Hi all, been following the dell streak forums here for quite a while. I've found something I thought was worth contributing in regards to fixing the wifi sleep that a lot of us have. The solution for me was the "High Perf Wifi Lock" found in the GrooVe IP app. It's in settings->troubleshooting. After turning it on I have had no problems with the wifi sleeping while screen off. It's been a week so far and still working great! This has never been the case with any of my previous attempts to remedy this problem. Downside is the app needs to be left running, so I would turn it on only when I need stable wifi as to avoid any battery drain. Hope this helps some. Truly sorry if this method was already attempted. Did a search before posting but didn't find anything, unless I don't know how to use the search function. Also, just want to say thanks for everyones hard work and dedicated support for this device!
DSC ROM 0.71

*UPDATE*
Sad to announce I experienced my first wifi hang today. I noticed the GV app will intermittently sign off and on even when the wifi is stable. So I guess this is just another alternative to other wifi locks/fixers out there.
To those who've been testing, how has your experience been?
problem is already solved, just update your Rom to the latest version DSC 1.4

Thanks for the update. Reason I haven't upgraded from .71 is that everything is working fine and the speed is good enough for me. I've tried several versions up until the 1. release but experienced unexpected instability. Everyone's mileage is different so, like the old adage, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I'll update eventually as the streak becomes obsolete. I plan on keeping this device even when I move on to another for use as a daily driver. Nonetheless, thanks to everyone on the DSC team and all contributors for making this device what it was meant to be and better.
Still using MIUI 2.4.... Best rom in my opinion until a stable V4 MIUI comes out. I've always hoped someone out there used Groove IP. I knew Groove IP had the wifi fix but for some reason I wad using another app to keep the wifi awake.
Anyway what are your settings on the streak for Groove IP? The mic implementation causes a bad echo no matter what settings you use which is probably going to be my main reason for jumping ship to the note.
If you enable echo cancellation- the other party won't hear you because your voice will cut out.

any android which is above 2.3.3 will always have problem with voip... and audio routing not working at all... it just uses main speaker although we select the in-ear speaker...
only dsc does not have that kind of problem... and it is confirmed working...

Hey, yea the GV app work fine for me and I didn't fidget with audio settings at all. Perhaps the problem for you is as Deysmacro stated.
just posted an update, looks like I might have to do an update sooner than I had previously mentioned. Just when things were going so well....this device sure demands a lot of attention. It wouldn't be fun if it were easy but does it have to be this much fun?

Okay I tried using Groove IP's high perf wifi lock but that doesn't work. Wifi still turns off if the screen is off. There was a bug with wifi that Hpa fixed by making the wifi stay on no matter what your settings at a cost of battery drain.
Anyway I'm back to using advanced wifi lock to keep the wifi on.
No way does Groove IP work fine out of the box. You have to have the setting for the screen to be on during calls or else it will start dropping packets. I found that audio processing had to be on. Mic source had to he set to android default. Supposedly voip has better implementation versions after gingerbread. I have to use the basic echo canceller with 400-600ms tail and I use the large setting for mic buffer.
Streak has an issue where the audio routing will sometimes go through the main speaker-causing you to toggle the speaker phone button on and off at the beginning of a call. I had to go through all this just for free calls... its still not perfect and if the other caller is in a loud area with background noise-my echo canceler will cut out my voice completely.
If anyone has better settings let me know.
If you guys want a working voip such as skype.. just use dsc 1.0.. it is working as of this posting and audio routing works also..

I personally have used Skype since I got this mobile, and used DSC never had any problem with voip, so it must be something else wrong with you. currently using DSC 1.4 works very ok for me.

I am having some major issues with the wifi on my slide. When I have the rooted software installed. I have tried both the stock cynogen 6.0.0 rom and the teamfenix version but still cannot get the wifi to work on my home network. I haven't found any other roms to try though.
fyi:
Works fine on stock rom
home network is open with no mac filtering or anything like that.
I also have heard that flashing the radio might help but I thought that was separate from the wifi and the antenna works fine. I also have no issues with a data connection through the network.
Also if someone could recommend a way of transferring the phone program from the sense rom to the root rom that would be great. (I like the way it gives you the number it thinks you are about to dial, makes calls more fluid actions)
So... ideas?

A few: The latest known radio for the slide is 7.09.35.10. If you have that you don't need to reflash it. CM 6.0 has a known issue with the wifi that you can fix by turning on bluetooth. You don't have to have bluetooth connect to anything, just have it on. I don't know why that works but it does. Or you can flash the latest nightly for the slide. You can find it through ROM Manager, but you'll need the paid version to do that, which is totally worth it, or find it in the cyanogenmod forum. However, if you go ahead and flash the nightly, beware that things may or may not work (although the last several I've run have been damn stable) and DO NOT POST BUGS IN THE BUG TRACKER!
Also, on a side note, bluetooth in call audio does not work. Meaning you can not talk on the phone through bluetooth. Stereo bluetooth works great though, so you can listen to music no problem.

If on CM6: Menu>settings>about phone then look at the baseband version. It's the last set of numbers. If on stock ROM it's the same sequence except after you go into "about phone" you need to go into "software information".

Where can I find the radio update? Can't find it on the HTC website or on here.
edit: actually - it seems to be working fine now for some screwed up reason. My roms seem to do that... if my phone is in a good mood when I do my nandroid restore, then it works even better than before (hey look that rymes). If not, then it says "F*** off and die, I'm not giving you internet you fascist SoB.". As you may understand my phone has major mood swings... I think it gets PMS.
The CM6 thread has a link to the latest radio I believe. Also, something that worked for me is under the WiFi Settings menu, press Menu > Advanced, and change Regulatory Channels to 14. I saw that posted in one of the CM65 threads and it worked for me.
I found something interesting out about my phone. Apparently those moods I talked about are just the wipe not working properly. If I wipe it 3-5 time beforehand everything seems to work better.
I can even get golden sun working on the gameboid which I had thought was too unstable to work (just that one game though not the whole program).

This is a brand new unrooted Mytouch 4G, so I suppose I haven't done anything wrong yet. =P
I tried the wifi connection on this phone, and it usually works great. But I later found out the it's not very stable. I carry this phone with me and walk around the campus, it doesn't always receive wifi signal like my iPad would always do. Also, sometimes even when it shows that I am connected, the internet based software such as skype will not work (making phone call without hearing any voice).
Is there a software/app that can help? Or maybe I should root my phone for a better version of operating system?
On the stock ROM and all Sense ROMs, there is an option under WiFi Settings -> Advanced -> Best WiFi Performance. Try selecting that and see if it makes a difference.

WOO! lol i found someone in the same boat as me...I go college as well and my ipad connects fine, but my laptop and phone (for some weird reason do not). Ive tried a whole variety of differernt rom and kernel combinations including stock, but nothing would work. I really really really wanted to stay stock on my phone because I like it so much, but it just wouldnt work. Then I tried the evil 4g HD rom with fauxs sense smartass kernel and suddenly wifi was working amazing! It connected as soon as I clicked turn on wifi and stayed connected throughout the day even though I was walking around campus. Plus the rom has sense so its not straying too far from stock! I dont know what the reason is, but you should give it a go and see if it works for you!
I finally determine to try your method. I can't find evil 4G HD rom. Did you mean Evo?

Anyone else experiencing problems with the Wlan? Everyday I have to shut down Wifi, and start Wifi again to reconnect to my router. This mostly happens after the phone has been unused for a few minutes.
When I start using the phone again, it still says i´m connected, I still have the IP, and the signalbar. But when trying to use the internet there is no connection.
My X10, asus lamborghini, hp laptop and desktop pc works flawlessly, so there cant be anything wrong with the router.
Would like to confirm that this is a general problem, and not just my phone...
I didn't have this problem until I played with the WiFi sleep policy. I switched it from 'Never' to 'Sleep when screen is off' and I then got the problem you described. I have since switched my phone back to 'Never' and the problem has gone away.

There are three threads and one poll dedicated to Wi-Fi. There was no definitive answer in those threads so I doubt there will be one in this thread. Do a search.
Same problem here, not sure if it's down to running a customer rom, anyone having this problem on stock rom?
Yes I've had this problem and tried to send my phone back over it.
It appears to be a problem with WPA1 - the wifi driver hangs and the phone kills it (from adb logcat).
It happened on my home wifi - I switched it to WPA2 and it went away; however, my employer uses 802.1X and I have to use HSPDA at work as wifi keeps crashing.

Get off your high horses. I found a solution in this 'noob' thread that I did not find in the pages of waffle on the main thread.
It may have cost me £100 but it is a solution which is what some of us pragmatic types want. The rest of the high and mighty around here can cast around for an understanding of the underlying issue but some just want to get things to work and get on with our lives. Both attitudes are valid and one camp should not set themselves as more 'worthy' than the other.
A sense of superiority is seldom founded on anything useful.

Hi Guys,
Today I installed the following ROM along with the Wifi calling app.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905060
I have increased the partition size to 175MB since this guide recommend it. Well, that's not exactly what it's says, it recommend 145MB but I guess adding another 30MB won't hurt.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038784
Everything installed and worked fine. The problem started when I use the wifi app.
The app version I installed: wifi-calling-htcleo-gb-20110628.zip.
Here are the problems. Once in a while it works fine.
1. Phone calls started to freeze.
2. Can't use the bluetooth
3. App freezes
4. Need to wait couple minuted before the next call (not a big deal)
I did some research this morning and found out that I need to upgrade to newer SIM card because some people had success after they changed to newer one. The guide recommend that too.
So I went to T-Mobile store and got changed the SIM card.
But that didn't solve the problem.
Please help
Thank you

hes saying skype on wifi does the same, it could very well be an issue with the drivers for wifi
wifi calling isnt native to the devic e so i would expect there to be bugs/issues with it

This is a known issue thats why no replies...considering HD2 is not an android phone to begin with and wifi calling is a feature ported from "true android devices" there have been alot of problems getting it to work with our phone. I personally had the same issues as you did and force closes on phone.android after installing wifi. I ended up giving up on it for now until more development is done for the wifi...overall it is pretty good considering we arent even supposed to have it for this phone.

Last I saw, this didn't work on GB. Does anyone know if it works with ICS yet, and if not, do you guys think getting a bounty going would be a good way of getting it done? I'm not sure how hard it is to get working, but I do know that wifi calling on the G2 works with all currently released versions of android.

I've posted a new nightly to my github account, plus a kineto addon package. It should give working T-Mobile Wifi calling. Everyone who's interested in that, please install both (nightly first, then addon package) and give feedback.

It is working like a charm! This is now the perfect ROM for me.
I've uploaded a new nightly with the final solution: The Wifi calling application is shipped with the ROM, but disabled by default. In order to activate it, go to Settings -> Device settings and enable it there. If your launcher doesn't pick up the change immediately, just reboot.
Echo on wifi
I am able to make and receive wifi calls once again but everyone I call while on wifi tells me they hear an echo of themselves with a 2-3 sec delay. Using the nightly posted by Maniac on 03/21.

Can you re-try with my latest nightly? I've included an app that keeps Wifi at full power even if the screen is off (which obviously happens when calling due to the proximity sensor).
During calling you should see a notification that says something like 'Wifi high-speed mode enabled'.

Yes. I added it in the May 29 build.
OK, I tried the May 29 build, and unfortunately the echo problem persists. :-(
It happens regardless of whether the screen is on or off, and regardless of whether the phone is on speaker mode. Changing the in-call volume does not affect the volume of the echo. Is there anything else I could try?
Edit: By the way, I have a nandroid of the stock T-Mobile USA Froyo, on which wi-fi calling works perfectly. I'd be happy to flash it and retrieve any files from it that may be needed to resolve the issue.

Unfortunately, I have no the slightest idea what could cause this echo issue, mainly because I can't actually try this stuff myself and am coding totally into the blue here. The fact that it happens on any audio output points towards network/Wifi, but I don't know Kineto well enough to know what the actual problem might be.
Can you share the system.img of that Nandroid with me? Maybe I'll give file comparison another try.

Sure, I'll send you a PM with a link to the nandroid. Thanks a million for working on this issue, and for all your work on CM7. Your builds are awesome!
I spent some time poking around in forums about T-Mobile wifi calling on other devices, and I noticed that the following files in system/lib/ are sometimes involved in getting wifi calling to work properly:
libcryp98.so
libcrypto.so
libganril.so
libkineto.so
libril.so
libril-moto-umts-1.so
librilswitch.so
I compared the files in the stock USA T-Mobile Froyo rom (on which wifi calling works perfectly) with the files in Maniac’s June 2nd build.
libganril and librilswitch are exactly the same in both roms (at least, their MD5 sums match).
libcryp98 is not in the stock rom at all, but there is a file in the stock rom called “libcryptoki.so”, which is not in CM7. I tried adding it to CM7, but it had no effect on wifi calling (the echo problem continued).
The remaining four files listed above are in both roms, but their MD5 sums do not match. So, I tried replacing the ones in CM7 with the ones from the stock rom, one at a time, with the following results:
libcrypto.so > phone stuck at boot screen
libkineto.so > wifi calling broken (Kineto app FC)
libril.so > no effect (wifi calling works, echo persists)
libril-moto-umts-1.so > no calls via network or wifi (invalid sim error)
I also tried replacing libaudiopolicy, libaudio, and libaudioflinger with the ones from the stock rom, as suggested here: http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=4283#c75
Result: phone stuck at boot screen. I thought maybe the files were incompatible with gingerbread. So, I tried taking those three files from a Samsung Exhibit II stock rom (gingerbread with T-Mobile wifi calling), but when I put them on my DEFY it again got stuck at the boot screen.
I also tried replacing MS-MOTOJDN-FROYO-KNT20-02-A0-24.2.apk in system/app/ with the apk from the stock rom, since its MD5 sum did not match the one in Maniac’s build. However, this had no effect on wifi calling: the echo problem continued.
At this point I’m about out of ideas, but I’d love to see a solution to this problem and I’d be happy to test out any other ideas that anyone may have.

If the problem is network/wifi related, maybe using a different wifi module would solve the issue. I recall that several different wifi modules were tested back in the early days of cm7.1 -- perhaps one of those would be compatible with kineto wifi calling. I'd be happy to test that, if someone can explain how to replace the wifi module.
Another idea: maybe T-mobile's new IMS-based wifi calling could be made to work on the DEFY, instead of using Kineto:
