[Q] Samsung Focus can do HSUPA? - Focus General

just came across this article about the Samsung Focus is HSUPA capable, but off by default...similar to the HTC Inspire supposed 4G and Motorola Atrix...
http://samsungwp7.com/blog/2010/12/...boost-hack-enable-hsupa-not-on-by-defaul.html
and it's a tutorial on how to enable it through the diagnostic menu
can anyone confirm this??

I'll give it a try when my Focus arrives in the mail.

yes there is a thread here about this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=891502

I just purchased my phone the other day and on the top of the phone next to the USB port is a sticker that says "Qualcomm 3G HSDPA."

*Slams face to desk*
I never recognized it. I did, but never read it

Any idea if there is a way to enable 3g for t-mobile with the htc surround? I have mms working but no data yet... also would flashing a different radio to it help?

not possible. HTC surround is att exclusive and att 3g works on a different frequency than mobile, and its not possible to modify the internal 3g antenna frequency. You may be able to get 2g (edge) working tho. Your best bet is sticking to free WiFi areas

[Q] HTC HD2 w/ WP7 keeps rebooting by itself + 3G not working help?

I recently put Windows phone 7 on my HTC HD2 and everything is working fine except that the
3G doesnt work at all and when i put the phone in my pocket it just shuts off, or when the
backlight turns off for more then a minute the phone shuts off and i have to pull the battery out to turn it on again. sometimes it softresets by itself and sometimes hard resets and i lose everything. its getting really annoying and i know lots of people had problems with this, but i havent seen any threads about em, maybe im blind. if there is can someone post a link leading me there?
I got the activation code from microsoft customer service so im able to sync windows live with the phone but i still cannot download apps. it says "cannot get info at this time please try again later"
If you know the solution to my problems please help? Thanks
edit: dammit now the wifi doesnt work anymore..;-(
edit: phone works perfectly now, running on HSPA+ network at 4mbps. marketplace works fine, random reboots were from a bent battery pin from yanking the battery to hard from time to time.
i used chevronwp7 unlock to get marketplace working and to download network config app.
Looks like an incompatible sd card, have you tried another one ?
What brand, size, and class is it ?

I had also the problem with the endless booting once, get the battery out and restart again.
For the 3g you should take a look at the apn settings which you will find in the settings --mobile network---apn settings you should call your operator and ask them the required fields. I also had to set up the settings manualy by myself
It's your sd card for sure.
try a new one.
well i got everything running perfectly fine sd card wasnt the problem.
i believe one of the battery pins was bent
also the 3g i called t-mobile and of course they couldnt do anything so i got chevronwp7 unlock and unlocked the phone and installed some apps with it to get live services working (doesnt work with just an activation code) and ran connection setup app now the device is perfect and even on HSPA+/4G
its pretty much like an hd7 now
only problem ive noticed is battery drains pretty quickly but thats about it

HTC HD2 Don't supports HSPA+ aswell not 4g...the maximum is HSPA 7,2Mbit
For the 3G problem, try going into the settings, then click on cellular, scroll down and click add apn, then in the APN field, type in internet2.voicestream.com and leave the user name and password fields blank. If that doesn't work, try typing in wap.voicestream.com or epc.tmobile.com. Make sure you turn roaming on. Note: Only works if you have T-Mobile. As for the rebooting problem, just flash the ROM again and it should fix it.
rebooting means bad sd card

im having the same problem with my phone resetting itself. my sd card is a SanDisk 8GB. Is that compatible? If not, which ones are?
My SD card is the original and it worked fine with Windows Mobile 6.5.
its not that the card its self is faulty or bad as has been said, its that its not compatible, likely because it has low random access speeds. no two cards are alike so dont assume that if one works so will an identical card

thats what i thought as well but t-mobile had me changed to their 4g network,
and now in the top left corner of the screen next to the signal bar an "H" appears and some areas where theres no 4g coverage it switches to 3g.
also i ran a mobile speed test with the wi-fi turned OFF and it ran at 4mbps
way faster then i was doing with gprs.
trust me its fast and apparently does work with t-mobiles 4g network
i tried to post the image of the result but i have less then 8 posts so it wont let me.
you guys are right it is the SD card causing the endless reboots, but the funny thing is the first time i installed wp7 my card worked fine its when i tried a new wp7 that things got messed up

First of all, the HD2 is only a 3G phone. 4G requires specific hardware! The "H" you see shows during any high-speed data transmission. As for 3G working on the 4G network, of course it has to work...4G has to be backward compatible and support 3G. When you have "H" it means the phone is operating in HSPA speeds.
BTW...no such thing as 4G here in the states. 4G is just a marketing term being used to sell HSPA+ which is just an enhanced 3G. And which also requires hardware...so again...you can't be getting 4G service on the HD2. The HD2 hardware doesn't support HSPA+.
And for the guy who can't get 3G to work...you need to go into Marketplace and to HTC Applications and download the Data Connection app. This automatically configures your phone to the T-Mobile network settings for the HD2.
And 4G doesn't mean it runs at 4mbps...LOL! If I were you I wouldn't go around claiming things that can never exist or try to sound like you're all that on 4G.

LMAO. No such thing as 4G? There is no such thing as a 4th generation network? So GPRS to HSPA+ is not an advancement? No **** its enhanced 3G, just as 3G is enhanced 2G. Also 4G T-Mobiles 4G network apparently runs at 1mbps dl speed, where as regular 4G speeds would be 3-6 mpbs. I'm at a steady 4. You are right about the HD2 hardware not supporting 4G, but since tmo upgraded their towers i am still able to use it but not to its full capacity. Pretty much it's like 3.5G which would explain the "H" in the top left corner. And since HD2 has HSDPA it is able to have a max or 7.2mbps dl speed and 2mbit upload, which imo is more then enough.
In conclusion, rather then trying to make someone seem dumb over the internet, you can just kindly correct them. Also this website was no help as i solved the problems i was having on my own when i finally figured it out. Everyone was telling me the problem was its an incompatible SD card when it was just the battery pins, LOL.
There is such a thing as 4G, but i doubt very much that anyone is using it, more likely you are using a system based on 3G tech, such as HSPA, typical types of 4G tech are WiMax and LTE.
HSPA+ is the current maximum you can get from 3G, it is not a 4th gen tech, it is firmly 3G, or for marketing, they may call its 3.5G, which is just a bollocks marketing term.
depends
i think a lot of these problems are user-specific because i flashed the ROM again and all my problems were solved except for Marketplace, which I also fixed myself.

Sorry to burst your bubble...again...but LTE does not conform to official 4G standards. No one officially conforms to 4G standards. What the companies claim as 4G is basically enhanced 3G tech for marketing purposes!!!!

Did you actually read the information available on the net on this?
LTE and WiMax both are considered pre-4G data services, and not 3G the 4G spec was updated which ment that both techs fell short of the standardised spec after they were submitted
So, WiMax2 and LTE advanced have now been created which do meet the spec, unless it changes again. In terms of a difference between the two versions you can think of the jump from 3G to HSPA, same tech, slight modifcation
Why do you have to be such an arse? go for a run or something, the Endorphins should make you a bit more cheerful and they cost nothing.

[Q] ARIA wont pickup 3G DATA connection

My Aria doesn' t pickup 3G connection i am using at&t rom until I can root it does anyone know if the problem is because os AT&T software I am connected to Portuguese carrier TMN.
The AT&T version of the Aria does not support the 3G frequencies that TMN uses. This basically means there is no way to get 3G data speeds with this phone on that carrier. However you should be able to get 2G data and voice calls without a problem.
Unfortunately installing a new ROM will not fix this issue. There's nothing you can do about it.
And is there any chance of changing the radio firmware so it would support it?

Nope, sorry. It's a difference in the hardware, not the software.
There are two "versions" of the HTC Aria/Liberty/Gratia. The A6366 which is the AT&T Aria and supports 850/1900MHz 3G bands, and the A6380 which is called Aria or Gratia depending on the region and supports 900/2100MHz 3G bands. It should say underneath the battery which version you have if you want to be certain. You would need the A6380 to get 3G to work in your area.

[Q] is there a rom to enable 4g on the hd2

hi i was reading online and someone was offering to flash a rom that is android on the hd2 and enable 4g does anyone know what this is?
I could be very well wrong but i presume its hardware enabled like wifi b/g/n etc
The HD2 is not a "4g" phone.
hd2 is 3g+ HSDPA so no it will never become possible...
no it is not possible to enable 4g as it doesnt have the hardware capable of this

[Q] Not using wifi?

In my work developing an App for localized radar information, I find that when I need information from the internet, my phone doesnt use the wifi, but relys on data usage. My house's wifi is unsecured, and my phone is always connected when in range, but where I do my developing in the house there is scant 3g coverage and mostly Edge coverage. (Kinda inbetween towers where I live)
For example, my Weatherbug App will not load (and sometimes lock up) unless the signal indicator says H or 3G or 4G, while being connected to wifi.
I am new to mobile OS so is there something I am doing wrong or something I have not set on the phone?
I have a very weak signal in my apartment. My phone constantly bounces between no signal and 1 or 2 bars. I find that my DVP works much better when I manually turn off the data connection in the Cellular settings when I want to use wifi as my primary connection.
Your DVP says H or 4G? If so, you have soemhing the rest of us do not..
Sent from my Venue Pro using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Yeah my carrier put a 4g sim into my DVP and upgraded the radio...Works too, I didnt believe it when I first heard it.
i call shenanigans.
if there was a way to screen cap i would show you...but i do not know of any way thus far.
speaking of which, what radio version do you guys have? I got radio software 2.2.50.18, is that any different?

I have that same radio in my at&t dvp. Bottom line is that the phone does not ship with a 4g capable radio. No SIM card changes that fact. Don't let the goons at the phone store fool you.

UMI Super 3G instead of 4G

Hi,
did anyone using Umi Super have any problems with using 4G at 800MHz? Im on giffgaff and even though Umi Super is supposed to work at 4G under 800MHz (thats what the specification states) i cant manage to make it work. I have perfect 4G coverage, 4G sim, 4G tariff, even gave my sim to a friend with S7 edge and it worked on his phone. Maybe new update will fix that? I tried with different sim from different operator (LYCA) and it works but 4G in LYCA is at 2100MHz so I didnt really check the 800. I tried everything and still nothing. Did anyone have similar problem?
I actually bought 2 phones of the same model so I decided to check if 4G worked on the other one and as I put the sim card in I just remembered something and realized same thing happened with my phone. When I put the SIM card in for the first time it DID automatically go to 4G, ok, when I looked for available networks it found O2 4G, granted BUT!!! when i got to "preferred network type" there is only 3G to pick, and THE MOMENT I PICK IT there is not possible to go back. Every network I find from that moment is only 2G or 3G. Now i reckon that a software problem right? See attachments
It is a software bug and I think I sort it out after flashing the phone. For now I sorted out the problem using Networks app by Philipp Mangalov and switching network to LTE/GSM auto
Well it seems the data part of the UMI SUPER is not so super, is it? I face a similar problem but worse. The 4G band of 800 doesn't work(despite being advertized by UMI as supported) but luckily the band of 2100 works without any issues. The problem comes when I'm out of 2100 band coverage and phone must switch to 3G - then I lose all data connectivity completely. So basically whenever I'm out of 4G 2100 coverage(which is often) I am without any connectivity! Anyone facing the same? Solution?

I don't have this issue at all. My UMi Super connects perfectly to my 4g network under 800MHz without an issue here in Uganda. You can install the MTK Engineering app from the play store and check the band compatibility on ur device and you can also set the mode using the same app under android settings.
You could also try updating to the latest OTA which is 20160810 or the one before it by downloading the files from forum post here and saving them to ur phone and updating manually if you don't have the current OTA

You need Giff Gaff settings in access point name. If you try and use O2 4g it doesn't work even though Giff Gaff uses O2 network. Settings are really easy to input but MUST be Giff Gaff not O2.

All that's needed is GiffGaff settings inputing manually. Very easy to do. O2 settings that the phone recognises when a GiffGaff sim is used WILL NOT WORK. The Network is O2 but the APN settings for GiffGaff are totally different.
All you guys that think you know what you're doing obviously don't.
No need to Root or use GravityBox or any other App.

Well said. I just shake my head in despair when I see how totally clueless people try to be teachers and Internet gurus with very limited knowledge about the task at hand. These comments should come with warning stickers.
For those who want to be able to switch between 3G/4G and LTE only, use this nifty little APK that I've attached below. It will allow you to enter engineer mode without using the dial code.
Hi
This is a bug implemented in Android 7.0.
I had the same.
1 Just force in your parameters 2G/3G networks
2 wait for network authentification (no more excalamtion mark)
3 go back to 4G
Every thing will be OK to next switch off or plane mode.
Rgds,
LTE band 7 (2600) not working
I recently received my new Umi Super and updated to the last firmware V7.01_20170413, everything works fine except for the 4G. I live in an area where band 7 (2600) is available but the phone can't connect to it. Of course, my preferred network type is set to 4G/3G/2G (auto).
I read a lot about the issue on the internet but I can't find a solution.
I checked the BandMode on the phone by dialing *#*#3646633#*#*, band 7 is included and checked. However, when I tried to remove the other LTE bands and keep only band 7, I got a message explaining that the list can't be empty ("Failed. The band is changed from not null to null, it is illegal"), though the list was not completely empty because band 7 was still selected.
Also, I tried to change the radio band by dialing *#*#4636#*#*, but process com.android.phone stopped working when I pressed "select radio band", even after I cleared cache in phone and sim apps.
Can anyone tell me how to fix the problem and get connected to 4G.
BTW, Network by Philipp Mangelow is not available anymore. Switching between 3G/2G and 4G/3G/2G settings doesn't fix the issue. I tried the giffgaff settings, but the APN gets deleted as soon as I try to save it.
Thanks

You may try to force 3G and then try to force 4G
You may try to user another IMEI number from a UMI device with 2600 support (of course backup/write down the original one before just in case)
http://www.ucc.co.ug/data/imei/2
After the update to Nougat 7.x how long does it take to do a full recharge?
Do you still have fast charge feature (< 1 hour) or do you lost it like all users reported so far?
What about your GPS? Do you have a fast fix after cleaning history and is it reliable (not losing signal often?).

Is it safe to change the IMEI number? and where can I find another number for a UMI device?
GPS is working fine, it fixes pretty fast, but I'm not sure about interruption in the signal because I haven't used it enough yet
