Hey guys, i finally registered here too since this is an awesome side and you are doing an awesome job!
iam from germany thinking about importing the Atrix from USA. i got a few questions though:
1) it should work in germany since its quadband and supports 2100 right?
2) i really hate motoblur is it possible to delete it with the root? or do you have to crack the bootloader first? if it is possbile how is it going to start without motoblur?
3) anyone know a good webside where its really unlocked? i saw some unlocked phones on ebay (USA) but they say it uses AT&T 3G so iam worried its not really unlocked... or am i mixing something here?
thanks for help.
take care

from the specs here : http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_atrix-3709.php it does support 2100 band, I'm not sure about deleting motorblur but others have rooted and installed other launchers fine. You can check out the themes section and look at other users UI. I have no clue on unlock..
thanks for the answer. is there a "how to" install other launchers? i've just found a "how to root" the atrix on youtube.

so it would be possible to install other launchers with the root? thats good news.

They're available in the Market under "LauncherPro" and "ADW Launcher".
But nobody knows the actual Unlock code yet...so getting a real unlocked Atrix might be tough.
just to make sure i understood it right. i can "delete" Motoblur as launcher and set another launcher instead of motoblur?
i think i found an ebay shop with unlocked Atrix... 800$ is pretty much though...
thanks for all your help.

you don't have to delete Motoblur to use another launcher. When you have another launcher in place, motoblur is still on the phone, it is just not being used. You wouldn't even know it is there.
I'm using LaucherPro Plus from the market and it works great with this phone. This can be done with or without root.

Ok cool. I'm hoping to see it get rooted soon so I can do some of that stuff. I'm not an owner quite yet but tomorrow I will be . I still can't seem to be able to find paid apps on the phone when I was playing around with his. Are paid apps not available in Canada or something? That doesn't make much sense to not allow this in Canada. Anyways..thanx for the info!

That is correct, paid apps are not available for Canadians yet. That is another advantage of being able to load on another rom.
Ok, well, yesterday I bought a T-Mobile myTouch 3G aka HTC Magic. I have a couple of questions, hopefully you people can answer them for me.
1) Do I need to hack my myTouch to install themes? (by hack I mean "jailbreak", if anyone had an iPhone or iPod touch then you know what I mean by jailbreak) or do I get to install themes as soon as I get my phone?
2) I have a two-year protection warranty with my myTouch, if I do need to hack/jailbreak it. Would it ruin that warranty?
3) Can I mess up my myTouch if I do anything wrong in the process of jailbreaking/hacking it?
4) Last question, where can I find out how to hack/jailbreak it? Can you give me a link?
Thanks to whomever answers my questions.
EDIT: One more question
5) My girlfriend had a G1, and she claims that you only could log into one of the messengers at a time. Does that change with the myTouch? Can I log into my AIM, MSN, and Yahoo at the same time without it kicking me out?

Nope - alternative home apps are plenty. Start with Freshface (a free basic theming application) to get a sample.
Expect some impact on phone performance if you run an alternative home app. (YMMV)

Without looking at the terms, probably yes (unless you can return it to vanilla pre-root state, or the claim is for a phone so borked that it can't be checked).

This is the method I used to root my phone, and I did not have any problems. Just make sure you follow the instructions! Also, the written instructions on the page are updated a little newer than the video, so make sure you READ all the instructions. It's a little more than 'one click' but a lot easier than some methods. You can also search the android development forums here for alternate guides.
If you follow them properly, you should be good to go.
Happy modding!
is there a change we would have root soon as the Arc wil be released ?
otherwise i have to go for the SGS2
We won't know til we try it! Shouldn't think it would take long though..
Sent from my X10 using XDA and Swype.
That all depends on how locked down the Arc has been. The X10 still hasn't had the bootloader fully cracked yet.
locked bootloader?
will the arc have a locked bootloader?
i mo more will buy a device with a locked bootloader.
Yes, the Arc, Neo, Pro and Play come with a locked bootloader. Can't see why SE would unlock it.
thats silly though... In that case, a lot of android/root lovers wouldnt buy the phone simply because the bootloader is locked.
For instance, I do not even consider the atrix a choice for a future phone because of the locked bootloader, I wish they let you do what you wanted with your phone, because they can always say **** you if you violate the warranty

Many are going with the locked bootloader now, even Samsung ( though developers managed to unlock in a short time )
Plus, you'll be amazed by the speed of 2.3 OS and its functionality, so I don't think we'll need Custom ROMs and rooting ( keep in mind that most users here seek those because of the stock OS being unreliable and very slow ) talking about all devices prior to 2.3 OS
+1 that was the main reason i rooted in the end... Still on stock rom on my x10 but had optimised for performance. Won't both doing that if the arc runs well.. I like the ui a well as the physical design.. That's why I choose SE over htc/ others.

That is for sure a fact for me as well and as you mentioned only reason to go with SE. (Sony in General).
Rooting will let you do more tweaks as much as possible and unless you are into playing with your phone deep, you don't need it. Hopefully SE will do a better job in terms of support than what they did with X10 and X2 and X1.

True, but I like using it to backup unwanted preloaded system apps etc. before removing/freezing them Already have a paid license from when I was screwing around with the ROM on my IS01, and it's a little easier than digging around in the folders for the right apks.
And yeah, wireless tethering is a big one. No idea how I forgot about it.

As far as I know, Sony Ericsson is the only vendor that has firmware specific for Belgium. On the X10 for example you can only get Youtube if you manually install the APK from somewhere else. (X10 = 2.1, so no Youtube from the market anyway)
At the press event the people from Sony Ericsson said you can just install Youtube from the market on 2.3 (I think). In any case, I just ordered the Dutch version, it comes with completely generic firmware, and faster updates. Belgium was always a few weeks behind.
Think this has gone a bit off topic, but in general the arc should be an easy one to root, since it can be purchased with an unlocked bootloader ect.

Finally picked up the Rogers Branded Xperia Arc this morning. Unlocked it through the htccode.com folks.
In the box, there's the requisite charger and cable, HDMI cable and a set of headphones. It also includes a 16GB microSD card. BTW, the phone is running v181 of the software.
Overall, the phone is pretty unique. It feels quite light for its size and the curve in the back doesn't feel too weird. The screen looks quite sharp, but I haven't had a chance to play around with it that much! BTW, looks like the SE skin isn't too intrusive (unlike Motoblur) but I don't think it's as good as HTC Sense. BTW, there is the option to enable WiFi hotspot (a key requirement for me)!
I've attached some pics below.
Got it rooted with Gingerbreak! Installed the apk on the SD card, installed it and then ran Gingerbreak with no issues.
Anyone other Canadians with Arcs on this forum?
Got mine this morning as well! Was first one in the store when it opened Device is amazing!
Ya, the phone is great. So glad the root came out right before we got the phone. Lol.
Aside from being able to use the phone on other networks, what benefit does the unlock give?

If you're rooted, you can always use Titanium Backup to strip out some or all of the bloatware.
Not a perfect solution, obviously but it's better than nothing.

You need to Flash a generic ROM to get rid of bootscreen.
I'm new to Andriod "Smartphone" as you can tell from how many post I have.
So, I bought out the phone.
There are things I need to remove "bloatwares" from Rogers and other apps.
So, rooting the phone gives you access to superuser and I see that apps can be removed.

Smart Call is a feature I love on Samsung phones.
I just picked up a dual sim S8+ last week, and I can't find where to enable it. Samsung's website says to do it through 'Caller ID and spam protection' in the Call settings, but this is not an option I have.
Is this not a feature available on the international model or did Samsung remove it from Oreo?
Smart Call is available for phones meant to be shipped to US. I don't think it would work on your phone as it's not meant to be sold in US. Samsung uses HIYA to provide the smart call service. Installing HIYA yourself should also give you pretty similar results. Personally I like TrueCaller better as it works for Individual callers also and not just Businesses as in HIYA. TrueCallers database is much more robust.
