[Q] First time user for X8 and Android. - XPERIA X8 General

Hi, I m Nelson from Malaysia.
I used to be a Nokia user, having 3 Nokia phones before and now 1st time changing to X8 android..
I just bought a Black Xperia X8 (Android 2.1) as they said this is the best cheapest Android phone now in the market.
But I am totally stranger for android and even to Sony Ericsson phone.. Never used it before..
Also I am a totally technology idiot and do not really understand the term that used on the device..
I had rooted my X8 with superoneclick.
And now, I am trying to partition my sd card and install app2sd or link2sd?
Really not sure about what should I really do and really do not understand the code that shown in the thread.
Also, as I said, i am totally an idiot for technology, so I dont really know how to search the forum for my questions.
Thus, I am not wanna spamming the forum, just wanna seek an answer for my questions.
1)- What should I do after I rooted my phone? Anything else I should install for it, for example: Root Explorer.. or is there anything else I should do?
2)- Why should we partition our sd card and how to partition sd card? (p/s: I am using Mac)
3)- Then to install apps in my sd card, is it I had to install app2sd? Or is there any other way? How?
4)- As I go through the forum, I saw about this ROM thing. What is ROM? Is it necessary to have it?
5)- How can i make my X8 a cooler and a better device? I hope I can use the phone as long as I can as I do not want to change other phone for at least several years?
Well, i actually do not know what to ask else as I am totally new first timer to X8 and Android, and also to the technology world.
I am just a geek who watch TV and movies all the time, and never really explore the technology devices before.
So, can anyone help me by answering me with the simplest way to my question?
Or if there is already answer for my question, can anyone help me by giving me the link to it?
Really a BIG thank you for everyone out there who can help me here.
And a BIG sorry if this thread was treated as a spam.
Thank you very much.
Nelson.

5;you can make your device better if u install custom roms.easy to to it,install xrecovery(search in the threads, how to),then take a look to the android development thread. Good luck
Sent from my Sony Ericsson X8 using XDA App

Well, as I looked through the forum or even other forum again.. I found is it actually quite difficult to partition sd card on Mac for fat32 and ext2 to install app2sd..
Or is there another way to partition sd card using mac? Thanks.

you shoud instal xRecovery, to put a custom ROM on your xperia, to use Android 2.2 or 2.3 (a custom ROM is an Android wich is taken form a HTC device) I did it and I am very happy with my xperia!
you have all the custom ROM on XDA
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11679634#post11679634
and here is xRecovery for x10 is the same way for x8

[Q] Easiest to follow Android on HD2 guide?

I've read through most of the guides now & to be honest don't understand a lot of them & as well as which my HD2 is (was) UK TMobile & factory unlocked then debranded (after a lot of help on here) by me
I'm not a complete idiot (close to) when it comes to technical things but this is my first HTC phone & I was considering selling it for the Desire HD when I read that the HD2 with the WP7 Android software was every bit as good.
I can see there are two versions one being on an SD card & one using the phones memory. Is there a very simple guide or should I steer clear?
Thanks for your help in advance guys

I also would like to know since i just pick up a HD2 as my backup phone. I would prefer to have android and no windows on this phone.
I'm very familiar with flashing and android since my primary phone is a Vibrant.
sorry for hijacking your thread OP since i see no reason to create another thread asking almost the same question.

No probs matey
I'm new to this too but I understand that you can run Android on your SD card (at least 4gb class 4 Sandisc from what I read - although I opted for 16gb Class 4 MicroSDHC for about £15) if you want to keep Winmo on your phone system.
NAND builds replace your winmo operating system completely.
I read its not a bad idea to keep androis on SD as you can use Winmo to update builds that may have bugs or improvements.
I see today that there's a guy buidling a multi-android boot up so as your phone starts I guess you can choose Winmo or choose from a few android builds, depending on what each build gives you.
Some builds have everything but are slow, some are thin on features but fast.
I'm yet to install one so I can't speak with any knowledge - I'm hoping to do it today using this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881958
Good luck.
Cheers
Thanks for that Darrell, I had read that guide but had been told that installing on the SD cards slowed up the phone so was really after installing on the phones memory
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893948
might want to read that if you havent already
Thanks Richy - hadn't seen that one!
I'm thinking of getting an HD2 phone used to install Android too. I'd probably want to run it on the SD so that WM6.5 or WP7 can be run on the NAND.
Where did you read it was slower on the SD ?

Give this a try ..

The only limitation of that FAQ is that it doesn't have a clockworkmod guide which some of the NAND roms use.

Ok I've found a guide that I can follow
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11215136&postcount=8
Two things if someone can help please though
I've decide on either JDMS or PRJ Build Nands but.............
1. I can't find out how to downgrade from SPL-3.03 or find the relevant files?
2. I've just managed to debrand the phone using HSPL2, will this affect anything or the steps which have to be done?
Thanks guys

T9193 telstra hd2 for android

Hello guys, iv'e been tossing it up if i should install wp7 or android on my phone and i've decided to go with android. The closest thing i've done like this is hacking a psp. I just want a sd install at the moment. Running the t9193 model i don't want to lose the reception i get with it. is their a good tutorial specifically for this model?
just use the search option of this forum, there's plenty of tut's available, you also might check youtube as there are lots of tutorials there
good luck
Can someone please help me, i've used the search option, google youtube and i am still at a loss here, i honestly can't believe how hard this has been. I've not ever hacked my hd2 or any mobile for that matter. I am unfamiliar with any programs used. To my understanding their are two ways of installing Android on the hd2, sd card method and the nand method. i simply want to install through the sd method so i can try out Android and see if it's worth going Nand. I have had unbelievable bad luck at finding a complete tutorial for a 100% noob at this. If someone could post a link to one or even a place for me to get started and learn what to do would be of great help.
It's easy! Just go to the sub-form "HD2 Android Development" and choose your build! Usually on the first page is a introduction on the build itself, what it can do, what it cant etc etc. Then once you're happy with the one you choose, download it, extract the archive, drag the extracted Android folder to the root of your SD card.(i.e D:\)Then on Windows Mobile, use the file explorer and navigate to the Android Folder. Then Press Clrcad.exe once (nothing will happen but make sure you click it) and then press Haret.exe and it should start booting into Android. Now from here you just have to wait about 10-15 min for Android to make a new Data.img and get everything set up. Any problems from there you're going to have to ask the developer of the build you choose.
Best Rom?
What do you guys think would be the best SD rom for this model or best SD rom in general?
Try installing different ROM's and you will choose yourself, which ROM is the best for you
Do you want a sense Rom or a senseless Rom?
Try it,its so easy to try SD builds and it Wong ARM your phone..

Sorry but its not really hard to download a file and put them on the root of your SD card now, is it? You WON'T brick your phone doing this.

Im Rooted, what to do next

hi apologies for nooby title but it would be great to use this thread for people new to rooting
ive finally rooted my phone and i have xrecovery and busybox with wifi tether what other apps are great on a rooted phone also what benefits are there to adding a custom rom to an x8 i heard a new rom equals flash but with the x8 arm6 chip its not possible,i know that a new rom offers speed, is that it.
also is there n easy way to add app 2 sd feature because theres a thread on how to do this by editing an ini file which sounds dodgy
Hello
Well, now when you're rooted do you have access to the whole phone..
You can download Set Cpu to be able to set your Cpu to handle like you want..
About the ROM are they 3(?) stable ones out and you can find those in the X8 Development Section with good instructions on how to install
I'm currently using Rachts 2.3.3 Cm7 Rc4 and I'm loving it except for the no camera so all QR codes are nothing to have right now
Just remember to be carefull! You can brick your phone!
I've done it 3 times and you can find here what to do: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011071
thanx.rose i have complete root access to phone .noticed you bricked your phone 3 times lol that happened to me after having my phone two days thats why i like rooting now because i can undo it ,well most of it .what features does the 3 stable roms offer.
I personally think the minicm or rachts froyo are having the most features bus I'm not sure..
There's an own topic just about that here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1019146
Take a look there and you'll also found other topics just about it
The 2.3.3 ROM:s are really going forward so take a look those also
Thanks again risen. I think ill try yachts Rom I think it has app2sd support
All new custom ROM for x8 suppotts native apps2sd. Just required rooted and xrecovery. Always backup your system and sd card before applying customs to your phone. Have fun

[Q] Install CUstom rom without external SD

Hi Guys its been a long time since I visited the forum since Xperia X1 came out basicly! ok my question is quite simple since I didnt seem to find it in the forum I figured I should ask! Is it possible to install a custom rom on Ideos X5 without and actual external SD card? since I just got my hands on the phone and havent yet bought one!
Thanks in Advance
Regards,
It is possible, the partition table must be changed and it should work.
I actually wanted to add this option to my recovery, but I am trying to fix a bug first.

buy an sd
i would suggest you to go out and buy an sd card its not that expensive anyway 15 euros 8gb because you should really make a backup of your current rom because if anything goes wrong you are gonna really need it has saved me many times, trust me dont hurry things.
CLICK THANKS if you find this useful.

Hi community :D

Hi all.
I hope I won't got bashed too hard for being a noob.
Yes,I'm a total noob. The reason I'm here is because I am jealous of my sister's new Galaxy S4 phone and it's beautiful.I was like,"Samsung, you only cared for your new phones and ditch the old ones behind".
So,I decided to install a new ROM for my SGY.
Now guys, when answering me,please assume that I'm a total,I mean totally noob. I don't really understands the Android OS.
Just assume that I'm a country guy who is having a Nokia 3310 as my previous phone and 1 year ago,I bought SGY because people say smartphone are cool.
Note that previously,I only use my SGY for facebook, angry birds, phone call and messages.I don't know anything about flashing ROM etc.
So for this few days,I decided to dig deeper into my phone and see what's inside for this holiday week.
And these are what I want to do:
1)Understand the OS.
2)Root my phone( what should I do before, during and after rooting? like making back ups etc)
3)Clock Work Mod(What's this? I heard it before but I don't know what is this)
4)Install a new ROM.(I've seen hyperion 8 was the best ROM so far,but do suggest me if there are better ones, the Beats music driver,Bravia engine caught my attention.)
So,kind community, please help me step by step, and provide me guides on how to complete these things.Much appreciated. Good day

1.) google "android os"
2.) have a look at guides so you can better understand the whole rooting process, use the search function on xda to help you out
3.) it's a custom recovery (again use the search function for more info)
4.)hyperion is a BANNED rom! It's not the best rom and no rom is considered best since each has it's unique features (except copy/pasted roms). Choose which rom suits you and your needs best.
Again search is your friend, you'll find much faster answers that way.

1. as far as android OS is concerned it will take you some to understand everything about it. So keep reading here as much as you can to understand about it.
2. Rooting allows user to access all features of your rom and add or remove some features of rom. also it lets you modify your system easily. it is just like the administrator account of your pc in which you can do anything.
3. ClockWorkMod is custom recovery for our devices which allows us to create backup, restore them and many other features that stock recovery doesn't offers. When you install a custom rom you need this foe installation.
4. Everyone has his on tastes so better try custom roms by your own and see if you like them or not
