Att 2.2 differences - Streak 5 General

Can someone get past the fact they successfully loaded 2.2 and tell all those on 318,319,322 the following
Is mobile hot spot and tethering intact?
do you have the unknown sources options in applications?
what version of swipe is loaded?
better camera app and pictures?
what are the art bloat apps?
how is battery life?
are there added options for vibration control or font change?
thanks

Did not no there were update from 318
Were did you find update past 318?
Also you are right everyone is so ecstatic about 2.2 they never tell us the difference between AT&T and build 318.
I can't even have my browser update my phone, I think it's because I rooted it to base 00.

im interested in answers for this too. anyone want to download the 340 build 14844 rom and let us know?

Mobile hotspot requires a tethering contract, or it won't work.
EasyTether appears to no longer work.
We now know why this update took so long, they spent all that time crippling the system to make a buck for themselves.

has anyone tried the QDL tool with the update?

Ok, I finally got the att 2.2 loaded. It took forever. had to downgrade all the way down to 1.6. Here's the answers to some of the questions I have seen asked:
-Baseband ver GAUSB1A134031-US
-KERNEL VER 2.6.32.9-perf
-Build 14844
-No bloatware
-No tethering or wifi hotspot.
-Super one click 1.7 rooted it.
-Its Fast. REALLY FAST.
-Is it possible that the camera app got worse? Definitely not an improvement.
-Swipe 2.8.80.12867
-The phone app has some slight tweaks.
-the email program is much improved. nice tweaks. It has a combined inbox. Did the other version have that? I mostly used k-9 because it is a lot better. Still no multi-touch pinch to zoom.
-DID I SAY IT WAS FAST? CAUSE ITS FAST. I MEAN STREAK DROID FAST. NO LAGS.
I’ll need a couple of days to decide if its worth it.

finally made it to att 2.2
i was on 318 as well had to go all the way back to 1.6 to get it to work.. havent had much time to go through.. but i would definitely agree it is much faster then 318

What's the Quadrant score on 340? Has anyone tried perfmod on it?

Would one of you folks mind pasting the fingerprint from the build.prop? I want to see if I can regain AT&T carrier billing in the market on streakdroid 1.8

Ditto that request.
Would really like to see that ATT installs as the ro.ril.xxxxx statements for setup of the cell system parameters.

According to captivate forum if you delete tethering manger 1.0 with titanium backup you can get around the att tethering verification.
Anyone want to try?

So is K-9 better than the new email client or do you prefer the new email client over K-9?

Anyone want to try my tethering suggestion?

it would still work without a tethering plan. the only phones att was capable of controlling that on where iphones and blackberrys. windows mobile and android have it build in, but removable. the unlocked version of the att streak does have a setting to turn on tethering. but apparently this version has it turned off, it doesnt take much to do it, verizon does it too, just copy what they do.

Yep I still think so. Pinch to zoom is enabled. It also has the ability to pop up notifications. Its getting closer, though.

Ditto here on everything.
I did try to back it up in streakmod and CWM both failed.
Email was the same. Exchange sync failed for me with it as well. Our server has a self signed ssl. and the accept all does not work.
Looked just like 318 to me with unknown sources missing from settings applications.

Wifi tether for root users

Now that slide has been rooted, this is the one app I would most like to see.

No go. Seems to create a network, but my computer fails to connect even after letting it sit for a while. It does ask for an receive root permission and doesn't seem to throw any errors.
look at logcat see if you can find the errors
From twitter:
wesgarner: @localmuaythai yup will have wifi tether working *crosses fingers*
SWEEEEET.

i posted up a thread in the app section seeing if anyone has any root apps working and whats wrong with their current root apps..
Uhhh.... I can connect all 3 of my computers to wifi tether 2.0.2 or something like that. First thing I did when I rooted.

Are you sure they are surfing?? are your on slidemetoot2 or on the tmo rom
just a tip I still havent rooted but I did miss my tether so I looked into EasyTether and it lets you tether without root. The lite version lets you surf any site except https so basically you can surf anything except secure sites you have to log into. If you like to the lite version though you can always buy the full version. This is what I am using until I root.

This is true but you can log into sites that have a login as long as they are not HTTPS.
But i downloaded it and installed it in less then 15 minutes and it works great!
**** root.
Multi touch, tether, flash, and sick widgets? Why does one need root?
2.2 Will bring Aps2sd and all will be fine.

Honestly, the only real reason I want root at all is hopes of a Sense rom that mirrors HTC sense. HTC took a plain, boring GUI and turned it into something beautiful, something elegant. Not that Espresso isn't nice looking, but compared to Sense it's nothing.
Also, I want to remove all of the **** that HTC and Tmo insisted we needed, such as Peep, Stocks, Amazon MP3 (google, but still), and all the MyFaves junk.

Yeah its great. The one reason I really cared for root was for tether and now with EasyTether it doesnt seem worth the hassle. At least not with this phone, if I still had my G1 I would think different. You say 2.2 will bring apps2sd, is that a definite? Have we heard when we will see 2.2 on the Slide?
But Easytether is only via usb right?

Froyo for streak

Is froyo better functioning and looking than the official o2 2.1 rom? Because right now I'm on the 2.1 and it feels super fast I just don't think I can live without flash
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Well its a beta so it has a few minor bugs - just a question if you can live with them.
Personally the pro's far outweigh the cons, but you may have different requirements so...
Speed - Much much faster, Flash - Awesome and you get access to lots of froyo apps.
So far the bugs I'm aware of that have been reported by multiple users (I 've ignored single person reports as they are often because people forget to reboot/haven't read the instructions/already had the fault - I've also ignored a few that have been reported which are based on people not understanding what they are seeing or have ignored the solution when its been put to them or are based on 'it seems slower doing xyz or the battery discharges faster' - I've flashed back and forward and tested 2.1 v's 2.2 and the gps is not slower to first lock and the battery drain is pretty much identical. Sorry it wasn't meant to be an essay but reading the modaco forum you would think it doesn't work at all!
So this is the list of bugs that I have been able to replicate -
1. the sensor sometimes gets stuck to it doesn't switch landscape/portrait 100% of the time - probably the most irritating bug but no biggy
2. Some apps don't appear in the market - but it only seems to be 1 or 2 and if you ask in the forums, someone will send you a direct link to the apk file
3. Froyos inbuilt tethering only works on USB but there are a couple of free ones which work fine.
4. Pausing a track in the music player brings up a 'cannot play this file message' so you either have to go back or forward a track to resume.
5.radio channels 12 and 13 aren't accessible on wifi
6. camcorder wont run at 720p
err that's it - unless you run at one of the non standard screen densities which introduces a few minor problems.
Personally I'd say if you are happy doing the flashing then go for it.
Point 2. Some apps?
Under communications I only see 10 apps listed

Read to the end of the modaco thread - you have to clear the market data - he's also just removed the build so he can tweak a problem that's been introduced with the camera.
We shouldn't really be discussing this here otherwise we will get the mods wrath, better keep to the builds thread.
Does froyo fix the wireless issues on 1.6? Meaning the not connecting to wireless networks and having to manually turn on wireless on and off to get it to connect.

HTC aria 2.2.2 update review

So I decided I'd give the new official update for the HTC aria a shot despite all the talk about not being able to root it yet. So far some pretty important things I've noticed is the fact that there is no sideloading. I saw someone on here say that it would be able to sideload - incorrect. The second big thing is the fact that it does not have the touchpad button wake. You have to use the power button which is a huge flaw for me. Someone also said that it would be capable of overclocking- as far as I know right now I don't think you can, but I can't be 100% sure yet because of the lack of sideloading and the 4.99 for setcpu. Some of the cool new features I do like is the mobile hotspot capabilities, live wallpapers, and the market update. So now I want to see what others have to say about it. Please come tell me what you've found!

Did you purchase a used phone? Was it already rooted? Did the seller install the latest update from HTC/AT&T?
The 2.2 update from at&t is not an Over-the-air (OTA) update. It's offered by at&t via the HTC web site. The update, therefore, takes work on the user's part. It's not automatic.
That said, if you purchase a phone from eBay that is factory fresh from at&t, it's possible it already has the 2.2 update - I put the odds at 50%.
For what it's worth, the only thing wrong with the stock build of this device's ROM is the at&t bloatware/crapware. Other than that, it's a solid device, and there are ways to customize the phone to your liking.

Use the stock HTC sync software that came with your Aria - when prompted to update, don't do it!

I'm not sure about enabling RTL support, but I think people have been talking about it on these forums.
At first my phone felt quick when it was processing, but initial response to screen presses felt slightly laggy. I was concerned. But after running it for a few weeks now, without a task killer, it feels like quite a quick more featured phone. Seems like there was a calibration and optimization duration there. Maybe it's in my head? Very happy with the upgrade, especially for apps to SD!
Oh, and add gingerbread keyboard from the market and the phone is twice as good!

You can do side loading by using android injector. You can find it at at harmonyhollow or softpedia. Just type in Android Injector at google. It also allows you to install multiple apps at the same time.

How do you get Apps to SD to work on this rom?
In the past I was using Darktremor's a2sd preinstalled on the Liberated Aria roms.
I am now on the Liberated version of the rom (thanks to Gene Poole - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970272), but I don't know how to do apps2sd here. I have my sdcard partitioned with ext3 (512 Mb), but it's not getting used automatically.

[Q] Should I get an Atrix?

Couple of questions for Atrix owners running the latest update. Can I get your feedback on these?
- How is flash performance on the Atrix? Is it smooth or is it choppy?
- How hard is it to enable 3rd party installs (don't care about full root or anything else) just being able to install apps outside Market
- Is the screen really that bad? Saw it in a store and it looks great to me.
- Does the phone every spontaneously reboot or is unstable? I need something that'll be super stable
- I can always replace Blur launcher with LPP or ADWEX but are there other customizations Moto has that are extremely annoying? Anyway to get around them without new ROM?
- How are you overall satisfied with the phone?
- How is signal strength? Lot of dropped calls or none?
I'm looking more for people who haven't rooted and/or just did the 3rd party install hack. I know rooted folks will probably be installing a new ROM but I'm looking for stock experience. I have CM7 running on an Inc and honestly, it's great but there's not a huge difference between Froyo and Gingerbread in most day to day tasks.

1. I don't use too much flash, but it seems pretty smooth to me on the sites I have used.
2. You have to root to enable non-market apps. You can always sideload with ADB, but that's different. Rooting was easy.
3. The screen is great for text and graphics, but looks meh to me for videos. My wife's iPhone 4 has a prettier-looking screen, but it's smaller.
4. I had one reboot once. That's in 10 days of ownership. I was using Maps or Navigation or something.
5. MotoBLUR can be annoying, but you can mostly get around it. There is an issue with getting email notifications when using Corporate Sync with Exchange Server 2003. Other than that it's not too intrusive. The accounts set-up is done through BLUR, too.
6. I am mostly satisfied with the phone, but I miss flashing roms and would love to get AOSP on this. MotoBLUR isn't my favorite. Battery life isn't stellar, but it gets me through a day with moderate use.
7. Never had a dropped call. I had to laugh when I still had full bars and my wifes iPhone said "no signal" the other day while driving.

You have to downgrade to the original shipping firmware to root initially, and the script preps the device for the update. Then you do the update. Then you run another script. Then you're on the latest and you have root. Done and done.

Yup, very easy. Just make sure you follow the instructions to the letter. I also installed Gingerblur, and my phone is so much better now!
I just rooted last night and did the upgrade. It was really easy so I'd consider doing it as soon as possible. Consider that if you do the OTA 1.5.7 update without root you won't have any backup utilities to save your data if you want to get root, and thus have to downgrade.

From what I've read on the Moto forums it is limited to Exchange 2003. I have no way to test whether that is true because all I have access to is 2003.
I get notifications sometimes, but it's spotty.

New Softbank Rom: 369

Totally out of left field: dell released a new rom for softbank.
The changelog does not seem to state much.
Android 2.2.2
Build date: Jul 10, 2012
Build: 29579
Dell Stage 1.6
The rom is completely identical to 366 except for the following files:
<root>\boot.img
<root>\amss.mbn
<root>\dbl.mbn
<root>\dsp1.mbn
<root>\osbl.mbn
<root>\system\build.prop
<root>\system\app\quickoffice.apk
Out of all those, only boot.img seems to have changed more then just being resigned/trivial changes.
Dell normally holds a rom for 1 month to test before releasing, but the normal release date for a rom built in july would be mid/late august.
So for whatever reasons: they held it back for a month.
It also only includes a trivial amount of changes, so it's not much more then going though the motions of a release
I received the update SMS today and came here to check. Figured you would have some additional info on this.
Still Froyo? I guess I'm never getting a phone from Softbank again.
Blame Dell/Qisda's dell team/Softbank
The SPro's still on GB too.
The Lenovo LePad S2005 (ie the "Opus one") got ICS back in April.
I dont even know why they released 369, I cant tell if it even changed anything as far as softbank's changelog is concerned.

maybe the user or the dev is old school type .. and pretty much on comfort zone...
Official roms arnt custom roms, they cant simply release it and hope there's no serious issues. They have to have staff on hand to test for 3 weeks before releasing.
Even if they only changed like a dozen lines of code at best for it.

Package name is streak_29579_12.pkg
Has anyone tried this?

I currently sport the Dell official 360 rom and I was wondering if it was worth the bother of udating to this one? has anyone given it a go and does it work?
Any pointers would be appreciated! Also interested in whether it requires a complete reset or if it upgrades leaving data/apps in place? :fingers-crossed:

Any time you flash a DELL update.pkg it's going to do a factory reset.
TheManii may put together a zip package for it though

rom: 2.5 gb
are we going to get an official ics as we had before from olleh an official gb ??
2.5gb is 500mb nand + 2gb innerSD.
I dont expect them to ever make official ICS.
Even 2.3.5+ isnt something I'd expect.

Has anyone installed this yet? Does it improve wifi performance and is it ok in the UK? I hate being the first at these things!!
Well I took the plunge and generally I am pleased with the results. Wifi seems much more stable and most things work, although mms does not seem to be working at the moment. Also softbank does not come with a sms app pre-installed, instead they use their own combined messaging app which I have not tried yet. I installed an sms app from the market and it works ok, apart from mms

The MMS issue I was having was me being an idiot - I had run out of credit I have never used Wifi Hotspot. There is an app that comes rolled into this rom which seems to be for tethering but i have not used it. The WiFi in general is excellent and seem way more stable that any other ROM I've used to date (and I've used quite a few). I think it may be easier to look up a 3rd party (barnacle I think) tool to get the tethering working - but I know very little about this.

I've been using it for a while and generally all is good. It seems better on battery than the 360 rom, the WiFi seems more stable, though I do get the odd issue with it not connecting but far less than any other rom I've used. I do not use tethering and I know that is not present, but there are apps in the market to do this anyway. SuperUser.zip also happily rooted it with no issues. It does seem to be quicker than other Froyo roms too - so overall I'd say it's worth an upgrade. Be aware that the native messaging app will not work on it for some reason, but Handsent or Go SMS are just fine and dandy - unless you run out of credit (see earlier post by me)
If I had to stick to a single rom this would be the one. I am tempted to go for DSC and I've been told by the author that it can be flashed over this rom - so I may report back when 1.6 is rolled out fully and I've installed it to give a comparison.
I hope this helps!
I've looked and haven't found any links for what I'm looking for which is just the amss and dsp1 files to flash in fastboot... anybody got those uploaded anywhere? I hate to flash the entire ROM just to extract those two, but if I have to then I just have to... thanks guys for any help
