UPDATED: Verizon rep did NOT install Flash on Xoom - Xoom General

A friend with a xoom has a data problem and took his xoom to a verizon store to try and settle the issue. When he was there the clerk told him that flash was available and installed it for him. I have not seen it to verify it. Anyone else hear of this?

When did this happen?

Roughly 3pm PST. My friend is not tech savvy, bought the xoom and is experiencing early adopter syndrome for the first time. He bought the xoom on contract and in 4 days consumed almost 70% of the monthly allowance. He went to the Verizon store to get some sort of explanation. He called me as he was leaving and told me that he was relatively heated and the verizon rep, apparently trying to keep him happy in some way, told him that adobe had updated the flash and released it today, and installed it along with advanced task killer while he was in the store.
I didn't want to try and find out for certain if flash was really installed or if the store is blowing smoke, but I'll check when I see him at work tomorrow. I'm not surprised that a verizon rep installed task killer, but was a bit surprised to him him say they'd installed flash because, aside from what little I've told him about flash, he is not familiar enough with it to repeat what he claims the rep told him. Just wanted to see if anyone else had encountered this information and if it is for real.

lol task killer? bad news. Task killers are terrible. Maybe good if hes a novice and is running all kinds of weird ****. He's better off learning what to do and uninstalling that task killer imho.
Very interesting about the flash update though. Wonder if the verizon guy installed it to make him happy and he shouldnt have?

Get us the .apk for us plz thx

I wonder if this is at all possible that flash is going to be available soon. I turned on my work laptop today and first thing that popped up was an update for Flash to 10.2. If I'm not mistaken, isn't this the version of Flash we are supposed to get for the Xoom?

Yup. 10.2 is the one we're waiting for, though they have never promised simultaneous cross-platform release, AFAIK.

I'm at work now - he should be here shortly and i'll update once I check it out. I agree on the task killer - unneeded bloatware but am very curious to see how flash looks if indeed he did get it instaleed yesterday.

see if you can verify the flash verison. i tried to installed tegra optimized version a while back for Notion Ink Adam which work perfectly fine, which had .120 in its build number. but it didnt work for xoom.
anyway! if it's a newer version, back it up with astro file manager and upload it!!

OP, if you've confirmed that this was all bogus, could you please update the title of the thread so as not to give others the wrong impression? Thanks!

I bet the rep install Flash Showcase for him and told him he had Flash 10.2

sales rep are usually less informed than us novice users. when a Verizon retailer told me she had a whole day training on this device, i chuckled. TRAINING lol.... couldnt even tell me how to charge it properly or anything about the android market appearance. The only thing they could help me is setup my google account on my xoom.

I felt the same way about the training Best Buy employees received. They were very exicited about the device and most of them had either played around with one or knew a little about it but none of them received any real training about how to activate them or even how to enter the sale into their system.
It was a very frustrating experience that could have been made better if the employees had been trained better, I don't blame any of the employees they were pleasent and apologetic about not knowing how to do what they needed to do I blame the management that failed to make sure their employees had the information they needed and frankly walked past them all morning as they stumbled around trying to deal with it without even stopping to ask what the issue was.

This one isn't for Android.

OTA's are staged out in batches, not all at once. T-Mobile has sold about a million of these phones at this point (given that Samsung claims 3 million SGS Phones sold in the U.S. this is entirely likely). They are most definitely NOT going to update a million phones at the same time.
The update for YOU could come now, tomorrow, next week, or before the end of the month. Sitting here in a thread hitting refresh hoping for vital info about the OTA is a complete waste of time.
You have four options...
1). Wait for the OTA, which will arrive whenever it arrives
2). Frankin Twiz, built on JI6
3). Bionix 1.6, built on JI6
4). leaked unmodified JI6 firmware
Options 2,3,4 will get you JI6 today, with the associated risks of taking the management of the update into your hands. Option 1 is the official option which requires nothing but patience. Decide.
Wonder if I could call T-mobile and naively ask about a GPS problem and see if they will go ahead and push JI6 to me?
Nope nothing in WA I sure hope I won't have to wait til the end of the month....

Ha! You think customer care or tech care have that much power? The people in tmo who do, ssg data, don't take any calls and if they want to, never actually have to talk to the customer at all. They work solely on trouble tickets and work orders. The highest you may get by calling tech is atsg, the people who submit trouble tickets to them.

Did you have lagfix installed? That could be the problem.
On another note, why are so many people waiting patiently for the OTA? Just flash one of the leaks. Bionix 1.6 is well worth it! And you can always ODIN back to stock!

I got off the phone with tech support at T Mobile a few hours ago and here is what they related to me. Your inability to get checkin succeeded may or may not be usual or normal, they have no clue and the OTA is scheduled to run from 10-7 thru 10-31. has anyone else or does anyone else have the same inability to get feedback from the checkin code? This is the only phone I have had that the checkin failed to register except for a MT3g which they promptly replaced.
got the update today... no problems so far...

I gave up on samsung updating us a while ago. I know this doesn't mean much, but I was at a verizon store the other day so for the hell of it I asked when we were getting our froyo update. He blatantly said "you're not getting it." At least I know I can count on the awesome devs to unleash the true potential of this phone. Thank you kaos, jt, birdman, geeknik, adrynalyne, sonofskywalker, and anyone else I forgot. You guys are awesome

Verizon released Froyo for the Fascinate yesterday, but they just won't give it to you. Why? We're not sure. Maybe you didn't pay your bill on time, or maybe they're prejudiced against people with {insert your hair color here} hair. They can be pretty capricious that way.

Try to get a new phone.

Last week my wife and I went to a sprint store because her moment was having problems. The person there offered her a different phone but out of the list her phone was the best. I have read about people getting different phone by complaining about the epic and with all of its problem. I do have insurence on my phone. I was wondering what people think my chance of getting a differnt phone is? I have had it replaced once. I have been really happy with the dev community here and if samsung had programmers half as good as the ones here we would see ICS on our phone by the end of the year. Also does anyone know what the other phone options are available for a replacement for the epic?

it depends on the manager at the time. when my samsung moment was going out(which has flash) non of the phones offered did. i begged, just poked my head in 3 times a week to see if they chagned the list. i know i bugged, but if i wanted no flash i would have stuck with my treo 755p.
in short it really depends who is there help you, if you complain, the squeaking wheel gets the oil first as my dad says.
i went from moment to transform btw

Did adobe rewrite flash player to support the Samsung moment? I'm 100% sure that the moment's chipset does not support flash that's why I got an epic. But html5 works fine on the moment which I found out about 2 months ago.
but if flash does work can you post a link to where you got flash from? I searched on sdx and they all confirmed flash doesn't work.
If I remember correctly it will work, just not ideally. The jit compiler was not optimized for Flash support on Eclair, but it would function. This is all fuzzy, someone please correct me if necessary.

So why us Sprint detecting I'm in mikfroyo 4.62

Anyone know why when I tried to open a network support ticket they are detecting I'm on a mikfroyo rom. I changed Roms so many times the past 6months.. so what the hell is up with that:
They even said you have to be on a official Rom.. man how they detect this info is pretty funny. And how wrong it is.
But any way to fix that issue
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Why do you think they would give you support when you voided your warranty by rooting and installing another ROM?
I mean seriously...
I don't need support. I do wish to inform them of their network problem here... If so I have 8 other people with Sprint who are official.. who can report the network problem aswell ... Why would I need support if my phone is perfectly fine. And besides the fact I'm not running the Rom they are indicating I am...

They're not going to waste their time with a problem that could be the result of a modded phone.

You only voided your warranty with HTC, not sprint. I've taken my rooted/S-OFF device many times and have talked to the store reps and they have no policy against rooted devices. There is stores that will give you a hassle just to be lazy, meanwhile other stores will ask you to simply flash back to stock to help narrow down issues caused by software or hardware.
Oh so a version from stock that just has apps removed that ate considered bloated. So that can be a phone error. Dude I've flashed many roms kernels and radios and its the network. I'm not after phone support. I don't need a warranty on my Damn phone but I pay them for service via their towers if they have issues with it then they should fix their network problems. I will pay insurion if I have phone issues its why I have them.

I used to Run Mikfroyo but the thing is I don't know how they know I was on a custom rom. Maybe when provision your phone it sends that data. Now I'm On a different rom but i was unaware how he knew. The guy *PinkElmo* basically just said to go back to stock ROM for the duration of the testing (sounds like he not only not has a problem with it but sounds like he uses custom as wellXD).
I'm still puzzled as to how they found out...

I had to provision a few months back though... But It Got me wondering. I have been downloading a stock rom at 199mb it should take roughly 2-8 hours on the Sprints NOW DialUp Network
Sprint has a program called OMA-DM. This program has all the information from the status section of your device. When I worked for sprint we would have customers update their data profile, this would send the information to the tool. The rep can then see what rom you are on. However this did not work on AOSP roms since they do not update the profile.
If you want to fool sprint update your profile under a stock unmodified rom, then flash to AOSP, the info for the sense rom would be still in the system.
Furthermore they can see if you have updated the profile, so if you tell them that you did they will be able to see if you actually did or not.. They are also able to view all the transactions with dates and times between your phone and the tool.
My advise to you is to suck it up and run the official rom until the testing is over, usually about a week.
Also sprint has no control over a custom rom, so they automatically have you update profile and firmware to the current version to ensure that the phone is working to their standards and things that they have control over.
TL;DR - Quit complaining and use a stock rom so sprint can do their testing.
The complaining in this thread has me puzzled. Run a stock Tom for them to test, reinstall favorite Tom when done...

I imagine sprint can know quite a bit about your phone. When I had my diamond, (or maybe it was my Evo, I forget) something wasn't working right. I got on the phone with a tech, and he proceeded to to operate my phone while I was holding my phone. I could see the screen clicks, and him going from one menu to another, operating my phone remotely. Blew me away.
As for the monitoring SW mentioned earlier in this thread, does it read build prop values? Cuz I'm guessing that's how they get your device info.
Lastly, post 2 and 3 about not expecting sprint to work on/assess your rooted phone. BS. Sprint has given mixed signals about this. I know there have been internal memos released stating they now will honor rooted phones. I think lazyness is the culprit when a comes to CSRs or techs rejecting for root. I've always taken in my rooted phone and put a stockish rom on it first, when I have a hardware problem (blown speaker, broken screen, etc.)

They used an application call LogMeIn Rescue. It gives them the ability to remotely view/control a pc, windows or blackberry phone. Its actually a lot easier to do it for a customer more often then trying to walk them through it.
Yes the information displayed in the about phone section is stored in the build.prop.
As for the software; software plays a factor in how the device operates and communicates with the network. Sprint has designed the stock software on their devices to their standards. They know their software and how it works. Now take a custom rom, one that has be frankenstined together. How do you expect a company to properly troubleshoot and diagnose a problem that could very well be related to the customer software?
I totally agree with the laziness part on the Tech Reps, after working with the company for several years, Id have to say most of the reps were less educated or technically minded about the device that they were working with. I could not tell you how many times I would hear customers complain about the Tech Reps.
Going to a hardware issue, Custom software would not break the screen, blow a speaker, or otherwise cause physical damage to the device (with the exception of a battery). So these should have no effect on hardware warranty's or exchanges.

Another Verizon rant (because we need one)

My battery literally went from 100% to 5% between 8 AM and 1 PM today.
I sent and received a bunch of texts, got a few push notifications from GroupMe, and I have my MBW-200 connected via bluetooth. Thats it.
Ever since 2.3.4 its been crap, now my office here is a bit of a cell dead zone, and usually my battery only lasts till about 3-4PM, but thats almost always with more use. On 2.3.3 if I rarely used it it would last well into the evening.
This problem was nowhere near as bad with 2.3.3 .
I've been sticking it out with 2.3.4 hoping for the PS store to finally have some games. I'm very tempted to just flash this crap back and freeze mobile care.
You suck verizon.

Exactly, I am locked actually, but my point was the ROM from Verizon is junk. If they were releasing it to get people off their backs they failed miserably.

Try undervolting it and install Go Launcher. It has a handy little RAM manager add-on that tells you how long you have left before the battery dies. Also, try buying RAM Manager off the Play Store.
All the above fixed my battery problems
I called Vz today to see if there was any progress on a working 2.3.4, As usual the tech I spoke to had no idea of these problems ( No google sync, No gtalk, ect..) After arguing/debating the tech on common causes, they finally agreed to call Sony. About ten minutes later the Tech came back and said the "Sony claims the 2.3.4 update for the R800x has been cancelled, and that the update would not instal on the device"
Can anyone else confirm the update no longer works as far as it not downloading? I still find it downloadable on my end...And I still find that it is still broke on my end.
Between Verizon and Sony.. were getting no support !
My battery on ICS is abysmal. I run down to 14 % after 7 hours of light use (unplug at 7:30 am, plug in at 2:30 pm). I'm going to end up having to get an extended battery. Signal is low at work, though.

If this is really true then it has reaffirmed the fact that I am done with VZ after my contract, and has even opened me to being done with Sony as well. Way to burn your early adopters....

It still installs 2.3.4. I had to go back to stock from CM9 because the volume is too low for my bass playing caused, hearing impaired ears and stock has plenty of volume. But 2.3.4 sucks. It's definitely broken. If someone has a method for increasing the volume on CM9 or CM7, I'd go back in a hearbeat.
If you use Cyanogenmod you can crank up the volume in the equalizer (DSP). That's what I did.
The point is that we need to root and unlock to get the battery life back to what it should be...

I got moderated on their Support Forum. There is a TON of posts about the 2.3.4 issue, yet the only post Verizon tech support replied to recently is 2 posts about downloading and playing music on the phone.
So I replied:
Hey how about one of you guys respond to the 30 or so threads before this about how the OTA 2.3.4 update is broken and what Verizon is doing to fix it.

They apparently didn't like that.

Figures right! Every time I call VZ about, each rep and tech claims there's no record of these problems and blame it on the applications themselves. One tech even tried to tell me the service bars don't turn green... shows how much they know!

I have overheard conversations that the issues with the latest Verizon build were due to a late Verizon encryption requirement that broke Google applications. The issue is being mediated between Verizon and Google to root cause the problem and determine whether Google or Sony will need to issue a patch.
