After I finally got back into recovery from a flash that did not work like it was supposed to I restored the backup I had made and now all I get is the first screen
Vibrant
Samsung
I fouled up bad I am sure... have the phone less that 48 hours and I think i bricked it... What can I do now to get this thing back to factory so I can start over and hopefully not mess up this time?
I assume you went from froyo, to an eclair backup.
You will need to ODIN back. This can be found in the Dev Section Bible.
Once you ODIN back to stock JFD.... once you are on JFD, you can follow the steps in my noob guide to get on a custom rom correctly.
Hope it helps.
Good news is: You did NOT brick your phone, you got it stuck in a boot loop, something did not match from what was on it and whatever you flashed.
Here is a good way to get back to stock and start over, let me know if you make it OK.
Link: http://androidspin.com/2010/08/09/how-to-restore-or-recover-your-samsung-vibrant/
Good luck, just follow carefully and will be smooth and easy.
OK, So I finally got the phone to go to Download mode and I have odin, but before I make it worse. which files do I need and/or which specific thread will walk me through Odin. I found this site while waiting for a response *hope posting outside link is not against rules* http://factoidz.com/how-to-use-odin-to-flash-your-samsung-galaxy-s/
Ok i Brickeedd Mines Too yesterday...because i lik to do thinqs and learn more and moree...i juxx learnedd how to fix it.....if yuh brickdd it.....gett dhe odin shyt on your computer aloq with all the files that it needs....afta yuh got the files...........make sure yuh fone is of......
1...hold volume up and volume down>>both a the same time
2....conect the USB Cablee.....yuhhh now in download mode.....so go to odin and yuh should know what to do....
remember jusst preess volume up and volume down....dont preess power...
the pit and tar files in the link from androidspin are what you want. Not sure what version of ODIN they are using, but you want to make sure it's the latest ODIN version. I placed a link to it in the noob guide just in case. You can try with the version you have, just know if it hangs up, get the newest version.

Great, I am downloading the tar file they linked now and the version of odin i got was i think from your thread it says 1.7 when its open.
Right now I have it open and it sees the phone. I have the pit file selected just waiting on tar to finish .. abut 30% done on this crappy free wifi my town provides.

Actually, I would not touch those buttons.
OK, all files finished and I followed the steps on AndroidSPIN but now I have conflicting instructions.
Guide says only use * Auto Reboot and * F. Reset Time
s15274n said use Re-Partition too... So this is what I have so far but Im not clicking anything till I verify It looks right to be sure I dont foul it up more.

I have used the Odin that came from Androspin and that is why I screamed to uncheck the third checkbox "re-partition" because for some reason the first time you start it, it is checked. STRICTLY: use only the two check boxes the guide mentions, if not you'll have issues as others have experience.
So it has been sitting for almost 15 min saying the same thing

did you uncheck re-partition before start?
yes.
I found another site where it said that you just had to put the phone back into download mode that sometimes when that happens its because something didnt connect right. I did that , closed odin with task manager, took out the battery and restarted the process. this time it worked. it looks like im back on stock again, at least it all looks right and seems to work. I was able to redownload all my apps, just have to start over from scratch.
My question now is where do I find the stock 2.2 update. Maybe it would be better to get to 2.2 stock before I start messing around with 2.2 roms and stuff again.
No, don’t go to stock Froyo. It's full of bugs and is a nightmare. Let me get back to my computer and i'll show you where to go.

After tremendous searching and asking for help from members.. I got all these instructions which I am compiling for myself and others who might need it.
Disclaimer: I have tried these instructions as it is and worked fine for me. Now I have GPS lock in <5secs and with a accuracy of 5-10m. Tried it atleast 5-6 times at different times and still seem to work fine, unlike while I was on 2.1 before. Feel free to suggest any modifications or corrections.
Assumptions:
You have used OTA update.zip to go to Froyo and have no GPS at all
You are on windows machine
You have guts to flash back to older firmware and not brick your unit like other did (possibly restored too)
Atleast I am not rooted before or after update. Not sure how thats gonna affect this process.
Files needed (PC only)
DI18 .tar.md5
http://www.multiupload.com/X9AB1U56JV
odin & pit from the wiki link
http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/noobnl/Odin3+v1.61andepic.pit.zip
Step1: ODIN [worked perfectly, had to install samsung drivers]
1. Open odin
2. Put your phone in download mode (Shut it off, wait for lights to all go out, then hold 1 on the keyboard while powering up)
3. connect phone (you should see odin put a Com4 or something like that in the first box. The actual number is NOT important what is important is something popped up there when you connected your device, meaning ODIN can see it)
4. Select the victory_8G_100528.pit on the right in the pit section. Some say pit is needed..some say not needed. I am going to put it in and try first.
5. In the PDA Section you place either the full Stock tar (SPH-D700-****-8Gb-REL.tar around 300mb~) for a full wipe and full return to stock. This is what you downloaded from above multiupload.com link. Its about 255 mb.
6. Hit start. It will do its thing. Doesn't take long you can see the progress bar. If it sits on File Analysis for longer than 30 seconds its not going to happen. See the troubleshoot section below.
7. Device should reboot and should be done.
Step 2: GPS LOCK[ Got instant lock]
Fire up Google Maps app and wait for it to lock your location.
If your GPS doesnt lock after sometime.. try these steps.
In your dialer, type *#1472365#
click "Setup" tab
Then:
Operation Mode: (MSBased)
Back out
Starting Mode: (Cold Start)
Back out
Session Type: (Single Fix)
Back out and reboot your phone.
Step 3: Flash back to DK28 [ not sure why we cant use update.zip as we did before for this process]
1. Download DK28 .tar file here http://www.multiupload.com/C5YEZK3WF7 <== DONT USE THIS, YOU WILL GET MD5 HASH INVALID.
Use this instead http://www.multiupload.com/A4HRBSEB7X
2. Follow the same steps as above in STEP 1 instead use the above file in the PDA section.
Note: There doesnt seem to be a pit file for this flashing. Please let me know if thats accurate.
Note2: I didnt use any pit file for this step, and it worked fine.
NOTE1: The.md5.tar seems to wipe out everything and there is no alternative
NOTE2: Some people have suggested to remove the SD card before running ODIN. I am not 100% sure.
NOTE3: You will need to get samsung drivers if ODIN doesnt recognize the phone. Also ppl are saying samsung cables are crap, so if ODIN doesnt recognize then you may have to swap out the cables.
NOTE4: If you are stuck in the download mode (yellow digging android) and you have NOT started the flashing/odin process yet, just pull the battery out and it will be normal. IF YOU STARTED THE FLASHING/ODIN PROCESS,PULLING MIGHT HOSE YOUR PHONE.

I ll keep adding as I find more info.. Hope this helps.
Thanks every one for their feedback.
PS: This is almost accurate.. I have followed them as it is and they worked for me.
Update: I followed every step to the T in the above guide and have been able to get back to froyo and gps lock successfully. Tho the first gps lock was only 60m inside the house. I will play around more and post updates.
Update 2: I get a accuracy of about 5-10 m now.
Thanks...this is what I've been waiting for. Problem I've been having is my compter or odin wont recognizes the epic. What should I do...I'm runing Windows 7 64bit
I guess you need to have samsung drivers installed.. its there somewhere in this forum.. I will update the guide.

Like to inform you guys the DK28 is not the official release. Sprint has not corrected the fix for the GPS. http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/52685#
I don't think the way you are going about this has anything to do with the problem. I think the tar file I dl on Friday had a problem as the GPS wasn't the only thing that was bad when flashing to 2.2.1.
So I decided to flash back to DI18 and then flashed the DK28 modem. I then booted into CWM and ran the latest Froyo Quantum rom. After boot my GPS locked on (outside) to within 10-15 feet in < 5 seconds (better than it has since launch day). Inside my apartment it won't lock at all, but the walls here are steel reinforced concrete so I wasn't expecting it to lock on indoors. I will add in the GPS fix (found on the Quantum thread) later tonight and see what happens.
So far the only problem I have noticed with any regularity is a FC of com.android.phone when hanging up on a phone call.

Well I dont know what the hell I did, but through the process of ODINing to di18, losing root, rerooting, GPS still not working, trying the *# thing still not working, then restoring from a nandroid that bootlooped to ODINing to dk28, then restoring again, I now have working GPS. lol
you got to think the information that was posted are for people that are freaking out. running around with there heads cut off like a chicken. best way to inform someone is to give all the facts, and if it does not work once or twice. maybe never. they can come to the relaztion there phone is not broke. maybe you have no clue who comes on the forums to find out information, but i understand your point. I went from many custom roms dk28. Ive had my wifi not work nor my gps was working as expected. got alittle tired of odining my phone, and clock working my phone. to realize there is no confirmed fix. being back to di18 everything working as expected. do not get me wrong dk28 runs much better, but i need all the atributes the phone provides wifi gps etc... Those where the only confirmed problems i have had. great props to the devs
ok i followed every step, but when hitting start on odim this came out.

I correct myself again. Indeed, it was an error in the CSC, i just tried using Odin v3 1.7 and the JPU rom and for now it seems it's working it's way through. I'll edit when it finishes to tell you the result.

Now it's working just fine.
Thanks a lot
Well I rooted my device a few months back - installed lagfix and it was working fine for months.
I am quite illiterate about these things but ive read and tried my best to understand enough to root my device.
I wanted to extend my battery life and I read that darky's mod could do the trick.
So I installed rom manager - clockworld - tried to flash darky's mod but it didn't work.. Failed to verify sig error.. While doing this I figured I replaced my original froyo in clockworld back up. Because tonight I tried a feature on lagfix to end background processes - put it to strict - hoping it would improve my battery life, well after doing this my phone couldn't function properly. It kept re-booting over and over again - not shutting downing but the processes kept doing that. I can't even get into the settings area without the phone rebooting..
So naturally I restored it and to my surprise superuser is still installed!! with my factory apps...but the problem persisted!! ..now I get a keyboard error along with the rebooting..
I want to bring it to bell but superuser is installed on it which might make them void my warranty even what it takes to reach the apps takes alot of work..
One more thing, superuser can't be uninstalled after the factory reset and it's the only third party app that remained!!
I think I may have had the same problem before. Phone froze during a Nandroid restore, and when it booted up... FC central. However...
Read the RESCUE YOUR VIBRICK guide (in the sticky thread at the top). See if you can get into download mode through the methods listed there. From download mode you can flash a completely stock build. Just read through the guide there and if you run into any problems with Odin, you can ask questions in that thread.
You mention bell in your original post. If you are using a Bell Canada Vibrant, that phone is more like the GT-I9000 than the T-Mobile Vibrant. You might want to go to that section for help. Also, try ROMs and mods specifically for the GT-I9000. The ones for the US vibrant will probably not work on your phone.
What is the model number of your phone? Yes, the I9000 forum has way more support for bell users.
It sounds as if you'll need to use Odin and flash a clean stock version. Sometimes when flashing "ghosts" can be left behind and you'll end up with the problems you see. Post you model number and I'll see if I can't give you proper links to what you need to do a true factory restore and you probably wont have to take your phone anywhere.

ExplodingBoy got the answer, you will need to odin back to stock>then root>then install RomManager and then get the correct rom designed for your phone and flash that .............then all will work beautifully.........good luck
Okay. You can get into download mode correct?
Then go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1022445 and select no bootloaders. This is the latest firmware for your phone. Looks like the firmware is split into 3 files so you'll need to extract them to your computer then in ODIN select to corresponding file for the space indicated, you'll see and use the 512 pit where its needed.
If you need the proper ODIN files read on. Then go here http://hotfile.com/dl/107607762/640950b/I9003_Odin3_v1.82.rar.html to get the latest version of Odin. And then here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475 and download the 512 pit file.
I would use the PIT512 option which will check the repartition automatically. This will give you the cleanest restore possible. All of your SD will remain intact (should), as a precaution if you have anything on your external sd that you want to save remove it. Be safe though and backup anything to your computer first.
If you need further help we can try the best we can here but you'll have a better time on the I9000 forums. Also check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=886158 for topics specific to I9000M.
Good luck.

THANK YOU MAN ..really appreciate your help and everyone who chimed in.
Now I have the latest update, and now time to root it.
Whats the best way to root from here ? and id like to install darky's rom instead of the lagfix I had previously.
Head over to the I9000 forums and find out from there. Anything here is really meant for the T959 Vibrant. I'm not sure if Darkeys is good for you as its built on the international I9000. They'll be more help over there though.
Glad it worked out for you.

Respect man, and have a good day.
A REAL TIME SUCCESSFUL ATTEMPT AT ROOTING BY A NOOB: ALL DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS HEREINUNDER:
INTRODUCTION: YOU CAN SKIP THIS PARAGRAPH IF YOU WANT: this is a detailed post...it was my recordings in realtime and so it is rather elaborate...i hope the reader puts up with my rantings...this post is basically a condensed version of the previous 58 pages...i hope i have posted one apt for the novice, which i am, and i read and read and read a little more till i was a little confident of doing this...but at every stage i felt chainfire nearby. Thanks fly to him...i dont earn much so i hope this bit would make up for it. this is more of a personalized version for the INDIAN friends and since i have an indian firmware that is all i could do...but i guess the steps are the same - please read this in conjunction with the instructions at pg. 1
Start time: 1:00 AM 6/16/2011 - well that actually does not count cause i took two days reading the forum top to bottom hmm...atleast till pg.57 which was the last
steps done until now:
1. downloaded kies 2 and had it install all the drivers.
2. connected phone for the first time to computer and kies 2 and it recognized it fine.
3. kies 2 also says that the software is uptodate.
4. the details of the versions are as follows:
Indian phone
Phone Version/Baseband = DDKE2
PDA/Kernel = XWKE8
CSE/Build No. = XWKE8
action begins:
5. a prayer to My Lord for safe rooting
6. go to pg 1 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1103399
7. since i have ke8, i had chosen to download this file [CF-Root-SGS2_XW_ODD_KE8-v4.0-CWM4.zip] from the page mentioned at s.no.6. hereinabove
8. downloaded odin3-v1.85.zip, extract and open (no installation...gasp!)
9. the file mentioned in s.no.7 is a size of 7.01 MB and contains a .tar file with the same name and and inside the .tar file is the zimage file. all extracted into one folder. [edit 1: no need to extract the zimage file now...only the .tar file is required...the zimage file is required later for removing the yellow exclamation mark]
10. put the phone in download mode (press volume down + ok key + power on). a warning about custom OS flashes. press volume up key to continue.
11. pressed volume up key. the phone says that it has entered ODIN mode. it also says the following:
a. product name: GT-i9100
b. Custom Binary Download : No
c. current binary : Samsung Official
d. it also shows the android logo (the robot - big size) and says downloading...Do not turn off target !!
12. after this i connected the phone to the computer (remember it is in download mode) and the drivers were installed again.
13. shift to odin and i saw that under ID.com, there is a yellow background box and it says 0:[COM13]. in the message box (lower left corner) it says <ID:0/013> Added!!
14. i made sure re-partition is not checked in odin.
15. clicked the start button...
16. the phone re-booted just like the thread at pg. 1 said it would and before it re-started the initial boot screen showed the yellow exclamation mark (or was it a black one with a yellow background...). nevertheless, it did reboot.
17. the following changes took place in odin:
a) the top box (right at the top) reads now as PASS! and the smaller one below that reads 0:8.
b) The box below that is the usual yellow one as mentioned above. The message box fills with 15 lines. they read as follows:
<ID:0/013> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/013> Initialzation..
<ID:0/013> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/013> Firmware update start..
<ID:0/013> zImage
<ID:0/013> NAND Write Start!!
<ID:0/013> RQT_CLOSE !!
<ID:0/013> RES OK !!
<ID:0/013> Completed..
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 1 / failed 0)
<ID:0/013> Removed!!
<ID:0/014> Added!!
<ID:0/014> Removed!!
<ID:0/012> Added!!
<ID:0/012> Removed!!
18. after reboot, go to applications - I see two icons viz. CWM (gear wheel) and superuser (skull).
19. now to check if the phone is really rooted...there was an entry by another fellow learner viz. ithehappy: his posts are at pgs. 37, 39, 39 and 40. please make sure you read it...its awesome...learnt a lot <relatively of course> from that post
20. to confirm if the phone is rooted, see if this has happened: source: pg. 38
"see if you have the superuser app installed. Also, when you start Titanium Backup it should state whether you have root access or not. You will receive an error message when you don't have root."
21. thus, as per the post, i am downloading titanium backup now and it was successfully installed. now to the actual test. another prayer to the Lord Almighty
22. SWEET!! the app viz. titanium superuser asks for root access and i just gave it and do you guys know that means...yipee i have root access...apps here i come first thing to do : gotta change that stupid lock screen
23. PS: chainfire - thanks fly out to all who posted here...there were a few unnecessary posts but then again like life just take the ones you need...the ones i needed were at pg. 37 to 41 and also at 52 is a post by geko95gek which deals with the yellow triangle at boot.
24. just switched off and restarted the phone. the boot screen shows the yellow exclamation mark. gotta work on that now.
more updates on that later...(in a few minutes)...
though i keep lurking in the boards this is the first time i have actually gone and registered <selfish me> and so i had to wait nearly an hour to make the 10 posts before i can post this there...but gotta respect policy...its for the greater good of a greater number...anyway back to business
25. in order to remove the yellow exclamation at boot, the instruction at pg. 1 says, among other things, to "Find an original Samsung signed stock kernel (preferably from the same stock firmware you have, but it's not terribly important)" now i have been searching for it in this thread itself...damn sure i saw it here...will go look for it now...will get back soon...time: 2.41 a.m.
26. back on. time is now. 3.17 (damn! half hour to find the stock kernel...see how much time i am saving for you guys he he - just a little self-indulgence). the stock kernals for all relevant firmwares are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1075278 - thanks to nobnut's post at pg. 48
27. again as mentioned before i chose the file under XWKE8 cause the Indian default i guess is that... the stock kernel is what we need and that is what we are doing now. i guess the <oops...time: 3.49 - something wrong with the internet connection...damn!! just when i was so close...called up the service provided (airtel) and they confirmed its a problem at their end and are working at it asap. <gotta wait>...so close and yet so far!
yahoo...3.57 - back on line...>
28. this is the file that i downloaded from the thread mentioned at s.no. 26: XWKE8 Stock Kernel: http://www.multiupload.com/ZTRYIQ5S35. this is the file name: GT-I9100_INU_I9100XWKE8_Kernel.exe and it is 6.11 MB. i downloaded it from here...http://depositfiles.com/en/files/db7m31qw4...it has a one-minute wait time.
29. all files ready to fire!. so far this is what i have done:
a) chose the stock kernal (this is an exe file)
b) extracted zimage file
c) copied the zimage file to the root of the phone memory...the instructions at pg. 1 state that it must be in the sd card but i found at step 34 that when accesing CWM Manager, it does not do so from the card but only the phone memory shows...perhaps i did not know how to go to the sd card. but anyway this is what i did...just paste the zimage file in the phone memory.
30. put the phone in download mode again. the same thing as mentioned above is stated except for two changes that the counter for custom binary download should read YES (1 count) and current binary should read: custom
31. plug the phone back to odin and the yellow rectangle should activate.
32. this is important now: the instruction on page 1 are not clear so i hope nothing goes wrong...prayer again fly to My Lord. ok here goes: run the exe file i.e. the stock kernal and input the password: [email protected] it extracts a .tar file. this has to go into odin...but where? i put it in the pda button just like the last time and clicked on start. <perhaps the instructions were not clear cause chainfire presumes noobs are intelligent...i certainly am not he he). aweee...that worked
33. the odin does its magic and this is the output:
<ID:0/013> Added!!
<ID:0/013> Odin v.3 engine (ID:13)..
<ID:0/013> File analysis..
<ID:0/013> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/013> Initialzation..
<ID:0/013> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/013> Firmware update start..
<ID:0/013> zImage
<ID:0/013> NAND Write Start!!
<ID:0/013> RQT_CLOSE !!
<ID:0/013> RES OK !!
<ID:0/013> Completed..
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 1 / failed 0)
<ID:0/013> Removed!!
34. the phone reboots itself. eject the phone. now do as the instructions say. go to cwm manager in appliacations, open it, choose flash kernal and then it must show the phone memory where right on top is the zimage file. just click on it and touch ok. phone reboots and voila...there is no yellow exclamation.
35. heave a sigh of relief and thank God for his kindness...ONN and samsung for the phone. Thanks to windows 7 for the notepad
end: 4:47 AM 6/16/2011
i hope i helped atleast one person...crossing my finger
-j.ram-
I know you put a lot of effect in this, but I think it is totally obsolete, if you can't follow the instructions given by Chainfire....
Instructions - ODIN (long)
- Follow these instructions to the letter. Do not touch any buttons or checkboxes that are not listed below to touch!
- Unzip the attached CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.zip
- (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
- Start ODIN
- Click the PDA button, and select CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.tar
- Put your phone in download mode
- (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
- Make sure repartition is NOT checked
- Click the START button
- Wait for the phone to reboot
- Done (if it took you more than 30 seconds, you need practise!)
Then you really should not be around xda.
After such a long narration...i really feel that..after this, if anyone still ask how do i root using chainfire's method??...Really needs a kick on the arse

I think you're being way too harsh on the guy.
A self-confessed noob, he obviously did his homework, and as he says, it may spare other noobs reading through 50+ pages.
Over-detailed? Maybe. So what? Who's he hurting/offending? Not me for sure, why you?
"Then you really shouldn't be around xda" - Bollocks. Who made you judge, jury and executioner?

I am not talking about him. If I did that it was not my intention. My apologies for that. I was talking about people in general. If they can't follow the simple instructions given by Chainfire, then they should not be messing with their phone in the first place.

thanks for the support B3311.
let us keep the forum free for any questions that may crop up. <i know i had a ton of them before i went into the procedure>. one more aspect - as mentioned in the primary post, this is only to be in conjunction and not to replace chainfire's awesome root. he is busy making stuff so i guess we should not overburden him with the description and then a ton of question that usually follow by noobs like me
P.S. thank again for the support B3311 <never usually get those online>
Nothing wrong with posting how to for noobs as the original posts of any method are often spread over a few pages and even desperate topics .
But numptys are still going to post in this very thread a few pages on not having bothered to read the instructions as usual .

Well the OPs effort should be appreciated. While I had had an Android phone and root and had used more than 15-20 roms on my earlier phone (an HTC), i did not knew simple stuff like how to enter the Download mode (or how to get out of it save from Odin, which I still don't know). I had to search the forum for that and other such things. However, now I know I could have given the XDA phone wiki (http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S_II_Series) a look.
A newer guy might well have started a new thread in that situation. I guess part of the problem is that the useful threads can get buried back pretty quickly, and the Search function does not search inside post text by default (only looks at titles). A wiki might turn out to be useful for such situations. However the XDA SGS2 wiki is still quite sparse. I think putting info and links in it will really help, and we should also have a pinned thread with link to the wiki at the top of different Forum etc (maybe I am moving into an area not quite related to development, so will stop here.)

People like you are so quick to forget that you were once a noob too. Why don't you piss off somewhere else with your snobby attitude and let others learn? Or are you some kind of elitist asshole that's scared of too many people knowing what to do?
Great thread mate, and yep while it may look a little over the top for most people trust me you will help a lot more who are searching for greater detail before trying there first flash and root I will personally use it once my sgs2 arrives to make sure nothing goes wrong and trust me I've flash and cooked many roms in the past but never used a samsung so I'll too join the ranks of noob soon.
Now if only my upgrade was due sooner than the end of June and I could get rid of this bloody iPhone lol
i just picked up my Note 3 the other day from verizon (SM-N900V) and i attempted to root it using Root_de_la_vega. It was my fault for not doing more research, but i thought since i wasn't going to do anything fancy other than remove all the bloat ware that it should be simple enough. Now when i use Odin (3.09) it keeps failing and now my phone is bricked and now it says i need to use the software repair assistant.I have tried downloading Kies 3 as one site suggested, but for some reason it does not recognize the device What is the quickest way to repair this? I don't care if it goes back to default. I really need to fix it ASAP! Please help!

When @droidstyle mentioned MJE, he is talking about the most current customer release ".tar.md5" file for use with Odin. (There have been at least three public releases so far - MI9, MJ7, and now MJE)
I *think* links for the files you want are here (section 1 of this post)

I haven't been down the road you are travelling, so I honestly don't know if you are soft bricked (recoverable) or in worse shape than that.

I haven't been down the road you are travelling, so I honestly don't know if you are soft bricked (recoverable) or in worse shape than that.
If you succeed in getting things working again, let us know what steps you took.

Download root checker from play store
thanks all for the help, and thanks for not chastising me much for my ignorance. Ill def make sure to do much much much more research before i try to do something like this again lol.
Your all back up and running with root I take it then ?
Root checker says that my device was not correctly rooted.....ill look into i more, not sure why it did not take.....it seems like verizon makes it more difficult than any other carrier to root their devices

The Odin factory image stuff returns everything back to 100% factory, so you shouldn't be rooted if that's all you did.
And since you didn't mention anything else, I suppose that's exactly what we should presume.
Normally when you use that Odin procedure, you are returning to square one - you need to root. Probably with kingo.
As btfb0 said.... root with KingoApp (dot) com.

As you seem to have figured out, the more research you do, the more likely you are to succeed at stuff like this. At least you were able to recover it.
That being said, KingoApp is definitely the best/easiest way to root this phone.
