I have no clue how to use xml scripting, but I need XDA_UC to be able to automatically set up two GMail accounts (one with a custom domain) as well as an exchange server automatically.
I tried using the guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=795711
However, while it showed how to do these things, it didn't show how to combine them into one large xml (or will multiple xmls work?) that will be all run at once.
Please help streamline my Obsessive FoneFlashing Disorder!
Have you tried searching about how to set up xml email accounts?

I know there are other hacks out there for this, but they have left something to be desired - like not working for newer Kaiser builds. Specifically, HTC used a CNAME to one of their own DNS servers and thus the previous patch that has been distributed here would not fit in the available string space.
The other method, using "Pocket Hosts", does not appear to work on either my Kaiser or Wizard to redirect HTC Home or Manila2D - not sure why, but it doesn't do anything - I tried that as well. My system never sees any packets coming from the mobile when I use the "hosts" soltuion - so it appears that actually patching the string is required, at least in modern (WINCE 6.1) builds.
Anyway, I registered a different domain, then "rolled my own" on that quite-short URL to allow patching some of the Manila2D.exe files that otherwise would not fit, using the existing script from Not2advancd (with a few changes to suit my environment, which is apparently very different than his) and some additional back-end hackery on my systems.
The site is at http://htcwx.org, and there are links there for two ZIP files (attached to this post as well) for two different versions of Manila2D.exe - one that is cooked into the HyperDragon Kaiser build, and the other for a build (OpenTouch V7.7) on the Herald. Both have been personally verified as working. Instructions for modifying the XML file that controls Manila's Weather program are included at the above URL - the short form is that you simply replicate an existing US city in the correct alphabetical order and using the same format as what's already there, recognizing that this is an XML file and thus may (and in fact does) contain some non-ASCII characters (that is, use something like Notepad to edit it, not something like "Wordpad" that will attempt to interpret what's in there instead of just editing the character stream.)
If you have a Manila2D.exe that is not compressed (that is, its approximately 1MB in size - if its ~400kb or so it IS compressed and I can't work with it) I will make an attempt to patch it for you. Just attach it to this thread (make it a ZIP file and upload it) and I will look at it, comment back on this thread, and if it CAN be patched add it to the master list at the above URL so everyone can get to it. Other versions of Manila (e.g. the newer "3d") version) should also be patchable - again, assuming the executable is not compressed.
The weather server on that URL is on a high-bandwidth commercial connection that I control and is at no material risk of going away. It is available to all who wish to use it.
I ask (but obviously don't require) that Chefs that wish to cook a Manila copy into their work and use this weather server let me know, and if possible let me verify that their cooked version is working properly before releasing it so I can verify that all is well on this end. Doing so should not take long; you can reach me by PM here and I will normally be able to get back with you quickly.
Comments and questions on this welcome, along with requests, but please keep them to THIS THREAD.
Enjoy.

Hi!
I'm an Italian Chef for Niki
I use new manila 2D from iolite (v 1_00_19111733_00), but I can't add my city
Can yuo try to patch this exe for me? (it's not compressed)
Thank yuo very much!
The URLs are not in that file.
What you want to do is change the URL to "http://htcwx.org", leaving the entire rest of the string AFTER that alone (that is, you have to "move down" the parameters on the command that is sent.) Once you've changed the file you have to re-sign the file using the code-signing tools (a self-signed certificate is fine) otherwise it will be detected as having a corrupt signature and refuse to run.
A hex editor such as XVI32 is necessary to do the modification; the code-signing tools are available on the net.
I tried uing that hex edior you mentioned... now I need glasses.
even tried comparing a patched file to the one I am trying to patch.. um still confused. finally found the (maybe, but I am willing to try) HTTP//htc..... but then I still had no idea what to do.
Could you please help me figure it out
when I edit the url do I need to have the boxes between the characters? I am asuming yes.
Do I need to "make space" for http//HTCWX.org/acuweather....
sorry. have no ____ing clue what I am doing... and I think I just lost some brain cells trying.
For various reasons (Hard resets, Phone migratin, wrongly done backups, Change of mailbox name, etc...) I am left after a while with several inbox.mstxxxxxx folders on my SD Card with inside the attachment to my emails & MMS
My Inbox has been rebuilt several times with PIM Bakup so I still ahve, for most of them the emails/MMS linked to tehse attachments
I tried to place all my atachemnets in only one folder, change teh registry to point to this folder for attcahments, untick the box "Save attachments on SD Card", Softreset, retick, soft reset... But Outlook idnt remake the link between attachments & the emails (which I believe is understandable)
Two questions:
1. Any chance to rebuild the link (Maybe soemone has developped some application doing that and I missed it on google...)
2. If not (most likely case), does someone knows of some converter that woudl allow me at least to convert the att file into the origial attachment ? (txt files, pictures, word docs, etc...). That wouldnt be perfect but at least I'd save my documents...
Thanks a lot in advance for your help
Anyone ?
I am sure someone must have figured out (Though Google was not very helpful... mostly returning everything linked to ATT...)
Help !!
I guess it's hopeless
Nobody ? I cant believe I am he only one with interets in this
I should probably stop bumping the thread...
Ok, so I've read through this tutorial (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538513) which is AWESOME, and also viewed the Videos at winmo.
Here's where I'm at: I think I've succesfully got all my cabs over and my email settings via Makisu and XML done.
I used sashimi's backupregistry option and backed up registry to the sashimi backup folder.
by backing up the registry I've backed up all my tweaks from rhodium tweaks app right?
Also, by backing up the registry have I already backed up button settings like PTT remap, turn on when slide disabled, etc?
Here's where I need help: I read through the article but since I'm not as proficient as some, it's a bit confusing and I'm lost as to how to back up my background and manila tabs organization, settings, people, ringtones, programs in the programs tabs, etc.
I read about putting keys into the .ini but two issues: 1) I don't know how to open or edit the ini and 2) if I'm running an energy ROM, are all these keys still in thes same subfolders as the OP for the tutorial labeled the code?
And where can I file registration files? for example, I installed and registered my dictionary but looked through the app folder and am not sure which file is my registration file?
appreciate the help so I can start flashing MORE often....I'm 14 days behind on the Photon series!!
ini can be edited by notepad, if you want, you can use super notepad2 too. Not sure where the registration info will be.
Hi, i personally got 4 email to setup. everytime after a flash, i need to setup all of the email one by one.
i was wondering is there any quicker way that i can do this?
or easiest possible, juz install a cab file mayb? is there such a software that i could create .cab file from all the email settings i wanted, then copy the .cab to ppc and just install then could get all the email running?
The best way I found to do this is Sashami, and its built in XML editor, Makisu. Go here, register, and download Sashami 8. Install it on your device, and open Makisu. Select the Email option, and input all the information about your email accounts as the wizard asks for it. Most email providers have a page which has all of the connectivity information, which details which protocols, ports, etc. are supported, and all that is readily available on Google.
Do this with each email account, and you should end up with a few XML files, which are compatible with most user customization options, which are often integrated in ROMs. If your ROM doesn't have any form of UC or you don't want to use UC, you can make your XML file into a cab file with these directions (skip down to the step called Creating the CAB File, since you already have the XML file made). After you do that, you will have a few cab files (or one cab, if you manually merge all the XML files) which will install your email accounts and preferences.
It may seem like a lot of work now, but it's completely worth it after you never need to set up another email account again.
oh hell yeah.. thx for it bro.. thats is wat i wanted it to be..
Gurus,
I tried searching for this but in vain. I keep flashing all the great roms posted here frequently. And every time i have to configure my email accounts from scratch and this is a real pain. Is there any way to backup the settings like we do in PIM backup and restore upon reflashing the ROM'S?
Help greatly appreciated...
Thanks,
Raj

Same here, what is best method to backup & restore phone settings regardless of what ROM we are using.
What about Microsoft my phone?
get makisu from HERE
(its a plugin to sashimi, but it will run standalone too)
run it, (it may take a few moments to start, be patient) enter your account details, add as many as you like, including wifi settings
tutorial video HERE
copy the xml file it creates (created mine as program files/makisu/makisu.xml)
get the microsoft cabinet sdk from HERE
extract it, and in the BIN folder is an .exe file called makecab.exe
I coppied that file out to its own folder, i dont use anuthing else in the sdk.
put makecab.exe and makisu.xml in a folder together, rename the xml to _setup.xml
open a command line window, and browse to that folder.
(Useful tip for vista/7, with the folder open on screen, hold shift and right click, you will get the option to 'open command window here')
issue the command
makecab /D COMPRESS=OFF _setup.xml mail.cab
(set mail.cab to whatever.cab name you want)
Thats it, copy the cab to your phone and run it when you need to set up your email accounts (and wifi if you set that too, very handy, i've automated 5 email accounts and 3 wifi networks)
(You could also just stop at the xml stage, and next time you hard reset, instal makisu and then choose 'provision xml' and browse to the makisu.xml file and it will install the settings.)
@samsamuel - I've just found this post (after searching for "rename email account"!!) and it's awesome.....just what I've been looking for!! Now I can reload my mail settings whenever I flash....assuming I can find a way to rename the current (incorrect) mail account I just added, otherwise I'll have to go for the delete/re-create option
Thanks again for posting about "makisu" - shame I have to register on yet another forum I'll never use just to get it....unless it's hidden on XDA somewhere?
Mark.
This is all that you guys need.
This will take care of provisioning for Wi-Fi Configs, Email Configs and Certificates.

After you make the xml with the program, how do you access it on the phone for restoration of settings? I don't need it right now but I am making xml's since I have had to hard reset my phone 4x already (and not because I was flashing a ROM) and re-creating all the settings is such a pain. I read into the sashimi and makisu but those apps make my head spin. There has to be a simpler way. Thanks in advance.
Edit: I think I got it. Either I use Makisu to access the xml or make the cab using the post above. If I make the cab and I want to use Quick cab (since it is much easier to use), where does the file install? \Windows?? It was unclear from the previous post since the instructions are for a different cab making utility.

it doesnt install any files anywhere, not in teh way you mean, its just setting/changing/applying settings. Think of the xml file as a script that makes changes as it runs.
For me, i have makisu in my autoinstall folder, so it gets installed at hard reset, and i run teh xml file (also on my sd card) manually when i am ready to apply it. (I flash a lot, so sometimes i dont want email setting up, because i am gonna flash again in a few minutes).
I no longer bother creating the cab, because with the xml file you can just open it in notepad and add anotehr email account, make other small adjustments, whatever, which you cant do with a cab, you have to rebuild the whole thing from scratch. (for some reason wince cab manager cant open that cab.)
Well if you are on a custom rom, every chef support some form of UC or the other (User Customization).
In addition to Sashimi / Makisu you can also use SDConfig.txt & XDA_UC if your ROM supports it.
Google them and you'll find more info.
This looked like it would do the trick. When I run it I get a visual basic error. I have netcf v4 installed. Is there another file required to make this run?
