was the update worth the trouble of going all the way back to 1.6 and flashing to 340?
I'm interested in hearing a review by anyone that has successfully performed this...

yes rename it to update.zip and home+power and alt+s
A related question: it may be too early but has anyone tried going from the OTA 1.5 to RC29? Any reason why that wouldn't work?

People have been upgrading and downgrading since the birth of time , there are no issues when it comes to this, im assuming by RC29 your wanting to unroot??

That's really what I'm getting at, like say a person gets the OTA 1.5 and wants to root it. They would have the stock SPL. I don't think the stock SPL is a problem as I was running the lucid JF1.42 for a while and just loaded the hard SPL recently before I upgraded to the JF1.5 ADP. Just wondering if new customers and/or unrooted 1.5's will still be able to root their phones by flashing to RC29.
I know some people have unrooted their phones and loaded the OTA 1.5 just to check it out. No one has said if they were able to revert it back to a rooted build yet.

I'm thinking ahead when most owners will have the OTA 1.5, wondering if they'll still be able to root by flashing to RC29.

I have to agree. Shouldn't be a problem to upgrade or downgrade no matter what build its on.

The only thing I can think of is the radio. I know it was causing some problems with one of the SPL's, and reflashing to RC29 has nothing to do with that. But I also read that reverting back to the old radio had caused problems, and I don't know if RC29 will boot with the new radio. This is assuming RC29 doesn't have a radio update of its own, I honestly don't know.
Yes you can. I had the RC33 and updated to the CRB17 the UK1.5 cupcake.
I lost myfaves and amazon. I gained a program called "web n walk"(T-Mobile's UK mobile store). Well, after that I received the 1.5 OTA CRB43 update I didn't get myfaves back or amazon. So...I downgraded to the RC29 then to a file called RC29 to RC33 update, finally to the US 1.5 CRB43. Now everything is the way it should be. No problem with the downgrade to RC29. From what I understand if you can get to RC29, everything from there is as it was.
Here's the link. It's about half way down the page in blue.

If you have UK 1.5 and want to update to US 1.5,
you can simply install US 1.5.
No inbetween steps required!

I was able to revert back. I my phone was rooted and before jf made the us 1.5 rom I went back to original spl and rc29 just to install the US Tmo OTA update. And earlier this morning I just went back to rc29 to reroot so I could update to jf's 1.51us.
I didn't go straight from rc29, I at least flashed JF's rc33 before going to JF's 1.51-US.

Yes you are correct... but you get the US cupcake with the UK web n walk and no amazon. The other needs to be done to change it all back.

Looking for T-Mobile offical 1.6 update for mytouch

Hello I just received a un-rooted mytouch but it is stuck on 1.5 even though the previous user has been using it on the network for the past few months. Is there somewhere I can download the latest official 1.6 update to flash onto this device?
just one click root it and flash a donut rom. It will only take like 15 minutes, and with everything else that you will be able to do with it, it would definitely be worth it.
Manually install 1.6 update on mytouch:

I tried these instructions but get an error when attempting to flash. Also the ROM he has linked is only 20mb?
is that link the REAL official t-Mobile Donut 1.6 update?? I dont understand why there are not numerous links and sources to the update, I need the real update cause i am test driving the phone, I wanna root it and try it thaqt way, but eventually in a few days im gonna have to give it back to my buddy, he already was buggin about my rooting it, i mean i guess if decide to buy it thats one thing, but i would like to bring it back to Official 1.6 status if not
Its weird usually when anykind of firmware or operating system is releaseed everyone has tons of dwnload links and various sources to get it, but i mean its weird i can only find that one link thats posted above?? I see there is a stock build here in XDA, but says a few tweaks but generally stock, im curious if I need to have the phone rooted to even install that ROM?? this ROM here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=549755
go to the t-mobile forums there is a guide for this, here is a link DIRECTLY TO THE GUIDE FOR MANUALLY UPDATING TO 1.6

Wouldn't it be safe to flash any rom, if you have the recovery on an already rooted phone? That way you can just restore from a nandroid or BART backup if it doesn't work?

google sign in error fixed. No gmail picture fix. Thats bout it.
Is it worth trying? I read it could be faster, any truth to it?
If you have 1.5 dont install it, install my rom or wait til someone better than I comes up with a rom based on 2.1 ota.
I have been using the leak since the first day it came out.
Has anyone tried to downgrade from this leak to 1.5?

Go from Cyanogen 5 to stock Froyo FRF85B

Hello, a friend of mine bought his Nexus 1 recently and installed cyanogen a few weeks back, but he wants to go back to stock. After searching, I cannot find any instructions on this. Could someone give me steps so he could revert back?

Does he want to unroot or does he just want to get the latest Froyo?
He just wants Froyo.
Flash the R20 Modaco FroYo rom, wipe, and you're back in business (assuming the phone is on the FroYo radio already).

1.6 build 7921

Just picked up the dell streak from Rogers ... and going to upgrade to dj steve's build 1.3. Before I even attempt to do this I am trying to find info. on how to backup the stock recovery.
I can not find any information on how to backup the stock recovery... I have not seen the stock recovery for download with this build 1.6 build 7921 either.
I would like to do this just incase I have to put the phone back to stock to return the device... so if some one can point me in the right direction that would be great.
I thought fastboot would help me in my quest to backup the stock recovery but nothing that I can see would do such a thing.
The other thing is I have not seen 1.6 build 7921 stock rom either so I would assume that I need to install clockwork recovery and backup my rom using nandroid?
I believe these are the only 2 things I need if something messes up and I need to return the phone back to stock?
Thanks,
chunkd
Anyone?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
BUMP ~ in the same boat here, want to be able to downgrade back to 1.6 and upgrade with the ota update when it becomes available. Anyone?
same boat..
i cant get the build 7921 to the O2 build either
I am on rogers. no problems doing it. it took a while for me to figure it out. basically you have to go to o2 1.6 then up to 2.1.. then 2.2.
I have also successfully downgraded back to 1.6 (when i was on 2.1). But there is no reason to ever want to run an official dell build when steve's builds are so much better.

how did you get onto O2 1.6? any guide that will work from 7921? thanks
I followed one of the guides on here. you should find a 1.6 US to 1.6 O2 guide somewhere. The thing that screwed me up was getting the right drivers for windows. that was a biggie. took me a few hours of reading to finally figure it out.
http://android.modaco.com/content/d...-dell-streak-android-1-6-with-online-kitchen/
this might help. i cooked my own custom 1.6 rom before upgrading to 2.1. I had a problem with the flashing buttons because i had my baseband mixed up. so downgrading back to 1.6 with a custom firmware fixed it. then i updated to 2.1.
then i flashed this:
http://android.modaco.com/content/d...r-the-dell-streak-android-2-1-online-kitchen/
read through the thread. for both flashes you require a specific recovery utility. and the corresponding baseband. And some knowledge of fastboot and installing a custom recovery menu.
There is a bit of a learning curve but once you set it up flashing new updates is a 5 minute procedure.
I wish i can sort out all of the exact files used but i downloaded so many different ones trying to get my streak going and i am now unsure of the exact files used. It just took me a lot of trial and error. Also got stuck in the boot loop a few times...
there is lots of threads on here. i suggest you do lots of reading. it took me a good solid 12 hours of playing around to finally get it going. mind you i am completely new to android phones and flashing... Believe me i was frustrated quite a few times thinking i bricked my phone. But be patient and do lots of reading.
sorry i can't help anymore then that.
