Phantom Touchscreen - Xoom General

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j77BY2rfB3M
Second Xoom I've physically seen experiencing this problem- the touchscreen is responding to touch events that aren't happening.
As you can see, this Xoom is still in the plastic wrap it came in, just exchanged my last one for it (the last one had a dead/lazy pixel)
Has anyone else experienced this? Is it maybe a software bug or a hardware problem?
Seems to happen at random, but this happened shortly after unlocking the thing from a night spent unplugged on my nightstand.
I might also need to add that this is rooted and overclocked to 1.5 GHz, but the last one wasn't and it experienced the same thing.

Does this happen with the plastic wrap off?

It did with the other one, but I'm waiting to take the plastic wrap off on this one until I get a protector. It cuts down on the glare and fingerprints noticeably.

Whats the weather like where youre at? Any chance that the device got wet (taking it out of the box, parking lot, etc)?
Has it been seen outside of your house?
Has the been seen both indoors and outside?
Do you have humidifiers running?

i did have this problem with my xoom the first day i got it.
Mine wasn't a big issue, it was in the gallery app. Looking at pictures off my camera, i was trying to swipe to the next picture, and it kept zooming like i had pinched it. It probably did this for about 3 minutes, somewhat amusing me/ somewhat scaring me.
But i just turned my device off and then back on and since then i've had no issue. its been about 2 days since then, and i've used my Xoom probably 40 hrs of the 48.

I've only used this one indoors, and there's no chance its gotten wet. It is actually about 70 degrees here (really unusual for this time of year), not sure about humidity.. though it is about to rain.

Im wondering if there's an evironmental factor here. The fact that you've personnaly seen this twice, on 2 different xooms really fights against the probability matrix of defective devices.
Does it only happen when you hold it, or shortly after?
Did you get them at the same store? (i.e. potentially part of the same shipment, potentially same production batch... long shot, but still)

Anyone else still have their launch day evo?

Title says it all. I still have mine, and haven't run into any issues or defects with it. It seems like most folks have had to get theirs replaced at some point. Did I just get lucky?
Sent from my blah blah blah blah
Nah, I've got my original one too. I'm a grown adult and take care of my things.
I would say a lot of people do too. People won't complain when things are going well, ya know? How often do you see a thread titled "Everything is great, no problems here"
Same here. No probs except for power button crack that u can barely notice

I still have my launch day Evo as well but I am having issues with my power button. Might need to go into Sprint and see if they can repair.
Im on number 3...
I still have mine launch day Phone with MIUI rom, phone looks great and feels great.

lol nice.
Second evo here... first one stopped sending text messages.. :O (unrooted... )
Launch day here too.
Running Miui and it feels new!
I still got mine from 1 week after launch day. It has power button and volume button cracks, and it has been dropped several times by myself and my 2 y/o. One time it fell, it was inside the leather case I carry it in but both upper corners remain exposed in my case. Of course, it landed right on one of the two exposed corners (on a cement floor), and broke one of the clips that hold the phone together. So now, my Evo looks like this:

I put a quarter in there so you can see how much of a gap there is, but I did pry it open a bit for a more dramatic effect. lol Until it stops working perfectly, I'm riding with this phone until it's dead or I get something better.
I had to get my original Evo replaced after around two months.
There was a small horizontal area on the screen that would not produce any touch actions, so it made it difficult to do some activities (there was an important button within the SMS app I used and upon tapping on the button, there would be no executed action). Dragging down the notification bar simply skipped over the dead spot. Dotty also proved the same results.
This was my first problem ever with a phone and I don't see it as being user error. However, my replacement has been great (knock on wood).
still have mine !
My screen started lifting about a month after I had it, so it had to be replaced. I've had the replacement ever since though.
I still have my Launch day EVO. Zero problems. Just a few light marks on the edges because of a stupid cheap protective case.
2nd evo here, got my I/o evo in may few months later no more keys now on 004 hardware
On my 2nd..My screen started lifting about a month after I had it, so it had to be replaced.
Rock Solid Since Lauch Day
Bought mine at 9am launch day. Still perfect. Crack on powerbutton. Screen protector immediately and seidio innocase 360 with holster from day 1. Best Phone I ever owned. Can't wait to see what my next upgrade will do.

Wear mark from Dock

Hi Folks,
Well, I've had my TF for a few weeks now and its been great !
I use my Dock almost every day, mainly to provide more juice etc ...
Anyhoo .. i also use a Poetic case on the pad which i rarely take off, even when its docked. Today though i noticed a wear mark on the rear of the tablet and couldnt figure out where it came from .. untill i noticed that its in the same place the dock bracket edge is
It seems to effect one side more then the other (Right side... Left if you look at it from the back )
Has anyone else noticed this? .. The felt inside the dock bracket is still there so i dont know why it would cause it to rub ... and its only been a few weeks !!

rly ... remove the ASUS Model sticker
im still rocking my stickers too its been months
OP: Now that you mention it, I do notice some spots on the back of my tab that aren't as shiny as the rest of it. Thanks for pointing out something I probably would never have noticed. >.<
Seriously, though-- I don't really care at this point. Perhaps I would if it was noticeably discolored.

Why for? I still have mine on.
I have used the dock everyday for atleast 2 months, sometimes inserting and removing several times a day and I dont see anything. Guess I'm lucky
Sent from my Infuse... Love it!
saw the one at bestbuy and that one is marked pretty badly.
I have the same thing on the same side of my tablet as the OP.
My guess is that adding a little padding like a small piece from a micro-fiber cloth on each side of the dock may prevent further wear.
I know there is a felt-like material already there, but beefing up the padding may help. I haven't done anything to it
since it doesn't seem to be too severe.
Im going to do the same :-( its wierd it doesnt seem to happen with everyone though.
Small differences in manufacturing are to blame, its not really something they'd be able to see when making the device.
I also have a dock that does not lay flat when the tablet is docked and opened, it teeters a tiny bit and if it is on an uneven surface it will pivot around unless I hold it down.
Seriously... you are worried about cosmetic issues!
I'd be more concerned if my TF was overusing the battery, or the wifi reception was poor and dropping out of service.
Had it been a case of the screen was coming away from the casing or one of the ports was failing then yes I would understand.
Surely the basic operation is what you should be concerned about... not how it looks.

Alls im saying is its not supposed to wear like that within a few weeks.

Screen banding. Possibly could be fixed in certain ROMs, but definitely an issue you should get it replaced for.
Had this first time today ....if it won't happen again not an issue ... My galaxy nexus when battery was dying screen was going off like an EMP just hit it ... Not worried yet ...

Well yeah, if you're going to be a **** about it no one is going to go to your thread.
And I wouldn't exactly link dead pixels and this banding together.
I have this same issue on my N4....not as bad as yours but under certain conditions vertical banding is observable (generally when at 100% brightness). Having it replaced this week.
I don't think that is banding. Banding is whole a other thing. Very common on Panasonic plasmas and some LCD TV's. Those seem to be GPU going whack lines. Or possibly some bad interference and it showing up as that. But if I had to put money on it I would guess broker or going bad adreno 320's.

Just noticed something like this on my screen. It's very (very) faint and only shows up against gray backgrounds but the pattern is pretty similar. If it gets worse I'm going to contact Google.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium HD app
I'll be contacting google soon, only have my phone on me and I'm on Tmobile's web exclusive plan so only have 100 minutes to talk and I'm not spending them on a 30 min hold. I'll update everyone on the situation.
I had something similar. I turned on the phone and it was just a black screen, and those lines started showing up. Turned the phone off/on and it hasn't done it since. But now I got red pixels that show up by the notification and navigation bars. They disappear once I touch the screen. It doesn't happen allot so I'm not sure if I want to return it
Replacement is being shipped, should take 3-5 days from what I was told.
I had this same issue last week. Except my left top corner was really bright. It persisted after reboot. Hasn't happened since.
same problem here but with blurred display
I too had the same problem with my nexus 4 but i dropped it from a foot height. The display suddenly got blurred and these vertical lines started to appear.can anyone tell me Whether LG accepts this under warranty or I have to pay for it?

[Q] Problem with Note 4 SpO2 sensor?

Does anyone have a problem with SPO2 readings? I have no issue with Heart Monitor but when I try to use SPO2, it fails 99% of the times (today it's 100% ).
I am not convinced if it's software or hardware issue, since i don't know if it is the same sensor. Does anyone have the same issue?

I've used the O2 sensor several times and feel it is registering a little low on occasion. It registered me at 70% one time, which I would think I would notice. Most of the time it registers 95% or higher, but I still think I am at 100%. I do have a thicker case on mine, Spigen Tough Armor, which recessed the sensor heavily. When I remove the case the sensor works fine.

I always get 98-100% , seems like it is working fine.
Finally I decided to give it to Samsung Support. I will let you know (for the record) if it was my fault
Im having the exact same issue that you are, Maverick. I have tried dozens of times to get an spO2 reading and I have not gotten a single positive reading. I would very much appreciate hearing what samsung support tells you.
Also having problems with mine. Takes about 5 attempts to get a reading

Just a friendly word of warning/advice

Quick charge and heat are something we all know about. We also should know that hot glass and cold weather do not mix!!!!!!! Unplugged my phone from charging as I was walking out the door heading to work, tossed my phone in my shirt pocket, walked out the door it was about 29 or 30 degrees outside, heard a small TINK sound from my pocket, thought to myself WTF, pulled out my phone, glass had broken in an almost straight line from speaker hole to speaker hole, then it broke from side to side, and my heart broke as I was forced to watch in horror as it slowly spiderwebbed 2/3 of the screen while I held it in my hand.

That sucks. Probably a reason to RMA. My phone never gets that hot when charging though. Plus 30 degrees F isn't that cold.

I'd try Google or Motorola. However, you'll have a hard time proving that this is not the result of a drop and it's seems to be a very rare case/issue. My phone has seen temperature drops from room to 5 degrees F. Sorry for you, mate.

Phone was almost dead had plugged it in an hour or so prior to leaving it was at about 90% so it was pretty warm in the 2 seconds I took to unplug it and walk out the door with it. I know that was what caused it simply from the initial break from speaker hole to speaker hole. everything else happened after that......I did notice,,I have big hands as you can tell from the photo, when I hold the phone as I would when talking on it, the places that my fingers rest on the sides of the phone is where the most damage happened or where the spiderweb went to the most. But you are correct I really have no desire to spend half the day on the phone with the NOPE people and just end up pissed off the rest of the day.

That really sucks. People, keep in mind that the internals of the phone what's up nicely with the Quick Charge 2.0, even more so than phones that charge slower. Ever took a glass dish from the oven and run cold water over it? The extreme charge I'm temperature shatters it instantly.
This is really a worst-case scenario. Good luck to you and getting it fixed.
That's shocking that the temperature difference was that dramatic. The phone does get hot from charging and normal use, and I could see if you put it in the fridge or is was subzero, but that's incredible.
My screen cracked due to freezing temps couple months ago, not fun. Most likely because of the metal frame, such an inferior material for phones.
Should of course have realised not to keep it in an outside pocket, was around -35F. Never ever has this been a problem with plastic framed phones though, for me at least.
