Hey.
We (the X8 user) are unfortunately not getting any multi touch.
Go here, and read line 10 (12 with the title)
http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/products/2011/02/01/next-update-for-the-xperia-x10-and-x8-family/
and this:
I have asked Sony Ericsson, if we get it, and i got this answer:
(Danish)
Kære Simon,
Tak for at du kontaktede Sony Ericsson Contact Center.
Det er desværre ikke planlagt nogen opdateringer til Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 som gør det muligt at bruge multitouch.

NEWS: ANT+ for Xperia x8

Sony Ericsson and ANT+ equals fitness with Xperia™ arc
Marcus Hansson explains more about ANT+.
At Sony Ericsson we are very pleased to announce that we will be the first mobile handset manufacturer to have integrated support for ANT+ technology. This means that you will be able to use your Sony Ericsson phone with a large number of commercial health and fitness products. For example, you can use your phone with a heart rate monitor, a pedometer, or both, when you are out running.
There are number of different ANT+ enabled sensors and devices available in the market today. In addition, there are a large number of ANT+ supported apps to collect, analyze, compare and share your data in various ways. These devices and apps can turn your Sony Ericsson handset into a main hub for fitness and health activities, as well as for communication and entertainment.
ANT+ is a seamless and reliable digital wireless communication standard with excellent power efficiency. It facilitates the collection, automatic transfer and tracking of sensor data for monitoring information. Today more and more companies are joining the ANT+ Alliance, which is a partner alliance striving for the growth of the ANT+ ecosystem. This ensures compatibility with other leading suppliers all throughout the ecosystem. With the release of Xperia™ arc, Sony Ericsson is the first handset manufacturer to have integrated support for ANT+. The ANT+ support will also be introduced in Sony Ericsson Xperia™ X8, Xperia™ X10 mini, and Xperia™ X10 mini pro through software upgrades in Q1 2011. Several future Sony Ericsson Android™ devices will also support ANT+ technology.
Stay tuned to the Sony Ericsson Developer blog and to Sony Ericsson’s Developer World for more information. You can also read more on the ANT+ web site.

As said in the video, "… and X8 will have this enabled in the forthcoming software upgrade in Q1 2011"
Could this be part of an Android upgrade? Or do they by "software upgrade" refer to apps? Either way, it's a cool feature.
We need 2.3 for that so we will get android update.
I think because this writing in SE blog.
Yeeeee they are chance that we will get 2.3 but when?
Who cares .. it's completely useless and sony will not deliver froyo on their phones.
Anyone still owning xperia, google "ZTE Blade" :
1. unlocked bootloader
2. froyo and custom roms
3. amoled screen
4. costs $100
Oh, and the best one :
5. NOT MADE BY Erics****!
no froyo for Xperia!

Do you mean that Ant+ requires Android 2.3 to run? Because of Xperia ARC, which uses 2.3 to run Ant+?

Lolz. We don't even have ZTE Blade where I live.
Hopefully this "software upgrade" will have to include an Android update, too.
Btw, Xperia users, join this community on Facebook:
"Petition: Android 2.2 (Froyo) for Sony Ericsson Xperia series"
I would like to highlight that all the news regarding the discontinuance of Froyo (Android 2.2) is related to the X10 FAMILY and X10 HANDSETS.
X8 does not belong to this family or these handsets, does it? Furthermore, the upcoming ANT+ feature will come to X10 mini, X10 mini pro and X8 - SE again, specifically, omitted the X10! The ANT+ feature will become available through a "software upgrade"!
They are either being unclear about the way they announce things or they are being VERY specific.

The x8 DOES belong to the x10 family, its seen as the mid size/range x10... if you bothered to read the first line from the article linked above about an official announcement from SE UK, you'd see yourself...
Sony Ericsson UK have officially confirmed with us this morning that the Xperia X10 family (including the X8) will not see an Android firmware revision above 2.1)

They'll do an update to 2.1 to make this ANT+ feature work, they wouldn't announce no further updates past 2.1, but secretly be developing 2.2 etc for the x10 family of handsets, its bad for business if they do...
We wont b getting 2.2 or 2.3 whatsoever, juz an update in the future n we will still on 2.1..
Accept the truth my frens, we will stuck on 2.1 forever.. Thts it, no more SE phones for me..
Yeah, SE confirm no more update new FW for X10 family and no hope for X8, epic fail....
we arent stuck. sometime someone will crack ****ed se loader and we will get froyo..
p.s. i think there wont be gingerbread coz it will run too slow.. recomended hardware is 1GHz cpu..

I haven't seen/been able to dig up any information directly from Sony Ericsson that mentions the X8. It only seems to be mentioned in the article you refer to.
Regardless of that … If the X8 is considered part of the X10 family then we are truly screwed.
However, I am curious regarding the Ant+ feature. Why did they omit the X10 specifically in their announcement? I find it odd that the X10 - supposedly - doesn't support the hardware for Ant+ but the X10 mini, X10 mini pro and X8 does.

HTC WILDFIRE will be getting gingerbread and it has a 600 mhz processor!
This isnt fer anymore
SE don't want to update their current android phones because of marketing.
people will have to buy xperia arc to get android 2.3. good for their bussiness. this is how it's work.
Here what i think.
Many people has buyed many xperia smartphones but the xperia arc isnt like other xperia phones because they are cheap but xperia arc isnt.
What happen to us that will scare customers to so maybe they give update.
MAYBE!

Past Phones/Present Phones/Future Phones

Today's thread is a discussion thread about the phones you had previously, the ones you have now and the ones you will have in the future or you want to have.
Also why you have bought a certain phone?
What is your favorite feature of it?
If you get a new phone one day what phone will it be?
What happened to the phone? Did it explode? Did someone steal it? or did you sell it?
Will it have features not possible yet? like holograms, 8 cores, flexible screen etc...
And many more questions
Well previously i had Sony Ericssons phones. My first was Sony Ericsson T290 (it had screen with colors ), then I had SE T700 (good phone, very slim- around 5mm-, with ExtremeBASS headphones, it was great for me that time, but one day screen just died ), then i used SE V640i for some time... Then i bought Nokia 5230 (It had touchscreen ).
After that i bought my X8. And i have 11w19 device so unlocked bootloader and cypress touchscreen I bougt it beacuse i wanted cheap phone with Android OS. And yeah i m happy with it.
I will keep it till it dies Then i ll probably buy some Xperia 2012 phone if it won t be very expensive

My first phone as a Motorola Talkabout series that i don't remember the model, after it i had a Nokia 2280,a Motorola W220,and after only Sony Ericsson's:W300,W302,W395,Xperia X8.
My first phone was the SE W300 if im correct. Great compact little phone, cheap to . Then it just went on to this device so its my second real phone. Its the most awesome phone ever. But the lousy support for "past phones" is making me consider never to buy a budget phone from SE ever again.

Only because Sony supported one phone now Xda is saying this.
i see no problem...
' For all the naysayers about Sony, they’ve been one of the few manufacturers to continue to support their older phones.'
There is the X10 Mini, X10 Pro and X8 as well none of them were supported.
The X10 is the only phone which Sony did support

[Devices receiving Sony ICS Update] Sorry/Not for X10

Hey Forum,
Just to let you know, a few days ago Sony posted on their site that they will be releasing ICS for their Xperia Devices, But the X10 is not listed and thus is presumed will not be getting the upgrade to ICS.
Devices being upgraded to ICS are:
Xperia NXT:
Xperia S, Xperia P, Xperia U

I think they should release some sort of source or an update to help out the developers who are currently working on a custom CM9 ICS for the X10.
What are your thoughts?
