Does the Xoom have a gyroscope sensor? - Xoom General

I couldn't find any info on that?

It does

Nice!! Thanks! It has a barometer too? I wonder what that could be used for?

I read somewhere that it would make weather predictions more accurate and perhaps some hobby meteorologist will get excited Apart from that I coudn't think what good it will do!

It's for accurately measuring your altitude without using GPS.
For example, a mall map app could know what floor you were on.

Are you sure it's THAT sensitive?!??! I highly doubt that some 10 feet will have a different pressure especially since there's a more or less constant pressure via the HVAC. But I'm no expert!

You know all those 3D buildings in Google maps, this sensor will reportedly tell you what FLOOR you're on. I dont think Google Maps has that sensor built in yet, but I'm sure they will soon.
It all helps more accurately tell your GPS position by altitude. If your on a small hill, the altitude will help the GPS better lock on your position. GPS is (x.y).. adding the barometer makes your position (x,y,z).
How accurate it will be, we'll soon see.

Actually, GPS is XYZ. The problem though is that the Z is +/- a couple hundred feet which is not good enough to know what floor you are on.
Also, the barometer can give you altitude inside a building where a gps can't lock or will take too long to lock.

What about an app that autosets to airplane mode in case you forgot. That would be enough pressure.

How 'bout that compass? defective or just mine?

No matter how I try to calibrate my compass, it's grossly inaccurate. Simple test with any compass app: Calibrate, set flat on metal-free surface with nothing large and metal nearby, rotate Epic so heading is north (0deg), then rotate device physically 180deg. Compass app should also read close to 180.
Mine never does. Always off a lot, often as much as 20-25 degrees.
Another way to test: Same environment, take two heading readings with 180° physical rotation between. Add them, should be close to 360°. Mine's always Much more, regardless of the starting orientation.
This makes the compass useless, and impacts all sorts of other programs that rely on, orientation information.
Do I have a bad Epic, or is this a known problem?

Mine is beyond awful. Its to the point where I don't even think there is a digital compass in my phone.
Its horrible, doesn't work in 2.1. Works well in 2.2 though... if your GPS wasn't totally borked by flashing it (like mine wasn't).

[Q] My direction is opposite in Google Map.

Hi. I've used my tab for one month. Everything is good.
but I find one problem today.
My direction is opposite in google map.
if when I indicate right direction the blue triangle indicates left direction like follow
picture. But the compass function is good. Just my direction is opposite in map.
So.. is there any app for fixing this problem or can I fix this in my tab?

Are you using GPS or just WiFi? Try going outside and turning on your GPS.
are you using a case with a magnet latch?
is the gps turned on? if the gps is off the tablet will use the built in magemometer as a compass which is not very accurate since it reacts easily to metal objects

Well, the only way you'll get an actual GPS reading is from being outside, or at least right at a window that has a good field of view to the sky.
Otherwise, your tab's internal compass might just be a bit faulty, or there's something metallic or electromagnetic inside your house that is interfering with it.
Could it be that you tapped your compass icon on the map? Try tapping it and see if that helps....
Install and run GPS Status. In the Setting->Tools you can find tools to calibrate your compass. Following the instructions there and hopefully it would solve your problems.

GPS survey

Evening folks, had my phone sent back to LG to sort out inaccurate GPS I had locking difficulties.
Now it locks pretty good but I'm still get pretty rubbish GPS readings compared to wife's s3 mini
Where in the house she can get lock on down to five metres next to the window where my g2 will not find a satellite
Yes I do have high accuracy on and all the other mods
Can you guys give me how good your accuracy is on GPS status or any other GPS program and if you can get GPS lock inside a building would be appreciated so I have some evidence to go back to LG as there have never heard of this GPS fault even though I've noticed quite a lot of folk complain.
Thank you

I just recently got a VS980 and one of the first thing I noticed was a less the perfect GPS. It will lock outdoors in under 10 seconds but indoors near a window 30 sec+ or not at all. It will generally maintain a lock if I bring it indoors however. Accuracy is usually 35-50 ft with 7-12 satellites. I verified the GPS antenna has a good connection under the back cover. The G2 GPS is usable but I guess I was spoiled by my old Moto Bionic which locks in seconds indoors or out and is accurate to ~10ft typically (using 6-7 satellites).
Totally agree the g2 is a very impressive phone and would love to have half decent GPS

But what is your accuracy according to GPS Status would be nice for your feedback

It would be good to know the following:
G2 model number or carrier
Time to lock and specify conditions (indoors house, building, outdoors clear view, city ...)
Accuracy using GPS Test, GPS Status & Toolbox or similar
Number of satellites locked (including US GPS and GLONASS)
Any feedback on navigation (direction changing, rerouting often...)

thanks for the fix i will try it out
sounds like that fix would work but if you mess it up, its the whole gps of the phone in tatters were with the back case you can always change it.
So i have my gps working now down to 3m accuracy and can get fix indoors, it was a pretty simple fix, i cut a small section of a plastic card( similar to bank card, clubcard - USE AN OLD CARD) and this is the important part!!!!!
you have to make sure its small enough so the black connector strip on the top right hand side covers the whole plastic so you talking MM, not cms....
has the case will not close and the connection wont be perfect...
after a few trials and errors i can now say my gps is fixed!!!!!
if anyone needs any help please ask, and i will help.

I had done something similar on the Verizon model which has only a single connection. I used cellphone tape doubled over and put it between the copper tab on the cellphone back cover and the hard plastic stop used to hold the tab in place. I can see the slightest bulge when I snap everything back in place so I know it makes a good contact. After all that I don't think I had a bad connection in the first place, it's just this GPS doesn't perform as well as others I am used to. It locks Ok outdoors and navigation seems to be working but no long trips yet.

wilks you need to get rid of the buldge, try the credit card method, because mine is perfect now constantly getting between 3/4m on GPS status not sure how that converts to your u.s feet measurment
Inside a building G2 can't find my location but SGS3 can.
Ls980 with stock or cloudy g3 gps can't lock inside building. Outdoor just lock 3-5 satellite with 30-50ft accuracy and frequently lost satellite connection. All trick with the antenna in the backcover not work for me.

GPS Issues?

Last night I turned to Google Maps for the first time since switching from an iPhone 6s Plus. I was used to instant satellite fixes and precise positioning on the map. Instead, my s7 edge placed me hundreds of meters away in the middle of the Tiber river. As I drove, fix updates were intermittent and wildly fluctuating. The device proved unless when walking, too. I've checked to make sure that all location features are on.
Anyone experiencing similar issues?
Thanks.
I had the note 4 and that phone was terrible at gps signal, I switched to iphone 6+ and never once experienced a gps issue. Now i have edge s7 and its been better but a few instances it has lost gps signal.... it must be a samsung or android thing, its too bad ill be switching to iphone 7 , i love android but honestly iphone are simply better at what they do. Heck even the fingerprint all the apps worked fine with iphone , I can't get more than 1 app working on my edge.
Yeah, a deal breaker for me as I live in Rome, Italy and really need reliable GPS to find my way around. Guess it's back to the iPhone. sigh
It seems like it's the magnetic sensor the problem. Try dialing *#0*# and under Sensor, and then look at the Magnetic Sensor, should be a blue line and a "3" in the black circle, if not, that's why your GPS is going crazy.
Here's my thread about the problem, post in it if you could:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3339976

I'm interested in knowing if you guys have a fix for this issue. I checked my sensor and the line was red with a "0". I calibrated it, and it looks fine... However, I guess I will lose this if I reboot the phone?

That is correct, once you reboot, you have to recalibrate the GPS/Magnetic Sensor... Oh, @opeth771 where are you located?
I'm trying to figure out if it's Exynos only, as currently that seems to be the case.
GPS has been awesome on my S7 Edge Snapdragon. Fastest and most accurate signal compared to any other android phone I have owned.

Do you mind dialing *#0*# and looking under Sensors and Magnetic Sensor and see what is in the black circle, and this after you've rebooted your phone?
Curious if those of you with an Exynos are using branded phones that have received firmware updates or not. Mine was purchased direct from Samsung Italia and has not received any recent OTA updates that I understand were pushed by some providers. Just looking for possible clues.
How to calibrate? I have a red line with 0, self test says PASS. Is the noise test to calibrate? Do i have to put it on a stable surface for calibrating and does GPS need to be on?

I want to buy the S7 but I am worried about gps. I don't use gps with car, I use it while i'm walking and playing Ingress, often in narrow streets with high buildings (I live in Italy), so I need a very accurate positioning. What is the accuracy of the S7 GPS outdoor? Can you please make a test with the app ''GPS test''? And maybe post a screenshot of the accuracy and of the satellite's signal strenght? Thank you.

I'll do in the morning and post then. I'm also in Italy. I have an issue that degrades my GPS accuracy - the compass needs to be recalibrate after each restart. Otherwise, accuracy is off hundreds of meters. Seems to affect the non-SD units like those sold here.

Hall sensor is not a magnetometer and doesn't work as a compass, it just detects flip protection covers to turn the screen on/off when open/closed, so no, the magnetometer is not listed there. Thank you anyway.

I did a deep dive on this about 5 months ago. The magnetometer used in the A1 is a AK09918 by AsashiKashei. That may be or not be what Xiaomi means by Hall sensor, but I took it to mean it was. Your interpretation may vary. You are welcome.
AK09918 is 3-axis electronic compass IC with high sensitive Hall sensor technology.
