Recovery - EVO Shift 4G General

I was just wondering if anybody was going to try and get Amon_RA recovery on the Shift? I much prefer it to the CWM, but I have no idea how to make it myself or I would.
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App

Amon-ra isn't open sourced.
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App

Ahhh I didn't know that. Thanks!

Also Amon_Ra isn't designed to read eMMC partitions.

The evo doesn't have eMMC partitions? Whatever that is. I'd rather have amon too.

+1 for amon. Best recovery out there by a mile.

two ways to install roms:
internal flash memory (EMC)
external flash memory (SD)
amon doesnt recognize internal memory

Actually, no - that wasn't the least bit helpful. Like the OP, I've been struggling with this topic for a while and I've searched extensively, both on this forum and elsewhere, and have found no good description of how to go about partitioning my SD card and setting it up correctly. I understand that very often people don't bother to search at all and ask questions that have been asked and answered hundreds of times before, and that such laziness is quite frustrating to people like yourself who are particularly knowledgeable and experienced - but in this one instance, I think you may have been a bit too quick to dismiss the OP's question.

You can boot from a live CD such as Ubuntu and then mount the microSD. From there, the partitions may be extended to meet your needs. The live CD will see the ext2, ext3, swap, etc. linux partitions as well as the FAT32 ones.

What am I missing here, why can't the 32GB internal be used for CWM? Is this erased along with everything else?:

I read in another post that this version of CWM only supports the sd-ext so those of you that like romracers recovery can just keep that.
CWM does support ext4 though and it has for the last couple of point releases I think.

Well it defaults to the ext-sd, if you have one. Otherwise, I guess it defaults to the internal. The install .zip. and backup/restore features are all automated now, in terms of you not being able to select internal or external; i.e. if you have a ext-sd installed, and you simply select backup in CWM, then the process starts automatically, without giving the option to select where you would like to store the backup. I didn't care for it, and went back to RomRacer's; more options + colors.

Yeah. I'm having trouble with it too. Will not perform a backup at all. Asking to ensure I have v4.4.0.0 or higher installed. We'll yeah, I've got 5.0 installed!
Going back to romracers as well.

I use this method. Partition your sd card through recovery (backup everything on it first) convert to ext3 and install this app.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.buak.Link2SD&feature=search_result
just like darktremor but easier and can be used on any and every rom

I personally never liked CWM. Always loved Amon Ra's.
I prefer 4EXT because it has more options.

And no you can't have 2 different recoveries you could have both apps installed and just flash cwm or 4 ext and then flash the other and switch that way

Cwm. Does what is for and is simple. Less prone to **** **** up. Ext4 is too complicated in my opinion.

4EXT is very useful in 1 thing - it shows the partition sizes and free space. SUPER-useful.
In all the other aspects I don't care what to use, as long as both support the faster TAR backup.
(damn, I haven't been to recovery in ages... since VU 2.37 came out).
4EXT. More functional (switching back and forth on file systems) automatically adds ROM name on backups, and is themeable.
and the paid app is awesome.

I'm using MIUI.us, and its Updater works well with 4ext, while with CMW works only with ROM Manager. I switched to 4ext then.
I tried also the "touch" version, it works for me though I don't use it frequently.
4ext...
I double 4ext.
Yes, it has many features, and it is not necessary to use all of them.
However, some of them are really nice like the native ability to check md5sums, verify if there is storage space etc.
And the touch version- good bye to the volume up/down and power buttons It is something completely different, and makes it fun to flash things.
Flashing cwm/4ext back and forth is not a problem- I accidentally flashed cwm a couple of times via rom manager without noticing, flashed back 4ext.
4ext for the "wipe 'em all" option.
4ext, yes cwmr is polished more, but 4ext though has some new exciting possibilities. Like the touch ability hopefully coming soon.

so if you had cwmr backups, can you restore them from 4ext, or do you have to flash back cwmr first?
