I am sure this has been discussed, but i 0 results when I searched this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php
And from Google search the only thing I found was an application called Tango but some said it wasnt possible :http://www.google.com/search?source...ideo+chat+from+MyTouch+4G+to+iPhone+4&qscrl=1
So, is Tango the way to video chat between MT4G and i4? If so is it the only way? Does it require wifi from both sides or just the iPhone? Thanks for any help, and sorry for asking this for probably the millionth time but I couldnt find the previous discussion...
Why don't you just try it? Like seriously you must be asking this because you want to video chat with someone that has an i4 so tell then to dl tango aand try it... like seriously. Wasting time looking for answers you could easily Come up with. Tango works great, the best imho but if you want to see other video chat services, search video chat or calling in market on both devices and look for common apps...

Yahoo Messenger, ooVoo, Tango are your options as of currently.
Thanks for the help. Also, what I'm doing is actually the opposite of "wasting time". My wifes mytouch arrives tomorrow or the next day, i thought I'd search around and figure out how to video chat before it came so I wouldn't waste time messing with various apps that may or may not work. When we both had vibrants we used fring, but since vibrants are such pieces of **** I wound up with an i4 and tmobile exchanged her piece of **** vibrant for a new mytouch. Incidentally, they told us just to keep the piece of **** vibrant, that's what a piece of **** the vibrant is, tmobile didn't even want to try to refurbish the piece of **** because it's such a piece of ****. I know the majority of this post is superfluous but I just hate the samsung vibrant with every fiber of my being I can't help bad mouthing it every chance I get. We went through 7 vibrants between us and not one had working gps.

Lol, sorry; someone bought mine for around $300 so im going to force my self to sell the wifes even though I know the gps will never work. Look for it on eBay soon it'll be a good starting price, and I think I have at least 1 or 2 extra samsung batteries I'll throw in along with a car mount and a class 6, 8 gb card if I can find it, plus a rubber case and an already perfectly applied screen protector and I guess I'll throw in whatever extra unopened screen protectors I have. I won't stet it at more than $150-$175

First, my sympathies to the OP. I returned the PoS Vibrant at 14 days, many thanks to this fine site for letting me know it was the model, not the sample I received (or its replacement).
I dredged through this forum, and did a search on the wider web trying to find a video chat app for my MT4G, and I didn't find any answer other than the quoted one (which left out Qik).
So. There are 4 options, and NONE of them will talk to any client but their own, is that right?
Which is another way of saying that the FFC is worthless.
Are the software makers such pinheads? The second someone <cough>Google</cough> comes out with video chat that works with Jabber (what Google's Talk uses and iChat can use), all the others become irrelevant. Jabber and Skype would support anyone I ever would video chat with and I'm not holding my breath for Skype to support video anytime soon.
Skype just recently bought out Qik (the video chat on MT4G) and it was announced (or leaked) that they are developing an Android version of their app that supports video calling. It was demoed on the HTC Thunderbolt but isn't available anywhere else yet. So I'm just holding out for Skype because like you said, that's all I would need.

First: Great news!
Second: I said it wrong. I should have said "Once support for Jabber and Skype comes out all the others become irrelevant".
Skype gets me to 1 person who I video chat with. Everyone else uses iChat, signing on to jabber.google.com.
And it was an overstatement for me to say that the FFC is useless w/o Skype or Jabber support. I've used it like a mirror a couple times.
Is there an app for viewing Netflix on the Iconia? I tried to view Netflix from the browser and received an error about formatting for this device.

Nothing official from them yet. I've seen a leaked app, but it didn't work on my Samsung Fascinate.
Unless Google comes up with some blanket deal with Netflix, the process for portable devices is device specific:
1. Device must have the proper DRM keys and chipset for adequate streaming & playback.
2. OEM must submit the device for approval and pay Netlfix for the set-up and Netflix server access.
It would be cool if this changed, but Google would have to pay up, since already tons of iPhones, iPad and iPods using the service. LG is the only Android OEM to get Netlfix approval with their Revolution.
You can use Playon Mobile to watch Netflix on your Android device temporarily. You'll have to pay for it though after the trial is done. I think you pay annually and then you get access to PlayOn on pretty much any device the whole time. Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon VOD should work this way.
PlayOn is nice, but less efficient than a straight Netflix app (need to have your host computer on to network off of for PlayOn). Still better than nothing and provides more options for content.
People waiting for a working Netflix app will probably not be happy. OEMs have to pay up and the chipset must be qualified.
i have a netflix app for my G2 which works great. It also worked on my Nook Color. But it doesnt work on my brand new acer. It says my device isnt supported.

The actual Netflix app that stream movies from Netflix, or just the rental management?
android netflix
the app is out and netflix said they are going to add phones/devices
i guess netflix finally figured out that android is the real deal
FYI, I've installed the apk directly on my device and it will not play videos on the A500 currently. You click to launch a video and the screen flickers and then goes back to the page you were on before clicking play.
They have only released Netflix for select phones. Don't even bother trying it on the a500, it won't work.

this was the leaked official app from the LG phone. but like others said, the official release is out now but only supports certain phones.
Yeah, Work's great on my Nexus one hope they release an optimized honeycomb version for A500 soon...
Works really well on my evo. Even the hdmi out is nice. Hopefully netflix will show some tablet love soon.
I suspect the problem is with the tegra and not the os. It may not be optimized to be decoded on our tablets yet, but I guess software may be a limitation also. Does the optimus 2x have a netflix app? That might be more useful for us to try if it does...just a thought?
There's been a work around that can get it to work w/ other non-supported devices posted over at android police (would post link, but I don't have enough posts under my belt). Haven't tried it yet, so no idea if it works for the A500.

I tried the work around. No dice. Tried both build props for HTC vision and Nexus S. Worked on my G tablet running CyanogenMod 7 though.
It does not work on the gTablet that uses Froyo, either.
Netflix is SUPPOSED to be device specific, but there has already been hacks for Droid X (certain rooted roms it works). Folks that should be ticked are official rom users that own bloatware infested devices that use Blockbuster.
Blockbuster bloated devices will probably "never" see official support for Netflix, but rooters might luck out.
Netflix works great on my Incredible, but it is an officially supported device.

Well....the blockbuster infected Evo was added to the list yesterday....so I wouldn't give up.
For those that have a subscription there are options, but as mentioned it does require a host computer

have you tried the method mentioned today 5/13 about changing a line to HTC vision or nexus s?
you can find this over androidguys.
First day with transformer. I use Slacker extensively on my DX but Market doesn't show me any love. Hoping it is temporary issue. Anybody know if it is not supported?
Not not have Honeycomb support. You could e-mail the dev to ask if they are working on a Honeycomb tablet compatible app.
Thanks. I didn't realize that some apps would not be available on Honeycomb tablets.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised given that many apps for iPhones don't run on iPad (excluding the 2X option).
You could use Pandora for now...
Skype just updated it's android application to version 2.1 which now has support for 20 devices and support for video calls for devices running android 2.2+ :
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...ncluding-evo-3d4g-thunderbolt-sgs12-and-more/
I have an HTC Desire HD , did the update and in spite of only having one cam on the back, it is really supporting video calls as I made a test call and it shows the Desire HD's cam (in America HTC EVO) image ( I guess I have to put the device in front of a mirror if I want people to see me )
Anyway sadly enough it still does not support Honeycomb, thus our ASUS Transformer tablets, I perform the update on the ASUS Transformer, but still it doesn't show video conferencing options... Maybe this time some developer will hack it for us....
This is the only thing i envy ipads, they have facetime and we have nothing... well crappy gtalk and some other ones that nobody uses.
Update didnt change anything on my transformer or nexus one.. still no video call.

I agree. And when they do it successfully, they are going to have to fight off the thank yous and open a Swiss bank account from all the donations.
Have you kissed a Developer's ass today?

It took Skype over a year to come out with Ipad version, let's hope it doesn't take this long for HC...
I wouldn't get my hopes up. I read an article saying that they are now focusing their efforts on the Windows Phone platform. Makes sense since Microsoft bought them (/is buying them).
I wonder why Skype are so reticent to adding video calling to Honeycomb tablets. nVidia demoed Skype HD running on Tegra 2 back as early as January of this year. But I haven't heard anything since just the rather lame excuse of only having it supported on a limited number of Android devices and that more would be coming soon. When Google release Ice Cream Sandwich which is supposed to unify tablets and smartphones, I wonder what will happen then. Will Skype still be trying to switch video support on and off for different devices.

Forget mobile platforms, Skype can't even manage to code proper software on the desktop. Not only have they not made Skype compatible with most high-def webcams, they've actually gone out of their way to make it *incompatible* intentionally, with all but one specific brand's webcams.
Getting high-def video working on Skype for Windows is possible, but requires you to run an old version, avoid it getting automatically updated to a newer version, and then manually editing files to get it to accept the video feed at the right resolution.
Until they get their act together on other platforms, I really don't see things improving on Android at any significant rate.
The new skype app also has this annoying feature that everytime you get network connection it starts Skype by itself.
I used to be able to use "Kill Skype" to kill it, now I have to log out from Skype.

No, because google+ sucks and must be avoided.
However, I thought skype said it works on the Xoom ? So its just them slacking. And its very dubious programming behavior to check your app against a list to see if it works. - just do it right.

I myself do not think that Google+ sucks, in fact I find it quite good. But I am an old and regular user of Skype I even have paid packages to make skypeout calls and I have many friends and family members in Skype all living abroad, so the audio and video calls are truly a blessing and justified thing for me, not a luxury or a "nice-to-have" option. Right now, whether we like it or not, Skype is a much more popular, thus massive , platform than google talk or google+ , so it would really make my day when Skype brings video capability to Android 3.0+.
Let's start adding Cornerstone from Onskreen!!! I really hate when I can't video and chat on Google Talk at the same time (roommate sleeping means that I can't talk out loud!).
Looking forward to this too. Has anyone tried the xoom flash on their site?
