Heavy battery drain in sleep possible culprit - Atrix 4G General

Hi guys, last night I charged my battery to 100% before I slept to check the battery drain in sleep.
After ~7 hours of sleep, my indicator was showing 80%.
Spare showed that sensor usage by android system was equal to the phone sleep time. Its been 20 mins since I'm using my phone, and the sensor usage is still going on. Looks like some sensor got enabled n is not getting disabled.
My brightness is set to 0, n not at auto.

That mode is only for data sync. Not for sensor usage.
I have data sync on two gmail accounts all time. Captivate used to have like 1% per ~2 hours sleep time. So I think something else is in here.

There might be an issue with kernel or rom too. A similar bug was present in the gallery app supplied by Samsung on captivate where the sensor won't turn off until reboot

[Q] does the battery suppose to drain even in standby mode?

I am concerned about the battery life of my exchanged tab. The first tab I had has great battery life but had some sound issues that's why I replace it. But now I have this new tab but battery is draing fast even not using heavily. I am charging the tab whole night. I did not even has email account setup so its not retrieving any emails. Any suggestions to improve battery life please?
Is your wifi and GPS running at all times?
If you have rooted the tab try using an overclock tool to reduce the load, this should increase the battery life. Until then we are gonna have to wait for a custom honeycomb ROM that increases battery life. If its as bad as you say it is I would try another tablet and hope you dont get another thats messed up.
GL
No the tablet is not rooted but its factory unlocked. How do I know if the tablet is rooted?
It would only be rooted if you rooted it
Mine barely drains with screen off and Wifi on with everything syncing at the same time.. I can go like 2 days average use on my tab so far.
so it seems like there is an hardware issue. Diversion is your tab unlocked or locked?

Forever is an understatement.
I have different battery experience than the OP. I keep my wifi on constantly. On standby with little use (~0.5 hour today), the battery went from 100% to 93% since morning to midnight.
I think it's your unit. I use mine for about a total of 4 to 5 hours a day with wifi and bt at a fixed 75% brightness and when it goes into standby I only lose about 1% every 2 hours. Usually by the end of the day I'm at about 70% battery with a low of 50%.

Have you checked the battery usage to see if any apps are using a lot of battery? (Settings -> About Tablet -> Battery Use)
Mine was at 98% when I went to bed last night and at 94% about 7 hours later this morning. That's with wifi, bluetooth and GPS on, and GMail syncing (but not much else).
all of you guys whose battery has no issue do you guys have tab with locked or unlocked boot-loader. Mine is unlocked and i think because of that battery is discharging fast. Snoopstah i check the settings battery use is screen, browser (which is closed), wifi, android OS thats about it. Please let me know what should i do i have one more day to exchange it.
Thank you all
Exchange it. The battery life in standby mode is stellar. Mine's unlocked too and I lose 2% all night with everything on.
The bootloader on mine is unlocked, and came that way. In either case, that should not affect battery life, though I could imagine how rooting would possibly allow you to install or turn on something that would drain your battery faster (and is left off by default).
Just as an aside, what brightness setting do you guys use on your tabs? Somebody mentioned 75% and that seems super bright to me. I keep my brightness at around 20% or so. Auto brightness is way too dim on this thing. I look forward to some development action on this thing, the ability to customize the auto-brightness levels in CM7 on my Captivate is really awesome.
I have the same battery draining. I can only get 6 hours of straight usage with 20 on brightness. I'll exchange mine today. My zoom can last 8 hours straight of usage

I have no battery issue when in stand by mode and my tab is unlocked and the wifi policy is set to stay on. I drain about 3% per 7 hrs which is excellent.

Doze not what expected

When I got my N6P, I had expected standby time to be amazing thanks to Android Doze. My first day of use shows a lot of "awake" activity during the time when the phone is sitting on my bed side table, completely motionless.
Has anyone else had experience with their N6P doing the same? Am I doing something wrong that caused Doze to never activate?
As a frame of reference, when I went to bed the phone was at 47%. I took the screenshots when I woke up this morning.
Sorry if this is a silly question, but you have activated it haven't you?

I activated mine when my phone arrived. Settings>battery then use the battery menu and select battery optimisation.
Very frustrating reading replies that say Doze must somehow be turned on. It DOES NOT have to be turned on. It's interwoven into Marshmallow automatically.
You can tinker with battery optimizations within the phone's battery settings, but that's about it.
Note: If your phone needs to conduct maintenance (update apps over WiFi, etc.) doze may not kick in the way you think. If your phone has nothing to do and is sitting still for an extended period of time, it'll enter Doze and only sip battery.
You can try greenify beta it has aggressive doze when screen goes off, just whitelist the apps you need to notify you immediately.

Sorry, my bad. Battery optimisation is separate from doze then?
I'm seeing the same problem. 20% depleted in 7 hours overnight just sitting on my nightstand. Deep sleep in better battery stats showed 95%. Not sure what's going on.
How's your charging speed? It's nowhere close to what others are seeing. Even though it shows rapid charging, the amount of time to fully charge is high. 3 hours from 25%. 45 mins from 85% etc. Are you getting fast charging times? I can understand some process binging on my battery while running. I'm getting no more than 3 to 4 hours screen on time. But I don't understand why I would have slow charging times. But if you are also seeing slower charging time, then perhaps it could be.

Doze works great for me. For example, during the night, I only lose like 3 percent battery life. That's pretty freaking low. It's like I went to sleep at 75% and woke up at 72%. Very effective imo.
By the looks of it, doze should be on by default. Going into settings/battery/battery optimization-just shows which are optimized and which aren't. It's not an on/off thing.
The only apps I can't optimize is Android OS and dm service. What's dm service anyway

Unfortunately, that's done nothing. Lost 5% in 1 hour just sitting. BBS shows 76% in deep sleep. Screen on 1%. Awake (Screen off) 25%.
This was about 5 hours untouched on my table last night... Working fine...
The the thing I don't really like about doze is, it only works if the phone is flat on a table... Any type of movement, be it in pocket or even on the car dash, it won't come into play...

That horiztonal bar (a clear indication of Doze) just doesn't happen when leaving my phone overnight. The "awake" bars at the bottom of the battery screen in Settings is also switching on and off periodically when the phone should be dozing.
Does that mean a third-party app is the cause?

My guess is yes, some app is staying awake.
It would also explain slow charging....something is eating up CPU cycles and preventing the phone from idling down and sleeping.
It isnt just a 6P thing either....my LG G2 with numerous ROMs/kernels has occasionally experienced issues like this. Almost 100% of the time it could be traced to an app that was misbehaving. You can use a battery tracking app (GSM battery monitor, better battery stats, etc) to get more detailed info. If you arent rooted Im not sure how detailed the info can get, but its probably a lot better than the stock battery graph.

I'm not so sure, the OnePlus would drop 3-4 percent overnight and would be showing signs of Doze working. The mate 20 Pro stays awake even if the phone is not touched the whole time loose about 10 percent overnight

At 100% there is an overcharge - 100%-99% lasts as long as 80-75%. What if you left your device off charge for the night without charging?
I charge in the morning for 30-40 mins and leave overnight at 25 wake up with 15-17.

So from 2250 to 0650 I had drain of 6% or ~252mah. Power saver and ultra power saver turned off.
For reference 6% on the one of 6 is 198mah and 4% which is the drain I get on my OnePlus 6 is 132mah. So almost double the battery drain on the mate 20 pro
I wonder if the big cores still kick in during sleep. This is a 7nm chip, my assumption is that only the four Cortex-A55 cores should run during sleep.
I use timely alarm clock and setting that as an app on ultra power save mode it didn't go off yesterday.
I can try power save mode tonight, as a last resort I could turn it off and schedule on 1 hour before alarm

I guess more of a question that a straight answer: What kind of battery improvement do you see when
- switching to FHD+ over QHD+
- darker theme, animations off
- manual app power management & launch
- VoLTE & High Speed LTE mode turned off
- fingerprint reader off (I guess hover-over-screen function drains?)
- Bluetooth, other antennae off
- removing/freezing whatever unused stock app (like Health) possible
- alternate launcher, battery saving apps
I 4 percent battery drain over night in 8 hours. Per saving off, Bluetooth on, Wi-Fi on, mobile data on. Quite good, I think.

Standby is terrible to be honest. Drains almost 1 - 1.5% per hour just lying on table. Pixel 2 used to drain 0.5 to 0.75% in an hour
I get usually 0.6% / hour overnight drain. I'll wake up with about 95%. Phone face down with AOD so it goes off. Once in a while an app will keep the phone awake unbeknownst to me until the morning. Either I restart or force close the app and it goes away. If you're getting higher drain than that you should check your apps keeping the phone awake with screen off. BBS is really good for that.

If it takes that long then it doesn't work. I had it on since day one, whenever that was, and turned it off a couple of days ago. Adaptive battery should be labeled accelerated battery drain at this point. It was a nice thought but it simply doesn't work. Now if they acknowledge the mess up and say they fixed it well then I'd try it again. Until then..
Okay guys, let's try to see if leaving Adaptive Battery on for 2 weeks would give us some what better SOT or standby. I've started yesterday.
However, as to share, my first week I kept switching between on/off and it is LEGIT that leaving it on is such a culprit! funny enough!

Standby time is not the best part of the pixel...
As I said earlier on another subject. When charging the Pixel 3 100% its takes 1% in less than 5 min compared to Pixel 2 and Nexus 6P its take over 30 min. So i think OS Pie is not good for battery

s10 plus Battery draining

Ehy everyone, for some reason it feels to me that my battery life on my s10 plus sucks.
I got it 2 weeks ago.
I did a test and charged up to 100%, went to sleep with 100% and woke up with 93% battery..
In addition to that, my previous phone Galaxy a7 2017, could hold on 100% like 5 minutes even when using the phone, my s10 plus goes from 100 to 96 in like few mintues..
I added a screenshot from my battery usage

Oh and btw, ive read about the Voip battery drain but i dont do any whatsapp calls or such..

I put mine on airplane mode at 50% before bed wake up its 49% , I've found I get better battery life from quick hrs or so charge rather than charging through the night , also it learns your charging habits apparently , but that's a big drain poss a app is root cause do you put on airplane mode at night ?

Your phone should work like a charm, those devices should behave a certain way, either it is a bug or something you might be doing wrong or an app setting coming from a backup restoration.
It is a voip call, google a little. I had deep sleep for 7 days, yesterday i made a call, and since then phone didnt go to deep sleepz so i restarted it and now it is as before... It is fixed in march update. Buying a phone that costs 1000+ $ and turning 50% of options off is ridiculous.

And cpu usage
Oh and btw, ive read about the Voip battery drain but i dont do any whatsapp calls or such..
Any help?

Mine was poor but after 5 days did pick up. Had to change some settings. However, I can't put a picture on as says this feature has been disabled by your administrator. Xda app
Sent from my SM-G975F using XDA-Developers Legacy app
The latest firmware update solve the VoIP CPU-lock issue. But i am still experiencing mild battery drain, when i sleep with 100% batt, i closed all apps and cleared them from the ram and still get 93% when i wake up after 8hours of idle time. No idea how to solve this, checked the CPU its on "sleep/idle" mode the entire 8hours but somehow -7% battery.
I turned off VoIP, location and put the phone to medium power saving mode. It got better.
Edit: I am not having any performance issues with medium battery saving. %70 brightness, limited CPU, FHD screen resolution.
