I bought a Telstra-branded HD2 from Australia for my girlfriend (since she has AT&T), but then I got her the HTC Inspire instead. I ordered this for her since the Telstra can get 3G service on AT&T (unlike the T-Mobile HD2), but since she has the Inspire now
I use T-Mobile, and already have a US market HD2, so I'm not sure what I should do with this Telstra HD2.
I was thinking of putting it on eBay, but what else could I do with it? I was thinking of maybe using it in my car somehow...?
Ideas?
---edit---
decided to put it on ebay...

Hello everyone, Ive been a long time reader of xda, have an htc advantage, htc touch dual, and an htc wing. I have flashed more roms to my advantage than i could ever remember, sadly I forgot my old username so here I am with a new one
Lately I have only been using my advantage as a bedside alarm clock, and I want to try Android. I prefer the body lines of the hero, but I would like the future option of using 3g. I am in Alaska and using tmobile. I would like to switch to ATT at some point in the future, and currently there is NO 3g service where i am in alaska with either providers. From what I can tell, the Rogers version of the magic is hands down the one to get if you want to run the hero rom. Ive read many posts that say it lags with the 192mb versions. I also want to get as full of a google experience as possible...OTA updates, Access to the Android Marketplace, google maps etc. Can anyone confirm that if I purchased an unlocked rogers magic off ebay, would I be able to get OTA updates over an edge connection in the USA? I do believe that the rogers magic should have the bands to work with ATT 3g right? As I said, there is no 3g service here, but when i switch to ATT later, and travel I would like to utilize the 3g. Just looking for some insight on what will more than likely be my next phone. Planning on purchasing tonight if we can come up with some answers!
The Rogers Magic will run on AT&T but not on T-MO.
You get access to the Market but not paid apps, you'll have to root to get full access.
You wont get OTA updates from Rogers, I'm a customer and they told me no go on OS updates. Have to contact HTC for that, but if your rooted does it matter?
Flash the latest/greatest ROM.
Clinton
ok well The Rogers has the 288MB you want:
and it also works on tmobile edge but on 3G however it works on att edge/3G. so if your thinking of swicthing over to att than this is the phone for you.
Ok, so if I root the phone, then I would have complete access to the android market? If purchasing an unlocked Rogers Magic, do i need to worry about getting one of the "perfect spl"s that isnt rootable yet, or is that only an issue for other versions?
Yep you'll have full access if you install "Market Enabler" after you root. I have not heard of any Rogers Magic haveing the "perfect SPL" I think so far it's only for the MyTouch and Hero.
Clinton
ClintonH is correct all available Roger Magics in the market are rootable.
Awesome, thanks for the great information. Looks like I will be purchasing one from ebay this weekend, unless you guys can recommend any reputable online shops to order from. I'll be just using the edge connection on it for a little while until i figure out how im going to get outta my tmobile contract...I currently have two active numbers under my contract with tmobile Not in much of a hurry though as i'll only be able to utilize the 3g when im travelling.
I actually have one fs on Ebay right now. Check out dgravo27 . It is the Rogers version.
Looks like yours isnt for sale anymore Dgravo, I just bought it! Too many other ones listed with 288 mb ram, however, they have the vodaphone logo and I dont think half the sellers even know whats inside their phones.
I am moving back to the US from Europe, and I am so happy with my HD2 that I'd like to have the exact same thing in the US.
I can't live without 3G, though, so I think I have to replace my current European-band HD2. And I can't live without Cookie's home page tabs either, plus I prefer ATT to t-mobile.
Can I (or should I) buy an unlocked HD2 for use on US bands?
Is buying a Telstra HD2 an option? Is it unlocked?
If I went with US Tmobile, can I install Cookie's stuff?
Can Cookie's tabs be installed on a locked phone? Any applications that I couldn't install on a locked phone?
I searched the fora, but didn't come up with a clear answer to this - however I read many posts about there being no good way to unlock a US HD2, and I don't want to get stuck with any unexpected limitations on my use of the device.
The chepest rout will be getting it from T-Mobile. If you can find it in stock with T-Mobile, you can buy it for $450 with no contract directly from T-Mobile or as cheap as free on contract from some places. T-Mobile's network is really improving, I came from Verizon and in my area I am really happy with the coverage and HSDPA internet is really nice. I myself have the T-Mobile HD2 and it is running Energy 6.5.X Series ROM which includes Cookies. If you buy it from T-Mobile no contract.they will unlock it right away for free as well. If you still want to go with AT&T, you will really want to buy the Telstra version as the T-Mobile version will not get 3G on AT&T an the Telstra version is several Hundred $ more than a contract free T-Mobile.

The US T-Mobile HD2 can be unlocked just as the euro HD2. You can do the same stuff on the US HD2 as any HD2. Plus, the US T_mo version has twice as much ROM memory.
I have the TMOUS HD2, and the only app I haven't been able to install (and isn't all that important to me) is Advanced Config. Co0kie's, CHTE, BsB, Change Screen, Waze, all installed just fine with no unlocking necessary
The Telstra T9193 is unlocked, you can put in your AT&T sim and go. (Well, you'll probably want to flash to a different ROM, or at least run the carrier settings app to configure data for AT&T)
If you buy the T-Mo US HD2, it will only work in 3G on T-Mo's network.
I love my T9193 on AT&T. You will need to make sure you are in an 850MHz area, and not a 1900MHz area before purchasing, as the T9193 is 850/2100.
There are some retailers selling the T9193 in the US, but it's cheaper to get it from a reseller in Australia.
Thanks for all your replies!
I live in the US. I am on the t-mobile network (without data) using a Euro HD2.
What are the benefits of having the T-mobile USA HD2? I have the Euro version.
Basically someone wants to buy my HD2 for $550.00 USD (Which I bought for $600.00 USD). Why couldn't they just get the T-mobile version? It's cheaper.
In terms of hardware wise, its exactly the same internally except that American HD2 has 1GB of ROM. I mean, if I can shove the American hd2 hardware into the euro framework, I would.
Someone tell me why I shouldn't sell my euro HD2 and buy a brand-new, in-box American HD2 on ebay for $400.00 USD?

1. US version uses different frequences for 3G. So if you're planning to use your phone primarily on any network other than T-Mobile US, and you care about 3G, then you should keep your European version.
2. US version is locked to T-Mobile network. (Can be unlocked, though)
3. US verision is slightly longer, may be an issue if you're using a hard case.
Other than that I don't see any reasons why you shouldn't.
American HD2 can have 3G only in US and almost nowhere else on Earth. It's as simple as that. If you travel a lot, you would most probably get Euro HD2.

1) Can the Euro HD2 use American AT&T 3G? Or are the frequencies totally different. As far as I know, I wont be going anywhere outside of the US any time within the next 5 years.
2) It can be unlocked, sure. Was the Euro Hd2 every lock to begin with? Mines was already unlocked when I got it on ebay.
3) That extra 1mm length does make the US HD2 ugly. But It doesnt hurt since I HATE using device cases since it takes the beauty away from the device. I use invisibleshield (Looks best if you know how to put one on!) and a Vuikiti Screen protector.
I can always swap out the color hardware keys to the euro's all-white keys, and the main screen as well so I don't have the t-mobile logo. If I am correct, the extra 1mm length is on the bottom of the rubber coating cover and not on the glass?
I am still not convinced why I shouldn't sell my HD2 and buy a new one for much, MUCH, much cheaper...

The glass is slightly longer on the US HD2, I believe. I got a vikuiti screen protector for my t-mo US HD2 and it doesn't fit perfect... but it isn't that noticeable. I would go ahead and the the T-Mo US HD2 if you're using T-Mobile anyways.

As far as I know, yes, Euro HD2 will work with AT&T 3G. I had a Euro version of HTC Kaiser and tried it once with a friend's AT&T SIM and 3G worked.

Ummm, no. The Euro HD2 will not work with AT&T 3G. If it did, do you think people (like myself) would spend $800-900 for the Telstra model?
Benefits of Tmo-us HD2:
dropped calls
3G and Edge switching
different ROM
slightly longer phone?
only Tmobile Band frequency...
I don't if you would still call them benefits though lol...
meh, I'll keep the TMOUS HD2 though.

Some phones are "world" phones and have radios to go around the globe, not many offer full 3g though. All GSM phones work on Edge though. I would love it if they would do the same with the 3g frequencies. Would make their roll outs cheaper as everyone has the same gear...
Only the Telstra Aussie version works with ATT3g if you live in an 850 mhz zone. Which ATT is trying to switch over to completely I believe.
The T-Mobile phone has been good to me, I do switch to edge and back more than I would like but so far I am not sorry I bought it.
If you have the Euro phone why not try the proxy tweak on this forum (if you use att) and see how much you can get out of edge?

I thought this too, but I just traveled with my unlocked U.S. T-Mobile HD2 in Netherlands and Latvia and got 3G with my prepaid T-Mobile NL and BiFri sim cards.
I want get rid of my Desire Z I bought it for use on AT&T network but only edge is not cutting it so I am getting a new phone. Phone was only used for a week, like new doesn't have a hinge issue at all. Need to sell this thing, if you have any questions pm me .

You can get a NAM version that does work with AT&T 3G. Its the Canadian (Bell) version. Once unlocked, it works fine on 3G =)
Hey guys!
I have HD2 I bought in Europe and am currently spending the summer in the USA. I'd like to know if I can use my phone with a SIM card from any operator here - the phone is not SIM locked. I have used it with SIM cards from another mobile operators in Europe. Should I flash the radio or something? I tried with an AT&T SIM card and it didn't work.
No need to reflash your European HD2. I am using a European HD2 on T-Mobile USA for more than a year (on stock ROM) and I never experienced any problems.
However,
make sure that your provider has a rooming agreement with either T-Mobile USA or AT&T.
I don't think you got me right. I don't want to use roaming. It's WAY expensive. I want to buy a SIM card from either T-Mobile or "Speed" or AT&T or whoever - doesn't matter really... and use it on my HD2.
LOL,
You didn't read my reply properly either! I said clearly I am using a European HD2 on T-Mobile USA, so, yes, as long as your Leo is unlocked, it will work just fine.
