tmo you should get the same or better speeds, correct?

And I'm pretty sure there will be different radios we can install. I'll probably install the radio I have on my sgs2.

I was wondering how the speeds actually were since I'll be coming from Verizon.
With tmo in south fla you will get around 8-23 down and 1-5 upload.
What about speeds for AT&T in southern california?
Here is a wild guess; (most) reviewers are in an area which was affected by Sandy.
That's just B.S. I live close to DC area and I got upto 21 MBPS on my HTC ONE S. LTE doesn't necessarily mean its faster than HSPA+ .T-Mo's HSPA+ is awesome but probably ignorant people can't tell the difference.
You can check data speeds for your carrier at rootmetrics. In my area, T-Mobile gets at best 1 mb download. Verizon has LTE here which gets 20 - 30 mbps. Stupid fast. That being said, I'm probably going with AT&T via Straight Talk.

This is a very bad idea.
1) The flash will most likely fail.
2) If it did somehow flash your baseband will be screwed.
These are theoretical speeds, anyway. I have never had more than 7 or 8 Mbps down on my phone. And it just depends on cellphone traffic through that particular tower, I think. I have done speed tests countless times when I barely crack 1 Mbps on "HSPA+".
This is what I am getting with t-mobile, and i am happy lol
