Hey Forum,
Just to let you know, a few days ago Sony posted on their site that they will be releasing ICS for their Xperia Devices, But the X10 is not listed and thus is presumed will not be getting the upgrade to ICS.
Devices being upgraded to ICS are:
Xperia NXT:
Xperia S, Xperia P, Xperia U

I think they should release some sort of source or an update to help out the developers who are currently working on a custom CM9 ICS for the X10.
What are your thoughts?
Peace

Wow, can't believe no one's blaring klaxxons about this yet....
In short, the X10 will be getting OFFICIAL CM7 support from the Cyanogenmod team... with nightlies, a forum over at cyanogenmod.com,and possibly even official MIUI (since miui is built on cm).
Here you go:
The CyanogenMod and FreeXperia team is happy to announce CyanogenMod support for multiple Xperia™ devices.
Users of Sony Ericsson devices have been left out of the CyanogenMod experience for a while now. We are happy to announce that users will be able to enjoy a full-fledged CyanogenMod with nearly full hardware support (we are still working on FM radio) starting in our next release. You can also expect nightly builds and more instructions soon.
The following devices will be supported:
2011 lineup:
Xperia™ arc
Xperia™ neo
Xperia™ mini
Xperia™ mini pro
Xperia™ PLAY
Xperia™ ray
Xperia™ active (when available)
Xperia™ pro (when available)
Older lineup:
Xperia™ X10
Xperia™ X8
Xperia™ X10 mini
Xperia™ X10 mini pro
Andreas Makris (Bin4ry), Diogo Ferreira (defer) and Alin Jerpelea (jerpelea) will be maintaining these devices from now on.
We would like to stress that work on the 2011 lineup would not have been possible without the strong involvement of Sony Ericsson with the developer community. In addition to providing unlockable bootloaders to all new devices, they provided us both with devices and technical expertise that proved invaluable in making all this happen.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY, Xperia neo, Xperia mini and mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active and the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman would get the update between April end and early May.

Bad news guys. SE delayed the update for the phones. Now we have to wait another month or two.
Really sad and bad news for all 2011 Xperia owners.
Sony just confirmed that the update to Android 4.0 ICS will not start at end of March or early April for Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray and end of April or early May for Xperia Arc, Xperia Play, Xperia Neo, Xperia Mini, Xperia Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, Xperia active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman.
It will now start from mid-April 2012 for Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray and from end of May or early June for Xperia Arc, Xperia Play, Xperia Neo, Xperia Mini, Xperia Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, Xperia active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman.
For the new flagship Xperia S they didn’t even say a month, just that it’ll be updated “from the later part of the second quarter”.
That means the users might have to wait untill June 2011.
I thought about getting a Xperia S, but now I think I won’t. What do you guys thing about that late release for the Xperia S?
And as always the update will only be available via PC Companion and SEUS and not via OTA.
Sony only pushes out small Android updates like from 2.3.2 to 2.3.3 out via OTA.

Already 2 threads, most obviously is this one.
Sony just revealed that remaining 2011 xperia smartphone will get upgraded to ICS 4.0.4 next week, except Xperia PLAY(poor u) in order not to affect gaming performance.
NXT series will get the upgrade in the order of S, P, and then U.
Now, we are happy to confirm that the remaining 2011 smartphones; Xperia arc, Xperia neo, Xperia mini, Xperia mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman will start to receive their updates starting from next week.
This software upgrade will be Android version 4.0.4 and the good news is that this latest version will also be made available for Xperia arc S, Xperia ray and Xperia neo V users, who received Android 4.0.3 the first time around.
In regards to Xperia PLAY, after extensive in house testing with our developer teams and working with our partners, we have concluded that a consistent and stable experience, particularly with gaming, cannot be guaranteed for this smartphone on Ice Cream Sandwich – therefore, we will not make the Android 4.0 upgrade available for Xperia PLAY.

Thanks for giving such a great news..
yea.. i saw xperia s running 4.0.4 few days ago..it was damn smooth though..
I was wondering the same question how will Sony fix the gaming problem on ICS for the Xperia play? And there is the answer may it be just for now, no ICS for play until the gaming problem is solved. Great news for my Arc S
is there any particular date for ics to come???
and thnxxxx for the news
bec just had a rom of android 4.0.4 and now only i had put the stock .62 fw for the ics
And Gud news is tat 4.0.4 wil be available for Arc S, Neo V and Ray which got a buggy 4.0.3 update. ;-)

Finally! I've been waiting for this for a while now and was jealous of the arc S, which received the ICS update earlier.
I'm hoping for a 'smooth' experience with 4.0.4. Any idea if we'd be getting a newer kernel?

I really hope they fix the touchscreen issues. And the gaming issues too.

probably this is the decision made by sony and the game vendors
This decision was also verified when we received similar feedback from the developer community; both experienced developers and advanced users, along with game content providers following our ICS beta ROM for unlocked Xperia PLAY smartphones.

previously sony said ICS will still run with the obsolete kernel 2.6.32 in order to release ICS as quickly as possible in January. i just hope after 4-5 months of development they can release a 3.0 kernel in the near future.
we also see xperia s running ICS with 3.0.8 kernel, hope Sony or some skilled developer could port it to xperia arc?
It is rather quick to get a new kernel up and running, but it takes a lot of testing and validation to make it stable and run with the modem, get a good battery performance etc. Quite some effort has been put in to the Sony Ericsson 2.6.32 kernel, to make it as stable and reliable as possible for the 8255 platform, and we do not feel that the user benefit of a new kernel would justify a later release date.

I think if they certify a release for the Arc S then it can include the Arc, and vice-versa.
They should atleast then give us the sources of the final stock ICS kernel...

You're gonna be waiting a while
I have Lollipop on my Nexus 5 and my Nexus 7(2013), To be honest. I liked the look and feel of KitKat better.
This material design or whatever they call it feels just like they wanna look like windoz8.

actually i agree with you. "Played" a bit with Lollypop in Nexus 6 and 9 devices. Yes, it's nice, but i didn't feel that it's revolution as was advertised. There are new features of course, but seems that majority of them are interface design (material) changes.
So in general it seems an evolution to KitKat, like iOS 8 to iOS 7. But KitKat with xposed framework and a few other mods&tweaks, i reckon it can be as functional as Lollipop.
So no extra passion to get lollipop to tabz as soon as possible.

I agree as well, it seems Sony has decided to customise AOSP very minimally, so don't expect many differences between the Nexus 7 and the sony software

Xperia Tablet Z forum is almost dead... nobody is craving for lollipop
So, WHERE IS OUR LOLLIPOP?????
Do you guys know if we can install the ota lollipop update if we have root? Or do we have to flash the full rom using emma?

Just wait for a Pre Rooted ROM
I guess we have to wait and see.
However, seeing that the OTA fails on rooted Nexus devices since 5.0.1 , I highly doubt you can OTA update other rooted devices above 5.0.1 either. So it'll probably be the good'ol "unroot, update, re-root"
But hey. I might be wrong.
As far as I can remember, there was no OTA for any of the previous versions for the Tablet Z. You have to update via their PC software, so it just sort of "dirty flashes" the system on top, overwriting your kernel and removing root that way.
So far I can see that Z3, Z3 compact, Z2, Z1 and Z1 compact got the update, so we're next
