Anyone know how to increase network reception within the phone? My messaging is always shotty and it drives me nuts! Messages wont send on first attempt. I have to retry them and the person gets them twice. I always reboot or jump into airplane mode but its annoying as ****. Apparently the service on amy home isn't too good since it happens to my sisters intercept and her boyfriends evo but not like it hits me. Help!!! O usuallu undermind it thinking its sprint but im starting to suspect the radio now.. my old nokia candy bar pos had better reception 10 fold compared to these devices nowadays.

There is a thread on here for how to make 4g reception better. If I recall it had tips for 3g too. Your nokia was a gsm phone most likely. Way different from your sprint cdma phone in penitration of buildings

Call up Sprint and complain about coverage and tell them you are going to cancel. They will send you a free Airave that you hook up to your router. Basically a small cell tower that covers the inside of your house and some outside. I've had one for over 2 years and it wouldn't go without it.
I will tell you one thing about the Airave that you have to get used to. There is a small (but noticable) delay when you are using it. You say hello, and it takes a second to a second and a half for the other party to hear you. Sometimes I say "hello?" twice just as they answer me once.
If you're rooted you can purchase roam control from the market. That'll put your phone on constant roaming and hopefully give you better reception

Its definitely thhe radio. On my hero I got 3g speeds of 3-5mb/s and always hadservice. Now I get 2 bars where I had 5. And sometimes I'll have allvmy bars until I make a call or send a text, then suddenly I'll have no service and everything fails, but when I hang up or back out the message app I get all my service back -_- sprints really annoying me. Everyone gets servicein my house but me.

My friend with a MT3G (yes the original non 3.5mm having one) gets HSPA with full bars! As well as my friend with his HD2 and another with a droid x. I'm always told how great the service is in my house until they see MY signal

Is there an external antenna I can connect to the Vibrant to boost its signal? In my new apartment I only get Edge and want to get 3G, especially since I plan to tether it to my laptop to use as internet. Is there anything that can boost the signal?

Not as of yet. I've been told by three tmo reps that tmo will be releasing one of those signal boosters that you stick on your window sometime this year. Of course we all know how reliable tmo reps are so I wouldn't hold your breath or anything. I need something for my apartment to. Maybe we'll get lucky.

Rebooted, switched radio on and off no luck. My radio is good because when I switch to verizon's tower using roam control I get 1x data. Slow but it something.

Mine went down to here in Cincinnati OH, right in the middle of streaming the game. (4g picked it right back up though)
I had full bars, and without moving I had nothing for a good 10 minutes before deciding to switch to the battery-draining 4g.

thanks. I called sprint yesterday and first tier support tried to insist I hard reset my Epic,even though i told them I have three Epics and an Evo and were all seeing same problem. I called second tier directly and they told me there were network issues and not to reset.

For future reference - do you have a direct number for them, or is it the usual "I want to speak to level two"?
Even Sprint employees don't have a direct line for them, they got rid of that last year. That being said, the EVOs were having data connectivity issues, and somehow it expanded into the Epic, Moment and Hero as well, but in a more limited scope.
About a month ago, my Sprint signal at my house was absolutely horrible. I was getting at most, 80KB/s download and 50 Kb/s upload. I always had 1 bar and connection often dropped on me. However, now I am getting nearly 2 MB/s DL and 1 MB/s upload speeds ON 3G, at my house. I thought Sprint had upgraded their towers near my house, so I was excited. However, I realized that when I go down the street, it's back at 1-2 bars, 2G speeds. I heard of an Airave (Did I say it right?) that acts as a mini tower for Sprint. Could one of my neighbors possibly bought one recently and my phones are sharing it with him/her?

Mine automatically uses the one at my sister's house when I visit, so I think your theory is right. I get great 3g speeds on the airave too.
How does this thing work? Maybe I can use one at my grandmas house.
I'm pretty sure the Airave does not do EVDO...

To find out if your within airave coverage, dial *99
If your in an airaved coverage, it will tell you. If your not, it will say this code is invalid.

Could be a airave, I got one and love it. Try placing a call and listen for 3 beeps before the call goes out, if you hear that you're on an airave.

You can visit any corporate store to get one. The new ones are sweet. Its 4.99 a month to use you plan minutes and 19.99 for unlimited calling while connected. You must also have high speed internet and a router

Regardless, I'll look into one of these anyways.
You guys should try out this app. It reports coverage and performance in your area to give a better idea which carrier and device are the best for cell phone networks.

I had to sync data before it showed any bars. Mine said 2.00, and that Jacksonville Florida is covered the best by Sprint. Idk if the app is just using my own carrier to display that though. I did this on a Nexus S 4G and now it's Sprint's top ranked phone in my area. LOL
Let's see if this one actually works. Sensorly reports all areas as 0/4 evdo coverage on the epic. No fix from the dev after many emails. Makes the maps untrusted big time. I tried the root metrics one and it does not report anything up in areas.

It's meant to be a statistics app, for now. It will have more features later.
Yeah, this doesnt work. I always get 0 bars with epic.... other phones work though, according to that chart thing..
I think the same reason this doesn't work on the Epic is the same reason Roam Control won't work on the Epic in Texas. Something about the tower tech if I remember correctly. Not sure on the details.

Not related at all. Roam control works fine everywhere. Its just the modem fails to roam on the PCS band. Seen it for myself. Stock Epic and stock TP2 with the same PRL. The TP2 had full Verizon signal on 1900mhz. Epic was searching for signal.
Are you guys running stock or a modded ROM? A theme without a proper network fix would have this error.

It worked for my Samsung Nexus S, but not the Epic. I'd assume it could be something to do with being on a custom ROM.

Edited OP to let people know this isn't working right on the epic. I think this is an epic specific issue because Evo (4g and 3D) owners' scores appear normal and even pretty good ~3.5 bars. It appears that only the epic isn't cooperating.
Only one I have seen work on the Epic is Cellumap. Seems like the other devs need to ask that dev how he does it
I had little to no service at my home for almost 2 weeks where I would usually get full bars but as of yesterday I get full.signal again and my 3g speeds have never been better. 2.5/1.2 mbs. Sprint seems to be getting things together

i hope they do that soon here. Thats how 3g was before the EVO and Epic came out with "4g"
although 4g definitely is a lot better these days...i get 8mb/s with a ping of ~50...Its NEVER dipped below 190 until a week ago.
Whatever this network vision thing is, im liking.
Now hopefully they can fix the problem where i go from 3 bars to 0 when i send a text or make a call and then get my bars back AFTER i hang up -_-

I was in Corpus Christi, TX the last few days. I remember the first night I got about 1.2Mbps dl and the next days or two I could barely get 100kbps. On the last day the speeds went back up. I'm pretty sure it was just my modem being lame (EG22).
Judging from similar topics in the past few months, this improvement seems to be the trend.

I don't think they have anywhere to go but up...its at rock bottom already.
If I remember right, a few months ago my signal and speed turned to complete crap. I tether while I'm at work so I can see the difference, and it was SLOOOOOWWWWWW.
About a month after that all of a sudden my 3g speeds jumped up and, most of the time, it's like I'm using the internet at home (aside of the random hiccups in speed). Now I'm hoping for 4g soon in my area

Pretty sure that is the Radio in your phone crashing and has nothing to do with Sprint's network. What Radio and ROM are you using? There have been known problems regarding this with the Gingerbread radios... EG22 still has this problem on my phone although not as frequently.

Its been like that for a while. I'm running stock ec05, but I tried the gb modems andthe same problem. Its really annoying :/ likejus a little wile ago I left my house and its sunny as **** in nyc right now and I called my friend and all my bars dropped and the call was lost -_- I had to toglle airplaneon and off to get it to stop
