This is a short guide on how you can extend the battery life of your galaxy tab.
1. Do not install/use task-killers. You ask why? read http://lifehacker.com/#!5650894/and...ed-what-they-do-and-why-you-shouldnt-use-them
2. Unless you're very reliant on your GPS and you're always on the streets navigating your way around, off it.
3. Deactivate data network mode when you have WIFI around.
4. Condition the battery. (you only need to do this once)
turn off the phone, plug it in, preferably overnight.
boot the phone up while still plugged in.
delete the batterystats.bin file from data/system/ either thru adb (rm data/system/batterystats.bin) or root explorer (you gotta be rooted)
drain the battery fully, untill it powers down. wait a min or two and reboot it to completely drain it.
congrats... your phone now knows corect voltage values for 100% and dead.
5. Off your wifi when not in use.
6. My brightness is set to auto.
7. i only have my gmail synced to my phone. for other accounts such as facebook, i disabled the sync.
these are the few things you can do to extend your battery life. How long a battery last is really subjective. my battery can last 24hrs with frequent sms, 1-2 hours of surfing in between, 1-2 hours of angry birds in between, around 1 hour of reading documents and doing homeowork.. some calls.., checking emails with my wifi on most of the time and i consider think the battery life as not that bad. to other people it may suck but to me it's good.
I am currently on Modaco R1 and richardtrip's kernel. running at stock cpu and UV at -200 for all cpu speed. for now overclocking is not really necessary for me as i find that everything is already fast and smooth. i do not have any setCPU profiles.

you have to set the clock speed yourself. use an app called setCPU to set your clock speed.

Actually brightness should not be in auto to save battery. It will keep ramping up and down the screen brightness depending on availabke lighting thereby using battery.

Hmm I shall try disabling the auto brightness.. you have a point there.. that means the sensor is constantly working.. wasting battery..

i have been reading about some of the battery u guys get and all i have to say is......how do u guy get such great battery life?! i don't get any where near that. thinking of deleting pure calendar since i heard it takes up a lot of battery. but do live wallpapers eat up that much memory? i got other widgets like beautiful home (updates ever 15 minutes), Mobile Buzz widgets, myspace (yea i kno. cant seem to get to facebook yet. unless some of you guys want to add me there ) widget, Process manager widget, Touiteur widget that updates every three minutes, FML widget, some beautiful home widgets, Yahoo NFL widget, Android Guys widget, i have Nimbuzz IM always running, Weatherbug on my notification bar that updates every 15 minutes, battery indicator, and wifi (when im at home). my display at 140/225 (power manager) and i have most of my widgets on ignore when i hit the kill all button on Process manager. what apps you think that i don't need to have running would help battery life? you guys that have SetCPU, what can u recommend to set my profiles at to see better battery life? my current set up is:
Charging
998 Max
245 Min
Sleep/Standby
384 Max
245 Min
Power > 100%
998 Max
768 Min
Power > 30%
614 Max
245 Min
what do you guys suggest to improve my overall battery life? ANY help at all will be greatly appreciated
**PS, i do the average usage of web, IM, a lot of texting, little to no myspace, twitter always running, and some flash video. also is it bad if i charge the battery a lot?**
I've had most noticeable battery improvements from using JuiceDefender and Switching the Network Type to GSM (auto) PRL. Generally getting about 17 hours with I would say heavy usage.
This message was deleted by its author
i guess u shouldnt be using
998 Max 768 Min on <100 setting to save battery..
imho the default 998 Max 245 Min ondemand (read setcpu=off) is the best setting..
afaik cpu lowers the clock on sleep by default.. so why bother?
same goes to all app-killers and auto-process-killers.. not needed =)
All those things that update frequently are what eats your battery. Every time an app wants to update it has to wake the processor and radio connections, do its thing and then shutdown again. If you've got this happening every few minutes your battery won't last the day.
I don't have anything updating more than once every 3 hours. That way I get 2-3 days battery life unless I'm using the phone heavily.
p.s. app/process killers won't help. Infact they generally make things worse. If the processes are sleeping (which they will be if you aren't using them or they aren;t auto-updating) then they don't use any processing time or power. Auto killing processes does however use power......

Exactly what my reply was going to be. If you don't need all that stuff, then either turn off the widgets or set them to only update every 1+ hours. The internet will kill your battery. Its nice having stuff at your fingertips everytime you turn your phone on, but are you really checking it every 10-15 minutes?
Live wallpapers also use more battery than regular ones, so even though they're pretty and nice, they can use more battery. I'm not sure how much more though, it might only be .5-1%/hour extra.
Also, if you want to use SetCPU, take t0ols' suggestion. If you're setting the minimum to 768, then that's the slowest it'll run. By default, it'll clock itself down to 245 even without SetCPU. You can also try changing the governor for the Sleep profile to Conservative or Power Save instead of On-Demand. With all that said, I've uninstalled SetCPU and my batter life isn't any worse or any better than when I had it installed. There's a thread on here where half of us say it doesn't help any and half say it does, so you might try uninstalling it too.
As far as the process managers go, I keep one installed, but only to kill some apps that continue running in the background. I don't auto-kill everything. For a while I was having pretty bad battery life while I didn't have a process manager, once I installed it, I noticed there was an app that was running in the background, using data. Some apps just aren't programmed very good and require manual killing.
Another thing, which I didn't see you mention, is screen brightness. Either set it to auto or set it to something less than half. The screen is one of the biggest battery killers there is.
Another one is your network connection. I usually leave mine on Edge only and use WiFi when I need something fast. 3G/H uses more battery than WiFi, so I'll leave WiFi on all day. If I go away from a connection though I turn it off to keep it from hunting for a WiFi signal.
If you must have 3G on, try dialing *#*#4636#*#*, go to Phone Information, then scroll to the bottom for "Set Preferred Network Type" and set it to GSM Auto PRL instead of WCDMA Preferred. Some have reported that this helps with their battery life.
Hope that helps.
Isn't this a duplicate of a duplicate of a duplicate of a thread?
My N1 with K9 Mail (2 online IMAP, 4 poll folders), Latitude, random stuff, including Pure Calendar... 3%/hr. That's as good or better than my previous smartphones. Google syncing cal/contacts, but not mail.
I don't have Facebook or Twitter syncing.
I'm happy with the battery life.
mkay here it is what to do disable in order to conserve some juice :
settings - sound - haptic feedback - uncheck
settings - dispaly - brightness off half way or less , go to web browser brightness and lower it also disable in browser settings location check
settings - location and security use gps - unchecked disabled
settings - account and sync - uncheck
settings - privacy - back up my date - uncheck
i also unchecked serchable items so my phone doesent even try to search anything else than web browser
next download zim launcher which doesent eat battery at all 1% in stand by .
Screenfilter is a next program that allows you to lower your screen brightness even more that stock alowes you which is nice on bettery too cause our screeen eat most of battery .
AutoStarts its a program that allows you to control apps startin when you boot your phone you can remove some to prevent them from startin when your phone boot
download systemAppRemover its a paid app but works well and lets you delete programs from system which u dont want/need and those programs most likely run in background eatin your battery ,for me those programs were .. remeber i dont use them so i didnt need them :
voice dail -deleted
voice search - deleted
ptt- deleted
wi fi callin - gone !
there is prolly like 5 more programs that i deleted just forgot what it was annd
if you dont need crap on your phone eating your battery % install bloat free OS . good luck
also make a shortcut for stock task manager to your home screen and hit clear ram or close programs once in some while .
you can save your battery also by downloading program called SETCPU and lower your cpu frequency from 1ghz to 800 or 600 it helps also , and if you run voodoo or any else moded kernel dont expect battery to lasst as long as stock too !
want to remove wi-fi callin aka battery hog download file below flash it with clockwork
also u can freezee programs with TITANIUM BACKUP instead of deleting them so if u need them for later use theyr all there .
The only good recommendations you offered were to underclock and remove bloatware.
I'm not going to disable everything about my phone that makes it a smartphone. If I did that I would not have bought a smartphone.
I DIDNT TELL YOU TO DISABLE THINGS its your choice what you wouuld follow to conserve your battery thats what i do because i use my phone as mp3 so music is no1 thing so i dont need those things but they also helped save consumption of battery ,and as far as i see some people dont even know yet they can disable these features so im just breaking it down for some . if this thread is usles some one delete it ! p.s like when im in school and my phone starts to die i disable data so it saves life so i can put my headphones and use it as mp3 player
Meh, I just have two spare batteries and a batt charger, so I run with everything on, full brightness. Even if my battery only lasts 8 hours, I just pop in a fresh one and I'm good. Like the other guy said, I don't see the point of buying a smartphone and then turning off everything that makes it useful or fun.
unlike me with one battery and 10 gig of music, u can go carry those liteon in ur pocket lol

The batts are pretty darn skinny. I can even put one in my wallet if I'm not carrying a bag.
Get a extended battery. Last me exactly 25 hrs of use. Or take 20sec with a spare change. How much life can yall expect witg a smart phone that doesnt sit all day.

when i need my phone to be smart i go and run it on demand meaniing go and enable it ! honestly `i dont think you need everything runnign in background so go at leatrs frezz it do at your own risk and its your choice to choose how long your phone will last today 4h or 20 , thats it ,i was just tryin to be helpful for those who dont know

And if that works for your purposes, that's awesome. Thanks for the suggestions.
I leave every thing on and really only use task manager to shut down background apps when not needed. I have a spare Battery....never used it...yet but, I have it
I run alot of stuff on this phone but only use the music player about 1/2 hr a day
I am getting 16-20 hrs on a charge.......... So it never has been an issue to me. I am kinda confused why people complain about the battery......... unless they are playing games and youtube all day or overclocking the phone....... the battery lasts just fine.........
why not just do one better and turn the phone off? Just turn it on when you need to do something. Battery life is AMAZING.
Personally, I just keep a charger / car charger handy.
To cut down on battery usage while maximizing speed is to have my processor overclocked and set up profiles to disallow overuse of processing power while my phone is not in use, and maximizing it while it is.
PS. You don't have to be overclocked. Just but setcpu and create profiles. For example: 1ghz max and 800ghz min default. Then a profile set for when the screen is off to use 800 max and 0 min.
I also use a task killer to minimize RAM usage.
Sent from Count Chocula's Overclocked Samsung Fascinate
bumpin this as of so cause im bored ;P
Thx for the tips. A couple I didn't know about. Like you, there are some features I never use and they are battery hogs. It's up to ppl to decide if they want to carry an extra battery or bulky extended battery but its always good to have options.
I'm might judy go crazy freezing everything up...lol
Here's what I do...
- Uninstall bloatware
- Use SetCPU; underclock to 200 max, 100 min when screen is off, saves a ton of battery without affecting performance at all.
- Autokiller memory optimizer boosts speed and (supposedly) battery life and takes away the need for a task killer
And that's about it. I lose no performance and get good battery life.
I go 5 hours with my phone unplugged with light to moderate usage (text and email) and my battery drops only about 10%. I leave the phone on standby for 24 hours without using it and battery drops about 2%.

I believe android already scales the cpu to 100mhz when the phone idle so you dont need set that in setcpu.
Does it? Because when using Setcpu and underclocking with the screen off, there's a slight lag when "sliding to unlock" but none when I disable the profile, leading me to believe that there is a difference.
I honestly have no clue as to whether the OS does this by default, however. That's just what I noticed.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Set it to 200/200 no lag. There is almost no difference(in battery use) between 100mhz and 200mhz so just set it at 200min 200max for screen off

14 bucks and I got an extended battery. Best decision ever, seriously. I'm sitting at about 12 hours unplugged, and still have 38% left. Battery left is estimating 8 hours left on this one charge. That's with heavy use. Music playing, web browsing, downloading apps, playing Angry Birds, posting to Facebook, Google Reader syncing. Seriously, just spend the 14 bucks and save all the trouble of disabling stuff.
First - let me state - and it is true - that I used the search function.
I read pages and pages of advices to lower battery consumption on my HD2 Android... without success...
First I used an SD ROM. I read that a NAND would improve battery life. So this is what I did.
I am also using SetCPU with a profile when battery <30% and another one when screen is off to LOWER the CPU speed. In normal use, I set CPU speed at 768MHz trying to lower power consumption...
I use a task killer to free memory and prevent silly programs to drain my battery off...
I use Juice Defender to control wifi, data, etc...
And with all of this in place, my "Current widget" shows a consumption of 180mA with screen on doing nothing, up to 350-400-500!!! mA when acutally using the phone wifi+sync...
In the forum I read consumption like 3 mA - 9 mA!!! This is FAAAAAR Way lower than what I ever had with different builds...
So this is an help scream to everybody: what is your battery drain, and why mine is sooo High???
Hint: I am also a fan of LCD Density changer, with setting at 165... can this have an influence on battery drain??? I reverted to the original 240, doesn't seem to have any influence...
Thanks for your help,
Looki
My drain is 3-9 ma in STANDBY ONLY now and again slightly more but mainly the values stated. And my screen on between 120+160ma. Turn off auto brightness if you have it on, and set it at the lowest your comfortable with (display is big batt drainer) I DONT use taskillers as they do more harm than good. I use NO undervolting and only the default settings with my rom. I have low lcd density setting 167 i think. Lcd density has no effect on your battery drain!
Found this here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13151738&postcount=11296 Might be of some use to you? (from hyperdroid gbx thread)
Whats youre rom?
And do u use ext partition on sd?
I dont even use SetCpu anymore. Only taskkiller.
Auto-brightness is on
Auto sync is off.
Im using UD 3.3 nand from crawlingcity
Stansby is 3 -6 ma
Using round 160 to 250.

How long does your battery last from 100% to self shut down? As for Current Widget, keep in mind that when people say "Standby", its generally referring to the screen being off. Set current widget to update every 30 seconds, and turn the screen of for 40 seconds. Then quickly turn the screen on, unlock, and check what it is reading then.
If its still high, try "Force Stop" applications in the Settings > Applications menu one by one, i've had to do this more than once to locate problem apps that were destroying my battery in standby mode.
I'm knew to Android, let me share you my idea.
I use UD3.3
I removed google stuff
gmail, search, etc
No auto sync
Location off
Always kill market when screen off.
I use beautiful widget for weather manual refresh.
I use battery widget
Auto level for screen
sometimes WIFI on
2g Only
2 or 3 calls,total of 3 to 4 min a day
My battery stay 48 hrs in STBY mode.
I think the most draining factor is
1) google stuff they are battery hog.
2) screen
3) bad written programs (every time they check connection to
internet or looping for doing something, looping will make
CPU in high frequency).
4) bad device driver such as BT which is known as 60ma
drain. it is not the hardware but it is the software doing
the drain.
thanks

[Ultimate GUIDE] Increase your battery life on Android
Thanks guys for your help!
I made a compilation of all tips I could collect and/or find by myself.
They are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15229416
Regards,

Disclaimer; This does not damage your phone at all or fry/mess your cpu.
This method is used to lower CPU stress and increase Battery life
This method works for all rooted phones.
IMPORTANT: The newer versions of SetCPU might prevent your phone from entering deep sleep. Download version 2.24 from the following link which is the one with no problems and completely works 100%.
LINK
Deep Sleep breaks when charger is plugged in, you can see this by CPU SPY application available on playstore
Stop Downloading Battery Saving Applications, they do nothing and uses RAM.:silly:
Also Turn BLN off when you are sleeping.(It also Consumes battery and sometimes prevent deep sleep of CPU)
Set your Brightness to minimum and disable auto brightness.
LINK to Display Brightness
Instead use lite app called - Display Brightness from play store.
Turn off wifi and mobile data when not in use.
Use toggle for auto rotation, and keep off when not needed.
For more battery Saving, disable all animations and set screen timeout to 1min.
The S plus sucks in battery life. We all know that. But here's a fix, Try Under clocking instead of Over clocking.
When screen is on:
MAX 1.4Ghz(Why to OC??, if your phone runs smoothly on 1.4Ghz)
MIN 192Mhz
Ondemand governor (This governor jumps up to max when needed but spends most time on the min freq. Best battery saver.)
When screen is off:
MAX 365 Mhz
MIN 192 MHz
(This prevents lagging when playing music and other activities when screen off)
This way, you have a beast quick phone when you're using it, and the best battery saver when you're not!
NOTE: Turn off Autosync from the settings. It's only used to sync your gmail and contacts and such. You can manually sync when you add a new contact and since I don't use gmail, I refresh manually whenever I do.
SetCPU:LINK
Specific instructions for those that can't get it to work!:
On SetCPU:
Click Add profile
Where it says Profile, select it and tap "Screen Off"
Set the frequencies you want in use while screen is off (If you want just one frecuency, put both sliders on the same number)
Set priority (in case you have other profiles, otherwise don't bother)
Select governor (Won't really matter since cpu is gonna be running at 1 frecuency)
Tap save
Go back to Profiles tab at the top, then tap Enable at the top left to make the profiles work.
For a list of most governors and I/O schedulers detailed;
Visit
1.LINK
2.LINK
To check if its all working, install CPU spy from the playstore: LINK
For Playing GAMES(HD)/HEAVY GAMES, Plug your Charger in and play if possible.:good:
Most Important thing is to calibrate battery,
Calibration of battery is needed when you change your ROM.
This process wipes batterystats.
Battery Calibration
1. Charge 100%(NON STOP)
2. Download any battery Calibration tool from play store; (Link to App)
3. Open that app, click battery calibrate
6. Unplug your charger
7. Discharge your phone down to 0% during the day
8. Charge back up to 100% (NON STOP)
This is to make sure you're using your battery at 100%. Only do this after you flash a new rom.
The worst battery killer is 3G. No matter how much you try to optimize battery by tweaking and underclock, if you have 3G on, you're gonna have a bad battery drain.
Make sure that Autosync is disabled.
Done A small test usage 14 mins , you can see in attachment your CPU should look like this.
THIS READINGS FROM MY SGA.
And never ever install the Facebook App if you want to use your phone for more than 3 hours!
Sent from my GT-I9001 using xda app-developers app
Don't get apps that take background processes like what xellar said, facebook, and some other apps like tap tap revenge 4. Anyways thanks for the tips and link to free setcpu
Other people can also share VALID ideas about saving battery.
Will help many users.
Nice advises. I'm already using these.
One more good thing is turning mobile data off whenever you are not using it, also bluetooth, lowering brightness.
Good app for doing so is Power Toggles. You can always have widget on home screen and switch on/of these things with one tap.
Riiight.. Turn off autosync, disable 3G and wi-fi, dont use apps or games.. I might as well buy Nokia 3310..my phone lasts easily whole day with wifi on..with 3G it can get me at least 6-9h which is fine.. The key is to turn off 3G when you are on wifi and turn down brightness.. Everything else is not using your smartphone smart..
1) Set your network mode to 2G only if you're not using 3G/WCDMA
2) Manually set your operator in settings.
PS: After flashing one of firmwares I got a bug - battery is not charging to 100% while phone is ON. Only to 99% and not showing a message about fully charged battery... But when the phone is in off mode - it charges to 100%. Anyone knows how to fix this thing?

On Amoled-Displays it should help. Inverted Apps, too.

i testet the new version of setCPU 3.0.9, deep sleep works perfectly.
If profiles are not used it exits and there is no use of RAM in both versions (But then you do not have the unique feature of auto switching profiles ).
Is there another app with auto-switching?

For the statement that Underclocking would help in saving battery I wouldn't fully agree. A slow cpu needs more time to complete a task before returning to a sleep state. Of course the battery drain is higher with a higher frequency (which also require higher voltages), but I believe, that there isn't much to gain on this front. As long as I don't see any profound evidence I'd even suspect, that an underlocked CPU overall could even cause more power consumption. You can also read more opinions about this in general in this thread.
Much more beneficial would be to identify those apps that cause frequent wakelocks. Does anybody have hints here, how to track down those 'bastards' ? (From my Linux I know 'powertop', does something similar exist for Android? (Or are the battery statistics in CM10 sufficient to decide which app to wipe?)

Better battery stats is application useful for identifying partial wakelocks.
Its an paid app, but Google helps... Lol
Your above sentence about UC comes true for heavy usage.
Normal apps can run smoothly and at same speed as of OC.
I am using auroraspv3ce final.
With most of time in sleep with wifi, it goes 8-9 hours.
If i use for example twitter facebook, it goes maximum 4-5 hours.
And mostly applications stop or lag so ihave to stop activity. I am using automemory ptimizer in aggressive mode (100 mb free) but still i have this problem.
For example when someonecalls me, 2-3 seconds waiting, i can see the person name. It shows number first.
What applications do you suggetst or what should i do?
I want to do tests memroy and battery tests to see if something is wrong. How?
I have battery problem too is normal not that much. Did you try to reduce clock speed governor? Interactive is good. Try and report.

Yes of course. Go to menu and run application No-frills CPU control. For example select 806 Mhz for Max.clock and 245 Mhz for Min. clock. Governor you can choose Interactive.

I did, it success but what is that for? To reduce battery? It seems now fast, opening apps, closing.
Yes it's for reduce battery. Namely if you don't play games (like me) that clock is perfect for that purpose. Interactive governor is good too mainly if you don't always need screen on aka idle.
You can test others clock for min and max but that governor is excellent.
so eeez
best way to improve battery live is propper calibration
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration
it needs root.
best way to calibrate battery is fully charge then unplug restart device plug in charge till 100% and do it again over and over for 3 times then... calibrate battery
fully discharge and charge again till 100 w/o breaks
also update your soft to soon coming v6 of auroraSP
hope i helpd
Battery Drain Wifi
I have done calibrations and changed clock speeds to no avail, Wifi really chews battery on most ROMs. e.g. Fully charged at 8pm and completely dead when i wake up the next morning.
Might simply be a case of new battery, does poor battery affect phone performance?

Yes your battery is dead or almost it's not normal take out so fast
.
You can buy this battery http://www.bigupbattery.com/T-Mobile-HB4F1-Pulse-Battery-p/bupb1694.htm is good but don't except to be perfect. I have that and phone can be 1,5 2 days without charging.

Thanks mate, I bought this one shortly before reading your post http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=638683016 only $6NZD
Looking forward to having decent battery life again!
