Taking a screenshot means nothing, of course it will look identical.
You should take a photo of the screen (with a camera)
and thanks for posting this!

Eh... i'll do that tomorrow when i fix my cappy up for my boss when i'm at the office. but picture of a screen compared to real life view is completely diff
and the screen cap of the phone is actually the exact same as how i was looking at it
my Monitor is actually more dullish than the screen on the phone...
by a screenshot I presume you mean a screen dump rather than a picture of the phone's screen?
this will show what the screen should display rather than what it does, eg it wouldn't show a dead pixel

No, I think he means a picture of the phone's screen. We know what it should display - we want to see what it does display to find out how accurate the colours are. However, it then depends on how accurate the camera is - we really need the same camera to take a photo of the original, and the picture as displayed on the phone.
I notice more of an issue with certain shades of orange than yellow. The yellow bird in angry birds and the tweetdeck icon look fine on my screen, but certain medium to dark oranges look bad sometimes...
lol Video out and screenshots look fine, its the actual LCD that isnt displaying it properly. That car will look gold on your screen.

On my Monitor/Tv 32" HDMI'd , the car looks more golden on it than it does on the phone. on the phone it looks more yellowish than on the Monitor/Tv.
But when i have some time today and grab the captivate i'll do a pic of both the screen of the phone and the screen of the Monitor/TV

Thinking you might be color blind man. Not an insult, just saying. The phone cant produce yellow at all. And its possible your monitor has issues as well.

Well... just saying.. there must be a few of us colour blind then since about 5 other people i know confirm that its yellow on their device.
What home screen/launcher replacement are you using on your phone? Not the biggest fan of Motoblur -- hell, if I could get rid of all of it and revert to stock I would do it in a heartbeat (I miss my N1)
Also, why did you choose this particular one over other ones? Too many choices, although I really shouldn't complain about that.

hello, well you just left on the screen attached to the board when you set a white background or some application that has a white background you see a thin green line? or is it just my case? try to look you can barely see, but you see ... miraccomando with a white background is dark .. if no one sees practically nothing ... try to check the open page of google and look on the edge of the left is or there is a tiny green line?
hmmm weird.. but that is actually true.. its just like one thin line of green pixels
yes, just like one thin line of green pixels
I see it too, and I really don't think its a problem. Didn't even notice it until now.
i dont notice it in my daily use of the phone though.. if i did, i would probaly get it fixed.. its only when it is a completly white background, like google

ok, I was concerned that this green line of pixels related only to my galaxy s...thanks

It's not a line of pixels, it's either an unused part of the screen's matrix, a sealing material for the screen layer casing, or the tip of the integrated touch panel.
Either way, what you see is not a part of the 800X480 matrix you've been promised, and i really had to make an effort untill i saw it. If this thread wouldn't be here, i would never know it's there.
It sometimes boggles my mind how far people would go to find "problems" with their new belongings, it's like they like to complain.

meh, i guess sarcasm doesn't work in text.
Anyways, the same green line is there. Not suprising considering the screen is made by samsung as well.
This is related to the PenTile Matrix. I don't know the order of the pixels on the SGS so I can't exactly explain why it's the way it is. Anyways this is the difference:

Looks like a minor bug. Put a black to white edge inwards from the edge and there is no green band. Not hard to fix, but dont much care about it either.
Samsung's Galaxy S uses an RGBW stripe, opposed to the N1's RG:BG stripe.
Here's some info:
http://www.nouvoyance.com/
i have the same "issue". a bit annoying to be honest.
i have a problem with my galaxy s. i had root my galaxy. and install rayanZa lag fix. but the problem is about freezing screen ! when i am typing an sms the down corner of display at most freezes. its random. when i press power button and again prees it(tyrn off on display) it works goood again. or when i am sliding top bar to end of display(down) fully it sticks and i must press back button to close this bar. i did hard reset and flashing but its same yet... i did screen diagnostic test by the codes and it seem ok. display seems normal and no dead pixel it seems to have. all phisycall seems normal. sorry for my bad english . whats problem? any solution?
just to confirm if everyone is talking about the same lines i am seeing on SGS.
here are pics
there is a line intercepting the search box
http://i55.tinypic.com/2isfjif.jpg
there is a line beside the S in the middle of the pic (or intercepting the S) and there is another one directly below that line.

Replacement Epic... second screen protector used... and now this?
Please tell me it isn't a bad camera.
This is a white keyboard, yet the center area of the image appears very pink.
This is easiest to see in low light on something white.

EDIT it looks just like this:
http://www.gsmarena.com/a_hardware_fault_causes_htc_hd2_*pink*_camera_issues_confirmed-news-1276.php
which was(/is?) a software issue on the HD2. So is it my ROM/kernel?
...and here http://www.nexusoneforum.net/forum/...-one-camera-issue-cloudy-red-blur-middle.html
Here's the Nexus in an OFFICIAL VIDEO and you can see it from about :10 to :18.
All phones? Are you serious? http://pocketnow.com/thought/clarification-the-pink-spot-syndrome
I've actually found a lot of topics on this, some say it is a software issue, and some say it is hardware... I just wonder if everyone has it, or if I've only started my adventure of returning phones until I get one that actually WORKS. If they are all like this, I'd be disappointed, but not nearly as disappointed as if I have to "roll the dice" again and wait another 3 days and buy another Zagg screen protector.
Changing the white balance to anything but Auto seems to fix this.
Nope. My camera seems to work fine. Took multiple pictures of a white envelope and no color variation at all. Might be your camera or even the lighting conditions of that particular shot that threw it off.
What kind of lighting? It only seems to appear in dim/indoor setting.
Here are three more... all are on Auto white balance, even though the colors seem to change a lot with the light:
Some sunlight (door open, keyboard on floor) - No pink
Indoors + Flash (same place, door shut) - No pink
Indoors (same conditions, no flash) - PINK!
It isn't incapable of showing a pure white, the conditions just have to be ideal.

It's actually the Happy Hacking Pro 2.
The Nexus among many other phone had the 'pink dot' effect.
I noticed this was most common if you have Auto-White on, and quickly open the camera and snap a picture.
The red dot would come up at first when the camera was opened, but once the camera focuses, the pink dot disappears.
Its mainly has to do with the focusing of the lenses I think....
from a epic Galaxy far, far away.
...so does anyone else see this on the Epic? The one site seems to think it's a phenomenon in all cheap digital cameras.

Thanks dito33. Changing the white balance makes photo color looks not so natural (in my point of view). I know lighting will help, but not in indoor low-light environment. I just want my SGS2 to be my first perfect android phone. BTW, i am a bit disappointed with the Pink Spot issue on SGS2 which cost me over 500 pound, not 50 pound.
Still thinking whether looking into exchange my phone to other brand/model or just keep it.
I went looking through all my photos, and can't find that pink tint in any of them. The one thing on this camera that I find annoying is when shooting video, everything will get a green-ish hue to it for a minute, and then for no reason go back to normal.
Green:
Normal

This has been an issue since I got the phone
Also, before I make a video, I let the camera go for 20 seconds, then it'll say "recording failed", let it go for another minute or so to see if it fails again. If it doesn't, I'll then go ahead and make a video. This happens on queue every time.
A friend of mine has this exact issue on his fascinate since day one.
he's rooted, but has not tried custom roms yet.

So my excitement kinda came to an early end last night. I got my second replacement mt4g due to a bad screen. This one is perfect...except that when I was reading some text on a page with a white background, I noticed that from bottom to top, the white gradually goes from white to this yellowish tint. I will post a picture of it later on tonight.
My question is, do you have/had this problem and did you end up returning it or did it go away kind of like when this was happening to the iphone 4? I really hope this really doesn't become a full-blown issue like with the washed colors, because then I would have to request a 3rd replacement and make sure that it doesn't have dead pixels, dust under the screen, washed out colors, yellow tint, crooked ffc, creaky buttons, and gaps around the bezel. Thanks.
Here is an example of what i'm talking about except my display is white at the bottom and gradually goes to the color of the phone that is on the right, at the top.

Do you think that the problem is improper screen calibration and all I have to do is wait for a software update?
225 views and one reply?? Really guys?? Not trying to sound like I'm whining, but this is a serious problem and I think i'm not the only one. I just received my replacement, and it too has this yellowish tint towards the top of the screen. This will be my 4th time that I will be requesting a replacement, so in total so far, 4 defective phones.

The blacks never looked grayish, the colors were bright, crisp and vibrant, it was when looking at something with a white background. This issue has nothing to do with the washed screens that people are getting.

I figured it out based on a chat I had with a friend. I think that the backlight was improperly calibrated or something. Sorry that I can't take a better picture as I have already received my exchange which is much much better, the light is just more distributed evenly then the previous phone. Plus it doesn't creak, the ffc is dead centered, and light doesn't leak through between the bezel and the screen at the top of the phone. After 4 exchanges(5 phones total), I finally got a "perfect" device.
Here is a side-by-side shot sort of(I returned the defective device before I could think of take a pic of them together due to my excitement!)
You can easily tell that the screen of the phone on the right has way more light at the bottom of it and the top doesn't which results in a more obvious yellowish tint. The phone on the left (good one) doesn't have it as bad, the light is distributed evenly. Both were on auto brightness. The good display's(right) brightness is down a bit more but it doesn't matter since I tried to increase and decrease the brightness on the defective one(left) and it made no difference.

This is very obvious the first few hours using the phone. Horrible sharpening halos around texts most noticeable on gray and non white backgrounds. It kills the black contrast of the text as well making it look gray and not to mention a pain to read. Supercurio is busy working his magic for the display a few of his tweets:
"with tuned sharpening, perceived sharpness can be nicely improved, sans visible artefacts"
"image processor from GS3 is from a newer generation than any existing devices, adding finer controls over useful parameters"
"settings are clearly over-cooked (not the first time and no preset is reasonable /accurate) it's perfect for Display Expert"
He's also addressing black crush etc...

i agree. unless it is norm to put your phone very near your eyes, use a magnifying lens or microscope when using your phone daily.
I just viewed the linked pages on my gs3 and I'm having a very hard time seeing what you're talking about. How does the text look remotely grey? And what halos? Text is sharp and easy to read even when zoomed out a fair bit. As you'd expect since it's a 300+ ppi screen.
Are you talking about the anti-aliasing? You don't want the font to be anti-aliased or something? Even in your magnified photo, I can't see what the problem is?

It isn't the anti alisaing. I increased the contrast a little to show the problem more clearly.
Notice the halos around the characters? Still dont know what is wrong? In browser tap menu, brightness and colors, select level 1 power saving. This makes the display color a little bluish but also eliminates the sharpening and makes the text much better looking as it should. Compare it to default and see if you notice a difference.

I think this is a legitimate issue. I can see the poor text rendering in all lighting conditions unlike complains about imperfect blacks that can only be seem in pitch dark conditions. Joking aside the poor whites are also an issue.
I am also really annoyed by the over sharpening. I hope displayexpert is released soon and takes care of the issue..

Me too. Really, really annoying, but let's just wait for supercurio to do his magic.
Just another HOX buyers remorse thread. Move along.
Can you guys with cameras that have manual control test something for me?
Following on from a post by someone else about weird blotches on an all black image displayed on the screen, I checked mine today in pitch darkness and noticed a faint 2 inch or so of blackness on one edge of the screen along with smaller blotches. It doesn't appear to be as visible as the other poster's though but I exaggerated in in the photo so it's easier to see and settings posted below for people to check as well.
This is only visible on an all black screen. This does not exist on any of the S2's I've owned. I'll check my dad's S3 tonight when I go see him in the same way but the way to photograph it to keep the results consistent are as follows:
Stick camera and phone in a cupboard and...
Phone screen brightness: 50%
Camera ISO: 200
Camera Shutter: 15 seconds
Camera Aperture: f/4.5
Remember to pre-focus and use the 10sec timer to avoid shake
Those settings will over exaggerate the effect as shown in my photo below but it makes it easier for everyone to see as you do have to focus your eyes in reality and it's not immediately obvious unless you're in pitch darkness and looking at an all black screen.
I don't know how I feel about this though but if it's visible using the above camera settings for lots of people then I'll leave it as is.
Again, it's only visible on an all black screen so make sure your image that you load is all black and not grey or something Make sure screen timeout is set to at least a minute to avoid the screen going off!

What free app? It's a black image with screen timeout extended. The rest is your camera settings to be able to fairly photograph the screen for everyone to compare, an app can't do that

The guy at the store (**** Smith in Australia) was unable to reproduce the issue in-store, so swapped the phone out and said I'd have to go to samsung if I reported the same issue again. The 2nd phone still has the issue, but as you can see, nowhere near as bad... still... not very good is it.
My 2 year SGS1 had about 4 spots - never noticed any issue. The first SGS3 was definitely noticeable just scrolling through system menus at night.
That's rather bad^^ I've emailed mobiflefun with picture so let's see what they say.
Suggest you up your exposure (duration and/or ISO) to make it a bit more noticeable. Looks like you've got a fair amount of guff in the top-left corner.
:/ dodgy manufacturing.
I don't have an SGSIII yet, but I noticed pretty much this same thing on my Galaxy Note. One night I was viewing an image with an all black screen and it had these weird blotches on the screen. I had never noticed them before.
Actually mine does has it as well but I can't seem to see it under normal conditions

This is AMOLED. My PS Vita has same thing. Nothing you can do about it.

I have it too. Looks like a crack from the inside out on the bottom left corner.
I can see it in Settings/led notification screen at the bottom at night with screen brightness low.

My galaxy nexus doesn't have this so it's not all of them.
I saw around 10 to 15 blotches on my screen, not at all noticable in everyday use only when i looked very closely i saw them scattered around the middle. As its my first amoled phone,i want to know is it harmful for the screen?Shd i ask for replacement?Though i dont have any pink spots or tints watsoever.

My 4 GNexus did.
Wow this looks like a widespread issue. Samsung needs to know about this
I assume samsung knew even before shipping the units.

This "issue" is known since the SGS1. Is the leakege from the AMOLED display. One thing to consider i only have a line about half a CM in the same place where you have the circle mark. Maybe a manufacture failure?
quicker way to test.
1 - dark room
2 set auto brightness off and screen to lowest brightness.
go to phone and dial *#0*#
click vibrate test which will display black screen.
and then check....
p.s been through this in other threads here but mky local telco had 26 with this issue went to another telco and got a blue one today - and no issue whatsoever...
