How do you get ICS only Apps on the Fire? - Kindle Fire General

If I put ICS on my Kindle, how do I get 4.0 specific apps on there? Right now I use my android phone that runs 2.3 to access the play store, then I backup and install on the fire.
I dont think my ZTE99 phone can run ICS but if it can, will Google Play recognize this and allow me to download ICS apps?

what apps are u referring to?

If you put ICS on your Kindle, you'd need to flash the Google Apps which will give you the Play Store. So you wouldn't have to deal with the backing up mess.
Google won't let you download apps designed for ICS on older OS versions. Nor will it let you install them.

All the apps in the play store that say "Not available for your device" My cell phone runs 2.3. A lot of these gingerbread apps wont work on ICS. Source: user reviews for just about every gingerbread app.

Yeah I know. I thought there was a work-around or some sort of app repository that no one discusses in the open.

Why use some shady repository when you can get it from the play store?

I use this sometimes. Not sure if it is considered shady or not. Only found out about it in order to get google maps onto my stock fire.

If you install CM9, then you can just download anything from the Play store as your device will be treated just like a standard Android tablet.

I know im a bit late for the party, but i use this site ( http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Latest_Version/Google_Apps) to install the playstore. It has a list of the different cyanogenmods and which gapps is best for it. Just download, then install with twrp. Reboot and download whatever you want from the playstore. Some apps say that you cant install them, do to you device and others because of your location. I dont know how to fix the local one. But with your device, check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cssyIE4maZY
Of course he is talking about getting games to run, but its the same with accessing apps on the market.

That is because a lot of those apps use frameworks/APIs that are no longer in ICS.

Amazon Appstore and Android/Google Market

Does anyone know if it's possible to link the android/google market with the Amazon appstore or visa versa.

I know that, but when I go to update my application is there no way of the android market knowing that I've downloaded application from another source. They both basically have the same applications
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Why would one update an app bought from the other? If you are buying from both you must have both market apps on your device, right? So together all your apps are being updated.
Don't really see the issue here.

Try to install the app from Amazon and then use Titanium Backup's "Market Doctor", it might work
Nah that won't work for paid apps. It'll show as installed in the Market, but if you try and update via the Market you'll be prompted to pay.

Exactly. I tried this with setcpu apk installed. But was prompted to pay before I could get the update.

did you then have a problem whereby market was always prompting for an update for an app you had bought via amazon? if so, how do you stop market banging on about an app you cant update?
Use Titanium Backup to break the market link.

[Q] other MARKETS on CM7.2 or CM9

Can I get different market apps like the original nook market he adroid market and other markets on my CM 7.2 or my CM9 ?!
besides the regular android market? where can I get apps and games from!?
Thanks!!
You can get Amazon or Getjar as alternative appstores but you cannot use BN's own AppStore on a CM install.

Why will the android market work, but not the b&n store... is it harder to hack? Different system? Incompatible?

B&N store is proprietary store: it will only work for NCs with the stock (B&N-specific) ROM installed. Once you install any CM, you're no longer using B&N OS, and cannot access the B&N store (unless you Dual boot, in which case you can access B&N store when you're booted into whatever partitions contain the B&N OS).
If you're already on CM, why would you want to keep using the B&N store anyway? It's severely limited, some apps are priced more, and the Android Market has so much more variety.
I doubt you want the BN store for its apps since it was mentioned that they are more expensive and limited. If you want it for the book buying, just download the nook app from the market and at the top you access the BN store.

I have a question about my SGT p1000 running CM 9
I recently got the CM 9 on my p1000 and it is unbelievably amazing! I figured out how to get the original google apps package and flash it onto the device, but I have a question about the apps. On the Play Store(both the app and through the browser, even though it gives me a list of apps that i have installed on my p1000, I obviously do not have those apps on the device as I wiped all user data post the flash. So my question is how do I make the Play Store realize that I do not have those apps it shows as "My Android Apps" on my device and I need to re-download and re-install them? Thank You.

Thank you, it works on RCMixS (android 2.3.3)
It is very smooth on cyanogen. But i bet it'll lag a bit on sense roms.
Play Market, silly name. Sounds more like a toy shop.
I've had some problems connecting to and downloading apps using mobile data on Sandvold ICS. Using WiFi usually works.
Here is version 3.4.7 (just check OP's version 3.4.6).
Hope OP doesn't mind I post the updated version here.

That's exactly what I thought when the name and icon changed to "Play Shop" unexpectedly. I thought perhaps they were launching a seperate one just for games and entertainment, keeping apps seperate or something.
It's smooth on Redux 1.2

The new market is absolutely brilliant! Great smooth transitions and elegant graphics! ICS Style baby!
Why google play says "your device isn't compitable with this item" when looking Death rally (free)? Tried already to clear market (google play) data and cache but that didn't help.

Yes Google Play is more fast than Android Market. But he's capricious with Market Link

Supports Google Play Store 3.5.15. Please note: Play Store is capricious with Market links because it relies more on Google's servers. If you want more control we encourage you to ask Google. It's their app. Let them know the goal you want to achieve. Once they provide a way, we'll give you full control of it!

The only missing feature to the website is the installed applications on the device (from GPlay...).

New to kindle but experienced in android

Alright so I got my kindle fire yesterday and my immediate plan was to root it and flash the jandycane Rom everyone was talking about, so I read some threads about rooting this thing. But I then read flashing a any Rom would basicially defeat the purpose of a the kindle part and basically turn it in to an android tablet. And yes ive looked and searched, I'm not a noob so don't flame me. I just want to know what rom I could flash and keep the kindle properties and amazon properties.
Thank you, kole

Check out the MoDaCo ROM. It is the stock ROM, but has the Play Store preinstalled, so also gives you the functionality and choice of a normal tablet with as well as access to Amazon's services.

Thanks, I have the kindle app on my phone so I saw my books are backed up and can connect to the kindle store as well. So could I install jandycane and use the kindle app to still use kindle gift cards to buy books? Sorry for the questions, ive only had this thing for less than 24 hrs
EDIT: I guess if it would work to keep my books stored then I could just use my Pc to add the kindle gift cards

You mean you dual-boot? I've heard bad things about it, so I'm just using the kindle app, however I do have the Jandycane ROM and use other apps like the Kobo app, the Aldiko app, and the Google Books app so I have access to many sources of books.

Bad things? The only downside I've had is you have to split storage for two ROMS. But I still have plenty of room left.

I meant there's a certain amount of risk that the whole thing might be messed up during partitioning.
But both ROMs are installed on the system partition right? Rather than the sdcard partition?

That's true for everything you do to modify the Kindle. It's not too hard to do.

common APK files for sideloading

I know people are always looking for apk files to sideload on their KF specially Google apps. I've started a page where I have posted those common files. I'm also willing to add more upon request. Just leave a comment on the blog post page. This is for free apps only and is not meant to get around paid apps in anyway. http://androidcowboy.com/android-apk-files-download/
This is awesome!
THX :good:
I've downloaded and installed the Play store. When I open it, it gives me a popup informing me an account needs to be connected in order to use it. I click yes to set up my account, and the app shuts down. Any ideas?

You probably don't have Google framework installed. Use KFU (Kindle fire utility) to do that. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399889 Questions welcome.
Thanks Cowboy - useful stuff
I use Android Drawer since it has mostly All Free Apps, that are essential for Android Users. Its got over 50,000+ apps, only free though, no warez. I use it all the time for sideloading when I am at Stock, and most are update as soon as updates roll up.

Hi, great thread. My daughter is getting a Kindle Fire for Christmas and I will be setting it up before the big day (well Santa obviously does that). I specifically want to add Google Play Music as I have just signed up for All Access, what additional APKs will I need to be able to sign in?

I think you'll need Google Play Services, and Google Play Framework if you're aren't rooting. Also, I am not sure but I think All Access is for Android 4.0+, but I am not sure though.
