Unable to flash Voodoo Kernel - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hey guys.
as title says. i am unable to flash Voodoo's kernel on my SGS.
I tried flashing with CWM and Odin and still didn't get it to work.
I hope someone out there can assist me fix this annoying issue.
It also didn't work when flashing Darky v9.2 resurrection, after flashing with Odin and booting for the first time and installing darkyROM manager from the market and choosing my options including Voodoo Kernel and save and exit then reboot to flash it i just get normal 2e recovery.
thanks for having the time reading my post

I have the same problem and no answer. So i changed to Speedmod ^^
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=967363 -<<< 75 Klicks and no answer. Maybe Voodoo is not so popular as Speedmod

damn.....
this is really weird, and the weird part is how none even replied or commented on your thread!
this is sad.
lets hope that someone will shed some light on us

Yes 2 poor boys in the same boat
But for me it´s ok....
I´ve seen that nobody is interested that Voodoo runs at all SGS´s to the contrary to Speedmod where i get much support

Let's make that 3 poor guys on the same boat.
I have the exact same problem as susdiehl. Logs says model not detected.
All I read about it is that my MBR is corrupted. But still haven't found how to fix that.
Supercurio suggested to do this: dd if=/voodoo/partition_tables/8GB of=/dev/block/mmcblk0 bs=1 seek=446
This did something, and a conversion has started and completed, but then the phone wouldn't boot not even for hours.
Have you guys installed SpeedMod K13C? does this works well?

i have the same problem so i just use speedmode its works.

i already post several thread before, no one actually helped, so you can search my thread. i have exactly same problem. if u find the answer, please let me know. thank you

Yes im on k 13 c and everything is fine.no lagfix only the recommend tweaks.if i try to switch to ext4 with speedmod it works.
There is no reason for me to switch again to voodoo.

damn i see our boat is going to sink
regarding Hardcore's SpeedMod k13c its running great so far. I flashed it on the day it was released.
well the only thing that is annoying me badly is that i run on Darky's ROM and Darky himself optimise's his Rom for using Voodoo's kernels, and it really sucks that i can even experience what Darky recommends for his Rom's.
again lets all hope someone will show up and be able to assist us

Darky says take the Voodoo but the majority says this:

well thats true but i think Darky knows his Rom better.
you can check his first post on this page:

i might try out DamianGTO Ultimate kernel

damn i just flashed DamianGTO Ultimate kernel and its SUPER fast lol!!

damn DamianGTO just released a new version of that kernel.
Grrrrrr

I've flashed speedmod and activated the lagfix. To be honest, I think I didn't needed lagfixes at all, because I haven't seen too much difference in use.
Anyway, it is done now. I'm sure later the difference will show up

Looks like voodoo is dead... Damians kernel is awesome
Sent from anywhere

its really sad how none can comment on what we are facing..
=/

have you tried darky's resurection?
try that or a full rom with repartition than flash voodoo
report back
you could contact supercurio again perhaps he is interested in finding out what causes that
btw i like voodoo alot had major problems with data on speedmod now i am on cm7 but i am hoping supercurio will add voodoo features to cm7 (as a seperated modded kernel) too
hey post 300 ;-)

His kernel uses ext2, which other developers refuse to use due to a possiblity of damaging your phone.
In my experience, ext2 isn't any faster than ext4, not that I can notice.

omg men u save my life literaly :') i succes on install the Darky's rom xtreme edition but the menu is the same as the froyo 2.2 :/ i thought it'll be more likely to the 2.3 gingerbread ... is there a way to have that menu style?
Glad I helped as for the ginger bread im not to sure I'd have a look around

download gingerbread launcher from the market. its free
sounds lik you installed the wrong version of speedmod kernel there is one from the i9000 models and one for the captivate.. the touch button drivers are diffeent and the symptoms you describe would be what happen if you install wrong kernel.

The Noobs Guide to Root/ROM/Kernel/Theme Your Samsung Galaxy S! - By Totallydubbed

Hey everyone!
I have made video guides for 2.3.4 - Which can be found HERE
However this thread is solely for 2.2.1 & 2.3.3 videos!
So why am I posting?
Well I make videos - I love making videos, and I find personally the best way to understand something is to actually SEE IT for your own eyes - Not read it (I always hated reading)
So this thread is for those that don't like reading and like to get shown how to do things - tutorial or guides in other words.
ALL the videos are made by me
ALSO REMEMBER WHEN THE VIDEOS ARE MADE BY ME, I HAVE INCLUDED ALL THE LINKS TO WHAT I TALK ABOUT IN THE VIDEO DESCRIPTIONS!
Please do check that out!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First off videos that work on both 2.2.1 & 2.3.3!
How to root your phone - EASY guide - SuperOneClick Method:
How to Unlock your phone (SIM unlock/not needed for SIM UNLOCKED users, like myself):
How to Disable/or upgrade your Voodoo - May be done in other ROM's and other Recoveries too (CWM in this case running on Voodoo 5.5.1) (In case you had it previously on, and you wanted to flash a NEW ROM or a NEW Kernel that has Voodoo too, VERY IMPORTANT to do, to prevent any conflict with ROM's or KERNELS):
If you are having phone/battery issues - Your Modem might be to blame - How to flash a new modem:
How to apply a bootanimation.zip - thus custom boot animations (Not as easy as the CWM versions)
How to install Swype on your SGS - in case it wasn't there, or have a slimmed down version, such as 10.1 RE and need it:
How to flash kernels very easily - Dark Core 2.5 is demonstrated in this case!
If you had enough or want to send it back in for warranty and want to go back to a STOCK ROM, this video shows how to go back to a 2.2.1 default ROM which in this case is JPU based, then update it to JPY and thus further updating it via Kies to JVO:
How to fix Carrier Issues on the Samsung Galaxy S
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Videos for 2.3.3! ONLY
First the latest JVH based videos!
How to flash the SLIMMED DOWN version of 10.1 - Resurrection - (ODIN flash)
Flashes the base JVH (replacing the old JVH flash) and can be used as a base when applying 10.1
Also about re-partitioning = follow this video !
Here is Ceriko's 10.1 version! It is basically identical to Resurrection, however can be applied via CWM3 - Thus if you are currently on 10.1 and want a slimmer version of 10.1, but do not want to use ODIN - thi is by far the BEST method!
How to flash the NEW RC 10.1 from the Darky team!
How to flash - Ficeto's JVH ROM - ODIN version:
OPTIONAL - Once on 2.3.3 and on Darky's 10.1 you can flash over a hack - which allows you to have the circle battery mod + green settings - YOU MUST be on 10.1 before you do this - although the link will have the full ROM just changes made to it.

Now the even older 2.2.1 videos!
How to flash a CUSTOM ROM - ODIN method + CWM (ROM Manager) - Darky's v9.4 in the video (this method can be used for any Darky ROM or any other ROM that uses ODIN) I DO USE 9.4 IN THIS VIDEO, but you may use the SAME method for other versions, such as Darky's 9.5. THIS ONLY APPLIES TO FROYO 2.2/2.2.1. DO NOT use this same method for GINGERBREAD/2.3/2.3.3
How to apply a new theme, here I apply Crysis21's RevolutioN (MAKE SURE THE THEME IS COMPATIBLE - CHECK THE DEV'S THREAD TO BE SURE!) :
How to apply the 2.2.1 fix for Crysis21's RevolusioN theme - For Darky users!

Miscellaneous things:
If you are on 2.2.1 and on Hardcore's Speedmod kernel, the best settings by far (also grants you over 1.9k quadrant scores) can be found here (might be slightly dangerous to paly around with these settings, so do so at your OWN risk:

that would be:
reinstalling Darky's 9.5 through recovery but this time ticking speedmod as kernel instead of dark voodoo
I might switch back to 9.4 and or get speedmod back.
I'm hating dark voodoo...it uses way too much battery.

Is it possible to disable dark voodoo via clockwork recovery, then select speedmod in Darky's app and reinstalling 9.5 with no wipe. Or do you have to do a fresh install?

nop you can't do that
Although you will have to disable the lagfix (as shown in the video if it is enabled) before you install anything over it.
Do you know what version of SpeedMod comes with 9.5? Is it the latest K13D, or an older version?
Edit:
Nevermind you've already answered me, cheers.
Useful information I sent to a youtuber:
Hi there!
Good to hear the gd news (he was having boot loops)
Several things:
-If you see that you are getting quite a lot of battery drain, I suggest changing the modem.
THUS:
the JVE can be changed to another one, like mine JPG and so on:
Here is how to:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAg01h5tLV8
Links in description
+
More modems here:
(Enter it, then look under "2. i9000" then modems)
http://perka.zapto.org/
I have tried so far these modems:
-JVE
-JQ1
-JPY
-ZSJPE
-ZSJPG - currently on this one - seems to be working fine.
Modems determine several things:
GPS lock
Battery drain
Call quality and speed of surfing the internet over data network
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: you can also change the kernel for example, but stay on dark core for the time being.
I went from: Voodoo 4.5 to speedmod k13d to Voodoo 5.5.2 to dark core 1.0 to voodoo 5.5.3, back to dark core 1.0 back to k13d then to Damian's GTO
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Themes:
How to apply CWM themes can be found here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpjzUBNYmsg
IF YOU ARE PUTTING THE ONE, I HAVE CRYSIS REVOLUTION DO THIS before flashing it over (because the theme is so big)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEq_9X9yBvs
Just make sure you DO NOT install a GINGERBREAD THEME, as it won't work. youa re on 2.2.1 NOT 2.3
Conclusion:
First: Sort out your battery issues, leave the phone running for several days see how it goes, you should be getting over 10hrs on a single charge, i get over 24hrs
I got:
Voodoo kernels: 8hrs
Dark core: 12hrs
K13D: 28hrs
Damian's: 24hrs + (still testing)
So do this for 3 battery cycles:
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/guide-how-to-calibrate-your-battery.321/
then once you find that the kernel is fine with you, move to a theme.
If it isn't then change modem (as explained before)
If modem doesn't work, like you have tried the ones i suggested before + ones that relate to your region, then try a new kernel...that we can talk about later, but you can see which ones i chose.
Once the modem + kernel is fixed then move to a theme
The theme is the last thing you want to be worried about.
Once the theme is sorted you got the best phone out there, currently and can say "LOL AT YOU iFAIL4 user!"
Enjoy
Let me know how u get on.

GINGERBREAD Hacked/Compiled Kernels: Share your opinion/experiences/feedback

I was just curious: how is your experience with the various hacked kernels available like, for instance :CF-Root 3.0] JP*,JS*,JQ3,JV1/K - su+bb+2e/CWM - rfs+ext4 by Chainfire
Hacked Lagfix/Ext4 Samsung Galaxy S Gingerbread - JVB by supercurio
[KERNEL][GPL][SECURITY] FuguMod 3.0 (gingerbread JVB) voodoosndv7 by nikademus
DamianGTO Ultimate Ginger Kernel by DamianGto
SpeedMod Gingerbread by Hardcore
Talon Kernel by ytt3r / existz
Do you know another one?
Tested a couple of them, pretty much satisfied with the responsiveness and battery performance, no bugs or issues, BUT UNLIKE many hacked/compiled kernel users I am always on RFS and have all tweaks disabled....(edit: not anymore, testing some tweaks right now)
In the begining running Gingerbread the sgs was having some weird battery performances, but after removing a bunch of bloatware and freezing another bunch (using Titanium app), like "software update" for instance , battery performance is stable.
Some feedback about this and the other kernels would be nice, specially from users like me, that wont do the "file convertion thing" (always on RFS).

Well first i try Supercurio, Gingerbread-GT-I9000-stock-from-sources-kernel+hackskernel, and work so well. Then i try Supercurio again Gingerbread-GT-I9000-dev-kernel+hacks, and it´s a complete kernel is really a good Kernel, estable, and work so fine, and not draw the battery.
Actually i have Darkys v10.0RC5b2 rom and try DamianGTO_Ginger_Beta_6__340HZ, no good it´s unstable and with the ram don´t work good.
Now I have Ficeto Kernel, Dark Core 2.0 and really work so good with the ram and with batery, it´s very stable and it´s a complete Kernel whit lagfix and ext4.
Now I want try Dark Core 2.1 and probably the last Hardcore´s Kernel, speedmod-kernel-k15c-test5-o2-09q3-500hz, perhaps now without reboot problem.
Hmmm....I dont think your probs are kernel related but more MOD ROM related....
You missed the Hardcore's SpeedMod kernel!
From the beginning JVK and now JVB both deodexed by Ramad with CFRoot is a winning team for me.No ext-4 stuffs,or as a test...killing time...,and just happy like that.Flashing mods and themes, enjoying his CWM application, can't thank enough Chainfire for accompanying us in our wish to use this 2.3 «release».
Only one sudden battery drain as far for me and it was a google process.Maybe related to maps, read that somewhere...
MY SGS New XWJVB Problems...
1. my screen going off when im still working...or playing game...or calling with loudspeaker (check this) (when not touch)
2. always on my touch buttons lights (menu= back keys)
3. didn't play some games (restart phone and stucking) but can play that games on my older froyo firmware...
I'm using XWJVB (old i use XXJVK) with CWM3 EXT4 File Sys...... please....tell me this gingerbread releases are still beta or final releases?
I'm using CF-Root 3.1 and it works but haven't that much to compare with because I'm new in this stuff and haven't tested any other kernel.
I'm using Simple Honey 3.1 (JVB) right now with CF-Root 3.1 + EXT4 converted and wonder if I'm able to change kernel without wipe the phone? If I don't need to wipe then I may study the difference between those kernels
Great puting all up to date kernels in one list tho, that makes it easier for me and others who are curious about them.

I haven't had any problems on all the kernels.
It is just a matter of taste i think.
Some have other features (focus areas) then others, but in general they are all stable. Even the released developers version of supercurio.
So it seems that they all know what they are doing.
Personally i am using now the damiangto kernel for the more memory, just because i have SPD Shell 3D running and it consumes at lot of memory.
Here's my very, very executive executive summary:
- I rooted using CF-root 3.1 (not 3.0, filename was "CF-Root-XW_XEE_JVB-v3.1-CWM3RFS.tar").
I used this only to gain root and to flash CWM3-dependent patches, so I didn't get to fool much around with it. But from my light usage, I definitely didn't notice any problems.
- I've been running pretty much all JVK/JVB-revisions of supercurio's kernel so far (for the ext4 lagfix) and I can't really complain about anything. The added audio-drivers are definitely a bonus. Can't live without them now. I haven't had any issues with performance nor stability.
- Fugumod.
I'm absolutely alien to this kernel/mod and really have no experience with it. Not tried it once. That said, people has said earlier in the JVA/JVB/JVK-thread that when they rooted using Fugumod, they had issues connecting their phones to Kies afterwards. And they said a reflash of stock firmware and then using CF-Root instead solved their problems.
Unless you have some very specific reasons to go this route, it seems this is the only one with consistently confirmed problems so far and might be worth avoiding. Maybe the problems have been identified and fixed though. Not absolutely sure here.
- DamianGTO.
Absolutely alien to this one as well, but haven't seen any posts about specific issues either.
Hmmm havn't tried darkcoreGB yet...

....
I was on Darky RC3 with DarkCore 2 and wasa super smooth and fast.
Then I decided to try MIUI RC6 ... run it from Friday to Sunday when I gave up:
1. camera not working
2. touch keys are iffy, sometimes they work, other times they don't
3. My 3G network kept dripping all the time
4. try to flash differnet modem broke IMEI and had to reinstall the whole ROM
5. when alarm sounds, i could not stop it unless i lock and unlock the screen
6. there is no support, for every issue I had the answer was: it's in the FAQ
So I am back on Darky 10RC5.3 and much more happier; faster, smoother, camer works, 3G is fine, i can flash any modem I want and above all the support team is fantastic.
Battery life
What about battery life? I test speedmod for 3 days and I find less battery autonomy that 2.2.1.
For a medium usage after a day it's over!!!!
Does anyone have this trouble???
Yeah Damian is no longer at xda. He is still developing tho at his own forum. Using his beta7 with no issues do far except a hot reboot after I wiped cache

Choosing the right kernel

Hi all,
My Galaxy S i9000 will arrive tomorrow and I'd like to be prepared how to and which kernel to flash.
I'll probably just flash JVQ, the latest official Gingerbread 2.3.4 ROM. But I can't decide which kernel to use. My main priority is the performance and safety (by this I mean recovery options).
I have found two kernels which might fit my needs.
First of all SpeedMod Gingerbread. It has EXT4 lagfix and sound improvements etc. It seems good to me.
There are no instructions for this one, but my guess is to just flash the .tar with ODIN as PDA?
Second I have found CF-Root. There are clear instructions so I don't need help how to, but is this a good option as a kernel?
What kernel do you think is the best for the Gingerbread ROM JVQ?
Also, what about CWM? How do I boot into this recovery? Does it replace the default recovery?
Sorry for the noob questions, but as you see I'm quiet uncertain about these things, though I've read alot.
Thanks
Stock JVQ ?
Why won't you flash a custom ROM ? For example you could install Insanity's, Darky's, etc... which are sort of "packages" containing everything you are looking for.
Each one of them have a specific forum in Dev, with flashing explanations.
As for kernels, if I ever needed to change, I'd go for Glitch.
I would wait and use cf root when its released and if your not happy with the speed then use an oc kernal.there are many packages that will be available for all the mods you want in the themes section.this way you will be as close to stock as possible avoiding any unwanted issues
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I've considered Darky's 10.1, but I dunno, I don't like the green colors and everything.
Insanity and glitch look cool. I must have overlooked this ROM, I might consider it. Thanks for the tip
Stock with CF-Root seems to be the fastest in Quadrant. I'm in doubt.
bro i think u have to keep Cf-root i install jvq and put Speedmod in it but u cant image it doesnot contain Superuser and cmw after that i install Cf-root it really better then speedmod this time not always.........i hope u can go with cf root
Have you considered other kernels like Semaphore, Galaxian or Talon?
All of these have OC/UV capabilities, EXT 4 and more performance tweaks than CF-Root itself.
Speedmod is currently undergoing major developments (less stable versions being tested). You can wait until it has a stable version before flashing.
And you can buy Voodoo control plus if you want great sound.
I know Talon has Voodoo sound v9 built in. So, take your pick
For stock JVQ I recommend to use stock kernel until the custom kernels have updated JVQ initframs.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I'll look intro Talon. I won't overclock my device as I want it too last as long as possible The Voodoo stuff seems interesting. Would it work if I just flashed it over CF-Root? Guess not. I would have to flash the stock kernel and then Talon again?
With the latest stock JVQ I'm getting 1400 score in Quadrant, kinda low. I'm now attempting to convert to ext4, but the system folder has too less space, trying to move some apps.
Edit:
With everything converted to ext4 I now have 2300, that's better I'll leave it like this I think. I'm fine. Thanks for the tips
In that case i would recommend to use Talon 0.3.1 without OC.

yep, use Stock JVQ 2.3.4 (not deodexed! many errors: phone and browser fcs) and galaxian kernel.
My SGS is flying with that combination
damian kernel flies with jvq and has what you want scores of 3500 to 3700

Need help from good people of xda

So i am on this forum for a long time now i tested every rom and kernel with games and how they work and all but now i need your help currently i am on stock rom and i am sick of it because it is slow and my internal memory is 150/190 mb used... i stopped playing games and i am now looking for fastest rom that won't bug,and i need it for messages and music player so do you have any opinion on what should i use cm7 ? kyrillos ? or there is something better ? faster ? easier to use?
ty to all that help me
Kyorarom would help in opening apps faster as you can use kyora app to lock apps in memory so they open faster. I recommend kyorarom too for its tweaks and theme. Its really up to you
Cheers

Ok, let me summarize a bit... I was planning on making a guide for my setup for all those who want update but are a bit skeptic towards custom ROMs.
Let's get started...
Firstly, I have to state that I tried almost every ROM out there and Kyorarom, personally left biggest impact on me considering speed...
BUT, few days ago, I had some crazy picture in my head which was saying that modding one part of ROM crashes whole integrity of that ROM. So I was thinking that probably the best solution would be putting stock ROM and changing kernel only.
So, what did I do?
I decided to try to update ROM to original Froyo supplied from my provider (T-mobile Croatia)
1.) I flashed complete eclair...
2.) Failed to update to Froyo via Kies (who would say...)
- when Kies downloads a ROM it stores it to temp folder. As it didn't want to update from Kies, I took the same ROM and flashed it through ODIN
3.) As that worked perfectly, I had clean XXJPQ (So far the best one I got...) and decided to put a root as I faced some problems before while flashing kernels which should grant me a root...
4.) After I got root, it came to me that I just have to choose right kernel. I decided to go for fugumod. In this case, I took fugumod 2.4 800 Mhz (Cpu setup - 333.5 / 800 Mhz, governor performance)
Right now, you have a ultra mega fast ROM with incredible battery life. (Using ROM whole day with data and wifi + some music got it down to 85% from fully charged)
After that all I did was put 5LS mod and extended power menu...
I'm using Nemus Launcher which has left the smoothest impact on me and the most satisfying options provided for customizing...
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
EDIT:
As there wasn't recovery, and with that no backup option, I had feeling like it's really needed. Fugumod didn't serve any kind of recovery and I haven't found any kind of standalone install for CWM, it was time for me to change kernel. Candidates were kyorakernel (hillbeast) and astrum (moikop). As I tried kyorakernel before and it is based on fugumod and g3mod I decided to go for astrum which is based on samsung.
Results:
It showed great results for now. RZ Recovery packed with kernel is really great. Simple to use, has better interface...
Kernel also gives possibility to use Data2SD (hybrid) and OC to 1ghz (I preffer myself 800 mhz with lagfree governor)
Also, as it simply wasn't enough for me, I decided to go for CMbins 0.3.1 made by hillbeast.
OFC, it gave great boost to the phone...
I was thinking that there isn't much possibility to make it any better but once again I proved myself wrong...
that's a great idea though fugumod is a bit outdated.
any idea on how to enable hd2sd on that? otherwise i ll wait for hillbeast or moikop to iron the bugs on theirs...

No idea, sorry... To be honest I'm waiting for kyorakernel or astrum kernel too. Fugumod is solution because it's the best kernel for now, even outdated...
s'funny, i was thinking about this yesterday, i'm having problems with a gps app, dev thinks its because of custom rom. that got me to thinking about smonic (member) who is/was using stock jpu.
i was wondering if you could flash stock jpu, then g3mod 2.2.2 as kernel? then you would have cwm, extended power memory etc.
sd carc partition would also work?? (methinks? i have a lot of apps, and i use pretty much all of them!)
is this scenario viable????
pretty much a noob at these matters, i get it all, but i dont!!

Of course it's viable I'm advising everyone to flash eclair and take froyo supplied from your provider via kies
problem there was i flashed froyo because my provider wanted me to hand in phone and have it sent off to be updated, taking 2 weeks...
thats why i began on the slippery slope to flashing and rooting
but flashing stock jpu from the list somewhere on this site should work too? or not?
edit- maybe we should start this as a new thread, kinda hijacked this one....not intended @shadowmaniac.

If kies detects your phone you should be on your way to update. It probably wouldn't want to update it but will download ROM in temp folder. You can take it from there and flash via odin.
