DHD vs Nexus S vs Xperia Arc - Desire HD General

Which you guys think is better?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App

Xperia Arc is off the menu straight away because it is a Sony Ericsson phone. I had an X10 once and that was a bad enough experience to keep me away forever.
Nexus S isn't bad but I don't need NFC, you can't run Sense on it, and development section in general seems a little bland. The lack of a micro sd slot is also annoying. In its defence it has great (for a smart phone) battery life, 16 gb of rom (much faster than an sd card, and front facing camera (not that need one). It has less ram than desire hd and a lower resolution camera.
Desire HD wins. It has the most ram, highest resolution camera, full metal body, and the killer - Sense. Also Leedroid has this phone. Victory by KO.

Having said that Desire HD FTW .

You should try them all in a shop because nobody knows what kind of smartphone you want to have.
I ony can say that I'm very happy with my HTC Desire HD.

imo, samsung are going to run the smartphone market for the foreseeable future, just because of the innovation of the company, htc's devices are same old same old, where as samsung has just developed a brand new display called samoled plus, a new type of superfast ddr2 ram, a brand new chipset to replace the hummingbird, ive also seen reports there working on a 250gb nand chip looks like it's samsung that have been quietly brilliant, while HTC was acting cocky lol

Hardware wise it rocks. Unfortunately Motorola Blur is terrible. If it don't get some aosp custom rom living it's dead in the water as far as I'm concerned.

imo, it's not a option... first of all, it's a Motorola (and it says too much), and after all: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/update-on-the-atrix-root-signed-motorola/

Does DHD has gingerbread? And how easy is it to put rom on DHD? Cause once I tried to put rom on my wife's desire. I messed the motherboard. Luckily telus repair for me put new motherboard. I have x10 I never bricked it. *knock on wood* lol
Sent from my X10i using XDA App

if you can read, and fallow simple instructions, like: press and hold button or type that... it's pretty hard to brick this devices, but of course, there is always a chance...
official gingerbread with sense is coming in q2, in anycase you can flash it with cm7, i used it for a while, but i really missed sense... =o)

If u love sense, of course buy a htc device....but I 'd prefer incredible S, since it's a desireHD with a plastic cover (metal it's fragile, can peel and it's a mess at the first fall) and it's got a slcd screen.
I own a dhd and I want to sell it as soon as possible in order to buy an amoled nexusS.
main problem of dhd is how it sux on basic functions. I use h3g as provider, that works on umts, and my dhd is 50% on roaming on gsm tim, so I can't use internet connection...whereas my stupid dummy 80€ huawei ideos sports a strong antenna and never goes on roaming.
another problem for me is the battery. sense roms have a kernel that doesnt drain battery, but I love cyanogen roms...and they drain battery.
wot about loudspeaker and screen? loudspeaker is completely crap, try to use navigator while driving a car with open windows...
lcd is washed out comparing to slcd and amoled....
I know that these basic functions are improved on nexusS...only thing I 'll miss, it's notification led, but I know it's an amoled and it's possible to display such a notification pixel on the black screen while saving battery.
other brand, is better don't think about them...they all have strong hardware with very bad user experience. and I think it's better don't run on a dual core for a while

my two penny'th worth..
1. SE - dont make me laugh sony hate consumers, they want to tell you what you can do with your device and dont even think about rooting it only one thing I can say to this option "46 DC EA D3 17 FE 45 D8 09 23 EB 97 E4 95 64 10 D4 CD B2 C2"
2. Nexus S - feels like a cheap plastic toy, no SD slot, that'll make sticking a custom rom on interesting, the rest of the specs make it sound like a downgrade from the SGS
3. DHD - a no brainer to my mind, there are no hardware issues with my device speaker etc are fine it's by and away the best phone i've ever had and i cant see a device on the immeadiate horizon that could get it out of my hands

Thanks Bro for changing my mind was gonna wait for atrix. Does DHD custom rom do copy and paste?

Should I buy an X10

I have fallen in love with the X10 since it was leaked last year. Its the only phone I think the ui is sexy. I have a mytouch slide I like it but wouldn't mind an X10 for a while. I have dug thru the forums for this phone and I see it has some issues and I don't see any roms for it yet. Since I'm on tmo usa I will have to wait for a unlocked phone to come about. My questions are:
how is the performance?
Are there really that many issues or are a few select people having problems?
And are there any devs on working on this phone?
I know the update to 2.1 is taking awhile cause the ui and I don't expect sony to give it froyo but maybe some dev will. Thanks guys.
Sent from my MR1 V4 Remix 3G using XDA App
yes there are issues with X10 now but you can wait until update, at present it has 1.6 android which is out of date buit soon sony Xperia X10 is getting 2.1
you should wait until then and if you can not wait then its better to go for motorola droid x or desire they both are good phones with good screens, multitouch ( for games etc ) and good call volumes latest android

Frankly speaking X10 is not as good as it was 2 months back........back then there were no option, now you have better alternatives.....starting with Galaxy s,Droid 2 ,Droid X and whole lot lot of bunch
P.S If you really want to stand out from the crowd get a White X10
Every phone with its weakness, X10 with low call volume(ok for me),1.6 OS, no MT(not needed for me),but the others have their issue too just like the Samsung Galaxy with the GPS signal(losing it).
So if you can live with the X10's so called ''problems'' it is a great device,if not then buy something else.
Can't say the other phone doesn't have issue either.
everything have feature that other phone doesn't. I personally don't see xperia 10 is behind on other phones because it is using a personalized android 1.6 vs 2.2 which have nothing desirable for me.
the 3 major feature you will miss are
720 recording - which i am sure you can live without it.
16 million colour - once again, my eyes can't tell the differences. that well to even brother.
flash - xperia 10 can watch flash enable media ( can watch flash movie @ tudou.com) but can't use them (as menu or web content) with skyfire.
i have no idea why that akshay insist it have low call volumne, i think his phone is busted or he got 1 of those millionth faulty one. I personally have no problem calling out or hearing people talks on my phone unless i am in an heavy noisy area that i can't even hear someone shout @ 1M away.
There are app that can hack your speaker i think if you rooted on the market.
Mind you, if you compare the latest phone you will only found them having
1. 2.1 or 2.2 soon
2. a front camera for video conference, (i live in canada, no one use smart phone with front camera here)
3. larger screen by 0.1 inch
4. 16 million color but worser camera.
5. If you didn't know 90% of those phone can't use under bright sun, but guess what, Xperia 10 CAN.
6. they are all "black", but mine is WHITE and have great design http://seinsider.com/?p=2525 If i will find a way to get one of those later and show off.
7. I like sony, i like having a sony brivia x2, sony ps3, a sony BR, a sony dog, and ...no i don't like sony laptops.
If you are like me that like the design and the white X10 when I first saw the pics of it last November, then I say, go for it. When it came out of the market last March, I said to myself, I'll wait for it to get the latest Android 2.1 and buy it. Big Mistake! I was not satisfied with the other phone that I bought, so after three months of using that phone, I got bored with it, and finally bought X10. Now, I'm using the X10 only, and only once in a while, use the other one. I can never be happier...
Thanks for all the replies. Glad to see people are happy with the phone. 1.6 is not a deal breaker for me. And yes if I buy one definitely the white one has my eye. I can careless for froyo cause I had froyo on my mytouch slide. Nothing I won't miss. I think I will head to a at&t store and play with one. Thanks for the link awesome shells. Anymore thoughts are welcomed.

I have the White X10i, its been great for me so far! The battery life is really good, the camera is awesome and the interface is a pleasure to use!
In regards to the 2.1 update that we are all longing after so much, the only thing I would really embrace with open arms is the ability to record video in 720p!.
just fyi in case you missed it, the X10i has 3G banding for T-Mobile, and the X10a has the banding for AT&T. Also I thought AT&T is only selling the black version? So from what I understand you want, you should buy an unlocked white X10i off the net.
X10 is great, best looking phone on the market and best camera in an Android phone. Screen resolution is awesome, videos etc are not as vibrant as AMOLED or Super AMOLED screen sure, but text is sharper and being usable in sunlight is a huge plus. For Canadians I think it's the best overall Android option still, you guys have a lot more choices down south and I can't say the same. Froyo is huge regardless of your experience, SE has done a lot to make 1.6 good, but it's shoddy customization isn't enough at this point in the game compared to all the 2.2 offerings on the market now.
If I were you I would wait a few more weeks until you know what that big HSPA+ device for T-Mo is before making any big purchases

I love mine -it's the dogs cogs.. There's 1Gb of Memory but it's use is restricted by Android 1.6.. so at the moment it's using... Download Cache - 111Mb; Data - 465Mb; RAM - 268Mb. (reading directly from Android System Info app)
Youre better off buying an unlock iphone or waits for the sony ericsson psp2 because the x10 is rather slow and no brand name app.

With gadgetry it's unpossible to form an opinion just by reading specs and reviews. When you look at the specs of the X10 it's a good phone, when you look at the software versions it's a poor phone. But the most important part, the feel, you'll have to find out yourself.
When I replaced my iPhone with my X10 I was a "smart shopper" and tried out many different devices, usually I just grab what looks cool. My favourites were the X10, Touch HD2 (I know, but I liked the hardware) and the Desire. The Touch HD2 fell out of the running pretty quickly since it runs WinMo and I wanted Android.
The Desire is a really nice phone, it's got good hardware and it runs Android but it had a few problems. First off the screen is pretty poor. The colours are great but it's way too fuzzy for my taste. The general solidity, or feel, was also pretty bad. It's feels too plastic and cheap for my taste.
The X10 felt slightly sluggish and bogged down, but since it's software I figured I could fix that pretty easily which I did. The Android version worried me at first but some investigation turned up that the differences between this custom 1.6 and the HTC version of 2.0 were pretty minimal. In the end I went for the X10 because it has a way better screen, it has a more solid feel to it and a pretty nice camera.
This was a few months ago but no new phones have really caught my eye, most look too non-descript or iPhone-like for my taste.
There's my reasoning, hope it helps.

Legendary Wins

Yo
Seeing as so much of this forum is devoted to "Help with this problem", I figured I'd get a thread going about what we like about our phones
Mine: Today, at breakfast with friends, a mate and myself were both trying to load a graphics heavy webpage on our phones. We're on the same network and he has an iPhone 4. The Legend loaded the content 40 seconds faster.
Wiiin
Speaking to a friend who gets frustrated with having no flash on his iphone 3GS and now his iphone4, I loaded up another forum I use which has a flash banner at the top and he was jealous :smug smiley required:
A lady friend told me the Legend is the sexiest phone she ever saw and I have good taste for buying it. Win? Hell yeah.
I really like this phone because it has fairly decent battery life, is built solid, looks very classy, fits well in the board room or the VIP room and as a Gmail user it does exactly what I need it to do with regard to managing my digital life.
Admittedly, the battery life will probably not be quite as good when I am roaming in a country with 3G service, but that is only when I'm on holiday, so I'm not terribly worried about it.
Double post.
everybody who saw my phone told me that my HTC Legend looks and feels awesome and premium. win? yeah..
Best built phone on the market. Looks awesome, and it has Android! What could be better?

Why would you buy another Android phone?

I, even if I could afford would not buy another Android phone because the X8 got everything I want in a smartphone.
It doesn't have that much ram, or the best camera, or a big screen, or a fast processor,or native flash but other than that what doesn't our x8 have?

Hardware keyboard....
Honestly, my main phone, when I go out, is a Motorola Flipout.
Just got the x8 for free due to a drawer contract.
But at home... For testing new apps, playing with ROMS, searching the full market (the Flipout has some problems there), downloading apps, as my new, very power saving linux home server. And I have a nice TV app installed (german dailymetv, they download content over Wifi and I can watch later) or for surfing it's nice, because the display is bigger.
As soon it comes to serious messaging which involves a lot of typing I really miss my hardware keyboard...
Wazzup
The x8 is a very nice and decent phone, there r some that destroy it saying that it is useless and blablabla, blablabla, but hey, if everyone uses the same cellphone, the world would be a very terrible place
Personnally I like the X8 but I'd like to have a bigger screen and more RAM :/
What you (OP) said it's true, it's a good phone with all the modifications we've made but I may sell my grandpa's iPhone 4 for a Nexus (S or Prime) if he'll ever give it to me [gosh, Apple is SO overrated].
I can afford till 200 Euros now.
If I would buy a new phone, it would be the Optimus Speed, because:
It has Dual-Core
It has a 4-inch-screen
It has an 8MP camera
It can record HD-Videos
It looks better (black color, thin,..)
It has an own forum @xda and official CM7
It´s the cheapest Dual-Core-Phone right now (around 340€ withoout SIM-lock)
But atm, I neither have the money nor want a new phone, because I need a new computer for playing Black Ops, MW3 (when it´s out), maybe Crysis 2 etc.
But I think, until I have the money for a phone and have already bought a PC, Quad-Core phones or at least Dual-Core phones with 2.0 GHz.
And they will maybe all have 3D and HD Display resolution and so on, so I don´t think that I´ll ever buy this phone.
But maybe I´ll get a new phone next summer along with a new contract...
I would buy an xperia Ray, because, its faster, better screen, better camera, and it hase the sony xperia style.
But right now, im loving my xperia x8.
ahemmm.... i buyed another X8, because i want to use it as main phone (my first one) and i want to play with it (change ROM, make tests, etc, with the second one)
i love x8 but buy neo v
I would buy any of the faster Android phones because i LOVE android. It never gets boring, with aaaalll the new apps and roms and everything you can add
I might buy the MIUI phone when its out. But not until android supports gpu accelerated UI

I have a trick for the RAM, for more RAM take a permanent marker, open the cellphone and take the battery off, and write in there where it says the model write More RAM, works for me, now I have more RAM xD.
For a bigger screen, just take 2 or more mirrors and put them in the right angle and you will see how your screen is bigger
xD I don't want to offend you, I'm just bored, but BTW, a cellphone with a mega big screen is a problem sometimes, I dont like to be talking with a machine that i put in my ear and it can reach my chin like nothing

iphones have a lot to answer for,i had this discussion with someone the other day though who has iphone 4..
the end of the arguement was
iphones for people who want an easy phone, everythings ready to go out of the box..easy to use and dont really need to do much(so sheep if we are getting down to it)
android is for geeks.Android phones are pretty simple as well but then taken up a level to development of the o/s
ios isnt open source, bit like a heavily guarded fortress..just in case someone actually does something to it..that makes people want to stop buying every version they release whilst the actualy operating system hardly changes... lol
xda is a pure reflection of...a geek loving site.
Don't forget that the iPhone is also for games..
But imo the smart thing to do is to get yourself an iPad gaming purposes, and pack an Android for everything else
Well I'm a geek and a tech junkie, and no other mobile OS has been able to deliver the flexibility nor the customization like Android..

I can do so much with it, my girlfriend is jealous on my phone
What I'll be looking for when i decide to replace my dhd are the following:
-Improved battery life
-Quad core
-SAMOLED at least 4"
-Min. 16GB internal memory with memory card slot
-Physical qwerty keyboard (i just prefer a slide-out keyboard)
-Front-facing cam
I know I'm being too demanding--and maybe too optimistic--but imo the specs above can easily be packed into the next HTC..

Well, i love galaxy note, but at the same time, i hate the plastic feels. i love iphone4, but the OS sux..
Maybe a 5" screen with aluminium unibody design that's all it takes. Single core or multi core, i don't care, as long as it's snappy.
Still loving my DHD though.
The Dhd isn't old at all..I wouldn't even class the desire old be honest...only classed ad old because New phones released all the time so its phone life in commercial not actual phone life!

Pictures of a new HTC device running Ice Cream Sandwich and Sense 4.0 were leaked. The device is heading for Verizon and it will have LTE capabilities!
Check out the source for pics of the new device running sense 4.0.

This might be a true successor to the original Droid Incredible. Some sites are saying AMOLED, so that would be nice. I'm not a fan of SLCD. Now, if only they can do something about battery life. That's the reason I didn't go to Rezound (oh, and the fact that the phone was way too thick in the first place).
I'm really torn. I like HTC Sense (Yeah, I guess I'm in the minority) but the battery on the Razr Maxx makes me want to overlook that I am not a fan of Moto's UI as much and their screen issues. If by some miracle HTC has addressed battery size/life, I think this will be my next phone.
Looks nice and all, but I'm pretty reluctant to purchase another snapdragon phone. Sense can be cool but future-proofing is cooler. As we all know from our Adreno 200 woes, snapdragon products are not future-proof and qualcomm has made no effort to collaborate with the community to bring us updated video drivers or open source userspace drivers. I'm voting with my wallet on this one.

I want the Incredible 3 to be the same size as the original. I don't want/need a ginourmous screen. I just want a perfect size device, aka the original, with updated guts. Thanks.
I want a big phone bigger than iPad lol (that's a little to big but u get my point )

Here's what this phone's gotta have for me to get one: a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset, an HD screen that is NOT pentile, and a battery that approaches 2000 mAh.
I would also like to be able to turn Sense off and go plain vanilla, or I'd like to use a launcher of my choice.
I've been eligible for an upgrade since January 4th. It's hard holding off until MWC and CTIA... If I don't see anything I like, it will be an LG Spectrum for me.

I just don't know anymore...by the time I upgrade Jellybean will be in full force so..yeah
I only did a 1 year (remember those) upgrade when I got my Incredible.. and I got it day 1...
There has been nothing yet to want me to change to a new phone...
What I want: CDMA / GSM / LTE on 1 chip (which should be in phones by end of year - will definitely help battery life if everything was on one)... Super Amoled.... 4 inch Screen (slightly bigger than the Incredible.. but not huge like the others. I have big hands.. really big.. but its a phone.. not a tablet I want)... GREAT camera... And long battery life (hopefully fixed with my first wish)...
I'm not an Android fanboy.. or an iOS fanboy.. I just want a phone to match what I want.
Hmmm... I'll probably miss my optical track "ball". I rarely use it but comes in handy for editing.

because they were loosing money.... lol
I thought I heard VZW is going to offer family data plans. Data limited plans I'm sure.

I couldn't agree with you more. That's one of the main reasons that I have upgraded my device (besides the fact I love my Dinc), if I can barely fit it in my pocket, that is a problem.
Looks good but from the pics I saw of the sgs3 I might get a Samsung next. 12mp cam, tegra 3, and ics sound great
I agree

I just want to see Verizon's line of phones for this summer so I can make an informed decision. Rumors are great but the one thing not mentioned is becoming more important, battery capacity.
Looks huge. Why have all the companies gotten caught up in a screen size pissing contest? We need another RAZR that is thin AND small. Not like the current one, which is closer to a machete than a razor.
