Motorola have some lazy workers - Xoom General

I know the sdk was just released for developers but motorola has had it for awhile. I wonder why they did not release a single app? I say a very lazy move on motorola's end. Oh and by the way I love this tablet I am addicted to it.

I think because its a Google Experience device it doesn't come with any extra apps, just the stock ones.

Ya I didn't expect for them to have a ui on top of honeycomb but a single app would of been cool.

Maybe I am just being picky.

Lazy means..... being the first honeycomb tablet to market?... its a google experience... have u seen motoblur...... you do not want that on your phone....
What app did you program? you lazy?

Wait, haven't people always been complaining that Motorola keeps putting software on their devices?
I dunno about you, but I prefer when Motorola doesn't do anything to their ROMs. It delays updates, and its never good software anyways.

i agree, moto can keep their hands off the software portion.

I'm glad they left it alone. No bloatware is fine by me!

on wp7 HTC made some nice apps for their phones. You don't have to use them but they are good apps. I am not talking about a ui like blur or sense.

No thanks to any bundled apps from the manufacturer, as all of that is stored in read-only system memory. If I want a weather widget, I'll write it myself or get one from the Market.

you're damned if you do, and damned if you don't

Bundled Apps
I would be fine with bundled applications, as long as I have the option to uninstall the apps I don't want.

Just glad they didn't force Motoblur on it.

This. Some of the manufacturer apps are nice but most of them are waste of space.
anyways, count me in to the people that are happy there is no motoblur on our xooms.

Where are the apps?

I understand that logmein is coming, but where is weatherbug? Does anyone have the xoom version? I download it from the market and it is identical to the version that I have on my DX. Is it out yet? When is it coming? Etc.
I dunno, but this is definately the place to ask.

Weatherbug for honeycomb is not out yet. Its still in beta stage and can't be downloaded.
Logmein for Android works fine for now.
I haven't had too many problems for most apps. Not ideal but they work for the moment.

Actually Logmein doesn't work at all. It won't connect to the machine. They say that they are aware and an update is coming, but no timeline as to when.

Guys, this is the first Honeycomb device that came out yesterday. The full SDK just came out 3 days ago. Its gonna take a little time before we see tablet apps. Just give it a little time! they will come.

Especially considering that Google implemented the "Fragments UI" idea in the latest SDK. From my understanding, this will allow the devs to make apps that work with both tablets and phones, where the UI will scale to different sizes for the different areas, instead of having 2 different apps.

Does that mean that the apps will be larger so I can download even fewer of them to my limited Nexus One storage?

Ok I'm gonna post a new thread devoted to this, I'm SURE someone on XDA must have found a leaked version of this beta apk, because not having it straight away is unacceptable . This is by FAR the app that I've been looking forward to with the Xoom. I'd gladly trade Flash for the next few months before the Weatherbug app! (hate me if you want, whatever)

Adding in the Fragments UI concept is only a few limited lines of code to allow scaling. Doesn't mean that the size of the apps will necessarily be any bigger. Don't forget, theres always Apps2SD
If having scalable UI means that the apps will be slightly bigger but completely functional, it's worth it.

Agreed, however this one is a different story, as it is an app that IS already in the Market, but some sort of glitch (either at the Weatherbug end or the Google end of things) isn't allowing it to be downloaded and installed. After all, as far as the Weatherbug site is concerned, this beta app *should* be fully available for download at this moment. At any rate I just sent an email in to the folks at Weatherbug as I'm quite sure they'd want to know about this so that they can communicate with Google to sort out the problem and make sure their app is fully available.

[Q] What to do when I get it.

Hi I am in Canada and i just preordered the xperia play. Just wanted to know what is like the first things i should do when i get it? (im moving from an iphone to this). What are great android apps that i should download and such.
regards,
First android device huh? Well... Custom home screen would be number one, specially coming from iPhone, get something like launcher pro as it's my favorite, very customizable, but it might be a little much at first if you are in culture shock.
Emulators is a big plus and benefit to me if that's your thing. Almost everything on iPhone has it's android alternative except for a couple popular games. Is there a list of your favorite iPhone apps and maybe we can identify the android counterpat
thanks for the quick reply. games arent really my worry as im fine with going around trying new ones. things i wanted to know is if i can disable timescape and other useless addons. does the keyboard work fine or can i install some app to get the swype keyboard or something better? and that app you mentioned sounds cool, will definately try it.
regards

Swype is my favorite keyboard replacement, the stock android one is good, but I heard the one that comes with this might suck a bit maybe? Better keyboard is a skin able keyboard replacement and you can skin it to look/feel like the iPhones.
As far as disabling stuff, you can to a point, but without root access (like jail breaking) you can't touch some of the lower level services. Home replacement is what I think you will want though, get launcher pro or adw launcher. Adw being very themeable. Launcher pro having more polish/settings.
sounds cool. so ill definetly look at swype. how exactly does launder pro work? does it replace everything? (ie timescape)?

It will replace your entire homescreen and everything that's one it - it won't however replace other parts of your system like the Timescape gallery, keyboard or music player. However, all those things are replaceable as well with many alternatives in the market and over here.
Emulators, Emulators, Emulators i say!

Also check out all these games with surprort for Xperia Play. make sure to download the specific versions in some cases.

A lot of people want it on their phones, but what is it, and what makes it so good? Is it an aosp type rom kind of like cyanogen. Thanks and forgive the noobnes of the question.

Just another rom, just one with some serious eye candy. 2 things really turn me off of this rom. Its closed source nature (you never know what kind of **** is in there), and the fact it is chinese (which gives me serious doubts about the security of it).
Its slick looking tho.
Yes, it's an AOSP-based rom.
its like Android + Iphone + CIQ + Nike + Great Fire Wall of China
Yeah, I had heard it was chinese, which kind of turned me off to the idea. But other than that, just another aosp rom huh? I just don't understand why people go crazy over it. I've seen what it looks like...nothing special really. Thanks for the info though.

It removes the app draw and puts every icon on the main screen, you can move them around, but clutters things.
It's themes are a great concept and look great if you're into what's available.
It messaging app sucks cajones, that's my general opinion.

I bet your shoes are made in China. Do you trust them? It's in English and has no spyware, or CIQ. The port for this phone however has several key features missing and no offense to the devs, it isn't quite ready for daily use. No builds have 4G. Epic's has unstable 3G, WiFi, GPS, and camera. The Devs are working hard though and trying to give us something to use.

Verizon Xperia Play App Drawer?

Hey guys, i'm going to be purchasing an xperia play (my first android/smart phone whoo!) soon and I've done my fair share of research over this phone and i've gone to the verion store to check it out, and i like it a lot, but there's just one thing that bothers me. What happened to the app drawer? I know it's stock gingerbread therefore it should have the same app drawer that the Nexus S has, but it doesn't seem the same, the reason I say this is because when you scroll up and down through the apps, it doesn't give you that "cube" like effect, what happened?

Download the Gingerbread launcher, push it to /system/app and delete the default launcher. Problem solved This isnt ios You know
I don't have the Verizon edition so could be COMPLETELY wrong but perhaps it's enable-able in a settings?
Even if not the other comments are right - think of it this way. It's not that it doesn't have the cube effect, it's that you need to install it via the market - Launcher Pro or Gingerbread Launcher should both have it (ADW too maybe?)
If you get that phone you can definitely get the effect your looking for

I think the ones in older Sense devices just logs crashes in apps though, while the one in new Sense devices logs everything, giving the old one less important info, and leaving the new one far more vulnerable.
Isn't this where droidwall or the like comes into play? Removal is always best but blocking those unwanted apps from accessing data should be commonplace.
