Help with .att files extension form poutlook attachments - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

For various reasons (Hard resets, Phone migratin, wrongly done backups, Change of mailbox name, etc...) I am left after a while with several inbox.mstxxxxxx folders on my SD Card with inside the attachment to my emails & MMS
My Inbox has been rebuilt several times with PIM Bakup so I still ahve, for most of them the emails/MMS linked to tehse attachments
I tried to place all my atachemnets in only one folder, change teh registry to point to this folder for attcahments, untick the box "Save attachments on SD Card", Softreset, retick, soft reset... But Outlook idnt remake the link between attachments & the emails (which I believe is understandable)
Two questions:
1. Any chance to rebuild the link (Maybe soemone has developped some application doing that and I missed it on google...)
2. If not (most likely case), does someone knows of some converter that woudl allow me at least to convert the att file into the origial attachment ? (txt files, pictures, word docs, etc...). That wouldnt be perfect but at least I'd save my documents...
Thanks a lot in advance for your help

Anyone ?
I am sure someone must have figured out (Though Google was not very helpful... mostly returning everything linked to ATT...)

Help !!

I guess it's hopeless

Nobody ? I cant believe I am he only one with interets in this

I should probably stop bumping the thread...

Data files on SD card not displayed and tdLaunch has no Help

Hope this is the right place for this....
I cooked & downloaded 3.17.03 (from Jeffs Kitchen) and have two problems:
1. When I go into Excell or Word now, I can't see any files that are loaded on the memory card. I have to use File Manager and double click the file I want. I can't find any way to inform Excell where to look either.
2. I also can't find anyway to add programs to the quick launch program (tdLaunch). I went to the authors homepage and dowloaded the PPC 2002 cab file but this won't run on my XDA. Curious that the author doesn't cover this most basic need in the README file. (I can't find any Help file for this even tho' I selected Help Files with all programs I chose to include.
Anyone know the answer to these problems?
A number of the attractive features mentioned in the ROM Kitchen announcement are not present on the version dloaded from Jeff. (Absence of tutorial at start-up, localisation to Central Europe etc, auto-config).
If any of the Developers see this, could they please comment why this is? (other than Jeff is not using the Developers ROM enhancements??)
Many thanks.

Tap "start",...tap "settings".....tap "today"...... at base of screen tap "items"......tap "tdlaunch".........tap "options" you can add, delete, etc from there. Hope this what you are wanting.

Try opening word or excel, at the base of screen tap "tools".....tap "options", take a look in there for the defaults for saving and viewing files. Might help.

No dice on that one unfortunately. Even tho' i tell it i want to save to Storage Card 1 it won't look in there.
It's not this "ignore my doc" file is it? I used ot have one but now I can't see one in the root dir of the card.
:?
Did you try reformatting the card, after backing up the files of course. Also have you actually saved a file to the sd card since your upgrade?

No, I havn't tried reformatting it. (After all its the ROM that was changed not the location of the data). And I just tried saving new files- They ARE written to the SD folder "My Documents".
But the XDA still doesn't see any files in the other folders on the card...
you have to save those files in the My Document directory on the SD Card. thats how MS did it.
Hi.
Actually, I dimly recalled that the file ignore_my_docs IS necessary for the OS to 'see' files on the Memory cards which are outside of My Documents.
I located a backup and found the ignore_my_docs file, transferred it over to the XDA and my problem was solved.
Not actually sure how the original was deleted. :?
Thanks for the feedback anyway.
Cheers

Many thx VJ.
Just wonder if I have an app on my big rig that i can open a .vol with . . .
hey little rock,
sorry to bother you... You can open the pim.vol with a text processor (notepad or everything else) but I really don't know if it's the only way... the other problem is that I have no idea on how to manage the information enclosed (appointments, tasks, contacts)...I mean reading (or writing) the informations direcly from the pim.vol. Have you got some ideas on that???
thank you,
and thanks to everyone else for the replies...

Sync it with the desktop Outlook and export / import it there. Unfortunately, it's currently not possible to export these records to a text file on the Pocket PC. (see my WinCE DB-related articles in by blog for more info.)
I have a HP PPC which runs on PPC2002, it has "IPAQ BACKUP.EXE" and other DLLs. It is provided by SpriteSoftware as seen in the registry.
Items it backups in PPC2002,
1. PIM Databases (Contacts info is here)
2.Other Databases
3. File Systems
4. Registry
It is able to backup and restore properly.
I transfer the software to Universal, items it backups,
1. Other Databases
2. File Systems (PIM.VOL is here)
3. Registry
It is able to backup successfully in backup.nbf.
Question
Does that mean I can restore successfully on Universal including my Contacts?
lads if you aint got a copy of contacts back up then
go to fiel explorer>open device menu>root directory
this is the main one it opens to
then right at the bottom is"pim.vol"
copy this file, put it on SD card
then if you ever need if after a hard reset
then after hard reset delete the "pim.vol"on the phone and copy your old one from the SD card
hope that is of some help to someone

pim.vol in the root of your pocket pc
[As an aside your call history is also located in this file]
Matt
Hi
This can be of some help to someone....
I was having a lot of problems to sycn the data. I suspected that there was some goof up somewhere in the settings of my JJ. So I planned to restore my JJ to factory settings. But my biggest problem was contacts & calender items, as i know my JJ has the latest info than my outlook. I discovered a work around. I have done the following and it roked successfully:
I have copied pim.vol to my SD card. If you cant see the file, go to file explorer and select show all files. Now copy pim.vol to SD card. Done hard reset to my JJ. Overwrite the pim.vol file with the earlier copied one in SD card and viola.. all the data is back.
Now I am with all the data & even the sync is working fine. I hope this would be useful to somebody out there, when required.
It could be a good idea to copy the pim.vol onto SD cards fairly often. Then a hard reset when away from the pc and you can still have all your sync data!
cheers,,,

cannot delete [no sender] [no subject] sms

hi everyone
this morning i notice in my inbox folder i have 1 unread message which says " [no sender] [no subject]. i cannot open this sms neither to delete it. i've search around in the forum but i cannot find anyone discussing about this bugs. anyone knows how to delete this annoying sms and fix it?
thanx
cannot delete one stubborn SMS
Have you found a solution to your problem, i.e. one SMS can't be opened, or deleted.
i have the same situation in my Dopod D810 starting yesterday. no idea where that stupid SMS came from (no sender, no subject).
Appreciate if you can share your solution, if you found one.
same problem happens on mine today.. huhuhuu pliz help
A Possible Solution
This is how I got rid of such a message, without doing a hard reset.
Step 1: Backup (This step is not strictly necessary, but a good precaution. It served me.)
I used PIM Backup v2.8 (Messages only), a nice and free backup program you can download from this forum. Thank you, dotfred.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705&highlight=no+sender
I also export all Databases with SKTools to a XML file. This way I could find out where the message is stored.
Step 2: Install and run dbviewsp.zip
I found it here
http://www.smartphonedn.com/libraries/dbviewsp.html
Thank you, Kenny Goers.
Step 3: Determine the right database (or folder)
Substep 3.1: Before
Switch to dbViewsp.
I presume the e-mail and text messages (SMS) are in the \cemail.vol database.
Note the number of records in each folder. Select the folders one by one and choose "Properties" from the "Menu".
Substep 3.2: "Backup" normal messages
Switch to Pocket Outlook.
Create a new temporary folder and move all "normal" e-mails or text messages of the original folder to the new one.
Notice the number of normal messages you have moved in the new folder.
Notice the number of undeletable messages you have left in the original folder.
Substep 3.3: After
Repeat Substep 3.1. You will notice two differences. The temporary folder you have created and the old one, that will now contain just a few records.
Step 4: Delete records.
You can delete these by selecting them and choosing "Delete Record" from the "Menu".
Step 5: Restore
Switch to Pocket Outlook.
Move all messages from the new temporary folder back to the original folder. Delete the new temporary folder.
That's it. It looks a lot, but it is less trouble than a hard reset.
History:
I tried Menu -> Tools -> Clear "Text Messages" in Pocket Outlook. This deletes all sent and received messages, even the ones I moved to the temporary folder except the "undeletable" ones!
I also tried a plugin InboxExtender.CAB and a little program cleanmail.zip, but both did not work.
Many many many Thanks, I had that same problem. One SMS that had no Sender neither subject. The only thing i did was eliminate (with that software) one record and VOILÁ...
I salute you from Portugal
Once more, many thanks.
I too had a [no subject] [no sender] SMS that had shown up in my Inbox that I couldn't delete and it was keeping me from being able to backup/sync my SMS messages with my PC.
Used WC's method above to move the messages into a temp folder, then delete the database record for the Inbox database and move the good messages back.
Worked like a charm!
Many Thanks!!
Works like a charm! Thanks!
Thanks a million, WC
I too had a [no subject] [no sender] SMS that had shown up in my Drafts that I couldn't delete on my new HTC HD2 running on WM 6.5
I followed your method and managed to get rid of that SMS

Frequent Rom Flashing.. Backup email settings and restore..

Gurus,
I tried searching for this but in vain. I keep flashing all the great roms posted here frequently. And every time i have to configure my email accounts from scratch and this is a real pain. Is there any way to backup the settings like we do in PIM backup and restore upon reflashing the ROM'S?
Help greatly appreciated...
Thanks,
Raj

Same here, what is best method to backup & restore phone settings regardless of what ROM we are using.
What about Microsoft my phone?
get makisu from HERE
(its a plugin to sashimi, but it will run standalone too)
run it, (it may take a few moments to start, be patient) enter your account details, add as many as you like, including wifi settings
tutorial video HERE
copy the xml file it creates (created mine as program files/makisu/makisu.xml)
get the microsoft cabinet sdk from HERE
extract it, and in the BIN folder is an .exe file called makecab.exe
I coppied that file out to its own folder, i dont use anuthing else in the sdk.
put makecab.exe and makisu.xml in a folder together, rename the xml to _setup.xml
open a command line window, and browse to that folder.
(Useful tip for vista/7, with the folder open on screen, hold shift and right click, you will get the option to 'open command window here')
issue the command
makecab /D COMPRESS=OFF _setup.xml mail.cab
(set mail.cab to whatever.cab name you want)
Thats it, copy the cab to your phone and run it when you need to set up your email accounts (and wifi if you set that too, very handy, i've automated 5 email accounts and 3 wifi networks)
(You could also just stop at the xml stage, and next time you hard reset, instal makisu and then choose 'provision xml' and browse to the makisu.xml file and it will install the settings.)
@samsamuel - I've just found this post (after searching for "rename email account"!!) and it's awesome.....just what I've been looking for!! Now I can reload my mail settings whenever I flash....assuming I can find a way to rename the current (incorrect) mail account I just added, otherwise I'll have to go for the delete/re-create option
Thanks again for posting about "makisu" - shame I have to register on yet another forum I'll never use just to get it....unless it's hidden on XDA somewhere?
Mark.
This is all that you guys need.
This will take care of provisioning for Wi-Fi Configs, Email Configs and Certificates.

After you make the xml with the program, how do you access it on the phone for restoration of settings? I don't need it right now but I am making xml's since I have had to hard reset my phone 4x already (and not because I was flashing a ROM) and re-creating all the settings is such a pain. I read into the sashimi and makisu but those apps make my head spin. There has to be a simpler way. Thanks in advance.
Edit: I think I got it. Either I use Makisu to access the xml or make the cab using the post above. If I make the cab and I want to use Quick cab (since it is much easier to use), where does the file install? \Windows?? It was unclear from the previous post since the instructions are for a different cab making utility.

it doesnt install any files anywhere, not in teh way you mean, its just setting/changing/applying settings. Think of the xml file as a script that makes changes as it runs.
For me, i have makisu in my autoinstall folder, so it gets installed at hard reset, and i run teh xml file (also on my sd card) manually when i am ready to apply it. (I flash a lot, so sometimes i dont want email setting up, because i am gonna flash again in a few minutes).
I no longer bother creating the cab, because with the xml file you can just open it in notepad and add anotehr email account, make other small adjustments, whatever, which you cant do with a cab, you have to rebuild the whole thing from scratch. (for some reason wince cab manager cant open that cab.)
Well if you are on a custom rom, every chef support some form of UC or the other (User Customization).
In addition to Sashimi / Makisu you can also use SDConfig.txt & XDA_UC if your ROM supports it.
Google them and you'll find more info.
This looked like it would do the trick. When I run it I get a visual basic error. I have netcf v4 installed. Is there another file required to make this run?
