This is a Step-by-Step fool proof guide to getting your T-Mobile myTouch 3g (32b) back to factory firmware with the ability to once again receive all official T-Mobile OTA (Over-The-Air) Updates.
*Note* There are two files named updated.zip that are both needed. We will keep them seperated by two folders needed at two totally different steps during installattion. The fisrt gets us back to 1.6 and the other gets us the newer radios for1.6...and Yes it works. Files are official....Nay-Sayers! LOL
*Note*
Optional SD Card Format
From the settings menu of the phone, Scroll down to "SD Card & phone storage." Press "Unmount SD Card." Next press "Format SD card." If you go this route you will have to reinstall all media you had on the SD Card, i.e. pics, music...etc
STEP 1
Create a Folder named ANDROID on the desktop. In that create 3 sub-folders. Name the 3 sub-folders in this order: Cupcake, Donut Update 1, Donut Update 2
STEP 2
You need a copy of SAPPIMG.img. It puts the phone back to the "Cupcake" or 1.5 Firmware Version.
Download it from:
http://www.mediafire.com/?yezotmjyuww
Save it in the Cupcake folder you just created.
STEP 3
Plug your phone into your PC and click "USB Connected" on the Notification Tab, then mount image. Your PC can now read and write to your SD Card. Find your downloaded copy of SAPPING.img and copy it to your SD Card. Unmount, unplug and power off your phone.
STEP 4
Reboot phone into boot mode by holding down volume down key while pressing the power key. It should boot into HBOOT and automatically run the SAPPIMG.img you just copied onto the SD card Click. Follow the onscreen instructions to initiate the automated update. Use trackball to accept.
If it did not boot to HBOOT, read the screen and do what it says to "Reboot to HBOOT." From there everything else should once again be automated. Follow the onscreen instructions to initiate the automated update. Use trackball to accept. Once the update is done and it says "Installation Complete," reboot by pressing Home and Back buttons together.
STEP 5Once rebooted, do the initial setup. Once setup is complete, plug the phone back into the PC and re-mount the SD Card. It is safe to delete the SAPPIMG.img file from the SD Card now. You can also check to make sure the Firmware Version 1.5 is correct and installed by going to Settings-> About phone.
STEP 6You need to Download the second file needed named update.zip. It gets us back to Android 1.6
Download it from:
http://www.mediafire.com/?t3zlwdzzqqx
Save it in Donut Update 1 folder. Once download is complete, copy the file update.zip to the SD Card like before. Unmount, unplug, and power off the phone.
STEP 7Reboot the phone into recovery mode by this time holding down the Home and Power buttons together this time. A picture with tirangle and phone will show press Home and Power again to get to the actual recovery screen. You now have 2 options to apply this update...either or:
*Note* Use trackball to navigate the cursor in this new menu
1. Apply update.zip from SD Card. This option will leave all user data that you previously put on the phone after the SAPPIMG install, i.e. Contacts, Apps, Settings...etc.
2. Wipe/Factory reset. This option will completely remove all user data from the phone. A clean slate if you will. If you choose this option, when the reset finishes, Make sure you do Option 1 Apply update.zip from SD Card. Once the update is done and it says "Installation Complete," reboot by pressing Home and Back buttons together.
STEP 8
Once rebooted, if you chose option 2 in the previous step you have to redo the initial setup. Plug the phone back into the PC and re-mount the SD Card. It is safe to delete the update.zip from the phone now. You can also check to make sure the Firmware Version 1.6 is correct and installed by going to Settings-> About phone.
STEP 9
You need to Download the third file needed named update.zip. It gets us back the latest radios.
Download it from:
http://www.mediafire.com/?ojnnyrjzneg
Save it in Donut Update 2 folder. Once download is complete, copy the file update.zip to the SD Card like before. Unmount, unplug, and power off the phone.
STEP 10 = Finale
Reboot the phone into recovery mode by this time holding down the Home and Power buttons together this time.
That is it!
Now you are good to go and are waitng for T-Mobile and their 2.0 or whatever other goodies they decide to throw or not to throw our way.
Didn't work for me. Step 4 did not install. Instead, it said "invalid signature"
Why was this posted? There are about a thousand other threads regarding how to 'unroot' your phone to factory defaults.

So go look at another post! Just that simple.
once you get to cupcake you can just wait a couple hours then you will get an ota update to update to doughnut and the newest radio so i dont see the point in doing all of this work when just isntall cupcake and wait
Great thread! This is much better than waiting for the ota updates!
no ota to 1.6
I have been on 1.5 for 24hrs and no ota back yo 1.6?
Then follow the steps to manually flash the updates from here that is what o did.
Technically I think the updates are only if you have internet with tmobile and can take up to 72 hours.

Never took me more than 24 hours.
Restoring data with mybackup or titanium backup can actually prevent the update from installing, so if you're not getting it, do a factory reset and don't install anything that isn't from the market until you've received your update.
Does this method also remove the Recovery?
Can I install just the stock rom but keep my recovery? If I do this, will it disable my ability to flash custom roms without re-exploiting the phone?
Thanks phate
I just did this but now I'm stuck at the green android welcome screen with no data service and I'm out of the country. Am I pretty much ****ed? Four corners trick doesn't seem to work. Tried it like a hundred times.
Well this did not work out so well.
Everything seemed to go fine. After the last step, rebooted the phone, and it came up with a picture of a box with an arrow, so I just let it sit there. Came back an hour or so later and the screen was off. No charging light or anything.
Pressed power button and nothing. Tried everything I can think of. So do you think I bricked the phone some how or did the phone just die.
Oh, Battery was fully charged, and it was plugged in while doing the downgrade from CM 6 back to stock.

If the phone refuses to boot you could always apply sappimg.nbh again and this time just let it download 1.6 ota. It only takes about a day or so.

Phone won't power on or anything. When plugged in, there is no charging light.
It's just DEAD.
Edit: I've tried two other batteries and another charger also.
Anyone who has used this method to downgrade, or someone using stock firmware, could you enter the phone information menu by dialing *#*#info#*#* tell me what call redirect says, true or false? I want to verify something.

Ok, downgraded two phones, one worked ok, the other I guess is bricked.
anyways on the one that worked, Call Redirect: false
And can anyone help with the other phone?
when plugged in to either computer or A/C, there is no charge light,
read a couple posts above for more info on the problem I am having.

I have successfully flashed my Sprint THC hero with no problems.
My issue though is flashing the phone to 2.1d. i can't for the life of me follow these directions and I am really stumped on the process of doing a nandroid and flashing the ROM.
I downloaded the nandroid from this site but not sure where I put the directory with the files at. Can anyone break this process down into "ejpyle terminology"?
My problems are:
- where to copy the nandroid directory
- where to put the 2.1d ROM
- do i need this busybox that everyone is talking about?
Successfully flashed what? And what method.
If you mean you successfully ROOTED your Phone then huzzah, that's step one complete.
Part of the rooting process should include putting a recovery image on the phone. If you did that correctly then do this, power off the phone.hold down the home button and power it back up. In a few seconds you should boot into a recovery menu with options to do a nandroid backup/restore turn on the usb connection to move files to the phone from your pc, and flashing a zip. If you don't have this recovery menu then you need to install it.
I don't think you have downloaded a Nandroid, I think you have downloaded an "update.zip" as we so affectionitly call them around here. This is a term used from the first set of recovery tools we had, where we had to rename update files update.zip to be loaded. Thankfully the recovery software has been updated to let us store and use multiple files.
So you probable have fresh-cdma-hero-2.0d.zip downloaded.
Plug your phone into USB and set it to Mount SD Card or what ever it says in 1.5
Copy this file to the root of the sdcard. don't put it in to any folders just F:\ or whatever the drive letter is.
THEN
Unmount the sdcard or turn off the disk drive mode (Cant remember what 1.5 calls it)
THEN
Power off the phone.
Power the phone back on whilst holding the home key. When you feel the vibration (let your girl hold it if she wants ROFL) let go and it will boot into recovery.
THEN
Go to Wipe...do Factory Reset
THEN
Wipe dalvik
THEN
Go back to Flash Update from SDcard
Select the update file above and hit the home key to flash it.
The phone SHOULD install and go back to the main screen of recovery.
THEN select
Reboot
THEN
Wait a hell of a long time 10+ minutes is NOT uncommon (it has to rebuild dalvik and other stuff)
THEN
When the phone boots hit Always Allow for the memory settings app.
THEN
Setup all your google info again.....
THEN
You should be good to go
AND DEN????????
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
EDIT:
I am SURE that I left a step out above, just go with the flow and wipe everything under the wipe menu. It's laid out so a monkey can do this stuff...hence the reason I am able to.

There is no best one. The 2.1 ROMS are all very stable. Just avoid the ones that say {DEV} in the thread title because they are under development and likely have lots of stuff broken in them.
Decide what you want for yourself, beauty, speed, both? A good hint is to look for the ROM threads that have the most pages attached to them these are the ROMS that have the most discussion and help within them.

Because you too seem like a decent person I will share this with you....
I followed a thread on here at the beginning of march to install a ROM and the directions (which I followed exact) bricked my phone. I spent hours reading up on this website to find out after the fact that the RUU might have a bug and some users will have issues. With that said, I decided to ask questions. This site has a lot of cleanup going on (no disrespect to anyone here as you are all VERY intelligent) and I do not think that someone as myself would be comfortable just "searching" for the answer without asking questions first with respect to the experience we have had in the past.

So you have gotten me curious now, where did you pick up that file at?
My only guess is that someone has posted a nandroid of their device and zipped it. Most of the Rom downloads are ROMNAME.zip....
You can always try to load it, it won't load if its not setup properly inside for a rom.
And about your going back to 1.5 to update to sprints 2.1:
IF YOU UPDATE TO SPRINTS OTA 2.1 UPDATE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ROOT AGAIN UNTIL SOMEONE FINDS ANOTHER EXPLOIT!!! WHICH COULD BE NEVER!!

Ok, so this leads me to another question. Where is the thread that links to this download?
The reason I am worried about this file now that I see it:
It's only 942kb - WAY to small for a rom or nandroid.

My EVO doesn't charge anymore. Guess my port got broken. My phone is rooted, and I dont have PC syncing capabilities. Is there a way to restore my phone back to the stock sprint rom so i can take it in for service or get a new phone? Does a hard reset restore the stock sprint rom? Im running the MIUI rom As u can tell im sort of a newb
Find a PC36IMG file of a stock, unrooted ROM and flash it through the bootloader.
Get a cheap standalone battery charger on ebay. While you're at it, get a microSD card adapter that you can load into a SD card reader. Charge your battery that way since the micro-usb doesn't work. Pull out your microSD card from the phone and load into adapter. Put an RUU file onto the microsd through your comp then put the microsd back into phone with the charged battery and you should be back to stock.
Another option, just bring to Sprint store and have them fix the micro-usb port. Their policy has changed and they should repair your phone even if it's rooted.
Make sure you have a fully charged battery before going back to stock. Download the unrevoked s-on tool from the unrevoked website, along with the most recent RUU in PC36IMG.zip form. Make sure that the RUU is named correctly - all caps, only one zip at the end. You will not need to add .zip to the end in the process of renaming.
Boot the phone into recovery & flash the s-on zip. Power the phone down and boot into the bootloader via volume down + power buttons. Make sure it says "Ship S-on" at the top. The phone will scan and find the RUU (as long as it's on the root of the card and named correctly), then ask you to update. Choose yes, then wait for it to flash. When it's done, choose yes when it asks you to reboot and you'll be good to go.
While Sprint will fix rooted phones with hardware problems, a broken port is not fixable. You also don't want them flagging your account. You will have to get a new phone, so you can toss any nandroid backups - do not attempt to restore them on your new phone. While it may be possible, you don't want to risk messing up your wimax... along with other things. You can restore user apps with Titanium Backup, but restoring system settings is probably a bad idea. Good luck!

I had the same problem you had. This method worked best for me.
where do i get the most recent RUU in PC36IMG.zip form? I have the stock sprint radio file but its exe.
"RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.exe"
Do i rename this to PC36IMG.zip or do i need to download something else.
edit:
Or i download this file and rename to PC36IMG.zip?
PC36IMG_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.26.651.6_Radio_2.15.00.07.28_NV_1.40_release_140444-signed.zip
Use the one I'm going to link you to. Rename it to PC36IMG.zip, leave the .zip intact - don't add it again. Then follow the directions I posted earlier.

ok thanks!
Another thing for future refrence . I personally keep a folder on my SD card named "Emergency restore" Just in case . It contains the PC36IMG.zip and the Unrevoked S-on tool . Granted in the event the screen was broken or something to that extent and I still had some control over the phone I can still restore back to stock if I am away from my computer at home . Just an idea
ok i turned on the s-on via the "unrevoked-forever-son" tool. I put the image into the sdcard root and it checked the zip file but it didnt ask me to update
loading...PC36D1AG.zip.....no image
loading...PC36D1AG.nbh .....no image or wrong image
then it loads the PC36IMG.zip and checks it, but no update.
Whats wrong?
@SouthernEvo, thats a good idea, thanks
Try downloading again, then booting into the bootloader and letting it scan. You can always try letting the bootloader scan your current one again as well. It doesn't say "no image or wrong image", correct?
I almost recommended running an RUU from your computer, but you can't connect... duh. If it still won't work after redownloading, try a different one.

im downloading another RUU file. Hopefully it may work. As it looks, my phone is already running the latest. Idk...i actually dont know wth im talking about anymore lol
EDIT: Figured out it was my SD card causing the problems. Switched to the stock 8gb card and now it works. Flashed back to Stock. New phone comes Friday
You know the guy I'm talking about: while he's sitting in the VD clinic with an itchy crotch, he's praying to God: "Oh God, please don't let it be herpes. If it's not herpes I swear I won't visit another whorehouse as long as I live."
Then, as soon as the doctor announces that he's just got a case of jock itch and he should put some anti-fungal on it, the guy runs to the whorehouse to celebrate....
Because, see, just a few days ago I semi-bricked my Evo running after a failed Unrevoked. Not sure why it failed, but the phone would lock up every 15 seconds. So I flashed a stock image to repair the damage, and then a newer one, and wound up with a phone that worked except it wouldn't read the SD card or USB port (charging would only occur if the phone was turned off).
So as I was working my way through the fix I kept promising myself that if I got it fixed I'd just keep it stock unrooted and be happy with it.
Then, thanks to the good fold here, I managed to get the device running again the way it should. Wheeew, I thought, I'm happy now.
But... of course... it only took a few hours before the "root" itch hit me again. Fixing the semi-brick issue required installing z4root, and that app gave me a taste of da root acces... and ooooh did it taste goooood! Problem with z4root, though is that you're still s-on, and it's my understanding that if you're s-on and take the new GB update, you're SOL (at least for the time being). And I wanted to be s-off for the peace of mind it offered.
So my desire for real permanent root got the better of me. I decided that the reason unrevoked had failed for me the first time probably had something to do with all the cr*p I had installed on my phone. So I used Titanium backup along with z4root to back up the stuff I'd installed since getting my phone back and re-flashed the stock 2.2 image that had worked for me, and started with afresh phone.
Tried unrevoked one more time and... viola! It worked!!!
I'm happy now... a happy, unrepentant sinner!
Anyway, if you've read through all this: bless you.
I do have a couple of questions:
1) Am I correct that being s-off means I can now install unsigned ROMs the same way I installed the stock image I am on? (basically, rename it PC36IMG.zip, put it on the root of the SD card and boot into the bootloader and let it install)?
2) do I need to run "unrevoked forever"? I'm not clear on this. Getting some conflicting information from searching. My best guess, from what I've read, is that the latest unrevoked includes all the stuff that unrevoked forever does.
-Is blessed-
1. You don't need to make a PC36IMG to flash a rom; just download the file, then backup your current rom, do a full wipe, then flash the rom zip
2. You don't need to flash the forever zip; it was used to give you nand unlock -s-off- in the older versions of unrevoked, and was incorporated into the new one.
And keep applying that jock itch.
And once you flash a couple roms, you will get the itch to start using the kitchen and playing with your own custom rom, its only a matter of time, lol
I probably try two a week now. Its amazing how much work these guys do.
Unrevoked forever is incorporated in Unrevoked now. So need for that.
Also, you dont flash them in the bootloader. Boot into the bootloader, then use volume down to go down to the option that says "recovery" then use the power button to select. It will boot into recovery menu which should have a list of options, go down to flash zip from sdcard, then select zip from sdcard. It will show you a list of everything on your sdcard. Navigate to wherever your rom .zip file is that you downloaded and select it. It will ask you if you want to flash, select yes.
PS dont forget to wipe before you flash. ("Wipe all user data/factory reset" option when your in recovery.)

OK, so that's pretty much the same as with the Nook flashing Phiremod (a Cyanogenmod variant).
ive been seeing enough and more posts asking about flashing OxygenOS. I'll try and explain in simple terms. read carefully and only then try it.
I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU SPOIL YOUR DEVICES. YOU ARE DOING THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!
if you have a custom recovery skip to step 7
1. Your devices needs a custom recovery. to install one you need to be rooted. to root u need an unlocked bootloader. OnePlus claims that you wont loose warranty on rooting and unlocking so your safe there unless u do something wrong. so be cautious.
2.for unlocking rooting and flashing i recommend using Bacon Root Toolkit. even though i know to do it the Oldschool way. this is much more simple and u really cant go wrong with the toolkit its NoobFriendly. download the toolkit from the following link and install it along with the drivers. http://www.wugfresh.com/brt/
3. once installed choose the version of CM you are running. the toolkit will automatically download all required files. once in u will have to set up the drivers. the instructions for that are well explained in the toolkit please follow it there.
4. after the drivers are set up first u need to unlock. REMEMBER UNLOCKING WILL CLEAR ALL DATA!. so backup all required data.for the internal SD card u can connect the phone to the computer as an MTP device and copydata, for the apps you can backup using Helium and copy the helium folder to the computer. please do not post comments telling that you lost all data there is NO WAY to recover that data once you unlock.
5.press UNLOCK in the toolkit, it will guide you through the process. after unlock when you switch on the phone itll be as good as new you will have to go through the procedure of logging into google etc. once done head over to settings enable developer options and tick ADB. DONT FORGET TO DO THIS
6. Now you need to root your device. by default the toolkit uses SUPERSU to root and TWRP as custom recovery its perfectly fine unless you intend on changing it later on stick to these two. remember to tick CUSTOM RECOVERY under the root option. press root and follow the steps. it pretty much does everything u jut have to keep confirming.
7. Hoping that right now your rooted and have a custom recovery, if not please go through the previous steps.
now we need to download the oxygenOS head over to the forum and download or use this link https://oneplus.net/oxygenos, once downloaded check the size it should be 705MB incase its not the download again may be the download got corrupted.
8. IMPORTANT STEP FOR NEWBIES
once u download u have ONE .zip file named "oxygenos_1.0.0.zip" extract that file and u will get a folder named "oxygenos_1.0.0" leave it there DONT EXTRACT ANY FURTHER!. the folder will contain two files "oxygen_1.0.0_flashable.zip" "oxygen_1.0.0_flashable.md5" leave them as they are. preferably copy this folder containing the two files to the root of the phone. in simple terms put it in your phone memory without putting it into any other folder.
9. Now you have your files ready you need to head over to the recovery. two ways of doing it. you can go to settings developer options and tick advance reboot. now when u press reboot u get an option to reboot recovery and bootloader. choose recovery.
another way of getting to recovery is shut down the phone hold the buttons POWER+VOLUME DOWN once the phone comes on leave the power button and hold VOLUME DOWN till the recovery shows up.
10. Once your in TWRP u have an option to backup your rom. You could do this as a precaution if anything goes wrong u can restore from this backup file. fro backing up press backup and choose the partitions you want to backup and swipe to backup. the backup should be around 2-3gb i think. once backed up copy the file from the TWRP folder on your phone to the computer.
11. since you are changing the ROM completely you need to factory reset once before flashing. in TWRP press WIPE and swipe to factory reset. and go back to home dont reboot device.
12. FLASHING THE ROM: in TWRP press install in the list find the folder oxygenos_1.0.0. in that folder click on the file "oxygen_1.0.0_flashable.zip" and then swipe to flash. the flashing can take a while dont do anything while its in progress.
13.once flashed reboot system. the first reboot will take time let it happen do not get worried and try restarting just let it take its time it has to set up everything for u.
14. Now you should be having OXYGEN OS... use it appreciate it rather than criticizing it. incase u feel like customizing it try out XPOSED. though it is still in testing for L it shouldnt be too buggy. gravityBox is compatible with lollipop.
15. incase you feel like going back to CM.. head over to the toolkit connect the phone (remember to enable ADB) doesnt matter which build u set. press FLASH STOCK+UNROOT choose the CM build you want and let it do its work. follow the instructions.
some may point out that the toolkit has an option to flash the rom as well. yes it does but i wont dive into that now. this method is simple enough. but if u know how to do it that way u sure can
PS: KEEP YOU BATTERY FULLY CHARGED WHILE DOING ALL THIS. INCASE THE PHONE DIES WHILE FLASHING ITLL BE BRICKED.
please correct me if i went wrong anywhere.
hope this helps.

There is absolutely no need for this thread - it's all been covered before. Flashing OOS is no different to any other custom ROM.
You text/formatting is abysmal. You recommend using the toolkit, WTF? This device is the easiest ever created for unlocking/rooting and using a toolkit is a BAD idea as if it goes wrong you will end up confused and not knowing what to do next. Anyone who can't unlock / root / flash TWRP on this device should not be attempting to install a custom ROM anyway.
What you have posted is actually more confusing for a 'noobie' than what is already out there, I'd suggest this thread should probably be deleted and people with questions can simply search and find the useful instructions which already exist.
