Native SIP clients in Gingerbread quality - Nexus One General

after upgrading my nexus one to gingerbread i tried the native SIP Client but the quality is very bad, sound is chopped all the time, not clear at all
i tried with iptel and inphonex SIP providers
both with same result
any fix for this?

Fix? Nothing is broken.
Your problem sounds like a lack of bandwidth. How much bandwidth does the wifi connection you're connecting to have?
I have been using the sip client on my phone today with no issues other than a slight lag. Everything is crystal clear.

SIPdroid is working fine on the same telephone and same network

What codec is sipdroid using?
What codecs are supported by your sip providers?

These are the codecs supported by inphonex SIP Provider, i got these from their website
G.711
G.729
G.726
G.723
GSM
i dont know about sipdroid software

I got the same problem. SIPDroid working perfectly
Google SIP : when I talk, it's clear on the other side but what I hear is chopped, I don't know what's wrong
I'm on oxygen 2.0 with HTC desire

Hi, could anyone of you tell me how to config sipdroid? or where can I find an manual?
thanks,
I mean how to config it using google voice.

This thread has lots of detailed instructions for getting a SIP solution to work with Google Voice on either SipDroid or cSIPSimple (even the native Gingerbread SIP stuff as well).

thanks codesplice. checking that thread now.

Hard to answer that, as I have Airplane Mode enabled for most of the day. I generally do about 30-minutes of wifi data stuff before work, then put on airplane mode for the 10-12 hours work day (usually with music playing for about 8 hours of that), and do another 2-3 hours of pretty heavy data usage after work (again, over wifi). After this, I usually have about 20-30% remaining.
I should be back in the States sometime next week and can PM you with my battery usage as experienced with cell data enabled again.

even though, to me, that's heavy usage. your battery's performance seems pretty good. r u using the stock battery?

Stock battery, WM's undervolt kernel limited to 1075Mhz, SetCPU profiles (screen off = max @ 576MHz), CM tweaked autobrightness thresholds, and I set the display to the minimum brightness for most of the time that I'm connected to wifi (kinda dark in that tent).

T-Mobile MDA

I just wanted to share my experiences with my new phone so far. The T-Mobile MDA (I'm not sure what version it is, it's the only one for sale at T-Mobile right now) is an awesome phone.
Just today I learned how to listen to streaming Sirius satellite radio, and I enjoyed the sounds of dance music by the pool from Windows Media Player on my phone.
The things I hate about this phone are the battery life (it's horrible, especially if I have Bluetooth on all day for my Bluetooth headset or am listening to streaming music), the bad Outlook syncing (I don't know how to set contacts in a group like Personal and ONLY sync Person contacts with my phone), the GPRS connection is bad... I guess when I don't have service it disconnects itself or something, I don't know how to always keep it alive. Also, downloading things from this forum from my phone doesn't work, it downloads the file download.php when it should be downloading the actual file instead.
Are there any solutions to my problems?
How to keep your GPRS alive
1) Go to the following registry entry:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A3 *****}\Connections\GPRS*****\"
2) Change "Always On" 0 into 1.
Thanks, is there anything wrong with keeping it on all the time?
Any battery saving enhancements or longer lasting batteries?
Battery
I am still looking into that GPRS issue myself.
I am not sure Kenny, but I read that there are two battery versions
for MDA vario. The standard version that is included with your device, and one that is a little bit more expensive, but will give you 50% extra power.
Please do a search on the net.
Tried this... my device will auto disconnect anyway.
JaySea,
Please try again,
It should work.
If it disconnects then something else is blocking it.
And even when it disconnects, it will connect by itself again,
about 2 minutes after disconnecting.

Do a soft reset, then see if it works...
I'm a total n00b with the T-Mo MDA so please excuse the question.
To view the registry entry must you connect to a PC and access from that or is this done in the phone itself?
Thanks.
Viewing the registry...
You can check/edit the registry on your handheld device with (for example) Resco Explorer or Total Commander...
okay, I'm confused. Is this the right version of Total Commander? MDA has an xscale proc, right?
Sjaakman: Thx so much for the tip.
My MDA has excellent battery life, much better than my previous iMate jam.
WiFi drains your battery life quickly. Set your backlight to the 2nd lowest level and make sure it is set to turn off after 1 min - if it's on all the time that takes a lot of power.
Maybe your battery is bad, see if you can get it replaced.
I'm a newbie in this subject on PDA phones, I just acquired the new MDS Vario T-mobile and don't know many of the great features that some of you mentioned here. If there is any way that I can find more information about the usage of the phone, please send me a PM to guide me through in my initiation. Every bit of advise will be much appreciated.

Web Access via Wifi or GPRS/Edge
Hello, I am new to TMobile and the MDA; I have had it for 4 days. For the life of me, no matter what I do I cannot get the phone to access the web. Here is what I have done:
1) At home, my PDA (ipaq 4705) and previous phone (imate Jam mini) both connect to my home wireless acess pont with no trouble. The MDA shows my access point in the Network Cards Settings, but it will not associate with it at all. The battery is fully charged, the mode is set to performance, woreless is on, the acess point shows up in the Settings Wireless status screens, but it will not associate. The access point is a b/g one and it is set to mixed mode.
2) I have set up the GPRS settings exactly as per TMobiles web site with the access point (wap.voicestream.com), the proxy, the 8080 port number etc. When I try to go to a website (any web site), the GPRS/Edge modem successfully connects, but Internet Explorer just indicates 'Locating' and I never see a web site,
I have phone service plus the full internet package at 29.95 per month.
Nothing on the phone makes me think it is broken. For those that may have all this working, is there some magic to it? I'm trying not to call TMobile as the 3 or 4 times I have spoken with them I have not seen very good technical knowledge at all.
I have searched quite a bit but have not seen any mention of these problems. I'm hoping I am doing something wrong. Any experienced TMobile user out there that can give a few suggestions?
Regards,
Bob

[GSM/3G] Question to data connection

Hello,
I am owning a HD2 since 2 days now (and love it) and have a question about data connections. Maybe you guys can tell me more or help me. If you think this should be placed somewhere else, feel free to transfer it to the right category
I changed connection to gsm because 3g/hsdpa can drain battery life hard and i cannot charge it at all places...
Now, if I am using Google Maps or refresh the weather (to it on my own, not automatically) the Phone uses GPRS, right? Dont know much about this, it is my first phone (also windows mobile phone) which I am using with a "internet flatrate"... But I know with 3G it would be all faster...
My problem is that I dont want to change the settings everytime I want to use something which needs a better data connection like gmaps or surfing in web... So is there a program which I can setup for specific programs and functions (gmaps^^, browsing and so on) and which automatically changes to the better connection? And after closing the program it automatically changes back to the normal GSM connection?
I searched a little bit around but doesn't found anything like this.
I just want to save battery life if I am not using the phone (like I am sleeping or when it is just in the bag) because than it doesn't need a good connection...
I just found something called Bandswitch... Is this what i mean?
I hope you understood now what I am wanting. And just sorry if there are some mistakes in the text. I am just trying to improve my english knowledge every day
Greetz from germany, love your board!
best regards
Preforx
AFAIK, if the connection is idle, battery drain doesn't change much between EDGE and 3G.
It's when you actually use the connection that the battery drain wil go higher.
When I'm connected all day long on MSN, with nothing else really using data, I don't see a difference when I'm on EDGE or 3G.
If I'm browsing a lot, then yes 3G drains more - but that's simply because as the connection is faster, I end transferring more data than I would on EDGE. For the same mount it doesn't matter much.
Check this out.

HSDPA Nexus One users (tips, battery optimisation & stats, signal, etc..)

Hi,
I'm starting this thread to collect informations about using the N1 on a HSDPA network. Over the next weeks I'll be posting stats and infos about my experience on a HSDPA network.
*-----------------------------------------------------*
Tips
*-----------------------------------------------------*
(reserved)
*-----------------------------------------------------*
Battery optimization
*-----------------------------------------------------*
HSDPA seems to be very hard on the battery, and to get the most of your N1 there will be some sacrifice.
What COULD help:
- Dial *#*#4636#*#* and set the phone to "WCDMA Only" in the phone informations.
- Try the app called "battery refresh" on the android store. It will discharge your phone. Then boot into recovery and wipe your battery stats.
- Install setCPU from the android store (1$) and force it to 245/576 while the phone is standby/sleep (thanks djmcnz)
- there's an app on the appstore called JuiceDefender that allow you to disable APN based on time or your location.
What WILL help
- disable sync (push). This have a MAJOR impact on HSDPA network
- and obliviously set brightness to auto or lowest acceptable value.
*-----------------------------------------------------*
Signal optimization
*-----------------------------------------------------*
So far I've tried two different radio rom, and the older 4.03.00.21_2 seem to offer better signal. So you could try using that one.
*-----------------------------------------------------*
Bandwith optimization
*-----------------------------------------------------*
- If you have a rooted N1, you could try in "spare parts" the hotweiss's Radio mod (in miscellaneous). In my case, there's not difference but still could be worth a try.
*-----------------------------------------------------*
N.B. : Fellow canadians, if you are on Bell or Telus with your N1, your are on a HSDPA network.

You could try JuiceDefender, I think that app does exactly that.
I seem to get alot of network connection errors from market, to internet, and some games that use internet.
I noticed my signal is usally full bars but switches alot between 3G and H (HSDPA)
Are my connections errors due to the switching of 3G and H much like some people have issues with EDGE and 3G switching back and forth in certain spots?
Also that *#*#4636#*#* didn't work. EDIT: nevermind, needs to be done on the stock dialer.
I set my network from WCDMA prefered to WCDMA only. See how that works. EDIT: Still switches from 3G to HSDPA...

I believe this is normal behavior. The 'WCDMA only' option disables EDGE network connections so that you only use the 3G/HSDPA.
Cheers
I hope there is a bug on the N1 radios..Cause I can't last 20hrs with 1hr worth of calls..and small use of internet. Yet other people saying they easily go pass 30hrs with heavy use...liars..
I can still get though a full day, business and pleasure on a single charge using HSDPA, WiFi and making calls... lots of calls.
In an average (16h) day I will be connected via 3G for about 10 of those and WiFi for the remaining six. I make about 180 mins of calls a day, 20% of those using the speaker, I have a feed reader with 20 feeds that update constantly, I listen to music to and form work (20mins + 20mins), I might play a game or two and I often read xda and/or download during the day. Brightness at about 55% fixed.
I charge my phone overnight, every night (have been doing this since my original RAZR anyway).
I have never, ever run out of battery during a given day.
Setting the CPU to min in standby is not a good idea - it needs some headroom to actually complete background tasks and 245 is too low IMHO and will be counter-productive. I suggest 245/576.
If your usage is much above mine then I'm not sure how many marginal tips will be needed before it makes a meaningful difference...

GrooVe Ip fixes wifi sleep

Hi all, been following the dell streak forums here for quite a while. I've found something I thought was worth contributing in regards to fixing the wifi sleep that a lot of us have. The solution for me was the "High Perf Wifi Lock" found in the GrooVe IP app. It's in settings->troubleshooting. After turning it on I have had no problems with the wifi sleeping while screen off. It's been a week so far and still working great! This has never been the case with any of my previous attempts to remedy this problem. Downside is the app needs to be left running, so I would turn it on only when I need stable wifi as to avoid any battery drain. Hope this helps some. Truly sorry if this method was already attempted. Did a search before posting but didn't find anything, unless I don't know how to use the search function. Also, just want to say thanks for everyones hard work and dedicated support for this device!

*UPDATE*
Sad to announce I experienced my first wifi hang today. I noticed the GV app will intermittently sign off and on even when the wifi is stable. So I guess this is just another alternative to other wifi locks/fixers out there.
To those who've been testing, how has your experience been?

Thanks for the update. Reason I haven't upgraded from .71 is that everything is working fine and the speed is good enough for me. I've tried several versions up until the 1. release but experienced unexpected instability. Everyone's mileage is different so, like the old adage, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I'll update eventually as the streak becomes obsolete. I plan on keeping this device even when I move on to another for use as a daily driver. Nonetheless, thanks to everyone on the DSC team and all contributors for making this device what it was meant to be and better.
Still using MIUI 2.4.... Best rom in my opinion until a stable V4 MIUI comes out. I've always hoped someone out there used Groove IP. I knew Groove IP had the wifi fix but for some reason I wad using another app to keep the wifi awake.
Anyway what are your settings on the streak for Groove IP? The mic implementation causes a bad echo no matter what settings you use which is probably going to be my main reason for jumping ship to the note.
If you enable echo cancellation- the other party won't hear you because your voice will cut out.

any android which is above 2.3.3 will always have problem with voip... and audio routing not working at all... it just uses main speaker although we select the in-ear speaker...
only dsc does not have that kind of problem... and it is confirmed working...

Hey, yea the GV app work fine for me and I didn't fidget with audio settings at all. Perhaps the problem for you is as Deysmacro stated.
just posted an update, looks like I might have to do an update sooner than I had previously mentioned. Just when things were going so well....this device sure demands a lot of attention. It wouldn't be fun if it were easy but does it have to be this much fun?

Okay I tried using Groove IP's high perf wifi lock but that doesn't work. Wifi still turns off if the screen is off. There was a bug with wifi that Hpa fixed by making the wifi stay on no matter what your settings at a cost of battery drain.
Anyway I'm back to using advanced wifi lock to keep the wifi on.
No way does Groove IP work fine out of the box. You have to have the setting for the screen to be on during calls or else it will start dropping packets. I found that audio processing had to be on. Mic source had to he set to android default. Supposedly voip has better implementation versions after gingerbread. I have to use the basic echo canceller with 400-600ms tail and I use the large setting for mic buffer.
Streak has an issue where the audio routing will sometimes go through the main speaker-causing you to toggle the speaker phone button on and off at the beginning of a call. I had to go through all this just for free calls... its still not perfect and if the other caller is in a loud area with background noise-my echo canceler will cut out my voice completely.
If anyone has better settings let me know.
If you guys want a working voip such as skype.. just use dsc 1.0.. it is working as of this posting and audio routing works also..

I personally have used Skype since I got this mobile, and used DSC never had any problem with voip, so it must be something else wrong with you. currently using DSC 1.4 works very ok for me.

which ROM is battery-friendly

i want to start this poll discussing about several ROM's and battery's life. i want to say from the beginning that using of 3g, push email and weather is a must.
please share us about your experiences
i used hd2o, ansar and pdaimatejam ROM's, but on all of them i must to charge the battery twice a day. how about the clean ROM - stock ui?
you cant find 2 people with same experience... is many differences... also seems different sdcards have different battery drainage...
for me, with original, 2 year old battery with latest pdaimatejam ROM, radio combination 2.15/5.51 + camera trick, WiFi and 2G nonstop turned on battery duration is around 48 hours, but have mails turned off (manually checking), few calling, bunch of SMS, checking Facebook and news...
i have a question: on 2g it works push email?

with 2G all internet working fine: mail, browsing internet, MMS, but bit slower... not tried or using push mail...
tried to see if any issue with push-email on 2g and not 3g: it works like a charm and it seems that the battery lasts longer
Thread Closed
Everyone is going to have a different opinion since no two people use their phones in exactly the same way, so their answers will not be right for you. Please try the various ROMs until you find one that works for you.
