You probably need the right apn settings. Google them for your carrier.

i tried that earlier but the wierd thing was it was working for about 2 hours then all of a sudden i get nothing..i will try again when i get home..i even did a hard reset but no go..but thanks

same exact thing has happened to me for the last couple days. it seems to stop working at night around 11pm. I deleted my SMS Popup & Blink notification apps and rebooted and it worked, but then happened again the next night. second night i just had to reboot to get it working again. didnt happen tonight tho, hopefully it was just a passing thing...

u think its just tmobile or my APN settings

i get the data drop too. just random times of the day it decides to have no more data connection.
the only fix i have found is to reboot

I have this issue also. In fact just now my phone tells me I have no service from O2.
My internet reliability can depend on what corner of my desk I leave it on, it's ridiculous.
What I do tend to see a lot is that when there is a H icon my network bars are always grey, whereas when my data drops my network bars go back to normal (green).
I have 4 APN's for O2. I sometimes have to switch between two of them to get results during the day. I can only suggest googling the APN details, removing all other APN's and keeping in mind that the physical location of your phone can have effects on network performance - sometimes within one square meter like mine.

same issue , temp fix is reboot ...

As per my previous post, I just took the MMS settings out of the APN details and i've had flawless connectivity ever since.
It appears I am not able to add the Internet and MMS connectivity settings into one APN. When I was using CM7 (now on unofficial nightlies) I had to switch between APN's to download MMS messages.
Have a look at the APN you're using and make sure it only says "default, supl" at the bottom. Also ensure no details are stored for MMS - especially proxy details.

MyTouch not showing Edge/3G icon

I woke up this morning and my phone is not showing an E or 3G or even a G for that matter
At the lock screen it shows I'm registered on T-mobile network. I can place and receive calls/texts.
I can't access anything that uses data though. I've tried rebooting the phone and doing a battery pull.
This has me baffled.
This happened to me today too. I wasn't using any data so I thought nothing of it till a bit later when I restarted my phone and when it booted back up 3G came back on and the icon came back.
My theory is that the phone only tries to reconnect every once in a while to the Internet when the service goes down so it probably was just down when you tried before.
Can anyone confirm that this was a system wide Internet outage? Or regional? (Philly for me here)
Still no icons for me. i'm in alabama.
In my haste to figure it out I did a factory wipe/reset hoping to solve the problem. It didn't help. Now I can't sign into my gmail because it can't connect.
Still looking for help here if anyone can offer any
try checking your apns
Check your apns under settings>mobile networks> apns
Should say internet2.voicestream.com as on of the apns. Do a Google search to find the correct alms if you don't have T-Mobile
Hey, thanks for trying to help but it came back on its own just now. After i ended a call the E flashed for a second and then 3G popped back up and has been fine ever since. To bad I had to go all day without my data.
oh, and as far as I know my APN has always been epc.tmobile.com it works fine.
I am experiencing the same problem in France. Apparently it comes from the cyanogen mode (wether it is version 404, 418 or 4.10.1). When I install it everything's fine for a few hours and then the E/G/3G disappears most of the time, just showing (less than 1sec) every now and then. I can call, text but no mms/web/market dl ...
I tried a backup, wipe and reboot. Everything works, but a few hours later ...
If I restore the backup it still won't get 3G...
Is the only answer to wait and see ?
Great, I just installed the "CME_DHD2_COMPACT_v1.6_CWM_ODEX_RAM" ROM and I do not have any APN entry at all.

No internet

Both before and after the ota update, my internet icon will disappear, making my phone unable too use the internet (obviously), send texts, and sometimes even not let me make our receive phone calls. Why I do not know. I am sending this message on wifi right now, because my phone has both no internet and also no radio signal. I'm at my house and my house always has full reception and I get H for the internet. If anyone can help or direct me too something I can do that would be great.
I did call tmous and they said I had the my touch internet package and switched me to general android, but this did not help my problem. Thanks

It can take up to 4 hours for any web changes to take effect. Maybe give it more time.
Also try *#*#4636#*#* - Phone information - and WCDMA preferred. Make sure wifi and wifi calling disabled because it will keep it at GSM only.
Hope this helps.
I called and did the internet switch yesterday morning. As for that stat number thing, after I pressed it everything came back on. Don't know if it was coincidence or not.
Will have to check again when out happens. What early am I looking for?

I'm having the exact same problem. In my house I can get fair hspa+ 2-4 bars, 3G who nows as we don't have a 3G notification icon. Edge when it works is 4-5 bars. My wife has the Blackberry Bold also from T-Mobile and she has a solid 3G all the time.
I already changed my device once and the new one now 2 days old has the same issues. It is really starting to annoy me as many times I get ready to use the internet and I just have a signal bars with nothing to the left and internet and email are not working. This also means my email does not sync up properly when the connection is lost.
I'm going to try and spend some time in another area and see if the problem is the same. If so I might have to give up on this device, I hate to as I really like it.
Unfortunately being in different areas does not make a difference. I love this phone as well but this is very aggravating. What causes this to happen? No other htc phone I have used or friends have used have this problem.

Sorry I am having a hard time understanding what you are asking.
You go to the the dialpad on your phone. Enter *#*#4636#*#*
As soon as you do this it will bring up a menu. Tap on "Phone Information"
Then at the bottom you will see a dropdown box under "Set preferred network type:"
Set this to WCDMA preferred. Then hit the back button (the back arrow).
You will see that your signal has been disabled for a second, then will turn back on. Also if you can note down what it was set to before you changed it to WCDMA preferred and post that here.
Like I said this can only be done when wifi and wifi calling are disabled.
Hope I was a little more clear this time.
Well I may have to eat my words. It might be my location or just crappy T-Mobile service that is varying. I put my wifes phone in the same part of the house side by side of mine and trying to surf the web it dropped out too. Lost the 3G and got a SOS for signal bars. Unlike my G2 it recovered fairly quickly as the reception came back. My G2 has been at a loss for internet for over a hour before.
I'm still going to try some comparisons in some different ares and I hope it is just my area.
@bishybob wcdma prefered is checked.

I switch apns all the time. In quicksettings I use the apn switch but leave it on apn.droid instead of disabled (which actually DOES disable it) if I switch to apn.droid then it actually changes the way I connect to tmo... epc.tmobile.apndroid.com...(instead of epc.tmobile.com) I swear I get faster speeds.

That's odd. I've had JL5 since a few days after release and haven't had a single issue with data until today. I see full bars, data activity doesn't do anything except the green "out" arrow flashes but nothing comes in. I just disabled Data network and re-enabled it and now it's worked fine..
Please use proper language when making a thread. I modified the title of this thread because of it. Thanks.
I have similar happen on JL5, after a day or two (or an unknown set of actions). I will no longer be able to receive calls, but will get the VM alerts and be able to dial out. Data connection will then be hit/miss. I put the phone in airplane mode and take it off airplane mode and it works again.

Yeah, its a known froyo bug,it was even brought up several times in google's forum for the nexus one. it wasn't an issue in 2.1,but 2.2 (pretty much every build I've ever used on the G1,N1,vibrant,HD2,and Intercept) has the issue.
i think my phone's radio is broken.. now it doesnt switch between edge and 3G anymore.. stays on 3G
but download speed is really slow..painfully slow.. i was actually happy to get 3G in my room, but it's actually broken? LOL
i installed the signal app by imperial.. it stays on H - 93 dbm with the 3G symbol on the signal bar and consistent 3/4 bars.. what the hell..
hmmm..
maybe tmo 3g coverage has gotten better? but download speed is slow.. my phone may be broken.. ughhh

im using the stock j16.. i already reset my phone, even reverted to stock jfd and flash via kies last night.. same issue
i haven't even dropped my phone at all.. not a bad drop at least..
I have the same problem on JL5. I just flashed Nero V3 this weekend as my first Froyo rom and I see today I cannot get online at work where 3G is iffy. If i switch it manually to GSM, then data works.
I actually flashed a custom rom hoping to fix an issue like this.
Back on stock my network data just stopped while browsing web pages or anything really. It would give the outgoing arrows but nothing would come back. After about 30 minutes or so it would start working again for a while.
Flashed to nero but it's still as prevalent as ever (maybe for a different reason now lol). Not sure if it's the phone or Tmo's network anymore, but it's not too big of an issue for me so I just have to remember to activate wifi if I need constant data for any period.
I have it set to GSM only because I don't live in a 3G area...

Poll: Wifi Calling Error, Is yours working?

My wifi calling was working perfectly fine until just a couple days ago. All of a sudden it will not connect to the same network it had been working on, I'm on a stock Tmobile G2, no root or anything. After googling around and searching these forums I've seen its a pretty widespread issue and is even occuring on the myTouch 4g. This leads me to believe its something on Tmobile's network as I don't think all of a sudden our various ISPs started blocking something that wasn't blocked before.
I'm getting the message W006.25 ISP network error, and occasionally I've got W006.15 ISP network error. Sometimes, but less often, i will get the message to register on Tmobile's network for the wifi calling. When I hit register, the app closes and if I try to open it again it will close automatically in about 2 seconds.
I've tried clearing my wifi calling app data then doing a power off and battery pull, I've uninstalled all apps/widgets that I added around the time it stopped working (nearly back to stock). No one has found a solution or even really the source of this problem. People have even tried a factory reset with no luck. Oh yea, also tried all the different wifi sleep settings and wifi calling connection preferences.
So... respond to the poll and post your details; ROM, ISP, location, time frame of working / not-working, etc...
ROM: Stock Tmobile G2
ISP: AT&T DSL (I'm pretty sure, renting a house at college right now though)
Location: Orlando, FL
Time Frame: working from about 12/23/2010 until 1/20/2011

Mine is working:
ROM: Stock ROM
ISP: RCN Cable
Location: Lehigh Valley, PA
Time Frames: Working constantly - no issues anytime in this area (only place I use it, and don't even need it)
FYI: I will give you a heads up, I work for said company above and there has been some known issues with Wifi Calling with that specific error you mentioned. It could be a location based issue in your area or there could be a global issue affections subscribers based on their connection type/SIM type/ETC...
If it continues, I'd call and ask them to check your area for a 7 to 10 mile radius for issues and also have them check on that error.
I've had that issue before, when i forgot to remove my static IP i had set for my work's wifi. It basically means it can't get to the server. its either a problem on your phone (a static IP that doesn't have access to the outside world) or the connection is being blocked enroute to their servers. make sure you don't have any special DNS settings or anything that could interfere.

I was able to login to the router and change the DNS settings as recommended in the tmobile support forums, still no luck. The router didn't have any option to allow fragmented packets which seemed like it had better success as far as fixing it for others. I don't think ill have much luck with calling the ISP since I'm renting the house for college. Maybe try hooking up my own router in place of the provided one?

Wifi calling and texting works for me. However, one thing i do notice is that text messages that exceed 1 text (160 chars) fail to send. Has anyone else noticed that or is it just me? When i find the time i plan on restoring my stock ROM to verify if the problem persists.

It errors out for me once in a while but if I clear data on the wifi app and reboot the phone it works fine. Doesn't matter if I use enom, virtuous, or stock.

Int'l Note with Straight Talk BYOD - how STABLE is your DATA connection?

A quick background:
- I have an International Note - factory unlocked
- I signed up with Straight Talk few days ago - ordered the AT&T SIM Card
- Voice, text messaging and MMS works
- I am in Northern California
Problem is, the data connection is very UNSTABLE. I will have full bar, can browse the web and then.... BOOM! Suddenly no data, even though my phone show 3G and full bar. The only fix? Turn ON Airplane Mode, Turn it OFF or REBOOT, which is clunky and time consuming at best, especially when you are out and about.
This is not just an annoyance, but makes the phone almost unusable since I need data for my Exchange email, Google Navigation, etc. I DO NOT use the Note for tethering.
My APN is as folllow:
APN 1...
Name: Internet
APN: att.mvno
APN type: internet
APN type: default
APN 2...
Name: MMS
APN: att.mvno
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: proxy.mvno.tracfone.com
MMS port: 80
APN type: mms
Fast Dormancy: Disabled
For those who use Straight Talk, could you tell me:
1). If you experiences the above
2). Where you are at
3). What APN do you use
4). Do you enable "Fast Dormancy"?
I am trying to figure it out if this is my Note or just ST flaking in my area.
I had the same problem with fast dormancy disabled so ok re-enabled it and it has been fine since.

Same issues here with an att sim and tried both single apn settings that came with straight talk and the two separate ones as you have. Also tried both fast dormancy enabled and disabled with same sketchy results. My location is Milwaukee, WI. Seems prone to disconnect right right after I connect to the market. Turning on and off the data connection re-establishes the connection though.

That's interesting... it seems that I have to ENABLE Fast Dormancy for a stable data connection. I will try that and will update here.
I wonder if it has something to do with which tower I am connecting to...
Its really odd because everywhere I read AT&T doesnt support fast dormancy..
I still think its something at&t does to prepaid because my gf's SGS2 doesnt have that problem and I dont seem to notice it when I used her sim card..I'm on ICS and theres no way to turn fast dormancy off or on.

Yeah, I was thinking maybe some areas had upgraded equipment that supports it or something? Like you one of the first things I did was disable it per the instructions in the ST thread and never tried with it enabled until recently just out of curiosity.

I turned ON Fast Dormancy and I was getting even unstable data, so I turned it OFF.
I was driving to another city today for lunch and I noticed my data connection was pretty stable. I had been doing a lot of testing: Google Maps, Email, Pulse News app, etc.
However, one thing is consistent: everytime I open Android Market (Google Play now), it will load UP until where I want to DOWNLOAD an APP (for testing - small apps - less than 2 Mb), the data connection shuts off....same problem as what I posted above.
I tried doing so about 4 times in 3 different location: home, work and lunch place, each location is about 5 miles apart. Same results.
Is Straight Talk monitoring and BLOCKING app download?
I'm using straight talk on my gf's S2 with tethering and its blazing fast (6 Mbps down and 1.1 Mbps up) and stable right now. Although I'm in Michigan atm (heading to California tomorrow). I plan to switch from AT&T's price gouging plan to straight talk when I get back so I'll let you guys know how it is in Modesto.
I have the same issue with market and sporadically, otherwise.
I don't think this is a straight talk thing. It doesn't make sense.

Even when my data connection used to be flaky with Fast Dormancy disabled before I re-enabled it, I was always able to install & update apps from the Market. The weird thing is that it was pretty much only NON-Google apps that gave me problems with the data dropping out.
I would call ST Tech Support tomorrow if I were you and see if they can check your account and stuff.

I am in Northern California as well, Fremont to be exact. I have not noticed any problems with data while out and about here. I use the exact setting as posted in post 1 in this thread.
While at home, I just turned off wifi, and tried to connect to the Play store, No Connection - Retry. So I turned on/off Flight Mode, went back to the Play store, and was able to download a couple of things no problem.
This is pretty the same thing that would happen to me on my last Android phone, so maybe it is more of a Android thing than it is a Straight Talk thing.
Other than this, my Straight Talk data connection seems to be fine when I'm out and about.

Thanks for the info. So it seems more of Android OS problem.
The thing that intrigued me is that this issue doesn't happen to my 3 other Android phone, which are running on At&t, Verizon and Virgin Mobile.

Same here. I've been using nothing but Android since the G1 and I've never had these issues until the Note on ST, so I don't think that it's an Android OS issue UNLESS Samsung has a bug in the OS on the Note.
When I have time I'll do a search in the Galaxy Nexus forum or something to see if there are any problems with people on ST there...
