Hello,
First of all, I'd like to thank Kalimucho a lot for his great work
If you stop by Toulouse, FR, let me know, and let's have a beer
I've got a problem with GPS on that Rom...
I can't get a signal. GPS is activated, but does not seem to catch a satellite...
I've already flash to Froyo roms, and have activated GPS on it (it works).
But that does nothing on ginger...
I can't flash a 1.6 rom, because of Clockworkmod recovery 3.0.0.5... (and some error about edify script...)
So, how can I solve that problem? because everyone seems to have GPS working...
Thanks in advance.
And thanks again Kalim
share my experience
1. download Kalim's froyo to your sd card
2. go to recovery mode , backup the whole system
3. wipe all the user data, cache twice (ensure all deleted)
4. choose kailm's froyo and gapps to update your system , reboot it
5. enable GPS in kailm's froyo (test the GPS now), if ok, not disable it, reboot to recocvery mode.
6. wipe all the user data, cache twice (ensure all deleted)
7.choose kailm's gingerbread and gapps to update your system, reboot it.
8. test the GPS now.
9. if everything ok. reboot it to recovery mode and then choose advance restore to restore the "user data" (don't restore cache, boot and system).
This is working for me. Sorry for my English.
As eim2148 says, GPS must be activated when you flash to the Gingerbread ROM.
Yes, you're right, but I thought I had done that when flashing back to froyo and then ginger again...
I'll follow eim21048's instructions, and I hope it works.
eim21048, I followed every exact step of your instructions, and it seems to work.
I think I made a mistake before.
Thanks a lot
Thank you eim21048 for the tutorial.
It worked fine for me.

I have tried the official leaked rom from sprint and the ViperRom for my samsung epic.
Under both roms the GPS will not lock on a position. I use Cardio Trainer to run every night and without the GPS it will not map my trail.
Is there a software fix for this -- or is it a common thing that GPS doesn't work with the 2.2 ROM's?
Thanks

This should be in General.
In order for GPS to work, you need to flash the DK17 radio before you wipe and flash the ROM. Do not restore date from your previous ROM.

Do you mean flash the modem? or radio? I guess I wouldn't know where to download the DK17 radio (not on the wiki).

Yes, the Modem.
Okay -- thanks.
Here's what I did (using instructions from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845705 ):
#1) download the ViperMod .zip file onto my SD card
#2) I installed the DK17 Modem and DK17 PIT using odin by booting into download mode
#3) I then booted into recovery clockwork mode and wiped 3 times
#4) I installed the Vipermod from zip file.
Everything works but the GPS. I still do not receive a GPS signal. I live in Oklahoma and it's a very clear night, I shouldn't be having a problem.
Any ideas for me to try?
thanks for all the help.

Go into GPS settings and make sure the option for "Use Wireless Networks" is un-checked. Then open up Google Maps and wait for your phone to get a lock. It can take a while to get a lock the first time, but after that it should be instantaneous. It will work faster if you are outside.
Also, when you said you wiped 3 times, did you only wipe data, or did you wipe cache and dalvik also?
My phone has been trying to lock on satellites for the last hour while I've been eating dinner.
I double checked, my GPS is set only for satellites, the use of Wi-Fi is unchecked.
When I wiped data, i booted into the Rom manager by holding power, down volume, and the bottom on the bottom right of the phone.
I wiped cache and wiped data by going to the wipe data/factory reset option. I did both of them three times.
Should I try starting the process over from the beginning?

Ok, go ahead and factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, and re-flash the ROM. You shouldn't need to flash the modem again.
After flashing the ROM, let the phone sit for 10 minuets. Then re-boot and log into your google account so you can sync your contacts and download your apps. Do not try to restore data from a previous ROM.
Quick question, has GPS worked for you on other ROM's?
Yes; the GPS worked on the stock non-froyo image.
I just wiped cache 3 times and wiped dalvik cache 3 times and wiped user data 3 times.
I'm re-flashing the ROM, waiting 10 minutes, and then turning the phone back on. I'll let you know the results.

I'm sorry, what I meant was reboot the phone after you flash the ROM, then let it sit for 10 minuets after the first boot, and reboot again before you sync your contacts and download any apps.

Okay --Well here's what I did:
I cleared everything; re-flashed; turned the phone off for 10 minutes; restarted the phone and re-synced; then after trying GPS it still won't work.
Could it be the kernel I'm using? Just in case i'm downloading the D17 kernel and flashing it.
Thanks for all the advice so far.

The kernel that came with the ROM is the D17 kernel. No need to do that.
Okay, so here's what I did.
I re-wiped 3 times.
Re installed the rom
Rebooted
Waited 10 minutes
Set up my google account
Let it sync
Rebooted
Opened up google maps --- still no GPS sync.

I had the same problem tried dozens of different methods and finally got it working by following these steps...YMMV.
1) Get the stock DI18 rom and ODIN (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/500010/epic4g.recovery.stock.di18.zip)
2) Reboot into the flesh ROM (don't bother logging into google)
3) Turn on ONLY the real GPS
4) Run google maps and get a gps lock
5) Set your epic in usb debugging mode and do the oneclick root and clockworkmod (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770388)
6) reboot into download mode and ODIN the DK17 modem and WITHOUT entering anything into the PIT file
7) While it's rebooting, pull the battery, and boot into cwm
8) wipe everything 3x.
9) Install ROM. I loaded ACS DK17 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849753)
10) After the reboot, try google maps and try to get a gps lock
Again, mine worked after following these steps.
Good luck.

Wouldn't this be the infamous gps cache bug? I had the same issues with gps so I went back to 2.1
I've searched the internets and can't seem to find any help with this problem...
This is the second time I've perm-rooted my HTC Glacier (had no problems the first time), and I decided to flash a custom rom to it for the first time...
MIUI, to be exact...love it, it works great...except for the part where it completely shuts off my data if I reboot it a second time or it turns off after I ...
When the phone starts back up again, MIUI will claim to have "updated" itself, and all that jazz...but when I look up in the title bar, there's no data signal whatsoever, as if the device allowing you to accept mobile data is completely shut off...it's just gone...I still have a phone signal tho, with some bars...the only way to fix this is for me to wipe the user data using the Custom Recovery thing, flash the Froyo factory reset, then re-install the custom rom...which is a pain in the anus...
I rolled back to Froyo before rooting, then perm-rooted and flashed the custom rom following the guides provided on unlockr.com, if that helps...I'm not even sure if it's a problem that's specific to the rom I have, but can anyone help me out with this?...
Re-download the ROM and verify the md5 if it's available. Reboot into recovery and format system (mounts and storage menu in clockworkmod). Then wipe data/factory reset. Then flash the ROM. If that doesn't work let us know.

Hi!
I recently updated my ROM to the Paranoid Android 3.98, I did a full wipe, flashed the ROM, latest Gapps (with TWRP) and ever since the tablet has been become really laggy on opening apps or doing anything. I realised something was wrong straight after I booted it up by how long it was taking to connect to the WIFI etc.
Anyway, its hanging a lot on the unlock screen and sometimes I get a "Process System is not Responding" prompt. I've tried going back into recovery and clearing the caches/data again and its still hanging. Ive also tried using CWM recovery to wipe the tablet, flash the ROM/Gapps etc and its still really slow. Lastly, I just tried a factory reset from the settings menu and again, its still the same!
Any ideas on whats up with it and how to sort it out? I was thinking about unrooting it back to stock although I think the problem will still probably happen. I came from the PA 3.95 build and did a clean flash.
Cheers!
Chris
I think I have fixed it by following a post by Chasmodo on how to do a super-clean install.
1) I booted into recovery.
2) Did the three wipes (Data, Cache, Dalvik) several times over.
3) Went to Mount & Storage and formatted both system & cache*.
4) Flashed PA 3.98 & latest PA-Gapps.
5) Wiped both caches again and rebooted.
As soon as connecting WIFI, signing into Google I could tell it was running a lot faster again and now the lag on the unlock screen & opening apps seems to have stopped, also haven't had the "System Process isn't Responding since."
*Chasmodos version of the super-clean install didn't say to format the cache as well although I had tried just formatting the system and it didn't fix the issue. So I thought I'd try the same process with a cache format as well and now all issues seem to have been rectified.
Cheers
Chris
This dreadful error: "Verification Failed, Unable to restart your device. The Integrity verification has failed. You need to reset your device to factory default settings. This will erase all your data."
And a "Reset" button.
Nothing seems to have caused this. One minute phone was sitting on my desk happily, the next it rebooted itself (I assume) and this error appeared. Given that I'm not interested in losing my data I haven't pressed the factory reset button... because that's just silly.
- Phone is S5 Neo (W version). Rooted (CF-autoroot) with TWRP installed. Has been this way for months.
- Software updates are turned off
- ADB is disabled but I can access terminal using TWRP.
- Data partition is encrypted
What I've done so far:
- Backed up my Data partition using DD; but as it's encrypted I can't access the data
- Attempted terminal "twrp decrypt mypassword" using the password I used to unlock encryption at boot (result: "Failed to decrypt data")
What do I do now? Is there any way to decrypt this partition on my PC (I have linux and windows available to me) to at least rescue my data?
Thanks in advance...
I just had the same thing happen to me with the exact same model with the exact same settings as well today about a couple hours ago EXCEPT I never rooted the phone like yourself. So it isn't developer mode or anything like that. That can be ruled out. It's such f**king BS!
I heard rumors about nonsense like this years ago and the only way to supposedly fix the problem is to send the phone into samsung where they fiddle with the phone, never fix it, keep it (for whatever reason ??), and send a new phone back out IF we fall into warranty.
With all the corruption in the world and the shady happenings with government and businesses, why in the hell would any logical person send their phone back in to an OEM after it's been used? I'm a good person and come from a good family and all that, but ever since I had my information stolen from me a little over 5 years ago I really don't want to send my phone in and have my life in shambles again. No damn chance!
I'm thinking about calling in but I want all my info! I have important work related documents on here!
Only thing I am going to ask you is what software did you use to back it up (DD?)
Do these exact steps, Do not miss.
1. Reboot to recovery.
2. Do a data wipe (WIPE>FORMAT DATA) And Say "Yes"
3.Go to Reboot and Reboot back to recovery.

5.Copy in to the phone and flash it.
6.Go to Reboot and Reboot back to recovery.
7.Now Flash any rom as you wish.
8.Make Sure to Wipe Dalvik, Cache after.
Enjoy!!

Shameera_N you sound pretty smart....but why didn't you read the comments we posted and actually try and answer what we asked? WE DO NOT WANT TO WIPE OUR DATA and there is no way that wiping is part of the solution.
For this do we need a rooted phone?
This happened to me on a completely stock SM-G903F with data encryption enabled. So it has nothing to do with custom recoveries or root. It seems that the encryption method is flawed.
I don't think there is a way to get out of this one, so I wiped it. I don't have all that much stuff on the internal SD of my phone except for apps and messages. Your SD card won't get formatted, so if you save your photos there, they should be safe.
It's a pain, but this means you can't really safely use data encryption unless you regularly take backups (and even then, factory resetting a phone is no fun), even if errors like this only happen once in a blue moon.
This happend to me on my SM-G920P. I just odin flashed stock rom and back to new no data wipe or loss.
Same problem with a samsung galaxy s5 neo. Envrypted partition, Stock firmware, no root and updated.
At least i understood what caused it. I was listening to a youtube video. While the video was playing, i pressed the power button and switched off. When i switched on, i could not start android anymore

I know this isn't exactly related to the issue in this thread, but I'm not having much luck elsewhere.
My completely stock J3 (2017 model, J327A) was hit with verification failed. From what I've seen, I can fix my issue merely by flashing the original OS back into my phone. I have the files and programs I need to do this.
But I can't get the phone into download mode. I can boot it up to the warning screen. It tells me to press VolUp to enter download mode, or VolDn to cancel and restart the phone. However, neither pressing nor holding either of them does anything. I know they aren't broken, as I can boot into recovery mode as well, which requires VolUp. The buttons just don't respond when I'm at the warning screen. Is this something I can work around, or something I have to be patient with, or something I can't fix?
(Data partition is encrypted, though. Not sure if that will affect this.)
Simply long press the Shut Down Button !!!!!!!!
I simply pressed the shut down button and restarted my phone and it worked !!!!!
A light at the end of the factory reset error tunnel!
Well I had an encounter with that dreaded 'factory reset losing all data' message and I'm telling you I was furious! Anyways, after a few seconds of gasping and wondering how the heck am I gonna retrieve all of my data and stuff, the thought came to me to try some 'old school tactics' which involved removing the battery and pressing the power button to drain any residual power remaining on the phone's circuit board and then try powering up after reinserting the battery. Low and behold, the phone booted up with no issues at all. I was able to log in and access my phone as if nothing happened. It's funny how that one message can just change your whole outlook on things. I just hope that folks out there will try this and perhaps it will work for them instead of losing all their data and jumping through all sorts of hoops. Most importantly, BACK THAT THING UP!! You never know what next will come out of the woods at any given time!
Resolved error without loss of data
Hi,
I came across this problem today as soon as I woke up today, but was able to solve it.
I have a Samsung J5 prime phone and did the following steps:
Why this occurs?
The system thinks you wish to root your phone.
How to solve this?
1) when you have the verification failed screen, press "power" button + "Home" button + "Volume Down" button.
you'll be presented with a new screen which gives you 2 options-first, installing a custom OS and second, canceling it.
NOTE: I did not want to root my phone.
2) Hence, I chose the 2nd option and after that, my phone restarted with no loss of data.
Hope this helps!
if u can boot into recovery, go ahead and wipe cache/dalvik cache and reboot
this worked for me without any loss (i used twrp recovery to wipe and my device is SM_C900F /INS variant)

Came here to thank you with all my heart, this worked. I've been using TWRP for years on several phones, and I never knew that Wipe > Format Data did something different than Wipe > Advenced Wipe > Selecting Data > Swiping. I thought it served the same purpose. I don't know if the script did anything, though (because I used it before, but without formating data, and it didn't help at all).
Anyway, thank you so much!
how to remove Verification Failed or root in the TWRP file manager without losing data
OnePlus 5 128GB, running OOS 4.5.15, rooted with Magisk 15.1, tried updating to latest OTA (Oreo), ended up bricking the phone, unbricked it, restored Nougat + backups of /data and /sdcard, now everything works except WiFi (stays on "turning on..."), fingerprint sensor (only works as home button) and sdcard isn't readable (I can only list files, but when I try to read or write I get EACCES.
Tried flashing latest firmware+modem, didn't work.
Tried wiping system/data/storage and flashing Nougat again, in the "first setup" page it was able to list WiFi networks but couldn't connect (stayed on "saved, secure").
Now I reloaded all my backups so I have an almost working phone, but without internal storage I can't do much. I can't take pictures, can't download files, can't play games (obb is on internal storage).
It worked fine before the update so it can't be a hardware problem, and even, it would be surprising that both the WiFi antenna, the fingerprint sensor and the eMMC card stop working at the same time.
Also worth mentioning that I can write to internal storage without any problems from TWRP.
Note: I already tried PeterGuru's guide, Wi-Fi still doesn't work (it just doesn't turn on).
Note #2: Wi-Fi and fingerprint aren't that much of a problem right now. The main problem is inability to READ or WRITE internal storage. It basically prevents a bunch of things from working. Also I tried flashing different firmwares and modems.
Forget about any backups or such dor the minute and do a complete fresh install. Follow the steps as per the other thread you mentioned and get the phone up and running properly to start with.
As I said I already tried doing a fresh install ( = wiping data+storage+system and flashing a fresh OOS ROM, without restoring any of my backups so I get a "clean" installation), and every time, in the "first boot" stage you get when you power the phone on, at the "Wi-Fi" step it can list the networks but not connect (neither DHCP nor static IP, tried on multiple networks even ones without passwords). I tried flashing Nougat and Oreo ROMs. Neither had Wi-Fi working. Right now, I restored the Nougat one and restored my backups so I can at least send messages and GSM calls because that's what I need the most right now.
I'm slowly starting to lose any hope of getting a working phone (as before I tried updating). Is it possible at all?

Follow the tutorial on Peter's topic that you will get your wi-fi back. I had the same problem.
Download this files (Oreo Open Beta 2 and TWRP 3.2.1 Official, you can find in his topic)
With the TWRP you are currently using, wipe everything (data, system, cache, dalvik cache and internal storage) and format data
Restart your device in fastboot and flash the official TWRP 3.2.1 .Again wipe everything and format data
Restart for recovery and copy OP 2 to internal storage and then flash
Restart the system and get your wifi back
I preferred to stay on OP2, but you can return to Nougat.
Well, the best way to fix it - flash stock recovery, wipe everything, and then reboot to recovery > select adb, connect to pc and flash with command in cmd : adb sideload name_of_firmware.zip
Thats will make you happy
