XWJV1 for i9000 Called official gingerbread leak - Vibrant General

So since we can now flash i9000 ROMS on our vibrant, can someone with more smarts then me lemme know if this leak means anything to us. I know everyone is sick of gingerbread threads already but I honestly don't know what to make of recent developments.

I think this means after some tweaking, we could have it.

Even if it is a gingerbread build we would need a compatible kernel to run it reasonably.

Seen the pics, it's still based on Twiz 3.0
Wouldn't have it been easier to just mess with the GS2's 4.0?
Oh well, GB is GB.

You guys reading Barak and Eugene's Tweets? Exciting stuff!

I'm kind of on the go right now but just saw that they're playing with Touchwiz 2.2.1 and theyre saying samsung altered the kernel, and although still rfs, it's flying! don't know how or where whatever they installed came from but just read that.
So Samsung made touchwiz faster did they update the interface?

Like I said, I'm repeating the little I read and not adding any rumors too it. They are both saying 3-4x faster, fixing the IO problem before and showing 1255 quadrant bone stock, just rooted. Also thought I saw a mention of a POSSIBLE upload tonight.
I thought I remember reading that 2.2.1 ditches RFS for something else.
I'm Pretty certain their talking about android 2.2.1.
Sounds like changes to I/o for faster Vibrant's too.
Theyre saying touchwiz 2.2.1 which yeah it's just android 2.2.1 and just the corresponding touchwiz that skins it. And no, still RFS, they must be pretty firm on that, but they have optimized it, like I said 3-4x faster theyre saying it feels like. I'd like to think these guys have tried enough ROMs on their vibrants to know what 3-4x faster feels like, so I'm pretty confident this is great news.

Nice. Other then the obvious things that wouldn't work, like button mapping and such, hows it's stability?
From Eugene's twitpic, he would seem to have acquired a 2.2.1 JL4 build with a baseband of JL1 still.
so does this mean they got a new leak of a rom, or kernel?

so are leaks like this (or previous 2.2 leaks also) leaked from samsung or tmobile? I know we have all been blaming samsung for the delay in releasing 2.2 to us, so im wondering if samsung has released it to tmobile?
Basically, who is holding us up on the official update, Samsung or Tmobile? (or in other words, who to blame?)
either way, these developers are amazing. i would have thrown my phone in the toilet if it we not for the developers here at xda
looks like they are making some good progress
I think they just need to release whatever they have and stop teasing/hoarding it. This is supposed to be a community. It's actually quite ridiculous.

The leak is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865701
They're not hoarding or teasing, its not for the vibrant so it probably needs some massaging to get it fully working.

Actually this is NOT what eugene and barak are tweeting about. They are tweeting about JL4 for the Vibrant. As to where they got this leak, well eugene has been able to get hold of leaks before so this isn't really a surprise.
As to the charges of hoarding or teasing, I don't recall eugene or barak ever owing me anything or anyone holding a gun to my head to follow their tweets.
Looking forward to seeing this in firmware myself, and I'm sure we all will have the opportunity soon.

Of course they don't owe use anything. But that's like someone discovering new firmware and choosing to talk about it rather than let everyone have a go at it. Wait, that's exactly what it is. No one else seems to have a problem with posting any new leaked firmware as soon as they discover them so why is this different?. The sooner it is posted, the sooner other devs can begin developing. That's the whole point of a community. Even if it is buggy I'm sure other devs are willing to sort it out for their releases.

They already released their source.. what has been done with that? Just because someone has something others don't,releasing it to the community guarantee's nothing. Eugene and Barak do plenty for this community, even when they are being harassed about it which is not cool.

So.....Time to put Gingerbread rumors to rest?

Froyo source is out. The last ROM to leak out was KB1, and that was almost 3 weeks ago....and it came out not long after the official Froyo KA6. Forgive me for starting this discussion (or argument, depending on how this develops), but I'm thinking that the lack of any recent ROMs in conjunction with the release of KA6 Froyo source and absolute silence by Samsung on Gingerbread for Galaxy S pretty much means there is no way official Gingerbread is coming to Vibrant. I'm just saying. Not knocking Samsung (for this, anyway, no need to rehash everything Samsung SHOULD be knocked for), because they never promised Gingerbread. I'm guessing no more official Vibrant firmware development whatsoever is taking place.
I think (and this is just my opinion) we shouldn't get too ahead of ourselves worrying about gingerbread. Especially when we have some epic ROMs to look forward to now that the froyo source is out.
I am waiting for the CM7 or teamwhiskey to port 2.3 to vibrant
If that's true, then wouldn't that mean that vibrant 4G would also not get gingerbread? Not 1 update.... at all?
Keep it in your pants buddy.
The reason there haven't been any leaks is because Samsung changed the ports on their FUS server. Haven't figured out which one it is yet.

Gingerbread is optimized for the Hummingbird while Froyo is optimized for the Snapdragon. It should give better performance. I finally had a chance to play with a NS for an extended time the other day and it is lightning fast bone stock. There are also some new api's that no one has begun to utilize...yet. It's like Eclair was - nothing special except for the processor boost. Icecream or whatever you want to call the next release is probably going to be a major upgrade with hardware acceleration and a ui overhaul.

Team Whiskey has been baking Ginger Cookies for quite sometime now

Now i kno Team Whiskey is out working on Gingerbread, but i remember they made a fast transition from Eclair to Froyo, but now from Froyo to Gingerbread is taking quite sometime.
Now im not rushing, im good with trigger right now...
But I want to know why was the transition so fast from Eclair to Froyo, whats the core differences in development?

because there is no official leak of Gingerbread for Vibrant yet.
They had a Froyo leak, that's why.
They are building this Gingerbread off the i9000 most likely, so give them some time.
Actually eugene built macnut off of the i9k froyo he even got gps working before the vibrant 2.2 leaks starting coming out. Honestly I don't think their working on it as much as you think they all got new phones and moved on. Hopefully eugene will step in and get us 2.3 im sure he can
Pretty sure Eugene got a G2 about a month ago. Gave up on the Vibrant.

Actually if you follow him on twitter he got his Vibrant back and he actually made a new rom for the vibrant (Ginger Clone RC3). Its good to have him back. And about the GPS people are wondering about why don't you guys just ask him if he got the GPS working before the froyo leak or after.
I beleive TW stopped working on the Gingerbread ROM actually. Krylon was the main person developing and he is doing work with other phones now/updating the 2.2.1 Frost. I wouldn't expect a TW 2.3 anytime soon.. . unless a leak hits.
Guys... Did we forget ebaitr already
That's the kind soul who leaked froyo for us!
This is when the gps ever worked for the first time.

There's nothing left to really do until we have a leak. And honestly even if they are done its all good we have plenty of stuff available to us and if I remember right they had the first experimental gingerbread out... so I don't know exactly what you are asking about. Either way if I had spent the last x months working on all this mess and hit a wall because of available information I would take advantage of the time off...

Also, even tho they are all users here, they have their own site... its www.teamwhiskey.com
There you will find all of TW's devs and even a nice little webchat (IRC) you can use to chat with others or even the devs and ask them yourself

Samsung to update all the Galaxy S line to Gingerbread

Its official. They will begin with the European phones at mid month (arent we there already?) and then move on to the American phones. I'm guessing we'll see a leak in about a month.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/16/official-samsung-galaxy-s-and-galaxy-tab-getting-gingerbread-up/
Samsung has said that they'd step up their game with it comes to updates, and T-Mobile said they'd help push out updates faster.
I honestly think we may have a official release by the end of the month to early june.

Well, I really can be hopeful, since I'll also have the NS4G (getting it today), if they don't release it, I'll just play around with GB on the NS4G, and when the Vibrant gets GB, I'll have 2 amazing phones (not like the Vibrant isn't amazing now, but just not taking full advantage of it's hardware).
This is great news! Hopefully they do step up their software updates and push it out or leak it faster than we expect.

Hell, I'd rather take a leak, so that our amazing dev's can create working ROM's out of them.
Yeah a leak would come in handy. We'd get new roms and maybe some stuff fixed in CM7/MIUI. The Epic 4G had a leak not too long ago and i think there looking at another leak that one of the dev groups has. The ones that got us our leaks here in the vibrant section were Eugene373 and Krylon360, and their both gone. =(
Good news indeed... Lets just hope a leak comes early.

Binary roms will not help CM7 and miui roms with GPS because of the way Samsung calls on the GPS as compared to the way aosp calls on the GPS. This has been stated many times over, and yet still gets swept under the rug.
Even after the *kernel* source is released, it still contains nothing about GPS source.

GPS will probably never work for EVERYONE on the Vibrant... so might as well let it go and wait for some dev to make a mod that makes it work like Heathen's GPS fixes.
I was saying that GB would open completely new doors.
GB could help complete MIUI and CM7, as they are all Gingerbread based.
Even if it is AOSP, they have to use the things that Samsung gives.

This GPS issue is really unfortunate. We should just have Samsung open source it..
Let's sit back and enjoy the news about Kies-bricked phones (again).

So I've been away from xda for a while...

and realized after the frenzy of froyo builds..theres been cpl of new builds... ec05 and ee03 being GB... i was happilystuck on frozen for a while and was running well for me.. now my qtn is..
#1 EC05 the stock rom as of 5/23?
#2 Has EE03 release date been finalized and announced?
Welcome back!
EC05 is the current, official froyo build for our phone.
EE03 will never be officially released, it was just a (nearly) complete GB build. Sprint/Samsung are still working on newer builds, I think the latest is EE19 which may or may not be the final build. We probably will not see another GB leak until official is dropped. No real solid evidence on when this will be, but rumors are going around saying sometime in mid-late June for official GB.

Also, while you were away the forum changed some. Technical and factual questions such as yours really belong in the Q&A subforum. The General subforum is reserved mostly for drama.

As I understand it, GB has some pretty significant changes under the hood, but you'd need a mechanic...err Dev to to explain what those are. I'm just a driver
Gunner bread has some specific optimizations now for our hummingbird processor, hardware accelerated ui, lots of new goodies for app devs, among other things I'm to lazy to type.
