Rom Manager wont boot into Clockworkmod to Flash Roms

I've been trying to help a friend flash ROM's to his X. We've installed the paid Bootstrap and Rom Manager. We then utilized the bootstrap utility, and flashed clockworkmod recovery. We then go to the Download rom section of Rom Manager and choose FlyX, it downloads, we then check backup current rom, and wipe data, continue. The phone attempts to boot into clockworkmod but wont. It does the update package part, fails, and then reboots normally. I should also note that when I attempt to boot into clockworkmod recovery via bootstrap it is successful. Could I find the downloaded Rom via the menu in clockworkmod and install it that way? Is there a step in installing Clockworkmod that I'm missing? I've been checking the forums but all I can find for solutions is people saying to install bootstrap again. I've uninstalled and reinstalled both programs twice and nothing has changed. Thanks so much in advance for the help.
open rom manager and click on flash clockworkmod recovery.
everything you download with rom manager goes into the /clockworkmod/download folder on your mem card.
Tried that.didn't work.

You need to open up Bootstrap and select the top option... then you can proceed to Rom Manager.......Rom Manager cannot flash CW onto the DroidX that why we need Koush's Droidx Bootstrapper. Give that a try also Note i hope that you have booted into CW and made a Nandroid backup of your friends current phone state.. If that still doesnt work for you.. download the ROM off a forum and do it manually.

YOu need to download Koush bootstrap http://koush.tandtgaming.com//motorola/droidx/DroidXBootstrap.apk
So after I gain root, I open Bootstrap? I then hit the "Bootstrap Recovery" button? Then I open Rom Manager and click "flash the latest ClockworkMod Recovery", which I beleive is 2.5.0.7? Do I hit the "Reboot Recovery" button in Bootstrap after I flash the latest CW recovery?
that will get you into clockwork mod yes.
This helped, thanks everyone
Having the same problem. Im trying this hopefully I can get clockwork recovery to work

CW Rom Manager can't boot into recovery - freeze at HTC splash screen

Searched, but couldn't find an answer to this. I rooted and installed ROM Manager so I can do a nandroid backup before installing a custom ROM. However, when I press back up in ROM Manager, it restarts and hangs/freezes on the HTC MyTouch 4g splash screen.
What am I doing wrong?
Have you flashed CWM recovery after installing Rom Manager. You must flash the recovery before you can backup/restore or install roms. I almost did that myself but luckily i read the thread concerning it again and flashed REcovery before trying to back up rom.
Yeah, I did that first and the problem remains. I just uninstalled and reinstalled ROM Manager and am about to try "backup current rom" again (unless I should reboot into recovery and back up from clockwork recovery?).
FWIW; Current recovery is ClockworkMod 2.5.1.2
anyone?
Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I just started getting exactly the same. Cant reboot manually into clockwork recovery or from Rom manager :/
If you have flashed a recovery beyond that supported by ROM manager, you will not be able to perform recovery functions from the app (i.e. backup). CW3 is required for CM7 ROMs, but will not be supported by ROM manager until the CM7 RC drops. You can still manually boot to recovery (I always Vol up when powering then select Recovery) and if you have CM7 nightly installed, it has a "reboot to recovery" option in the reboot menu.
You need CWM3 to use CM7.

Sometimes it is necessary to flash clockwork recovery more than once before it will actually stick. Also, occasionally it will freeze on the splashscreen after a backup, but a battery pull and turning out the phone should be fine.

Here's what's going on:
The Clockworkmod Recovery that you can download from the Market only supports up to CyanogenMod 6.x. For CM7, you need to install Clockworkmod Recovery 3.x, but that version isn't available on the Market yet.
What this means is that you need to find the image file for a CWR 3.x on these forums and manually install it through either a terminal emulator or fastboot. The post below explains how to do it:

If you flash CM7 using CWR 2.x, your phone won't boot. There's just no way around it.

Careful with the terminology there. ROM Manager, the app you download from the Market, is a GUI front-end to the CWM recovery image, but you can download and install CWM without using ROM Manager at all. Just because you have ROM Manager installed doesn't mean that CWM recovery is also successfully installed.

Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't imply that CW ROM Manager and CW Recovery are the same thing though...

You said "the Clockworkmod Recovery that you can download from the Market", and that kinda does. No biggie though.
Just an update for my problem, it turned out that clockwork recovery had corrupted for whatever reason and couldn't be reinstalled from rom manager. As I wanted to test Cm7 anyways I just ended up flashing clockwork recovery 3 manually through fastboot and its all gravy again

How to flash clockwork recovery from fastboot or fron clockwork recovery 2.51?

Thanks, everyone. What happened with mine, I have no idea, but I randomly opened rom manager and was greeted with an update to the recovery. So I downloaded it and voila - I can now boot into recovery and do backups, etc...

Having trouble making backup of current rom.

Im trying to backup my current rom using rom manager. I flashed clockwork and all that, when i goto back up rom it resets and shows me the phone with the (!) sign above it. then i have to restart. any help on getting it to actually backup my rom?
The ! screen you are getting is the stock recovery. Go into ROM manager (you are rooted I hope?) and choose to install Clockwork Recovery (do it two or three times, it takes a few tries to "stick"). Then choose to "backup" and it will reboot you into Clockwork Recovery which will have backup options (and more!) available for you.

[Q] cant install recovery

how do i install clockwork recovery?? i can't install it using rom manager and havent been able to update my phone
does it give you an error in rom manager? what is your current recovery? does rom manager have superuser privilege in superuser?
Are you trying to restore a backup using ROM Manager? If you rooted your phone using unrEVOked it automatically installs Clockwork Mod recovery version 2.6.0.1. This is the recovery program you may have used to make your first backup. If you've recently updated ROM Manager beyond 2.6.0.1 and flashed a recovery you will not be able to restore a backup initially made with CWM recovery 2.6.0.1. The article below explains it all. You may need to re-flash CWM recovery 2.6.0.1 again and try and restore the backup manually booting up through recovery and not through ROM Manager. ROM Manager has been causing problems for some people. This version is found at the bottom of Koush's article. I hope this helps.

Unable to backup stock Android ROM

I've tried to create a backup of my current stockrom using apps like rom manager, cwm and team win. Whenever I click on the "backup" tab, it will reboot my phone and it will show the Android icon with its "belly" opened up. Once the phone boots up again, I can't find any trace of the backup file. What am I doing wrong?
I'm using the d802 version if that helps

it sounds like you have lost your recovery?try and reflash twrp or cwm I prefer twrp, with one of the methods on the twrp or cwm section in xda I have used flashify to install before now but once you have recovery you can then reflash them again if not working correctly if it has backed up your stock rom it will show up in apps like rom manager
have you checked in twrp or cwm that you have the necessary files checked before you back up ie mount and then tick all boxes?system, cache, dalvik, data, efs
hope this might help? is your current rom etc showing up in twrp or cwm folders say in es file manager (another good app to manage all your files)
