I've searched the internets and can't seem to find any help with this problem...
This is the second time I've perm-rooted my HTC Glacier (had no problems the first time), and I decided to flash a custom rom to it for the first time...
MIUI, to be exact...love it, it works great...except for the part where it completely shuts off my data if I reboot it a second time or it turns off after I ...
When the phone starts back up again, MIUI will claim to have "updated" itself, and all that jazz...but when I look up in the title bar, there's no data signal whatsoever, as if the device allowing you to accept mobile data is completely shut off...it's just gone...I still have a phone signal tho, with some bars...the only way to fix this is for me to wipe the user data using the Custom Recovery thing, flash the Froyo factory reset, then re-install the custom rom...which is a pain in the anus...
I rolled back to Froyo before rooting, then perm-rooted and flashed the custom rom following the guides provided on unlockr.com, if that helps...I'm not even sure if it's a problem that's specific to the rom I have, but can anyone help me out with this?...
Re-download the ROM and verify the md5 if it's available. Reboot into recovery and format system (mounts and storage menu in clockworkmod). Then wipe data/factory reset. Then flash the ROM. If that doesn't work let us know.

To start off, I apologize for the lengthy post, but I figure if you have all the info, you could help me begin to troubleshoot. If there is a forum and I've missed it, please let me know where it is.
I have rooted using Unrevoked 3 and flashed CyanogenMod 7 a little while ago. Over the weekend, I was low on space and battery life, trying to use my Evo as a hotspot and taking pictures, etc. Well, it froze and I pulled the battery. When I went to reboot, it only showed the CyanogenMod splash screen. I didn't have internet access at the time, but really needed my phone. I had a PC36IMG.zip on my sdcard and flashed that. I was able to get back up and running, but I lost the ability to receive text messages. I could send texts and IMs, call, use data, etc. but not receive texts.
When I got internet access, I saw that I could download a Sense ROM, flash it up, update the PRL and should be okay. I flashed Fresh Sense ROM, updated, used the MSL code reader and did the ##????# thing, reset it, but still nothing.
Today, I tried re-flashing CyangogenMod and then lost the Market, Dialer and Contacts along with the ability to edit the CyanogenMod settings along with a bunch of other little things that I haven't fully explored.
I've tried unrooting it using the unrevoked forever s-on.zip, but it stuck and the system info message (and I downloaded it 3 times). I tried just flashing the PC36IMG.zip from xda and it wouldn't flash, either.
I'm at my wits end and need some direction because I know I've missed steps and made missteps. I have to have my phone for work and if I need to take it back to Sprint that's fine, I just need to unroot it! Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
Are you flashing the new ROM's right over the top?
I've never had the problems you've mentioned but anytime i've read the forums and seen others with these problems i've often seen people recommend doing a factory/data wipe from recovery. Have you tried that before flashing the new ROM.
What I would do...
1. DL CM7/Google apps and save it to the SD Card.
2. Boot to recovery
3. Factory/Data wipe
4. Flash CM7
5. flash Google Apps
6. Boot to CM7
Give it a go.
Hope this may have helped.
My apologies, as I wasn't sure where to post this.
For a long time now I've been running CM7 both the nightlies and the weeklys with no issues. Yesterday I decided I would try Neutrino ROM and installed GT 2.5. After that I noticed I had no data connection so I attempted to patch the ROM using Notorious's recommendations to no avail so I installed 2.2 and the Google addons, Sync, etc..
All was working great, however everyone said 2.5 was better in the forums so I installed it again today and attempted to patch as explained and this time was successful. I had data connection again and all was well. About an hour later I went to use my phone and it was completely black.
I attempted to power it up and nothing happened. I finally had to pull the battery and was able to get it to boot up properly, however my data connection was gone again. I ran the sysctl -p command in terminal again and rebooted it to no avail. I finally decided to go back to 2.2 which worked properly last night, however after installing from the zip and the addon zips it went to the 'Dual Core' screen and then rebooted back to the 'Dual Core' screen and keeps doing that.
I attempted to go into Recovery Mode, however when it says 'Entering Recovery Mode' it just goes black and I can't power it back on. I then have to reseat the battery before I can get it to work.
I guess at this point, is there anything I can do to get my phone back? I've seen the hard brick messages and I don't have that (yet), but I am not sure, because I apparently can't get that far. Thanks for any help you can provide.
-Dave
Sounds like a hardware problem to me. I recommend taking it to a service center ( for me ATT has one I use.) and sometimes they can boot it up. Or they can maybe give you ideas.
Just to confirm you can't boot anything right??

Thanks for the response. I was unable to boot into Android Recovery, however I hadn't tried the others. After numerous searches I found information on how to use moto-fastboot to install RomRacer's Recovery image and after doing that I was able to get into Recovery (phew!). I did a complete wipe on the phone (Dalvik, system, etc) and installed Neutrino 2.2 with Lite gapps, United States (GPS), Sync, and Gtalk (for video) and shockingly it finally booted into the rom. I think at this point I'll leave it alone after restoring my apps via Titanium Backup.
My phone is now working again. Hopefully I can keep it that way.

Here is my problem. I would like 100% stock with update. When I first got the phone I rooted with motochopper and installed SPH-L720 OUDHS Recovery. I tried ForceRom 1.0, but went back to my original Nand. Everything worked fine. I used odin to go stock and factory reset data and cache, im good to this point. When I install the sprint update I get the error "Prevention information: This device has detected an application attemping" blah blah blah. Also when i try turning on WiFi the error message pops back up. I checked and the phone is not rooted. I have tried every back to stock thread in these forums. One thing I found in settings: about phone: Status: device status: This still say's custom, even after all the attempts to go stock. Thanks for you help in advance.
How to unroot Galaxy S4, restore to stock and reset the flash counter
Or you can go to the Developer's section and find some threads about restoring. The security thing sounds like you still have Shabby's custom kernel installed. (I could be wrong.)
But the official stock MDC rom from Samsung includes the official kernel. I've restored a couple of times with the official ROM, and I was always back to the original stuff, including kernel. To completely restore, you can always also do a factory reset from the stock recovery (after you flash back the original rom). It will wipe all your data and settings, of course, so be warned.
Edit: A Local Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40947712&postcount=6
Also, I forgot to mention, but after this, you'll either just have to wait for Sprint to push the MDL update to you (since you say you want to be updated), or go find the thread (in dev section) from crawrj (I think him) about how to install it manually; but I think that will require a custom recovery, and you are trying to avoid customizations, so...
I have done exactly what the video posted said, even wiped data factory reset. The problem is after i install the OTA update I get the error message and my WiFi does not work. When I try and turn on WiFi it keeps popping up the error. Unrooted I should not get the error and WiFi should definitely work either way.
(At this point, then, this is somewhat like the blind leading the blind, so hopefully a more seasoned ROM manipulator will respond soon to help fix ya up, but until then...)
Maybe you can try crawrj's "Wipe All" script first before flashing the stock ROM? *shrug* (Link: [SCRIPT]Wipe All Zip)
I mean, if you wipe everything and then flash the stock ROM, I would be puzzled as to why something you installed before the wipe would still be lingering around to mess up your system. Again, though, I make no claims this will fix you up--it probably won't. Just throwing out ideas until someone more knowledgeable comes along to help you.

I had same problem when following the steps to return to stock after flashing custom kernel, Wifi wasn't working and was getting nagging Update and Information notifications. However I did notice after flashing Stock rom via Odin when checking 'about phone' that the Broadband Version was still MDL while Software Version did revert back to MDC. I was also under the impression that flashing the stock rom would restore stock everything, including Broadband Version back to MDC. However wasn't a big deal, I went ahead accepted the OTA update, which downloaded and went through the install process. Afterwards I went ahead and flashed ForceRom 1.0 and the 1.1 update, followed by flashing shabby's custom kernel to get Wifi working. I'm now completely happy with my setup, no nagging notifications and showing Software and Broadband Versions running MDL with shabby's custom kernel. Been running smooth for a couple of days now without any issues..
Figured it out! Had to reset the Flash counter with triangle away in order for the Device status to become official. Then i did data factory reset then flashed the stock .tar with odin. I installed the update on the phone and Viola! device official and everything is stock and working. Thanks for the help.
Good info, there, about Triangle Away. Glad you sorted it out!

Ugh, I've been flashing since the HTC Touch Elf but I'm finally stuck.
I was using Bobcat, but it wasn't keeping the 3g when the screen turned off, post v13. So I flashed Phoenix which had a troubleshoot for that - which I followed and it worked. Flash the new modem zip using Odin. Thing is, without realising I didn't allow it to finish. I booted up and 3g remained connected fine, so "obviously" it worked, though I never tried to call in or out last night.
I got a voice mail this morning and found I couldn't hear anything during a call - which took forever to connect. Figuring a slow rom, I downloaded and flashed Foxhound - still no calls. So I try the modems again, letting it sit for a few extra minutes until Odor says Pass. But it still doesn't work... It's also quite slow, as Phoenix was.
Any help?
Flash the stock rom again via odin.
Get the stock rom from sammobile

Not what I'd like to do, but I'll give it a try. Downloading now.
I've done it and it still doesn't work. And the camera also doesn't work... Although the camera thing only started after I flashed the I9505XXUFNC9_GSM_LTE_Modems. Not sure that would be the reason for it to work or not, but that's what happened.
I've tried the above modems and I9505XXUFNB9_GSM_LTE_Modems, flashing other firmware in recovery and reflashing the original firmware using Odin.
Have I completely naffed my phone?
Oh, and also the wifi doesn't work since returning it to EE's latest firmware...
Nobody have any ideas?
I had a similair problem. I assume you are still on the old bootloader?
This is what I did:
1. Full wipe in cwm
2. Advanced wipe > wipe /system (this will wipe everything, so it also wipes your sd card).
3. Flash the phoenix rom
4. Flash the modem (I use MJ5)
5. Make sure the modem actually flashed. Check it in settings > general > phone information.
That did the trick for me. Make sure you have proper backups and also a good backup of your efs.
As I didn't have Wifi I had to install Clockworkmod Recovery via Odin. So I wiped everything, but the option was to wipe Cache, wipe System and wipe data. There was also wipe data and data/ (SD card), but I didn't do that one as I don't think the problem was down to the memory card. I flashed Foxhound, as that's what was on my memory card already, put the XXUFNC9 modem on using Odin and booted up. It now connects to 3G and wifi.
However, I tried to call my house and it took about 30 seconds to connect, then when my wife picked up neither of us could hear each other. So it still doesn't work...
When going into download mode, it doesn't say anything about Knox, so yes I'm on the old bootloader still. I don't have a backup of my efs, but I have a complete backup of everything from using Titanium Backup before I tried flashing away from Bobcat.
I noticed something very strange. When I go to About and Phone Information, the phone number shown isn't my number. The number that showed up on the house phone was my correct phone number. Is this related?

I had the same problem as you had. The procedure that I descriped fixed them for me. My guess is there are some files on your sd card that somehow interfere.
I will try doing the same again, but with a different formatted memory card.
Flashed the new bootloader, problem solved.
Well this is my 1st post so first of all hey everyone
I just spent a week in Amsterdam and my phone restarted twice, different times different days and I dont remember what I was doing with it back then.
But as I landed back home I put the phone back from "Airplane Mode" and went on to toggle "Cellular Data" on.
The second I pressed the cellular data shortcut on my the phone restarted itself but this time whenever it would finish the screen would be on but fully black and sometimes it'll show battery precentage at the top but then will restart again in an infinite loop.
Sometimes it'll pop up the "Optimizing Apps" window and will go through all 24, upon finishing it will restart once more and do the same.
I tried using the bootloader and it worked (the bootloader that is) but the phone would do the same thing even after Rebooting from there or shutting down from there and then turning back on.
I contacted tech support on chat but they couldnt help past telling me to go to bootloader and reboot, said I should factory wipe when it failed.
Also tried wiping cache but to no avail.
I have no backup of my phone (wanted to do one before the flight but got lazy and I suck for not doing one sooner) since probably October and google doesnt backup my contacts properly for some unknown reason.
I already downloaded Android Studio with everything included for me to try using adb to sideload stock without wiping but its my first time and I couldnt get it to do anything at all...
I already got the official stock .gz file from the motorola website.
Anyway here are the specs to my phone:
XT1575
Everything is stock. didn't root or change recovery once in my life.
Was fully updated and had plenty of drive space (I have almost 128GB with the 64GB version + 64GB SD)
I'm really lost here so help will be very appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
-Noam
Start with a full wipe and if that doesn't work flash the stock image. Not sure what your question is though as you never really say. Once fixed I would unlock and make a backup so you don't have to deal with this again.

The thing I pretty much want to know is if theres a way to either backup the phone now with it connected to the computer while in bootloader or recovery. or a way to flash the stock rom without wiping which I read someone did with his tablet. I cant post source normally because I'm a new user so here it is but change spaces to dots: schnouki net/posts/2014/08/13/flashing-a-stock-android-image-without-wiping-user-data/
Also while in recovery I noticed 2 options under wipe: 1. userdata only. 2. userdata+(insert something I dont remember here) and I was wondering what gets deleted in both? if I delete only userdata what data will remain? something helpful?
Sure you can try flashing without wiping data but being locked I personally wouldn't risk it. No idea about backing up in your state... somewhere I remember a thread on backing up without root try searching in q&a.

Out of curiosity why shouldnt I try flashing with no wipe if ill lose the data anyway? worst case wont I just have to wipe after it fails and flash again?
And I will try thank you
Do you have any knowledge about the 2 wipe options?
Thanks in advance
Well I tried turning the phone on and it took a couple of minutes before loading to a fresh start. It apparently wiped itself on its own. Managed to restore almost everything.
Anyhow the phone takes too long to boot now. Was even stuck at boot and I had to restart it.
Anyway to fix my software? Or at least check for corruption?
