I'm a newbie of Linux and Android. Please guys help me.I'm sorry for my English , it isn't perfect ,because I'm from Polish I'm still learning.
Hope you can find a solution.

Start at step #6.

Sorry ,it doesn't work.It stops on Flash Alternate Recovery and then I get an error "An error occurred while flashing your recovery".I did everything like you said but there's still no changes.
Help me please.

You may not actually be rooted. When you installed ROM Manager did you read all the windows that popped up. One of them would have said if you weren't rooted. Did you get a popup saying ROM Manager is asking for root permissions? If not, you need to just run that whole guide.

I'm not rooted.I tried a lot of methods of rooting and none works.SuperOneClick v1.7 gives me Superuser app and Root Explorer works well but i still can do nothing

Download Titanium Backup, open the program and hit the problems button, then it should download and install busybody for you. That may be what's missing. The other alternative would be to manually flash the recovery. I'll post that when I can get to a computer.

Try using ROM Manager to flash a new recovery again.
EDIT: If using ROM Manager again doesn't work, download this file and put it on your SD card. Then you can follow this post to manually install a custom recovery.

I have $ su and permission denied. What the hell is going on ?I can't stand this mobile.

Go back to my guide from post #2 and start from the beginning. After running the root test from SuperOneClick and getting "Success" immediately reboot the phone and then continue with the guide. It may just a take a few tries. Worse case scenario, you can downgrade.

su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
chmod 755 /system/bin/flash_image
mount -o remount,ro -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
flash_image recovery /sdcard/*name of recovery*.img
reboot recovery

I did SuperOneClick re-root , I did it like it is in the guide but still nothing changed.I don't know what to do.

You could always try doing a factory reset and then rooting using that guide. Maybe something got hosed on the phone keeping it from working properly. Alternatively, can you post the lost from SuperOneClick here.

I did it 3 times.I have SuperUser now ,but I still can't get a new ROM ,moreover I can't put the recovery.

Returned my phone to the Stock and it wont go back

I Had to take my phone back to sprint today for warrant repair so i ran the stock 1.56.651.2 RUU all was good. Got home and executed these commands
adb push asroot2 /data/local/
adb shell
chmod 0755 /data/local/asroot2
/data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh
And it spit out
$ /data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh
[+] Using newer pope_inode_info layout
Opening: /proc/752/fd/3
SUCCESS: Enjoy the shell.
#
Then I TYPED
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cd /system/bin9:
cat sh > su10:
chmod 4755 su
exit
exit
adb push recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2.img /sdcard
adb shell reboot
adb shell
su
cd /sdcard/
flash_image recovery recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2.img
It Returned to root # and then typed
reboot recovery
It did not boot into recovery any way i tried
So i went to execute the RUU 1.29.651.1 and now it gives me a error
Error[140] Bootloader version Error.
I checked my bootloader version in Hboot and it shows 1.41.00
Now im stumpped I cant get my root back and i cant flash a recovery ne ideas...........Please dont rip my ass for not searching i tried but nothing i saw pertained exactly to the cdma Hero.
once you run the 1.56 ruu you can't run the 1.29 ruu, as it overwrites the bootloader with a new updated one. bootloaders don't like to be downgraded. you are stuck with the 1.56 software. just run the 1.56 ruu again? why not?
Possibly a bad recovery flash. Try reflashing the image, maybe with the 1.6.2 RA Image.

The phone is still rootable. I tested it successfully using the auto-rooter in the pre-kitchen.
Fresh ROM still works just fine (as should any 1.56 based rom)
You will not be able to use the 1.29 RUU after this one, but I don't know of any reason that you would want to
Although some img's in the RUU have different dates than the original it appears that they are identical other than system.img
You don't need to run this unless you are trying to return your phone to stock. You won't get anything special from running it.

Sorry im still a bit on the newb side. J dog I didnt read far enough. That very well could of been a mistake that could of briked my phone. I i was doing something else.
You just taught me a major lesson. READ>READ>READ
But when you read the 1.6.2 forum it says in gigantic red letters This recovery is NOT yet fully compatible with the new apps2sd method!
Any i just realized jdog your not but 40 miles from me!!!!!
yep, well actually I'm a little north-east of kansas city, it's about 83 miles to topeka from here. (give or take)
read then read some more. then read more. anything you could possibly run into someone has done before.
you don't want to be in a hurry when you're flashing. also don't drink and flash. if you do make sure you have a designated nandroid-er.
when talking about not compatible with the new a2sd method, they mean the new version in cyanogen mods, of mounting the ext partition to /sd-ext as opposed to /system/sd, the only rom it could have any effect on here at the moment would be darchdroid, but I believe darch may have modded it in the port to keep it working on the hero's. The amon-ra recovery 1.7.0 supports cyan's new method, although I am not honestly sure if it supports the current method at the same time..
edit: basically, stick with 1.6.2 or godspeed recovery. try flashing again, I recommend the godspeed recovery as it runs faster (for me anyways), plus the thread will have instructions of how to flash.

Root my Sapphire PVT 32a

My girlfriend has the HTC Magic 'Sapphire PVT 32a Ship s-on H' we live in Australia and are on the 3 network.
Her phone is using Android 1.5, and was wondering what version of android i could upgrade to if i rooted her phone?
I am a complete noob when it comes to Android phones and just need a little direction as i have not done this before, i am a Ubuntu user so i can pick up directions very easily
You need to boot the phone into fastboot mode by pressing back+power to turn the phone on, then post everything here. If you rooted you could upgrade the phone all the way to 2.3.2 if you wanted (I think that's what Gingerbread is up to).
Hey Don, thanks heaps

You can use my guide here or mumilover's guide here. Main difference, with mine you'll go ahead and flash a new 2.1 ROM. With mumi's guide you'll root, install a custom recovery, and can optionally install an engineering SPL. You don't really need the engineering SPL unless you plan on doing some stuff from fastboot. In all honesty though, since your using Ubuntu, mumi's guide is the better way to go. The program used in my guide to get root requires you to have a Windows machine, else you'll have to manually use the exploit via terminal in Ubuntu.
I dual boot with Windows 7 so i might actually sign in with that unless i can use wine!1 lol I will try your tutorial as you are very helpful.
I just bought you a redbull, some vodka with it might be nice though hehe

One last question mate before i attempt your tutorial, if i make a mistake how would i restore my phone back to default incase i needed too?
Like i said i am a complete Android noob but i hope this changes when i get my Desire HD next week, been using my e72 for the last year, and before that the e71 :/ lol
There are ways to get back stock. The easiest way is to use an RUU or stock sappimg. Basically the RUU just uses a sappimg, but is a GUI that you can run in Windows to do all the "dirty" work. Just manually flashing the sappimg from the phone is usually the safer route though. Basically a sappimg is an image of the phone at stock (e.g. SPL/radio/ROM/recovery). The other option is a part of the guide. There's a toolset in the custom recovery you'll flash called nandroid which will make a backup of the phone's ROM that can be restored later on. It does not however include the SPL/radio/recovery, so if any of those get hosed we'd have to work out a different fix.
People have tried running SuperOneClick in Wine and haven't been able to get it to work. The manual method of rooting using the exploit from SuperOneClick is basically everything the program does for you.
Thanks again mate.
I am having problems with my computer seeing my phone. If i mount the SD card i can see this but i cannot sync to the phone grrr!! lol
When i load SuperOneClick the program says 'not responding' after about 10 seconds waiting for the device.
Even HTC Sync cannot see my phone.
You need to reinstall the drivers. Use this little guide to get them installed properly.

Very true. You can manually flash the recovery from terminal. I'll link those instructions in a few minutes.

Use this little guide to manually flash recovery. You can download the recovery image from here. Once you get the recovery loaded and upgraded to a new ROM you can go back to using ROM Manager and ClockWorkMod since you paid for it.
Thanks heaps mate, i will be buying you 3 redbulls today!! lol You support is awesome.
I just copied the recovery image to my SD card and downloaded 'backup and recovery' by o'reilly media. I will read back over your tutorial and see how i go
Hey Don, sorry to bother mate.
So this manual flash instructions above, will replace step 7?
7. Once they both are installed, open ROM Manager. Click "OK" to both the prompts that come up. At the top, click the "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" button. A prompt will come up asking you to confirm your phone model. If you have a 32B phone or the myTouch 1.2 (headphone jack), select "ION/MyTouch 3G". If you have a 32A phone without a headphone jack, select HTC Magic. Once it has finished flashing, click OK. Scroll to the bottom of the ROM Manager menu and select "Flash Alternate Recovery". If you have a 32B/1.2 phone you should see "RA Recovery v1.7.0G". If you have a 32A without a headphone jack, you should see "RA Recovery v1.7.0H". Once verified to be correct, select that option and then click OK. Once completed click OK again. Power off your phone.
NOTE: I use these steps to get Amon Ra's Recovery installed since the steps in this guide will be using it and not Clockwork Mod. If, after getting more familiar with using recovery, you want to use ClockworkMod recovery instead, the steps are the same, just don't select the "Flash alternate recovery" option.

You don't need an app to manage recovery and yes my steps from the link above will replace step 7 from the original guide.

I am being very cautious as i dont want to to brick the phone, but in terminal when i write this:
flash_image recovery /sdcard/*name of recovery*.img
Is the image name boot.img
No, the *name of recovery*.img part is the name of the recovery image. If you downloaded the recovery from the link above, it should already be named "recovery.img". So in that case, the command would be:
Code:
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
Hey mate when i do the last step
su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image

As you are rooted, you could flash recovery using terminal on the phone.
install terminal and Superuser from market
download CWM recovery 3.0.2 from Kalims' thread and place it in root of your sdcard
download flash_image to root of your sdcard
enter following commands in terminal
Code:
su
cp /sdcard/flash_image /data/local/flash_image
cd /data/local
chmod 04755 flash_image
./flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery_3.2.0.1.img
Thans. I will try it. Is it posibble to install newer version of CWM via terminal?

Try this
Do u have Universal Androot still installed on ur phone? If its there, then re-root with it and launch ROM Manager immediately after that. Flash recovery TWICE. The new CWM has problems flashing in 1st go.
And secondly, if u are on stock ROM, before updating recovery, always re-root with Androot. Because after every reboot, the tattoo_hack.ko module gets unloaded from the memory if you used Universal Androot on stock ROM.
Things to know while rooting stock ROM:
1. HTC Tattoo is HTC's first NAND locked device preventing users to write to system and recovery under normal conditions.
2. This NAND lock can be defeated by inserting tattoo_hack.ko module. This module was created on taking the help of info from a leaked QualComm datasheet.
3. The module needs to be inserted prior to writing to system or flashing recovery.
4. The manual rooting method and Maveric/NTenisOT 1-click method flashes a custom boot.img after rooting so that the NAND remains unlocked everytime the device is used. On the other hand, Universal Androot unlocks the NAND temporarily while rooting and unrooting. If Androot is used, the device gets permanently rooted, but the NAND locks itself after a reboot, until Androot is used again or tattoo_hack is inserted.
5. Custom 1.6, 2.1, 2.2 roms have tattoo_hack added to their modules list to keep NAND unlocked while device is running. On 2.3, however, the unlock code is compiled into the kernel, so the module is not needed.
6. We deal with this module because no one has developed S-OFF for the Tattoo.
7. Most users forget about this module once their Tattoo is rooted. New users oversee this module and run into problems. The CyanogenMod wiki is misleading in 'How to root Tattoo' because of this.
Finally, please sticky this info if possible because I tell this to everyone who has rooting problems.
Thanks. I did everething just like you sad, but no luck.

Go to universal androot. Hit root again. Let it complete.
Then use Root Explorer and mount /system as rw. Or u ca also use Terminal Emulator. Just type these.
su
mount -o remount rw /system
Close terminal.
Go to ROM Manager. Tap Flash ClockWorkMod recovery. First it will take time. Let it successfully flash. Tap again. Let it flash. Tap again. Let it flash.
I am telling you to tap this many times. Because CWM 5.0.2.0 doesnt flash easily. I got so many failed flashes even on CM7. It only gets flashed after a couple of time.
Otherwise, hit menu button on ROM Manager, slect settings and check mark 'Erase recovery before flashing'. Go back and flash recovery twice.
Finally reboot manually. No need to use ROMManager's reboot option. I read that it works rather badly on Android 1.x. Boot with HOME+POWER.
Lemme know.
Btw, the safest method to flash recovery is NTenis's tool. Used it many times without problems because it flashes the boot to disable the write-protection.

[GUIDE] CWM Recovery Solution-Idea Blade

Hello Mates,
Here I am posting the Way, Methods and Files to get rid of the problem arised with the latest recovery 5.0.2.0 in Idea Blades. I have found the way to solve it out through this thread thanks to Tetora.
The error will somehow as pasted below when You boot into recovery:
E:failed to find "cache" partition to mount at "/cache"
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:failed to find "cache" partition to mount at "/cache"
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't find misc
E:failed to find "cache" partition to mount at "/cache"
Due to this error one can not do anything in recovery like backup, restore, wiping, flashing roms , etc. and which is very annoying. This happens because the CWM reject or failed to identify the root access of the device.
Even I have a headache on my birthday due to the problem. I have followed that thread (post above) posted by tetora and sorten out the problem.
Now I can flash, backup, restore and can do anything with the recovery
There are two methods to get the recovery Working:
1 . Through ADB
Attached is the file to flash via adb.. Please follow the steps given below (thanks to matt4321) :
The 'flash_image' is within the attached zip file! Use the file within the zip file, NOT the zip file itself
The 'recovery.img' is your chosen recovery file, get this off ClockworkMods website or if you have a copy use that. Then when flashing the recovery image where ever it says 'recovery.img' replace that with the name of the recovery file. following me?
Here's the instructions:
(make sure you're in the command prompt and have changed directory to where the adb file is)
adb push c:\flash_image /sdcard/
adb push c:\recovery.img /sdcard/
adb shell
su
mount -o remount, rw /system
cp /sdcard/flash_image /system/bin
cd /system/bin
chmod 777 flash_image
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
and then boot into recovery now everything should work perfectly.
A big thanks to tetora for finding the recovery image file and matt4321 for his commands
2. Through Recovery Manager:
Install the application Recovery Manager v0.37b.apk
Extract the image file from recovery zip and place in the SD card.
Open the application "Recovery Manager"
Go in recovery Tab to flash the recovery img. Once you select to "Flash Recovery" it will search the img file automatically.
After flashing recovery you are done.
Thanks to ramubhat for providing procedure and testing the same.
You can use this link for the second method.
Disclaimer- I will not responsible for any damage so use it at your risk
Don't worry there is no other options left apart from it and its 99% safe.
Can confirm this works, I've done it loads of times!
PS: thanks for the thanks
Will add this in the sticky guide.

If you have used Z4root v2 (modded one) than it will aquire root in your cell. However if you are not sure then you can download the application "root check basic" from playstore to check whether you are rooted or not.
hmmmm does the issue mentioned in first post occur after sometime as I have the mentioned recovery flashed already on my Blade and so far never had an issue!!
Now what would be good is a touch version of the recovery being available for the Blade!

Nope it's a UK ZTE Blade(san francisco)
I came across this thread somedays ago to help one of my friend.
should u guys need to build a touch recovery, u can build it yourself from here.
http://builder.clockworkmod.com/
just put the stock or any other custom recovery image and build a touch recovery.
Although its written that the touch recovery works only on ICS kernel but I used it even on Froyo and GB kernel.
warning: do it at ur own risk
cheers
