iDisplay - Xoom General

Hey guys,
iDispay was just released for android. It's an app that lets you use your phone/tablet as a monitor for your pc/mac. I immediately went to install this on my rooted nook color running honeycomb but it says "this item is not compatible with your device." So, I'm wondering if you guys can install it on your xoom's. You should be able to tell just by visiting the android market page. You won't have to buy it tell. If you can't install it, your device will be greyed out. Also, it wouldn't show up in the market on your xoom. I'm wondering because there's a high probability that this is just a problem with the nook(it's not even supposed to have the market), but it might not be. I figured the xoom is the product the most similar to a nook running HC right(obviously the nook doesn't quite compare but still). Thanks for your help.

Its in the market but when I click buy it says error from server.

How I got to buy apps on the Xoom wifi

Hi,
When I got the Xoom wifi I was hoping to see all apps, free and paid and be able to purchase them. But as I found out, living in the caribbean doesn't allow me to view tablet apps and paid/purchase apps.
Basically this is what I did. It seems to work sometimes, but enough that I was able to get all apps I wanted. Even purchased quite a few. Basically this is what I did and hopefully it can help some of you out there.
1.I rooted my Hero and installed and enabled market enabler. I also opened the market and surfed around a bit. Left market open.
2a.On my PC using a VPN connection I surfed to market and was able to see tablet optimized apps section and purchase apps.
b.In some cases it would not allow me to send the installation to the xoom. So I send it to my Hero and make a backup using Atro. At the same time I put another VPN connection on the rooted Xoom wifi and installed "Paid Apps enabler" and set it to T-mobile. When I installed the APK, market would detect either an update or the tablet version and all would be fine.
Note: noticed that sometimes it would not allow me to purchase on the PC, so I would close the browser and surf a bit in the market on the Hero. Restart the browser on the PC and it would start working again.
I know this is confusing and a bit difficult, but it seems to work fine. Really hope there is a much easier method for us international users. Also as many have mentioned market enabler doesn't work with the wifi xoom.

I haven't rooted my WiFi xoom as I'm expecting the imminent update so I can't tell if adding a proxy works.
I live in China and it's been bothering me like hell that I can't purchase any paid or country/carrier restricted app in the market, such as kindle, google earth etc.. I have tried factory restored the xoom, disabled any location service and set up a US VPN before starting the market app, still no luck. I wonder how Google managed to determine that my location was not in the States. However I rooted another MZ604 and used market enabler which did work in terms carrier restricted app, didn't try the paid app because it's not mine.
I'm hoping the update will fix this issue for WiFi only xoom. If it doesn't I will root it and try your way. Thanks for the info!

Yes, a server issue. They stated it will be back on line in a few hours.
Anyone have any luck? I tried to dl it, but it said I don't have an Android device. So I loaded it to my Droid & dropped it into my dropbox. Now I have the Swype loder installed on my Xoom, but it's telling me there's a network problem and it won't find the mama ship.

How did you get it to work? When I try it just says your device is not an Android phone, is there a trick?
Not sure, I already had the installer on my xoom. I just ran the installer, updated installer, and then downloaded swype. I am pretty sure that they only allow it to be installed on 2 devices too.

Just downloaded the installer and then installed it, its not bad. Not as nice looking as the stock keyboard but a decent alternative, used it to type this post!

If anyone is having issues where installer says disable swype and you do, but its not seeing it....use root explorer and just delete swype apk and it will all work.
One nice feature is that you can make keyboard smaller and then move the keyboard to wherever you want, allowing it to be used with one thumb. I like it and have been waiting for this since I got my zoom.

That allowed me to download the installer, but as soon as I try to login in the installer app, it says there was a data error, likely due to a bad network connection. I know I have a good wifi connection. Anyone else getting this? I have a non-activated vzw model

Nah, you have to buy the new OS on the Mac App Store for $30. Great deal in my opinion compared to Windows 7 Prices ($200+ jeezus!)
@Korey, what's 10.7.2? Isn't it the dev release of the new update or something?

I'll start by saying I've been Snow Leopard as long as I've had the Epic.
You trying to connect through a Cinema Display? When I connect my Epic to the monitor (24 inch with 3 usb ports) it never mounts, but if I connect it straight to the MacPro it does. Never been able to figure that one out, but I've found that to be the case. Real PITA because all of the USB ports on the MacPro and both Cinema Displays are used - although one of the ports on the display is used on a handy charging cable for the phone.
That said I've never had trouble mounting on Windows, straight to my PC or through a hub.
I think it's just a problem between Macs and our phone.
Sidenote - sometimes when I connect my Epic to the Cinema Display it causes a freak out and the Mac says a device was trying to draw too much current so it disconnects the hub inside the Cinema display which disconnects all connected peripherals, the webcam, and the speakers until I disconnect the screen's USB cable from the back of the tower and reconnect. Anyone have a clue how to prevent this?

If anyone figures out how to mount their phone please reply in this thread.
Thx!
You guys had any luck getting this working? I have the same issue ... Running Cyanogenmod 7 on my HTC Desire.
Same here as well. although. I noticed the my Mac Book pro that gave with 10.7 doesn't read my epic as a mass storage device. But when I plug it into a friends mac book pro that was upgraded from 10.6 to 10.7 detects mass storage just fine.
I downloaded, and installed a update for Kies, but that didn't seem to do anything either ( i have rebooted yet, will up date this post if it works after a reboot.).
If anyone figures this out please update this thread.
Fix
Shutdown you Mac, boot into safe mode. Press and hold shift key after the chime when you power on your mac. You will know that you're in safe mode because only programs that came with Lion will boot. Fully boot into Lion, then restart back into regular mode. Connect your phone, turn on USB mass storage mode. Should be working now. Apparently the issue has to do with corrupt driver cache.
$30 every year vs. $250 every 5 years, both companies are about the same just one releases quicker and gets ya for small chunks when your not looking

Kindle Fire UK Root & Update?

Hi
I have been reading this forum today and haven't managed to find an answer that is 100% confirmed.
I am close to buying a Kindle Fire and live in the UK.
If I buy it can I unlock it with the Boritto unlock if it is version 6.2.2 or does it only work if I was in the US? I read something that suggests I need to be in the US to do this.
Also, is there a proven way for me to block Amazon from forcing an update to the device?
Many thanks

Assuming there is nothing stopping you from downloading burrito root I can't imagine what location would have to do with rooting it. I believe there are a few different methods that people have tried though I cannot speak to how well they work. Easiest way to guarantee amazon doesn't update it is to flash a non-amazon rom lol, but as I said others may know more regarding killing OTA
Really? So you think its as simple as putting a ROM on i.e. CM7, something that isn't stock and the update won't get through?
If so that sounds pretty simple...

Let's put it this way, I bought my kindle in late december; amazon pushed an update, I've never once seen
Flash cm9/cm7/miui once rooted. and you wont see updates from amazon.
Thanks guys that's really good news. It would be pointless for me to keep standard as I wouldn't get any amazon services being in the UK.
Next question, how are you finding the tablet with a flashed ROM, is it smooth running with no issues?

i bought my kindle preordered last november. in a couple of weeks (no custom rom atm) i just use stock rom with minimum tweak. as expected amazon market is useless even if we using us ID. apart of that, all went well until i installed custom rom; cm7. so far so good. i can run most of my fav apps, listening to music, hd video and other simple browsing and reading.
stock adw launcher is a tittle bit sluggish so i just use launcherpro which performing as it should without any hiccup.

I lived in Saudi Arabia and I bought mine in December last year 2011. I rooted it and install CM7 just after I received it. Currently I am using CM9 (ics) in daily bases with no problem. For sure, I do have a complete backup of the original stock ROM, if I need to go back.

Even though you live outside U.S you can still enjoy the different amazon services like videos & app market search for "World Wide Kindle Fire" in the android market.
Those services are the added value of this device, don't give up on it .

Also the reviews seem a bit mixed, lots saying or doesn't work. It must be problems with the server...

The unroot, root process takes less then a second...
The app use several different servers, so if one server doesn't work you can always switch to the next one... also you can enter your own proxy server manually.

How do you get ICS only Apps on the Fire?

If I put ICS on my Kindle, how do I get 4.0 specific apps on there? Right now I use my android phone that runs 2.3 to access the play store, then I backup and install on the fire.
I dont think my ZTE99 phone can run ICS but if it can, will Google Play recognize this and allow me to download ICS apps?

If you put ICS on your Kindle, you'd need to flash the Google Apps which will give you the Play Store. So you wouldn't have to deal with the backing up mess.
Google won't let you download apps designed for ICS on older OS versions. Nor will it let you install them.

Yeah I know. I thought there was a work-around or some sort of app repository that no one discusses in the open.
Why use some shady repository when you can get it from the play store?
I use this sometimes. Not sure if it is considered shady or not. Only found out about it in order to get google maps onto my stock fire.

If you install CM9, then you can just download anything from the Play store as your device will be treated just like a standard Android tablet.

I know im a bit late for the party, but i use this site ( http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Latest_Version/Google_Apps) to install the playstore. It has a list of the different cyanogenmods and which gapps is best for it. Just download, then install with twrp. Reboot and download whatever you want from the playstore. Some apps say that you cant install them, do to you device and others because of your location. I dont know how to fix the local one. But with your device, check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cssyIE4maZY

That is because a lot of those apps use frameworks/APIs that are no longer in ICS.
