[Q] Can't get 3G to work. - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hey XDA,
I'm running darkstone SuperRAM FroYo v1.5 on my phone and so far I love it.
There's only one problem, I can't get my 3G to work.
After looking around for a bit I noticed a few other dutch people having the same problem.
I've already tried this:
Guide to enable 3G data connection on Android HTC HD2
Click on ‘Windows hardware button’ at main screen.
Go to ‘Settings’.
Select ‘Wireless & networks’
Check ‘Mobile network ~ Use phone for data connection when WiFi is unavailable’.
Select ”Mobile network ~ Set options for roaming, networks, APNs’.
Select ‘Access Point Names’. Note – A blank APNs page will be shown.
Click on ‘Windows hardware button’. It will bring up 2 options ~ ‘New APN’ and ‘Reset to default’.
Select ‘New APN’.
Key in ‘My APN’ by clicking on ‘Name’. Note – you can key in any name you want. I selected ‘My APN’.
Key in ‘My APN’ by clicking on ‘APN’. Note – you can key in any APN you want. I selected ‘My APN’.
Click on ‘Windows hardware button’.
Then click on ‘Save’.
Select on ‘My APN’.
You are done.
But no luck, anyone else know a fix?
Thnx in advance

the name, as you said can be anything, but shouldnt APN be the address of the APN?
for example, mine, O2 uk, is
APN name - anything
APN - mobile.o2.co.uk (or wap.o2.co.uk - depends which apn im setting up)

I've done it with the correct settings and all, it just wont work.

Yes, it does say 3G and one of the arrows lights up when I attempt to load a webpage, but it just won't load the page. I get an error the first time I try to load a page, after that it just tries to load it.

Drop 3G as well
Mine's worst,
Tmobile USA, check the APN setting and everything correct.
Was working yesterday and all of sudden no more 3G signal
White out, and it says limited service
can someone chime in?

To the both of you: do you have a data capable subscription? If you don't have it, then it won't work. Otherwise if its capable, your provider should activate it. You can always setting up the APN's and save. Then turn off your device for about 10 minutes and switch it back on

Give a try changing kernels.

how about APN type? what did you put for that?
If its a joint data and mms APN, it should say * , or 'default, supl, mms' (without '')
If its an mms only APN, then set APN type to mms
ALso, when you see the APN in the list, before you open its details, is the radio button to the right highlighted? cos if it isn't tap it and it will highlight, and you should find it starts to work.
(This radio button wont exist for APNs with APN type set to only mms)

GPRS and MMS Settings Vodafone (PDA2K, XDAIIs) :)

Hi all,
Finally figured out how to set my iMate PDA2K for Vodafone (Netherlands). Other countries should be similar I think, and you can find the specifics in other threads or on the net.
Step 1: Setting up Vodafone GPRS:
Go to Start > Settings > Connections
Click on Connections
Click on Make New Connection (under "My Home Network" or whatever the top section says)
Enter Connection Name: Vodafone GPRS (or whatever you like)
Select a modem: Cellular Line (GPRS)
Click on Next
Access Point Name: live.vodafone.com
Click on Next
Username: vodafone
Password: vodafone
Click on Finish
Step 2: Setting up Vodafone MMS:
Go to Messaging (Start -> Messaging)
Click on Tools (at the bottom)
Click on MMS Settings
Under Connect via: Select where you made your GPRS connection (My Home Network for example)
Click on the Servers tab
Click on New
Server name: Vodafone MMS (or whatever you want to call it)
Gateway: 192.168.251.150
Port number: 9201
Sever address: http:##//mmsc.mms.vodafone.nl/ (DO NOT ENTER THE TWO ## ON YOUR UNIT)
Sending size: 100k
Click OK
Now select the Vodafone MMS icon and click Set as Default
Click OK
Click on Tools
Click Options
Click on Storage Tab
Check Store attachments on storage card
Click OK
Done
These settings worked fine for me...I hope this helps some people!
settings for telfort?
I have a telfort simcard in a Tmobile MDA2 I live in NetherlandsI cant connect to the internet, I cant get settings for my MDA2 from telfort.
Any idea if its possible?
Have a look here (Google can do wonders sometimes ):

Or here:
http://telfort.custhelp.com/cgi-bin...2x2bDE9NzMmcF9wcm9kX2x2bDI9JnBfcGFnZT0x&p_li=
And give it a try! If you have a prepay subscription, I think the settings are slightly different.
Cheers.

XDA 2 in need of GPRS & WAP & MMS settings for VodaF

Hi guys,
I'm giving my sister my old XDA 2 for Christmas (finally have the very slow XDA exec!) I've unlocked it and have a Vodafone PAYG sim card installed - running fine. I just need the connection settings so I can enable it to go online and send Media messages. Any one have a clue? It would mean so much to me - and I'll make a donation to the site if any tips work on my old phone.
cheers

Voda settings
To set up Internet access on the device:
1. Click on START.
2. Click on Settings.
3. Click on Connections at bottom of screen.
4. Click on Connections icon at top right of screen.
5. Under ISP click on Add a new modem connection.
6. Enter a name for the connection (e.g. Internet).
7. Under Select a modem, choose Cellular line (GPRS).
8. Click Next.
9. Under Access point name type internet (note: this is case sensitive).
10. Click Next.
11. Under User name type web (note: this is case sensitive).
12. Under Password type web (note: this is case sensitive).
13. Click Finish.
14. The QTEK is now configured to use Vodafone GPRS.
Double check that the device is using this modem connection as its default connection by going into ‘Manage existing connections’ (Start, Settings, Connections, Connections), and ensuring that the black bullet point is next to the account that you have just created.
Setting up MMS:
Go to the messages section (Start, Messaging) and browse to the MMS inbox (using the drop down box labelled inbox in the left hand corner of the screen).
Select Menu (bottom right of screen) and select MMS Configuration.
The device should already have an account present and on the first screen the tick boxes that are checked are for your own personal choice (the ones on this device have ‘retrieve messages immediately’, ‘download on home network only’, and ‘save sent messages’ ticked.
On the Servers tab you should have a ‘Contract MMS’ account already created. If this is the case you’ll need to select the account and choose ‘Set as Default’.
If you do not have this account already created you should choose ‘New’ and enter the following details:
Server name: Vodafone MMSC
Gateway: 212.183.137.12
Port Number: 9201
Server Address: http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms
Connect via: The WAP Network
Sending Size limitation: 100k (recommended – but you may change this if you wish)
WAP Version: WAP 1.2
By the way.....
If the GPRS fails to connect first time you may need to click the antenna icon near the signal reception and 'turn on flight mode'. This will disable the phone recption. Then click again and 'turn off flight mode' to reactivate the phone reception. It should then connect ok (by going into Internet Explorer and trying to get to a web page of your choice).
Hi
This are the setting that you need:
Make or edit a connection under My isp
APN: internet
Password: web
Username: web
Make or edit a connection under My Work Network this is needed for MMS
APN: wap.vodafone.co.uk
Username: [email protected]
Password: user
Go to your messanger and configure the MMS Configuration under server make or edit the server:
Gateway: 212.183.137.12
Port Number: 9201
Server Address: http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms
That is all you need good luck and merry christmas.

well, lets start off with what kind of phone do you have? Is it a Herald? and you're trying to use it on Tmobile USA?
Are you running the stock HTC rom on it? or have you installed a 3rd party rom from this site or something?

ok, mine is with at&t rom, i guess (i'm new to pocketpc phones so im not sure), so first i did:
start -> setting -> connections -> connections ad deleted "MEdia Net" and renamed it to T-Mo Data.
Then this:
Tap Start.
Tap Settings.
Tap on the Connections tab.
Tap the Connections icon.
Tap Add a new modem connection under T-Mo Data.
Enter T-Mo MMS in the Enter a name for the connection field.
Tap to select Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G) from the Select a modem drop down list.
Tap Next.
Enter wap.voicestream.com in the Access point name field.
Tap Next.
Tap Finish (leaving all blank)
Then:
Tap Start again.
Tap Messaging.
Tap Messages.
Tap Menu.
Tap MMS Options.
Tap the Servers tab.
There i had AT&T MMS so i deleted it
Tap New.
Enter T-Mo MMS in the Server Name field.
Enter 216.155.165.050 in the Gateway field.
Enter 8080 in the Port number field.
Enter http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms in the Server address field.
Tap to select T-Mo Data from the Connect via drop down list.
Tap DONE
and that worked for me...
Trying again, and again, and again..........
Ok, I've cleared everything on my settings and input exactly (again) these settings. I have noticed that the selection for connections does not have 3G listed, just GPRS. Does that make a difference??

no...it should not...it is just about the speed (gprs - slowest, hpsdpa - fastest)
other way (this is what i did) - install a new ROM for yourself...i got my new Duttys ROM and it is great, a lot of faster and it downloads settings automatically.
Sounds good
Ok, where?? will it take long??

it takes about 15-25 minutes.
if you don't want to read this - http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=DuttySeriesKaiser
(you should if you want to know what's going on)
you can download this file first:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=53280&d=1191643466
(it is from that thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679)
if it won't install correctly (white screen) you also have to download and install this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354061
then you should do a backup of your files
and when you install HARDspl you have to install this:
http://www.4shared.com/account/file...ficial_WM61_Release.html?sId=njZCc1kfvTkcmXjJ
then perform a hard reset and that's it, you'll have a new ROM on your device
and the end you probably will have to install one of the compatible radios, for ex this ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Kaiser/Radio/KAIS_Radio_Only_1.64.08.21_CustomRUU.rar
and that's it..
if you have any questions try looking at the second post here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369505 or send me PM. i learned all the stuff yesterday so i'm still a newbie here, but everything works great on my kaiser so far. (finally)
you have t-mobile, so i thought you had a wing.. but, you said you said you have if a herald. either way, neither of them have a 3g chip... i think.
your herald & t-mobile should use gprs and edge.. no 3g.. and definitely not 3.5 g(hsdpa).. for mms i believe it connects to gprs
if you have network wizard... look here
start --> settings --> connections --> network wizard
start --> programs --> network wizard
might be in one of those
if you have the stock rom and it's not there..
then try this..
you will select your country and your carrier.. and it will set up your data / network connections for you.
HTC Network Wizard v1.0 Build 29982.1.0.1.7
i think there's a newer one, but that one should work.
that also maybe useful: http://tmobileuspublic.wdsglobal.com/phonefirst

O2 HD2 MMS settings/configuration

Hey Folks,
I'm having difficulty setting up MMS on the HD2, I have just called O2 and they don't support this device. Does anyone know how to configure the settings manually for MMS messaging?
Hi, I got these settings from an helpful O2 rep.
MMS setup – ensure GPRS settings are completed
· Select 'Start' > Select 'Messaging' > Select 'Menu' > Select 'MMS Configuration' or ‘tools’ > Select 'Servers' tab > Select 'New'
· Type in Server name or 'O2 MMS'
· Select 'Gateway' and type in '193.113.200.195'
· Select 'Port number' and type in '9201'
· Select 'Server address' and enter 'http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002'
· Select 'Connect via' and select 'My Work Network''
· Click 'OK'
· Highlight 'O2 MMS' and click on 'Set As Default'
are you having trouble sending MMS messages? I ran the auto setup function and I can send messages fine....problem is...I'm not receiving any!!
and I cant see any way to enter the setting manually since message menu doesn't exist.
tried the 02 website, it just says there's a problem and can't proceed....tried texting for the settings, doesn't work either
so...any more ideas?

MMS problems not SMS
Yea I got the manual configuration settings from 02 aswell but unfortunatly the options are not available in the HD2, don't know if its a HTC sense thing or a WM6.5 design change to the UI that disables the old MSS configuration settings... anyone got suggestions... I hate having one of the best phones on the market and can''t receive MMS's ;-(

oops sorry
my mms will send but not receive .grr.. least got sms working tho
Anybody solve this issue, I can send but not receive MMS on O2 in the UK.
I just use the settings that the phone sets up for O2, they are the contract settings though and not PAYG, just tried it now and I also can send mms but can't receive them, and O2 won't help as they don't support the phone.
Hi, I couldn't receive MMS on O2, but have manually configured it, and it's now working fine.
The configuration screen is found on the Sense UI here:
Messages, All messages, Menu, Settings, Options, MMS Server (right softkey)
Hope that helps.
try this, it worked for me.
Scroll to settings>menu>all settings>connections>connection setup.
Now choose your Country and Operator. Let it do its bit and re-boot.
Should be all working now.

Works for me as well, but only if you are on contract, the PAYG settings are different.

Hi not sure if you solved this but for other peoples reference here is how you can check your settings.
Run the connection setup which will create an MMS connection that you can check in
all settings /connections/connections/advanced tab/select networks> there should be a connection called *.* MMS Settings > click edit to make sure the settings are as they should be.
* make sure when you exit the network management screen that your default internet connection is selected or your internet will not work.
exit from here and then go to messaging tab on the home screen.
choose all messages/menu/settings/options.
in this screen choose menu/MMS server and then configure or check your settings.
In my case the connection wizard had a space in the server name and the wrong port selected
Hope this helps
From connection setup makesure you select to update connection setup database. It found a new one when i did it.

hence the need for manual adjusting
regards lakeman
Right,
Firstly I hope that people have solved their issues with this but if not here's how i got mine to work.
It seems that there are two steps to gettign MMS to work properly.
Step 1: Configure the MMS Settings:
There might be other ways of doing this but this is how i did it and it worked.
Start > HTC Messages > Menu > Settings > Options > Menu > MMS Server
Select O2 UK Or whatever if you're doing this for another network.
The O2 settings should be as follows:
Contract & PAYG are the same here.
Server name: O2UK
IP Address: 193.113.200.195
Port Number: 8080
Server Address: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
Connect Via: My Work Network *
This is actually the important bit and the throwback to theold days of windows mobile. MMS' are not received over you're standard data connection so you have to specify different settings so HTC / O2 are using the Work Settings to get around this.
Send Limit: 300KB
WAP Version: WAP 2.0
Step 2: Configure the connection settings for 'My Work Network'
Start > Settings > Menu > All Settings > Connections > Connections
Select 'Manage existing connections' under My Work Network.
Select what ever option is there and selected and hit the edit button.
Enter a name for the connection: anythingyouwant
Select a modem: CellularLine (GPRS)
hit next.
Now here the settings do start to differ for contract and PAYG:
Contract: Access Point Name: wap.o2.co.uk
PAYG: Access Point Name: payandgo.o2.co.uk
hit next.
Contract: Username: o2wap
Contract: Password: password
Contract: Domain: (Leave Blank)
PAYG: Username: payandgo
PAYG: Password: password
PAYG: Domain: (Leave Blank)
hit finish.
Hopefully you should now be enjoying MMS on you're Leo
Missing DLL
Phoenix,
Looks good except that having gone back to the winmobile sms client as I need access to my subfolders, it seem that the dll that is "removed" as part of that process is needed to make MMS work on the HD2. Have been experimenting and if one goes back to the HTC client (this recreates the missing dll) then MMS messaging works fine.
Although MMS is not a big deal to me it irks me that I can't get it to work in these circumstances. Have chased Zenyee, who developed this tweak in the first place, on how he is getting on with solving the MMS issue but no response to date.
So anyone in the same boat who has managed to crack MMS sending, please PM me.
Cheers
WB
Ive not cracked it as such but found something interesting....I was fed up that my device couldnt do mms whilst using leo energy rom, tried doing manual settings etc, ended up flashing original leo uk o2 rom....
I have crossed reference all the settings and the only thing i find different is that on the original o2 rom under "my work network" gprs is selected where as on cooked rom gprs, 3g is the option.
could this simple thing be causing issues??
HELP
i'm also having trouble with o2 mms settings the help on this page did not help. i cannot send or receive mms. i purchased the handset from ebay, it was locked to tmobile. i've had it unlocked and all other functions (web, mail) work fine. please help. it's driving me nuts.

Firstly, what I suggest is go to setting> WIRELESS&NETWORKS > MOBILE NETWORKS > then, check whether the DATA ENABLED already tick or not(if not, just tick it)...
Second,in case the first step not working even after you ticked it...then now you go back to the MOBILE NETWORKS again...choose ACCESS POINT NAMES...and then make sure you choose the correct access point(which must be the same name with the one when you using WINMO)...
Hope these help...Cheers...

Ok, thanks, but what is the connection to WiFi, and why it makes the problems?
Any Idea?

does it works?erm..basically sometimes the 3G data is disabled in default setting or sometimes it'll just choose an access point randomly...so,I think this is why these situations occur...
Cheers,you are welcome...haha,learning when teaching...
when i tick on "mobile network", i get "Use phone for data connection when WiFi is Unavailable" .
I do i change it to operate 3G when i want?

Yea..thats correct, when you are not connecting to WIFI, you can browse the internet using 3G...Furthermore you can long press your home&add widget, then choose power control...put it on any screen you want...then trough that widget you can control your 3G and WIFI anytime...you can on/off the 3G when you want use or save battery...
Android is roaming while it should not.....
Maybe it helps.... I discovered that when I'm running with Android the 3G isn't working because the phones "thinks" that it is roaming( I checked the box, no connection when roaming). In reallity it isn't roaming and I also do not understand why this it is happening. In any case when I unchecked the box immidiatly after the 3G connection was on. Actually I was now looking on the xda if somebody had the same experience.
Addition:
The WiFi is OFF even Unavailable network, and i get this problem, and can not use 3G, at the same reason that i have mentioned before.
There is a code that i have to change?
I will try the roaming method...
More information
I have see, that i do not see APN list in Darkfroyo, and i believe thats why i can not connect to 3G.
So, how can i fix that?

OK, but how can i add that information?
When i go to APN page, i get black page and can not add ANY information.
Am i missing something ?
Thanks!
EDIT:
I have managed to fix it!
1.I have run a ROM that the 3G works.
2. I have copied the right information from APN, from the working one, menu details.
3. I have run the desired ROM, Darkstone for example.
4. I have added NEW APN information, at APN page with the information i have got.
5. WALLA! now 3G is working!
Thanks you all!!
I also change my Froyo ROM to shubCRAFT 1.5★CM6 Final and APNs still is empty. Can you tell me please wich ROM you installed.
I've not had that specific 3G problem. When I start up Android, there is a "New SIM Insterted" message which when I launch it comes up with an Error Report and have to Force Close the program. After doing that I find 3G works fine.
Also I am unable to go to Wireless & Networks and choose Access Point Names as said Error Message/Force Close appears. But doesn't seem to cause any problems generally. As for Wi-Fi, I have the opposite, if Roaming is enabled then the Wi-Fi will refuse to turn on

Yes, at the APN, you will see black screen, without ANY configuration.
So, select the menu "windows button" and press "new APN" then' it will give you a place to insert information that you have copied from a working one...
Hope it helps...
